"No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no noooooooooooooooooooo no no no no no no no no noooooooooooooooooooooo no no no no nooooooooo no no no no"
I like your enthusiasm though..........
Porting android is one thing but iOs is aimed so much towards one device that I dont think It would be worth the amount of effort it would take to port it..........

Do we really need farting apps on our HD2s?

Agree with the OP IOS4 although simple and restrictive is a great experiance. Its not all fart apps and there are over 200,000 apps now and are better priced that most android apps and every app I think available in the wp marketplace. The games are great and there isn't anything wrong with it. So stop pretending it isn't good because you couldn't afford the £90 you had to pay for the phone and then the contract
PS The 3GS is a bag of cr*p lol

why would we want dumbphone osx on a smartphone..... hmmm cant think of any reasons why...

I'll be another to add, that we do not need such a piss poor OS on our phones !
Efforts should be concentrated on decent OS's !
If you want iOS, go buy an iPhone !

why do you think this would make the ultimate phone? are you drunk?? having ios on the hd2 would only add restrictiveness and having-to-pay-for-mp3-ringtones-iness.
i agree that it's awesome to what extend the hd2 is modable, but somewhere there's a line that should not be crossed. and this line is drawn around the ios.
IMHO.

In 2 words...HELL NO. If you want ios buy an iPhone

dang you guys can be asses i wasnt saying ios4 was a great os just like the fact that it has alot of support and therefor it has alot of nice apps and cydia is pretty cool
besides i dont like the itouch and iphones it was just a thought
reason i say ultimate phone is cause it would be the ONLY phone that can boot in to 3 os's

if you want iOS buy an iphone, wp7, android and wm is that not 3 OS, not to mention ubuntu and possibility of meego. HTC HD2 is the ultimate smartphone, please don't spoilt it by porting this. Its probably do-able but I fail to see the point.

Being a huge Android fan, people are talking way too much crap about iOS. Yes it's closed, it has its flaws, and Apple's philosophy is far from what people need, but iPhone 1 has, in it's time, set the standard for what smartphones should become like. And even today it still has one of the best user interfaces.
Just give credit where credit is due, and don't blindly follow other people saying that iOS is crap.

Not sure what I can add to that, you said everything that needed to be said I think. I'm on AT&T and have been for 8 years (cingular before) and worked for Cingular in a call center for 4 years. Someone wanted my IPhone 4 right after I got it so its gone, can you blame me for making $400 off the thing?lol Had I not given $200 for it on an upgrade and sold it for $600, I would still have the thing. Actually I wouldnt mind seeing IOS running along with WM6.5, WP7 and Android. Why? Just to say we can really....I'm sure there are some IPhone haters out there that are also geeks who can relate to that I would run the Tivo software on the phone if I could figure it out, just to say I can..lol

i will really like to see an ios port on the hd2. i think i saw a video where another htc phone was able to port it but i dont know if it was real or a fake. either way i think ios is a great software with a ton of apps and i wouldnt mind the bragging rights that come with being able to port almost any os we want.
i mean windows 6.5 android, wp7, ios, meego, ubuntu and i even saw an emulator for windows 95. what else could we want.

and i forgot to mention. just because i would like to see ios ported to the hd2 doesnt mean i want an iphone. same way that i dont want a wp7 phone just so i can have wp7 os. im tired of those remarks from a lot of people. i just like to be able to run whatever os i like and to be able to customize my phone to my liking. having more os choices just facilitates that process.

