actually its only for the uk galaxy s device
you need your phone to be in usb kies mode
which i dont think u.s galaxy devices have,my fascinate
doesnt have it..
sio i wouldnt recomend any u.s galaxy s users
to be trying this, and just wait for the u.s release
which is lookin to be nov.11
[anybody correct me if im wrong]

Thank you for clear that up but has anybody even tried this just wondering?

This has been said multiple times, do NOT flash anything from any other Galaxy S variant. If it does not say for the Fascinate, you will be heading straight to brick. Please please just read around, never assume, you'll find this point has been gone over many times.

Did you even read your own link? Not one mention of the fascinate. If you have any sense you will have froyo when there is a rom posted here.
And now it's a non development discussion in the development section.
To keep the developers happy READ THIS.
good day.

I would suggest reading every other 2.2 thread in this forum.
If you flash the UK 2.2 on the Fascinate, you might as well take your phone, throw it into a wall, run it over with a car, and set it on fire. You will have a brick.

You should try it then tell us how it runs after you brick it...
Do you want it to come with sense ui as well?

When Samsung releases something for the Galaxy S, they mean the original one, the GT-i9000, which is the European GSM version. Every single US variant has slightly different hardware than that one, meaning the new release WILL NOT WORK on them!!! Anything Samsung releases will not work on US Galaxy S variants, and Samsung has warned people with US versions to not try to use Kies. The US variants will receive their upgrade from their respective carriers, NOT directly from Samsung.
There, end of discussion.

Froyo just dropped on kies!!!!!

I'm going to try it with the OC kernel. If not, I'm going back to stock for a bit.
Here's hoping we get a CM release soon!!!!!
Quick question about Froyo. I understand that it's supposed to be all that and a couple bags of chips... with flash and better processing and such. If we flash to a different version than the stock ROM that came on the phone, will we still be notified of the update through T-mobile when the official release happens? Or will they somehow know that we aren't running stock programming and say that we've voided our right to updates??
Sorry if that isn't the brainiest of questions. I'm new to androids and would rather not deal with anything that will cause heartache. I'm not asking if we ROOT the phone... I know that simply opens files and capabilities to users... I'm wondering if we flash to a different anything that modifies the system if they can see that and refuse to update us.

There is a possibility that it MIGHT work but i wouldn't try it because it might flash Euro bands and brick your device. Just wait a couple of hours (or tomorrow) because Eugene is working on creating compatibility for the Froyo rom to work on the Vibrant (possibly Captivate and other Galaxy S devices) without bricking and allowing flashing to previous ROMs.

At the earliest most likely... patience Lil grasshopper
samsung is holding an event on the 16th to show off the media hub on the galaxy s phones and to show off some new models. I'd expect them to make an official announcement then since they've been rather quiet recently.

eh, the G2 isn't much of an upgrade over the slide so I'd say you made the right choice.
Well with verizon's version of the galaxy s out, i think there is nothing to hold a massive upgrade to all versions back.
given that the tab is going to be running froyo real soon, the galaxy s phones shouldn't be that far behind. in fact, i think they should get the update first, but hey, what do i know
is this the latest update we'll get? will we be getting 3.0?

Gingerbread would be great and a good pr move on the part of samsung. My expectation is low though simply because they will want people to buy new phones. Gingerbread will be an easy upgrade too because out would be vanilla with touchwiz and widgets being addons. The Tab has similar hardware and it may get it, making a custom ROM likely.

Last I checked, Samsung hasn't actually offered a phone to 100 carriers around the planet, including all 4 US national carriers.
As long as a single large American carrier demands the next version of Android, we ALL will get it.
I don't see the connection between froyo and the gps fix. If it was an android fix then we should have a fix already, I expect it is firmware based.

