How do I tell if my x8 is rooted?
Try to find "superuser" in menu. If there's something with the name "Superuser", your phone's rooted.
If Superuser works on your device, then it is rooted. If you have no Superuser, then it is not. If superuser does not work, Reboot and try again.

It appears as an app? If I unroot then it will disappear?

It is installed in system and you need to remove it before un rooting otherwise even factory reset won't remove it and you need to re root or flash a new rom to remove it
Un-root is very easy. Just flash with PCC.
I think SuperOneClick can unroot your phone too

Hey guys long time htc phone guy, fist time andriod user. I just rooted my phone and I would to know if there is a way to check that its rooted.
Restart/reboot and if the "whoosh" att boot logo junk is gone...youre good!
not true, unless you have installed some custom ROM which removes the AT&T flash screen.
An easy way to check if you have root is to try to install an application which requires root previlege.
Or, since most root method will install SuperUser, check if you have a SuperUser application installed.

I've decided to un-root my X8 and was wondering if it's safe to un-Install Busy Box or should I leave it Installed?

Why?
I think the only way to unroot is to restore with SEUS or PCC and lose all your data.
Superoneclick has an un-root button I think, I no the z4 root app does.
Busybox is pretty much useless if your phones not rooted so there's no harm leaving or removing it, its upto you!

You'll need to shell root into your phone, so you can safely remove all the root related files without loosing root whilst you're doing it.
Why would you want to unroot anyway?

I decided to unroot as I could not get xrecovery to work, so I didn't see the point in having a rooted phone.

z4root doesn't seem to work with new B137 firmwares on Android 2.2.2. (http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8800)

I deleted them in the cust_backup folder using root explorer. I needed to set permissions to r/w in terminal
i think something is going on with z4root...
the thread is locked, i can't find the app on the market and when i download the attached file, my antivirus (Kaspersky) tells me that it contains a virus and deletes it.
any other app to root my X5?

Please link to the root guide you followed. After you rooted did you do anything else to the phone? You can try downloading the .apk file for the google play store. There are guides online to install .apk files manually.

I used the motochopper method. I have since installed titanium backup pro but I had this problem before installing that.

You may want to try restoring to factory with Kies and trying again.
Having already rooted wont effect a factory reset? Have you rooted your S4 using the same method?
I am actually restoring my rooted phone with Kies right now. I can confirm after its done that there weren't any issues. There is a disclaimer in Kies saying there may be issues if your phone is rooted.
Where did you find that option in kies?

With your phone plugged in go to Tools > Upgrade firmware
And mine just finished successfully.
Remember you can delete busybox and su in your system directory to unroot your phone before you system restore in Kies.

I personally testing it and it works. The method to return the status from "Custom" to "Official" while keeping root was very nice.
N910U got rooted using CF Root. But Titanium Backup failed to freeze anything. Help plz.
no one?
Using double negatives is wrong!!
more details please. What happens when you try to freeze? You click on freeze and nothing happens? You click in freeze and it says frozen but it's really not? Did you check and make sure you had root?

Thanks bro~
Yes, it says frozen but it's really not.
Titanium Backup says i have root already, and Greenify says the same thing.
But MyBackup Pro refuses to freeze anything neither, and Autostarts says i don't have root.
I'm confused.:crying:
Try uninstalling app on your phone, reinstall the Regular version, open it up, then go install the pro, open it up. Let me know if that doesn't work.
May not help but, have you got into developer settings and ticked usb settings? Use to have to do that on my s4 when using titanium..

Open SuperSu. Does it tell you that you need to update the SU binary?

I did check the USB debugging box and update the SU binary before. :crying:
Well then you have to do it manually... With a file explorer with root access.