it is impossible, just for ios4 is a close system

Farewell windows mobile

As all of you, I've been with pocket pc since my hp 1945. Back then ppc was the most advance mobile os out there. I dreamed of a time they would converge this device with a phone to make the worlds greatest all in one. Then it came , the device that started my addiction with windows mobile phone, the imate jAm. From then on it was an exciting journey as I bought new phones when they cAme out. Each one better than the last and more stable. This journey climaxed when I bought my best pocket pc phone ever.. The htc advAntage. I loved that thing. Huge screen graphic processor, fast CPU , 8 gb HD . But alas my advantage was dropped one too mAny times so it was sold. Not wNting to get the same phone twice I purchased the AT&T tilt, then the xperia. Now for the point of my post. Since the begining to about when the first iPhone 3g came out I'd sAy ppc was very much better than the rest. Now after playing with the 3gs iPhone I can see with this device ppc is now in the dust. It does most things our ppc can do , but most of all more and more developers r writing awesome apps for this device. And because it's made by one company and also very popular there are tons of accessories for it. I mean there were times like with my advantage that I couldn't even get a proper case for it. As for os iPhone is wAaY more stAble, windowS is taking too long. They started this race but R finishing up last with their shotty work and programming. I meaN the only reSon I buy htc products is becUse of this awesome site. That's pretty sad when ur only selling point is a site that has no affilation with u but make ur buggy product useable. So with this post I sAy farewell ppc thank you all the chiefs that made All those custome Roms I've used over the past ten years. I've jumped ship and have bought a 3gs.
Ps xperia was the straw that broke the camels back. Worst ppc phone ever. From case problem to shotty os
Bye.

hahaha yeah. to iphone so go. bye, you wont be missed.
You could summarise the OP into one sentence.
"The iPhone has a swish GUI and is better supported for apps than the Xperia, so I'm getting one."
My response would be,
"I prefer my device to have a keyboard, and while the Xperia isn't perfect, it has a spreadsheet app out of the box... for free."
It is not our fault that you cannot configure your device properly. Feel free to buy a featurephone like the iPhail. It is simple, not functional and has crappy hardware and software.
WinMo is for tech savvy people who understand modern tech. iCrap is for the ones who want everything configured and controlled for them. The latter will fall behind modern society, because of lack of understanding how things work.
Read this and pay special attention to the links haha:

Let's not be Haters
If someone wants to leave WinMo let them go. Maybe when they try iPhone OS they'll realize what they are missing. Perhaps, though, they would be happier with it.
Just because WinMo might be best for us doesn't mean it's best for everyone.
I do have to say, though, that I am confused by the now several threads in the Xperia forum saying that they are leaving for the iPhone. I never saw any in the Kaiser or in the Dev or Q&A forums. I am beginning to think that many of these are simply viral marketing.
EDIT: Perhaps not viral marketing, just users that don't understand customizing/flashing very well. Reviewed some old posts by the originators of these threads.
Have fun with your iPhone 3GS - seriously No bad feelings here (why shouldn't there be any lol ).
However, I think you made 2 mistakes here. The first one, was getting an Xperia in the first place. If you now can live without the full qwerty keyboard, you should have gotten a Touch HD. Thats more of a competitor to the iPhone than the Xperia.
The second mistake: You switched when the WM platform finally has come to a point, where almost all new devices feature a WVGA screen, which means, that developers will have less problems to build apps AND WM 6.5 with its marketplace is standing right on the doorstep. The other thing here is, that Microsoft won't be that fussy when it comes to authorising apps to the marketplace.
I personally am not going to jump ship to the iPhone. I'm satisfied with the Xperia, but am really pissed with the problems of the WM ecosystem. No one stop shopping for apps. No music or app downloads straight to the phone (that Handango InHand app was crap!). And, come on guys, customizing a phone and voiding the warranty IS NOT A FEATURE!
I am not even interested in the X2. Hardware alone isn't going to convince me to buy a new phone. It has to have a great ecosystem and UI...period. I'm guessing X3 with WM7 would be my next phone, but if it's crap, then I'm jumping ship to something better (even iPhone 4). My next phone is going to have a really well-designed and clever OS on top of superior hardware. Features should not be half-assed but properly integrated into the whole phone. Good example is Copy and Paste. Many complaints the iPhone didn't have it, but now it's got it and it is very well implemented. Apple didn't just throw some bull**** into their phone to make the feature list longer. My next mobile OS will have to be designed with that same mentality and attention to user-experience.
I'll stick with my X1 for another generation, but next generation, the company with the best designed OS and ecosystem will get my business.
Besides the question if the iPhone is the better phone (Everyone has to decide for themselves, for me, the iPhone is definetely lacking some things) i really have to say that somehow i get the impression, that WinMO got stuck.
A few years back, it was the ultimate OS for powerful PPC and later PPCPhones, but that was because it was the only real one. Microsoft just sat back and sold and sold without improving. I mean even the devices 5 years back already had 400 MhZ and were as fast as todays devices and if you take a look at Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 6.1 you can't see significant changes at first glance. I've had many WinMo Phones throughout the years and i will stick with it for now, because I love Windwos Mobile and all the functionality that comes along with it and appart from a keyboard i am still missing some other things with other phones like the iPhone, but i guess, if Microsoft does not realize that the Phone OS Market is now an open and very competitive one and does not improve their OS within the next year (Speed is a great factor, other OS are way faster) more and more people will come to the point where WinMo is no longer the OS of choice. As for myself, more and more things that "disgusted" me with the first iphone, get lost more and more, as apple improves the whole package. Alright, an iPhone with Keyboard is way off for now, but who knows
Just my two cents =)
If they released an iPhone with a keyboard, it would be game over for the rest of the smartphone industry. Not that I'm an Apple or iPhone fan, but more likely than not, they would completely dominate the smartphone market with a keyboard device and a touch-only device.
The X1 is good, but apps pale in comparison aesthetics wise
I think the X1 is really good, it's the best WinMo device i've ever had. There is no real comparable device out there regarding the Hardware.
But right now it looks like this is the climax of Windows Mobile and if this stays like that till the next time i have to get a new device i will be looking seriously into other Phones, because my love to WinMo is not unconditionally, they really need to do something