Im thinking this is also true, which leads me to think that this phone is going to be pretty damn awesome after 2.2. Then again this could just be wishful thinking...
Just wondering how the GalaxyS community is going to react if 2.2 isn't 100% PERFECT.... :grabs popcorn:
mmmm popcorn.... mmmm (visits microwave...)
anyone whining bout the gps fix needs to check out rooting and flashing eugenes vibrant 9 rom, ive made this comment like 15 times buuuuuut. i get a lock within 10meters in only 10 seconds with the gps on and the cell tower assist feature on. no nead to play around in Lbstestmode menus just turn on location settings in the menu open maps and find "my location"... and this is inside my apartment....
I cant wait for ALL the bonuses in 2.2 like flash and included wifi tethering but do we really need to make a million threads about it??? lol

American Galaxy S Devices To Get Update 2.3.x In Mid-July

http://www.youmobile.org/blogs/entr...date-Countries-Release-Status-Updating-Daily-
This article contains exactly whats going on for each country on the gingerbread update, and so far it has been correct for each Gingerbread release. It recently got updated saying the US versions of the Galaxy S devices will receive the update (doesn't specify if its 2.3.3 or 2.3.4) in mid-July. I suggest you bookmark this link to remain updated.
This link IS LEGIT with the release dates BECAUSE:
1. It's been accurate with other the other countries release dates.
2. The official Samsung Galaxy S facebook page said to follow that page for info on when your Galaxy S device will be able to update to Gingerbread.
that was confusing.... it list USA twice? must be talking about the i9000 unlocked in the US... and I'll take this whole thing with a grain of sand considering not a single leak for the the Vibrant has been found.
Not trying to steal the thread, but if T-Mobile doesn't upgrade the Vibrant is that grounds for a free upgrade to SGS 4G? Wonder if that would fly...

I Think it is very clear, and yes our phone is I9000, but branded for T-Mobile which is listed in the first line
the other one is the I9000 which is not pranded for any of the carriers which is the original galaxy S I9000

I don't buy any of the "official Samsung galaxy s facebook pages" to be official. All the Samsung fan pages look the same, except those for the Galaxy S.
Also, just because they have been right (actually, if you look in the comments, they weren't always 100% right) doesn't mean they will always be right.
I am not saying it is not true, I am just saying I think without official word from something better than a link from facebook I am not holding my breath. Would be cool though.

Yeah, but the plain old Vibrant has not yet. I'm still a bit hopeful since there were no leaks before KB5 made an appearance on Kies. Maybe T-Mobile/Samsung found who was leaking the Vibrant code and put a stop to it.
My 2 cents. If Froyo is an indication of what to expect we will see 2.3.3 which will be a step down from what we've already ported 2.3.4. No US carrier even saw a 2.2.1 build and the rest of the world had that just weeks after we got 2.2.

Isn't the NS and Vibrant just about the same phone? Why don't more devs base their ROMs on the NS drivers and stuff? That question may not be the correct question, but I think it's understandable.

Totally agree with you guys, I ended up selling my 7.7 tab and pre ordered the nexus 7, I had enough of samsungs ICS promises and want the latest OS Jelly bean. I really loved the device, well built amazing screen and ooozzes quality but could not bear gingerbread any longer. Just shows great hardware doesnt make a great device, in my opinion. R.I.P Tab 7.7 I will miss you....
On the bright side ...
We wifi only owners will hopefully end up with a polished ICS version after all the issues have been ironed out of the 3G release :fingers-crossed:
Cannot belive Samsung have done this, would love to know the reasoning behind not releasing both versions at the same time. Even now its not going to be the latest version of the OS!
I think my plan is to see how it runs on ICS, and if its much better keep it for a while, until Google bring out the next version of the Nexus.
Am well and truly fed up of having to wait this long for updates!

Are you serious?
I am as ticked as anybody else here, but if it had been the other way around - if ICS was ready for the 6810 but not the 6800 - then I wouldn't want to wait while they finished up on a different device. That would be even more maddening.
It ticks us off because we are so close, but there's no reason for them not to release as they are able. And it'd be arbitrary to wait, too. When would that end? All of the tabs are relatively similar, so maybe they should hold all updates until they are all ready?
It's insanely frustrating that we are waiting so long on this when we paid so much, but I am happy for the 6800 users that they don't have to wait any longer (except for JB).
