I need help please

I gained root and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. When I booted every process crashed so I selected wipe data/facory reset. Well now I only have the ClockworkMod Recovery and it will continuously load the 2 slash screens.
Before I cause anymore damage can anyone tell me how to go back to how it was from the factory?

You need to sbf from the bootloader if you didn't hose that by installing clockworkmod because it sounds like you didn't use koush's bootstrap to install it the way the D2 needs to have it installed. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
There are two tutorials for flashing the sbf one in windows and one in Linux but both have information worth knowing. I'd link them but I'm on my D2.

I got a critical error after I selected the sbf.

I try to download that file but when I try and open it is says invalid.

Problem Solved I had to format everything first then do the steps listed.

gingerbread root question... help appreciated

So I got gingerbread, updated from rubix 2.01. Question is would z4root would to root it. Or do I absolutely have to sbf to 2.2 and get rooted gingerbread file? Thanks

the rageagainstthecage exploit doesn't work on 2.3 (z4root) so right now you will have to sbf and flash the prerooted one.

tried running sbf app and it didnt like me.. clicked start nothing happened... had all drivers as well.. i dont know

the gb file is flashable through clcokwork recovery

And you don't have to wipe. It's signed as an update so all your apps and settings will be the same.

Yes. What they did was they took the .sbf file, and converted it into an update.zip format so we can flash it in recovery.

So just get the file in sbf format and stick it on sd card and go from there correct... thanks

Is Clockwork ROM Manager the same as Recovery? I looked in the Market, but it only brings up Clockwork ROM Manager in the search.
I would install ROM Manager on my phone, put the update.zip file in the root directory of the SD card and then run it with ROM Manager?

Yes clockworkmod is the same as the custom recovery. You need to get Droid 2 bootrstrap recovery app from the market. The droid 2 bootloader is locked, preventing us from completely flashing a custom recovery. the bootstrapper is the only way to get to clockwork.

hey OR, i got the bootstrap recovery unfortunately its not working. i got the correct one for the droid 2 but it keeps saying error running exec(). command and it list a lot of other writing as well. i also tried rom manager to reboot into recovery with the result of it saying error while trying to run privileged command.. what shall i do

Uninstall bootstrap and reinstall, be sure to give it su permission.

how do i assign it superuser again?

Is your phone rooted?

no i cant root it, cause it has the 2.3 leaked update on it... i put super user on it and it wont give me access to bootstrap until i install an update it said it put on my sd card but i cant reboot into recovery to even alow the superuser update... frustrating

Download SuperOneClick to computer, link to phone with USB debug on, click "root".
Voila!
Edit: Flash back to Froyo, root with SuperOneClick, bootstrap clockwork recovery, then install .zip file with rooted Gingerbread.

I am rooted and have CWM installed. I am looking to put back the stock 4.22 recovery so I may install the the 4.24 OTA update.
I like to keep my Rom stock and prefer to install updates via OTA.

If you take the 4.24 OTA you will no longer be "rooted" Look for one of the rooted ROMs and flash it

I am using the Unrevoked root method and no update (3.70,4.22) to date has unrooted my phone.
I have simply been restoring the current version of the stock recovery, which I have previously found on the internets, and then running the OTA update as normal. Once done I install CWM and the latest SU updates. Works great.
I would like to perfrom this method once agian to install the 4.24 update and all I need is the 4.22 stock recovery.

If you don't want to be rooted anymore, then just accept the OTA - it'll override your current recovery with the stock recovery, which is actually a lack of recovery.
But as others have said, you won't be able to root again unless you've ran unrevoked or unrevoked forever and remain s-off. In that case, you'll have to flash a recovery and then flash the rooted version. So if you want to stay rooted, you might as well go ahead and do that. You should be able to just wipe cache and dalvik and install, so the end result will be the same but you'll be rooted.

This is the actual update, but rooted, so you can keep your CWM recovery, get the latest update that was made OTA, but remain rooted. You don't want to just accept the OTA if prompted, your root will go away.

Thats the problem. I cannot install the OTA 4.24 update with CWM installed, nor can I install the update manually, via renaming and then update method, as it will error out during install.
OTA updates will only install if the proper stock verion of recovery in installed, hence I really need the 4.22 recovery.
Installing OTA updates when using Unrevoked does not change S-OFF, it only overwrites SU which can be easily reinstalled. I know as I rooted my evo way back when it was version 3.26 using unrevoked 3 and have installed every OTA update since using this method and still have S-OFF

BTW, there are also a lot of posts detailing how the OTA made their phones worse, but if you want to be a hard head, go ahead and bury yourself, but don't come back crying when you figure out.

how come every other incompetent noob can manage to get their phone back to stock and permanently locked/unrooted, yet I cannot manage this feat intentionally?

if I intentionally flash the 4.22 zip from shipped-roms will this eliminate my root and recovery?

I appreciate the heads up, but if done correctly, it does work and has worked great for me the past few OTA updates.
I am aware of all the potential problems and am not the only one successfully installing OTA updates on a rooted evo and staying rooted.