Word! **** the iPhone.
WinMo and X1 is good enough that I'll wait for WM7 to give it a chance (and I'll put the OFFICIAL WM6.5 on my X1). But after that, I'll have to jump ship to a/the keyboard iPhone or something else if Microsoft and SE doesn't get it's s**t together by next generation of phones (The X3).
I have to agree. I updated my X1 using the SE update service to R3A and now get regular crashes. I'm trying to find away to roll back but not having any luck. As mentioned before, cooking your ROM is all well and good to improve your phone, but it voids your warranty and shouldn't be needed. Lazysoft should start investing some of their vast mountain of money into programmers who can produce a stable, fast and easily customizable OS. As Apple slowly realise their mistakes with the iPhone and introduce firmware upgrades to compensate WM is going nowhere and offering nothing new or improved. As soon as iPhone is capable of everything other phones are, it's game over for WM.
I'm sorry but this is getting out of hand...we are being astroturfed here.
So many 'I'm switching to iphone 3gs' posts... it's professional done I grant you that (some are one or to post users some are 50+ well rounded accounts) but astroturf nonetheless.
I'm wondering if the rest of the XDA forums is being hit? If I'd get off my butt I'd check.

I had an iFail for a month (back in the 2G when you could jailbreak without contract)
I am happy I don't have it any more
Crappy keyboard, with only qwerty, no 3rd party keyboard support, apps were alright, nothing incredible, no real bluetooth (A2DP, tethering etc) and no hardware keyboard, hardware was mediocre at best and the camera sucked
Took them 2 years to sort out some of those issues, hardware/camera still suck and the apps.....lets just say I wouldn't take a lot of them if you paid me, not to mention being forced to use iTuneDeaf, I'll stick to my media players that support OGG thanks.
I am quite impressed with the iPhone 3GS, I do not understand how they can make the MP3 player so remarkably fast compared to any windows mobile mp3 program + phone. I know capacitive screen takes away the need to apply pressure but the iPhone OS looks as if it takes alot of processing power and yet 600 Megahertz is almost the same as 528 and yet iphone is blazing fast.
The same also applies to the Ipod Touch which has a 400 mhz processor.
I am just so discontented that the iPhone os is not good for automated apps and modification apps. If it had those features + a true file system than I would consider.
This is the reason why all iphones and ipod touch have mostly games and games and games, because it can only support certain types of foreground apps (since the Mac OS isn't designed for background apps)
I pity all the iDiots......

