[Q] Tethering after update - Droid 2 General

I have a rooted DROID 2 and after installing the OTA update my tethering app which requires rooting(Barnacle WiFi tether) won't work. It says I need root access. My other apps which require root access still work. Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried re-rooting the Droid and it says it is successfully rooted, but still no tethering capabilities.
Any feedback would be appreciated

Does Superuser pop up and ask permission when you try to use it?

no, in fact when I look at superuser permissions, it says that it already has permissions. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but still the same resopnse.
"Barnacle requires 'su' to access the hardware! Please, make sure you have root access."
that is the message I get, but I obviously have root access, so I'm not sure what to try next

Try wireless tether for root users

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that app and while it doesn't give a specific error message, all it says is "unable to start tethering". I am wondering if there is something in the update that is preventing tethering, or perhaps the apps need to be tweaked to work with the update.
I certainly am frustrated, but will continue to explore options. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. I will post if I find a solution in case anyone else is experiencing the same issues

I don't use Barnacle, but it works on mine so its not the update preventing it. I would try unrooting and rooting again.

I will try that, thanks

[Q] Upgraded without Unrooting

I may have missed this in another thread, so please feel free to redirect me if so...
Without thinking, I updated my Droid with the OTA push and my previously rooted Droid 2 is now not rooted.
I did try to run the oneclick and 1-2-3 root processes. Both end with "your device is now rooted", but of course it's really not. I do have the Superuser APK, but my rooted programs are not communicating with it. And I'm not able to uninstall the Superuser program (thought I'd try to reinstall it). No go.
I had Titanium Backup, ad am wondering if I can wipe my phone and restore it, then upgrade, and root after. I'm a newbie with limited knowledge, so wondering if I've backed myself into a corner on this one.
All feedback appreciated!
Yesterday, I did the same thing you tried and I was successful in rerooting my phone after the OTA update. When you used the 1-click process did you choose option 1 or 2. I tried 2 and it didn't work. I had to chose option 1 (reload everything) to be successful. BTW, remember to make a new recovery backup of the system.
unrooted

Same issue here - how I fixed
I had already made titanium backups of important stuff - you have to go into applications (that use root) and force stop and clear data. Once this is complete open titanium backup for instance, and you should be asked for super user and then be good to go. Same goes for rest of apps that need root
OTA update Loop?
i have my d2 rooted after the ota 2.2 update. i just received a notification to accept the most recent OTA update ... whatever it is... and assumed it was one of my apps as i didnt read it thru completely b4 tapping 'ok'. now it is stuck in a download, reboot, update, "update unsuccessfully installed", redownload, reboot...........
is there a way to cancel the update? i dont really care if i have it or not
or some way to stop this process aside from the airplane mode i had to set it to so it would stop this madness
So you can do the OTA update without having to unroot and reroot?
Great advice from all - thanks! I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but I ran DOROOT several times, did the unplug/plug when it hung for a minute, force closed/cleared data from previously rooted items, and also put phone into 'charge only' mode when USB Debugger would not run.
Finally - success! My advice to users with this same issue - try and try again.
Thanks all!

[Q] Dissable Knox Security help?

Alright, I'll run down my problem and hopefully someone can help. I have looked at all of the threads and none have helped me . I am however, very confident one of you guys!!!
Alright, when I Updated to 4.3, I decided that I wanted to go to Cyanogenmod instead of the touchwiz from samsung. I had previously done it with my s3 and everything went well!! So I decided to give it a go. From the moment I tried to root my phone, a notification would pop up on my phone saying "Security information An application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. This attempt has been blocked."
It doesnt matter what method I use (mottochoper, terminal, mac, pc) I always get the same message and everything stops and whatever program I use tells me it couldn't finish.
I have a macbook, I tried uninstalling kies, rebooting my s4/mac, everything!! Nothing works because of this message.
I also tried to dissable and force stop Knox, but it just keeps happening.
I unchecked the box that allowed know to be activated under security, but it keeps happening!!!
I can't root my phone, and it makes me sad very sad ((( The closest I've come to rooting my phone was with the mac Cyanogenmod installer. It almost worked! But then, the security thing.
I have a Galaxy s4 from at&t, running 4.3, a macbook running 10.9, a bagged lunched I prepared for myself that could be yours, and internet access of course.
Someone help please!! Thank you in advance you beautiful folks you!!!!

What rom are you talking about? You can either delete all know related files in the system/app dir or freeze the files using TB backup.

If you're running the stock 4.3 OTA, then you can't run cyanogenmod or any AOSP ROM first of all. Second, if you do have the 4.3 MK2 system, you need to either use Saferoot or Kingo ROOT. If neither of those work, use the third post in ted77's update.zip thread to flash back to entirely stock without the security updates (it will erase data and internal sd) and then root.

Is the issue only with the "Accept" button and the "Deny" button works fine? If yes, check for apps that might be interfering. Lux Lite or similar brightness control app might cause this issue, try disabling them.
Thank you it was lux lite

Broken root on 6.0.1!

Hi guys, I've got another issue regarding root. After numerous methods of trying to clear out the root in my system and updating to 6.0.1, rootchecker has been giving the same "Sorry, root has not been installed properly" as well as root applications recognizing a form of root that hasn't been installed properly.
Yes I've factory reset and done whatever else to it apart from try to install the root for 6.0.1, in case that might mess up the root or have any other effect. If anyone can help out it would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Snapchat won't open after rooting.

I rooted and installed an Android 9 ROM and ever since then, I can't sign into Snapchat. I get an error message saying, "Oh no! Your login temporarily failed, so please try again later." I've waited two days at this point, by the way. The message tells me to go to Snapchat's support website, so I do. On the website, it reads, "One common cause [of login error] is if you've rooted your Android device. Un-rooting your Android device, removing other third-party apps and plug-ins, and reinstalling Snapchat are all ways to try and resolve this issue." I have tried reinstalling Snapchat, which didn't work. I have also tried resetting my password, and have even gone so far as to create a new account to test my regular account status. I really do not want to un-root my phone, so does anybody have any solution(s) to log into my account?
EDIT: I figured it out. For anyone who is wondering, I unrooted my phone, logged into Snapchat, and rerooted. Thanks to anyone who gave suggestions!
It doesn't work on uncertified/tampered/rooted devices.
Use Magisk to root and then "hide" Snapchat from root.