Bottom line is if you change back to S-ON, and apply the OTA you lose root forever (or until Unrevoked finds a new backdoor). If you leave S-OFF then you can downgrade, and reload a recovery. The stock ROM's you'll find here (ex. Sprint Lover's) are stock, and rooted. They pretty much the same thing you get over the air. Don't be a lid..

I downloaded a from shipped roms the last rom for my evo and downloaded the s-on tool. Ran the tool then connected my phone to the computer and ran the RUU i donloaded. Fully stock unrooted locked phone

First learn the correct terminology for what you are tying to achieve. There is no 4.22 recovery that you can just flash, there is a 4.22 ROM and a 4.22 RUU.
Then check out the WIKI and FAQs these both contain the info you are looking for .
Not trying to be mean. Just do some research before you mess up your phone and come here asking for stuff that doesn't exist.
4.22 ROM = just the ROM
4.22 RUU = .exe that runs on your PC to FLASH your PHONE with new radio, recovery, hboot, rom, etc

* if you leave S-Off you can re-root *

just updated to .602 with root/no root

Everything went fine. But titanium backup cannot acquire root permissions even though superuser is there. Tried updating superuser, but I have to flash some binary stuff. Tried to then access recovery through clockwork (rom manager) and it does nothing. Tried going through recovery the old school way (holding power and home button) and that does nothing. What the heck is going on?

You can't update to an ota without losing root. That's just how it is. Sbf and start over. Install only pre rooted updates, usually from Team Black Hat.

I did do the over the air update. I first SBF'd back to .340, then followed the steps on mydroidworld as I thought the teamblackhat app update wouldn't work and that I needed to follow the mirrors. Can I SBF back to .340 even with the new radio and update that is on .602?
edit: I'm sbfing back now, looks like the mirrors that were posted had soemthing wrong with them. I'll use the TBH app to upgrade from .340 to .602

I've got a semi related (noob) question here: I just rooted my phone and now it wants me to upgrade to. 602, and I keep telling it to do it later. I understand upgrading will cause me to lose my root, yes? If so is there a way I can get it to stop trying to upgrade? Is it safe to just remove upgrade.apk using titanium backup? Cheers,

I posted a guide on MDW, but here are the steps:
* Download .602 AIO updater from TBH App
* SBF back to .340 (Don't use the AIO)
* Activate phone,Root (Z4Root) and Bootstrap (D2Bootstrap)
* Format: System - Data - Cache - Dalvik
* Mount System
* Install .602 AIO from TBH App
* Reboot
* Profit
(In some instances you might have to go in and do a factory reset after the update to get everything up and running properly)

On TB when the no root message comes up click problems? and install the busybox it prompts for you. that will fix it not seeing your root

are there any methods in the works to root if you're already on .602 ota? I really don't feel like sbfing again =\.

Not entirely true. Do a google search for "602 update without SBF".
Basic idea:
Pre-Installed Clockwork
Superuser in zip format on sdcard
Rooted 596
Install OTA 602
Reboot
Pull battery while still on
Auto boots in Clockwork
Install SU zip file
I used this procedure. Was quick and painless. Do not simply use my instructions though. Look for the original post. I will look for the link later.

Tadpole's thread on MDW worked flawlessly, no SBF needed woohoo. The main factor is you have to be fully stock. Phone reboot after this method does take a little longer than usual on the first reboot but its awesome to see the little indicator after rebooting "Droid 2 Boostrapp has been granted superuser permissions" without having to SBF, install and then CWR and reinstall data blah blah blah.

I've been looking at the threads but so far I don't believe there's one that tells you what to do if you've actually installed the official OTA update?
I.e. I have an rooted 2.3.4 GT-I9023 with an unlocked bootloader. With no clockwork or anything, as to be honest the last time I used it (on my old HTC DHD) it made my phone unstable (the phone would sometimes boot up of its own accord and stop at the clockwork screen).
Does anyone know how to re-root the NS after it's installed the official OTA update without clockwork?

You cannot get root back without a custom recovery. OTA will not relock the bootloader, you'll just lose root and custom recovery.
You need to flash custom recovery using fastboot, then flash superuser to get root back. There are plenty of guides in the stickies describing the process.

Ok, so i'm updated to 2.3.6 but of course have lost root (never had CWM to begin with on this phone). Anyone know where I can DL CWM (i'm assuming it needs to be flashed via platform-tools directory in the android sdk per normal) and the latest su file?
EDIT: nvm, I found the latest CWM and successful flashed (my method was correct). However I've not been able to find the latest superuser.zip to flash yet. Also, I don't know why ppl say to use the market as I don't see how that method can work. I've already got superuser installed from before I updated but that doesn't help me get root. Only flashing the zip from recovery (as I understand it) would. Which renders the market useless in this regard.

The superuser app checks to see if you have the latest superuser binary and will download and instalk it. Or download superuser from within rom manager.

Turns out that CWM got overwritten by stock android recovery. Re-flashing CWM and then flashing su did the trick. I'm rooted once more!

You're welcome.
If you stick with a stock ROM then recovery will reflash every time you reboot. To prevent this you can go to system>etc, and change the file install-recovery.init to something else like install-recovery.init.bak.