[QUESTION] HD2, Andriod and Desire

Hey...
It might be a noobish question but I just couldn't find a decent answer:
With the release of the HTC Desire, since its very alike the HD2 hardware-wise, is there any chance of it helping with the release of a working Android ROM for the HD2?
I really want to get rid of WinMo 6.5... I hate it...
Thanks
Has been answered many times before, you should have searched.
Anyway, the answer is no, its not easier. And its not magically going to happen overnight either.
Mods will close this.

The HD2 is my first smartphone, I bought it because the superb hardware... I didn't know Windows Mobile suck that bad and I also suffered from lack of experience...
Apparently hardware is not nearly enough...
Now that there will be no WinMo 7 no one wants to buy it, at least not in a price I think is worthy...
I thought, hey, if there's a chance I can get Android on this device why not look into it...
I truly hope this day will come; for now I am managing with WinMo...

Flash CleanEX and you will see that WM can be fast!
It would have taken a short amount of time (30 mins) to go to a store and demo the phone, or research on the internet, read reviews, watch videos, post your questions BEFORE going out and buying the phone and then moaning how much you hate it.
Society now apparently is made up of people who are unable to make decisions for themselves even when the pertinent facts are readily available.

I actually research most everything I buy... especially expensive things. It pisses my girlfriend off to no end when I sit and compare different brands or features on things and not just make a quick decision.
I was watching and reading about the HD2 for almost 6 months before I finally got it (as it wasn't released in the US until recently). I love Windows Mobile. I find it to be the most versatile, customizable mobile OS and I'm very upset that MS is changing all that when Windows Phone 7 comes.

I wish I could rate you up like the comments on DailyTech!
Anyway, I'm not sure I understand all the WinMo haters. I read these reviews of the HD2 saying how amazing the hardware is, but the OS sucks... Yet they don't give any reasons the OS sucks.
Sure, I can see a year or two ago, back in the 6.0/6.1 days saying it is ugly... Still, what does ugly keep you from doing? Showing your phone off to the other shallow people around you?
Then I hear "OOOoo, the Marketplace sux0rs!" and I wonder to myself, how did ANYONE survive before a "marketplace." Oh yeah, search online and find what you want, I remember now. Do that, and you'll find that WinMo has a HUGE application pool to draw from.
Now it is "Oh it sux cause it is dead thanks to WP7." Sorry, another lame excuse. Why? Because all WP7 does for anyone, is give it a fancy interface, that if you don't like it... Well, MS says screw you!
So to the OP looking for Android on your HD2, give your HD2 away and buy an Android phone, or help port Android over to the HD2. Just don't come bawling your eyes out to a group who has lived and breathed WinMo for years and say you hate it because it sucks. Maybe it sucks because YOU aren't smart enough to figure it out.
This says it best:
"I can't tell you how frustrated I used to get at supposedly smart people who couldn't care less about power features but instead chose the "smartphone for dummies" (iphone). In time I realized it was their choice and that people for the most part don't want to think in fact most people spend their day trying to find ways not to think."

Agreed. I've been using WinMo since 2003... before they were all phones and were call pocket pcs. And that's what they are... basicly a pc that fits in your pocket. Now they are even more... they're phones now, too. But people need to remember that they are still pocket pcs and have the same type of learning curve a full pc does. They operate just like windows pcs do.
WinMo was designed as a pocket pc originally, not a phone. Android and iphones, etc were designed to be phones from the beginning. They don't have the same pc functionality like WinMo does. It's a shame that WinMo is nearing the end of it's development life by ms. WP7 is going to be a dumbed down phone now just like the rest.

