as personal preference im not a fan of "date view" I organize via folders so my OCD kicks in, I create albums(collections) and by default its oldest to newest (which can be fixed via picasa pc web interface after some cursing and google) I just am not fan of the overall interface. Ideally; for example, id have a folder on my device and google photos would keep that folder so if i have a reddit saved images folder lets call it "reddit" it would backup my images to that folder and keep the folder structure on the google photos side.
Theres nothing wrong with the photo's app per-say i just prefer the "gallery" method of sorting and organizing

yup, I've been using QuickPic for a while
Google Photos is terrible apart from being able to back up my photos for free

That's what I use. Just install the apk from within the zip.

Absolutely!! Quick pic is THE best Android gallery app BY FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR. Seriouisly it's hands down the best. I can't even begin to list the reasons why cuz I don't feel like making a wall of text to crit you for over 9000!
QuickPic
In my opinion Sony album is better than quick pics. You can find the apk on xda
I've been using kk gallery app since it's basically just the aosp one.

Another vote for QuickPic here. Best replacement I found when Google Photos took over as the primary app for Nexus devices.
Focus by Francisco Franco
If you get the beta of his g-plus you can use your fingerprint for a photo vault !

Does anyone know of a good app for the photos? I really do not like the way the gallery is laid out. I have tried a few, but they do not upload directly from the camera.
If you found a good gallery replacement, please post a link.

Love Quickpic, but it has no support for Picasa.
I love QuickPic and use it regularly. I just wish I could find an app that showed gallery in a hirearchial structure. ie. I have pics in several folders by event under a folder 2011, however you don't see the parent folder structure organization, so they aren't as informative. Yes, I know I can embedded the dates in the exif data, but dates were just the easiest example, could also be done for wallpapers based on category, but I dropsync both tablet and phone images on the phone and have same folders under each parent directory.
Haven't found any other app that does this, unless it's a feature I missed in QuickPic or Scalado Album( which is also pretty decent ).

Dropbox?
If you don't have it yet that is a referral link and if you use that to sign up we both get 500mb of space for free. Also dropbox's app seems to work well and you get free space for uploading pictures, up to 3gigs from just uploading photos =D. You can give links out directly from your dropbox so it should work for what you want not sure what else there is for it. *Oh and there is a nice toggle for only uploading while you are in wifi if you want that so save data and it will do it automatically*
I don't think I would pay for a service like dropbox but it is awesome with it being free.

You're not the only one. Sony's apps ( Album, Movies, Walkman, PSM ) have always been Xperia's strong features. I don't care too much about Movies app, but Album and Walkman ? Best I've ever used. Good design, great performance, sufficient features, unified user experience.
Its amazing cool i show it the other day to my friends and they were like "waattt" so impressed

Nope, you are not the only one. I like Sony Album too. If can they add in sort features, it will be perfect.

I unfortunately do not like it and have been a long time user of QuickPic. My main reason for disliking the app is that there doesn't appear to be a setting which allows me to sort my pictures and thus they are all jumbled. There does not appear to be the option to disable the app either. Any suggestions?
I only use quickpic for moving and hiding pics and folders. It's basic, baggy and awful generally.
As for the stock album app, it's amazing. You can view your pics in folders or in the default view, zooming in and out shows more and less thumbnails to view which looks absolutely brilliant and it's super fast to view online albums like Facebook too.
The album app does not need to stop its perfectly fine being in the background just like all android apps are. Gone are the day's of needing to kill apps. Live in the future man, and open app is a fast app!

Yes and no, would be much better if you could select folders to include or exclude. Because then it would have saved me 2.3 hours moving my music off the card, and back on with Sony media sync. That Sony USB interface to micro sd in the phone is damn slow.

Yep one of the best, Sandisk extreme pro (95MB/s), only get about 10MB/s transfer, even slow to the internal phone memory (same speed) usb 3 UDMA however 60-80Mb/s, than is obviously my prefered option to transfer 16+GB of data
On my gs3 in the gallery app it would have all my Picasa albums separated. Now on my gs5 all the pictures are showing in one big group. I'm guessing it's a bug or something but not sure if anyone else uses this and wanted to know if there's any way to change it. I spoke with Samsung and the told me "that software is written by Google", so obviously they are of no help and don't know what they're talking about.

I know picasa is from Google, but the gallery app is obviously written by samsung.
I don't use it for sharing or tagging, I just use it a free cloud for my pictures that integrates right into the gallery app.
If anyone knows of a similar service that works the same or better I'd definitely be willing to switch.

So I am loving my 6p but this is highly annoying. So when I am in an application and want to share a pic, it will only show me recent pictures and I cannot go back through old photos.
You can share from photos without issue. But why in marshmallow can I only share recent photos inside an app.

Can't you just slide from the left to have more options on where you want to share them from like drive, folders, and other apps?

Its "Photos"
They want you to use the Google Photos app...I asked the same question right after launch and got this response here...this apk has worked great for me...
The camera still uses "photos" when you swipe right to see your pics...but at least you will have Moto's gallery as well
