Does VISIONary work with OTA? - G2 and Desire Z General

Does this root still work with the new OTA and is it still a temp root for the phone or will it stay when reboot if you have the new OTA?
Thanks!

Yes it does....

Un-Install Busy Box

I've decided to un-root my X8 and was wondering if it's safe to un-Install Busy Box or should I leave it Installed?

Why?
I think the only way to unroot is to restore with SEUS or PCC and lose all your data.
Superoneclick has an un-root button I think, I no the z4 root app does.
Busybox is pretty much useless if your phones not rooted so there's no harm leaving or removing it, its upto you!

You'll need to shell root into your phone, so you can safely remove all the root related files without loosing root whilst you're doing it.
Why would you want to unroot anyway?

I decided to unroot as I could not get xrecovery to work, so I didn't see the point in having a rooted phone.

Pressing the back button several times during boot didn't launch xrecovery and my phone booted to Android.

How to tell if rooted

How do I tell if my x8 is rooted?
Try to find "superuser" in menu. If there's something with the name "Superuser", your phone's rooted.
If Superuser works on your device, then it is rooted. If you have no Superuser, then it is not. If superuser does not work, Reboot and try again.

It is installed in system and you need to remove it before un rooting otherwise even factory reset won't remove it and you need to re root or flash a new rom to remove it
Un-root is very easy. Just flash with PCC.
I think SuperOneClick can unroot your phone too

[Q] OTA update mt4g w/VISIONary+

aight, I tried searching, and the few threads that mentioned this, was for full rooted phones... I'm on stock sense, permarooted using VISIONary+, etc... I got the OTA update at 12am, tried to do it, and the phone locked up on the screen with the phone and a red lightning bolt... did a battery pull, did the "unroot" via VISIONary, and the phone works fine... am I going to receive the OTA update again, or should I DL the zip file from the other thread, put it on my SD card, and power up + volume key, etc... pretty much, any help or suggestions is appreciated... lol

Impossible. You must not be truly perm rooted since rooted phones (even those running the stock ROM), don't get OTA updates. You must have TEMP rooted with Visionary. The only way to truly perm root with Visionary is in conjunction with the root.sh script.
i didn't edit any script past what visionary does... it's probably the equivalent of a temproot, but I don't have to redo it every time I reboot... I haven't touched it in months... I used the unroot function, so I'm not sure if the "run visionary.sh after root" or the "set system r/w after root" were checked... I know jack **** about this stuff, that's why I'm here... lol
this means youre not rooted. so if you want the update just walk in to a tmo store and have them update it with their sd card update.
That's funny.. my superpower, shootme, and TI backup are working... like I said.. I didn't s-off root my phone, but I do have SU privledges

Somehow your temp root is sticking after a reboot. Superpower? It's called Superuser. Sorry, but I LOLed at that.

SU is stuck too, but the app is called SuperPower... it's a battery management app, but after reading further, root isn't required, just recommended to use all of the features

[Q]

I'm trying to unroot my phone & all that good stuff because I need to send it back to Verizon.
I cleared all the caches and backup, then I flashed http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30171389/Continuum-Stock-DL17.tar.md5.7z with odin, booted up my phone, updated it to froyo 2.2, deleted cache & data again. Then I downloaded ES Explorer and tried to remove superuser.apk and it won't let me. Can someone help me out please, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Flash the dl17 again, then remove what you need in this order BEFORE ota
1. System/app/superuser.apk
2. System/xbin/busybox
3. System/xbin/su
Reboot, then ota

Is there anyway to know for sure if I've gotten rid of any traces that I've altered my phone?

To be honest, all you really have to do is remove superuser.apk, then OTA. The OTA overwrites the system image, where busybox and su are held.
As for being sure, since we don't root at the kernel with this phone, that will remove all traces that anyone at verizon can see. I assume you are returning this on a warranty issue?
Yes, I am. What's OTA? lol

Supersu unroot didnt work for me. I tried that and didnt look for root permissions before updating(dumb idea).
The update failed so i had to volume down + power to get out of it. Now i dont have the update available. :crying:
The failure could be totally unrelated though.
I have to admit... The fact that they are updating the FW on a nearly monthly scale, proves the level of commitment to this phone by Asus. I am so glad I chose it over the OPO.
Same here, I used this guide to root: http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=9340
I did the unroot procedure with SuperSU before running the update, restarted my phone, tried using the OTA update and after going into recovery it just says "Error". After panicking a bit, I restarted the phone manually, fortunataly I was able to boot again but now I can't update. I don't even see the update as available anymore. As root, all I did was uninstalling some bloatware. What can I do?