Bye bye HD2, hello iPhone!

Had enough of the HD2 now, and after playing with iPhones recently I have reaslised I made the wrong choice. The UI is just so much more intuitive, ok I have to wait till July for OS 4.0 for multi-tasking but who cares
bye!
and whats the reason for this information?
Good luck lapping at Steve's heels. You are correct in that the iphone OS is more immediately user friendly but the HD2 & winmo offer much more that iphone OS can. Good luck with that, oh and it still wont be true multi-tasking

This.
I made the exact OPPOSITE move.
I've owned the 3GS ever since it came out and for the past few months before I sold it it bored me to death. There's very little I can do with it, and once I realized I don't really play mobile games, the decision to sell it became very easy. I like my HD2 a lot more -- more customizable, and more powerful. Plus the small screen of the iPhone (resolution-wise) was grating.
great news for somebody who wants a second hand leo, not everybody affords a new one
godspeed and be happy man
I think we should start a thread 'Show your iPhone today screens here' and see how many posts there will be

I'm not saying I have proof. Thats exactly it, it just feels better for some reason. The texting, the scrolling, the fact that there is no ghastly looking WinMo hiding underneath.
Ah man... just joining the rest of the sheep. There are too many identical Iphone users about! BE INDIVIDUAL!
People who don't want to invest time in a more versatile phone should buy an iPhone, but they will get less for more. And don't expect the iPhone to be perfect, because it's not, it's that's what Apple's marketing machine will try to tell you, but don't count on it to work flawless.

Yeah well I had the iPhones before and I would never change my HD2 for them!
Youre making a 2008 expired move but good luck on that!
And get ur credit card ready to pass through the App Store because apart from that, there's nothing attractive about the apple anymore....
If you would like to donate to starving tech hungry kids, please send unwanted HD2's . . . to me, I'll be sure they get them >.>

4000 colour screen, symbian OS and 16Mb memory? Not sure what iPhone you have been looking at...
aww... we have a apple fanboy who is just desperate for attention..... the only iPhone that stands a competitive chance of usability... is the iPhone 4g... and even then... a lot of those features haven't been confirmed... but hey.. to each his own eh? have fun with a locked down device... leave the hd2 to the people who can handle it...
I feel for you, and I am comming to the rescue

[Q] anyone working on iOS port?

I really want to dual boot ios - I want one particular app from apple but otherwise I love android. Is anyone working on this?

Um, is there ANY Android device that boots iOS?
I have seen Android on an iPhone, but I have never seen iOS on a Droid phone....
seems like it would be EXTREMELY difficult to port iOS to another device. Android is open and more "malleable" than iOS and I suppose thats why android has been ported and iOS not
I lol'd when I saw this thread
"I lol'd when I saw this thread"? Seems a little closed minded for a phone hacker board... why would it have to be difficult? The nook has similar hardware to the ipad, all one would need to do is find a way to flash Ios. This isn't particle physics. As far as ios being more locked down, many an apple fanboy will tell you there is nothing you can do with android that you can't do with a jailbroken ipad. All its going to take is a motivated individual with the right programming chops.

the nook has similar hardware to the ipad?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!??!!!!!!!!!
i never knew my nook had an a4 processor along with 256MB of ram
WOW the hardware observations and tear downs of the nook color were wrong and you were right
hey guys lets port iOS to the nook so we can have the same experience as the ipad
/sarcasm
if you want ios on your nook than port it and have fun
from what i read above and from what i know about coding, not only is it near impossible to port such a crap os to a great device, NO ONE WOULD WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its like deeper blue said in his FAQ
Q: I want to port Honeycomb to device xyz... send me the instructions how to do that now!
A: I like the 'I' in that sentence - but there are no instructions, no source, no nothing. Learn and read about Android, Android porting, making custom roms, embedded systems, ARM assembly, driver programming, programming in general, the Linux Kernel and much more - and when you're comfortable and have experience with all of that come back and do your port.
Q: Can you port Honeycomb to device xyz?
A: I don't have xyz. And even if device xyz would magically appear at my front door doesn't necessarily mean I'll have the time and motivation to port anything to it.

but in this case this is ios instead of honeycomb and device xyz is the nook color
EDIT
PS
the nook has hardware almost identical to a droid x/droid2(only difference i know of off the top of my head is the processor and the lack of a cdma chip)
I'm no apple fan boy, but to say ios is anything short of amazing is ignorance. however, porting ios to the nook would be very near impossible not to mention illegal since ios is closed .and has copyrights
whats the point
iOS is a joke. Who wants to be owned by apple? If there is an apple app you like give it some time and someone will make a similar one or the developer will make it for android.

ios although it revolutionized the mobile OS market it sucks big time compared to android and WebOS
heck ios doesnt even have multitasking
Interesting thought. Logistically it would work better due to the fact there is only one button.
But, illegal. Didn't even think about iut being copyrighted.

iOS is cute. Ha ha ha I remember my first smart phone. (remembering back to beer fest). I also love how apple prides itself on using glass on everything. Well people get those replaced all the time because the smallest crack messes up the digitizer.
I have an ipod touch 1g and 2g. Ho hum. It was cool at first but everyone caught up and surpassed them. More interested in putting android on those ipod touches.

Not only would it be illegal, but extremely difficult to do since it's completely closed source. You would need to hack the OS and de-compile it completely which would be a feat of it's own. Then you'd need to successfully tweak the OS (which is designed to only work on a specific hardware set) so that it would work on some other hardware. And when you were done and published your work, Apple would sue the bejesus out of you and take your house, your dog and your first born child.
Android on the other hand is completely open. The code is available to anyone and you can legally put it on whatever you want without running into licensing issues from Google. Legally you can jailbreak your iPhone and run any legal apps you can get your grubby little hands on. All you have to do it port Android to iOS and figure out how to make it run on the hardware.

There's nothing to get over it. It's the people who have never used a device more than a 5 minute demo in a store that really shouldn't say anything. I do think they make aesthetically pleasing products.
This was a decent troll. It got a lot of the "smarter than thou" types. 7/10.

Me, too. I don't think advertising illegal activities would be wise; a dev definitely wouldn't share it, even if by some Herculean effort he accomplished it.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. To the OP, would it be cool? Sure. Would it be a neat exercise in hacking some code onto our beloved NC? Absolutely. Is it totally illegal and not to mention, the device IDs that I'm sure are passed along when you try to access the app store would likely restrict access to, arguably, the best part of iOS - the iTunes ecosystem and app store.
Aside from that, the xcode everything was written in was not compiled for our hardware profile, meaning you would almost certainly run into compatibility issues and bad calls due to missing driver trees from the kernel.
Great thought experiment, but iOS just isn't really suited for this sort of thing. The limited hardware scope is one of the biggest boons it has going for it. So few target devices to contend with.

Is Apple Better?

You tell me...

I gave credit to the Samsung Galaxy line.
Advertising your website while trying to make people interested with the title... hmmmmmmm
smart.
The brand itself made the iphone successful..
I recommend iphone too to those whoever looking to get a smartphone, especially the ones I think are not really OS/smartphone enthusiasts..
Both android and iphone are great OS'.. It's just much simpler and refined iOS is compared to android.. I think the Galaxy s2 made it right out of all the android smartphones out there..
Thanks to its great specs and incorporation into the OS..
And also... We keep on waiting for the next iteration of android to work right.. We said that about gingerbread then honeycomb.. Lol.. Is honeycomb not that good either?
ios and android are just 2 sides of the same coin.
Android gives the user a more advanced and easily customizable interface as well as open source, minus side is stability and hardware/software compatibilty.
IOS gives you the security of a rock solid stable OS with the comfort of knowing your OS is built around your hardware, thus no incompatibility or unsupported features. downside is closed OS no source info apple controlled market and complete lack of customization.
Android = Mobile Technology Enthusiast
IOS = Business savy person, or parent, people who need to be 100% certain everything works 24/7 (or trend hopping teen)
i have an ipod touch, a galaxy S, I love both
I have an Imac and a self built windows 7 gaming rig, I love both
Mind you these are my opinions and as such yours may differ.
as a person who loves the best of both worlds i use Miui with the Vexillium Project icon set, this gives an iphonish polish and feel with the customization of android that i have grown to love.
Android is more for the tech savvy people, while apple is for people that don't really know much, with the iphone though, you don't get leaks, either your phone is supported, or its old and will forsure never get updates (apple).

One area where apple has a big advantage is how easy it is to change themes or customize iphones. My buddy at work has an iphone 4 and it jail broke. Thru cydia he installed something call a dream board (or something like that). Thru that he can go from theme to them within a few seconds and there are zero issues. Also its super easy to change signal, wifi icons etc... Now us android usuers know what a pain it is to change almost anything on your phone. Finding something compatible with your rom, make a back up, flash, reboot, cross fingers , say a prayer and hope everything works like it should.

You can post it here. I enjoyed the article. It's different if your purpose was to sell something, but even if you had ads, it's not against the rules.
As for the topic:
My wife's sister is an apple iPhone convert to Android with the Galaxy S Vibrant. Observing her everyday dealing with the phone would come to the conclusion that the iPhone is just simpler. She had her iPhone before I met her, so I didn't get to see her initial learning curve into the smartphone arena. She often complained about the Galaxy's constant crashing, slowness, and terrible battery life. (She's the type of person who only charges once every three days). A custom ROM did not make things better, and shouldn't have to as she put it. She loves the Market and all of the nifty apps that she can download. She uses that often. She didn't have many apps on her iPhone.
It makes you think. I've found that a lot of features that I used apps for previously are built right in to the MIUI ROM and negates the use of an external app. I believe that a lot of features should be implemented into the OS, and should not require an external app, or custom ROM to access it. This is something that needs improvement. To me, an intuitive UI isn't only about being pretty, but being complete in the sense that I don't have to customize it in order for it to be fully functional.
iOS has superior apps, a superior user interface, a more battery-friendly design and superior media ecosystem (iTunes Store, etc.).
Even where the same apps exist, the iOS version is most often better.
Also, the build quality of the iPhone is superior to practically every Android device on the market. The only other smartphone I've owned that came close was the HD2 (boy has HTC gone down the ****ter since then?).
I simply can't deal with it because a 3.5" screen isn't enough for me. I need 4" at least on the screen. Anything less is not usable to me as a daily driver.

That's because it is pretty, gleaming, slick, and simple to use.
It's not marketing. Go to an AT&T or Verizon store and look at it.
It's so good, that even Samsung tried their damnest to copy the Look and Feel of it, and Android even borrowed many UI elements from iOS.
Lots of people got Vibrants preciecely because it was a 3GS look-alike with Android on it (skinned to look like iOS) and they didn't want to get AT&T's service to get an iPhone.

That's true to an extent. But not every android phone can run GB. So that's not an option for everyone. Plus apple os is pretty slick right out of the box. No need for custom roms.
Bi-winning V3
In terms of build quality yes and in terms of efficiency their iOS is efficient but there phone is a nightmare for people with big hands which is why I generally see more women own iPhones and more guys own android phones
While this is all true i think google knows this an thats where ice cream sandwich comes in cant wait an gonna be open source so that mean CM8 unlike honeycomb
