I have Dirrk's 0.2 voodoo lagfix installed in CWM. I am running stock with his LV 1250 kernal. I wanted to know if disabling lagfix (by creating a disable_lagfix file in sdcard/Voodoo) would be enough for the OTA. I froze my apps with Titanium and did not delete the apk's.

We probably won't really know until people try... but we have awhile to ponder on that.
Honestly - why is everyone stressing over the Froyo OTA. You will be way better off waiting a few hours for it to be rooted, repackaged, be-bloated, etc... and available to flash as an update.zip and/or through ClockworkMOD.
you will have to take your phone back to verizon, get on all fours, bark 3 times and meow 7 1/2 times, dont forget the 1/2, then beg them to make your phone touchywizzy again and then they will grant you "froYo", but only if you can pick whichever VZW employee has herpes (no disrestect to any VZW employees)

Anyone have any real news on when VZW will do an OTA? I know it won't be long after that for the different images to get posted.

It is incredibly difficult to brick this phone so long as you're not hardware locked, and if you are it's easy to fix that. You're really missing out by not getting over your fear; all it takes is a bit of studying up on Odin and CWM.

I agree, ODIN is about the easiest failsafe on the planet.
1. get to download mode
2. start ODIN
3. add PIT
4. add PDA
5. 2 minutes and your golden.
Actually, my rooted JI6 w/ mobile AP works beautifully. I am dependent on this phone's functions every day.
After 2 previous brickings (1 ota and 1 OCLF Voodoo click) requiring an (other xda member) odin rescue, I have learned my lesson & limitations. Now... I don't gamble with what I can't afford to lose. (Unless of course I'm zanked on pink tequila. Then I'll load Linux on my kid's Furbie & code it to stalk my ex. Bua hah hah!!!)
Even when (if) 2.2 does come out in US, I'll still wait for feedback from this site before installing it.
Now can we puhleeze get back to ragging on India???

I started flashing ROMs and feared that I bricked my phone once. Just couldn't figure out how to get it back up and running. Ran into an amazing post from a guy here and it got my phone into download mode. I have never looked back since as I know that I just can't brick my phone! I tried but failed. This is an amazing piece of hardware. However now my home button is not working (think it can be hardware related though as it doesn't matter which ROM I have on it it still glitches)

it would be a huge victory for Samsung to pass on froyo and release GB within the week. It would catapult them past HTC and motorola in the significance area of Android development. I think they need to do this if they want to regain lost respect.
Since Nexus S is galaxy S with GB on it already and is basically 99.9 the same as our phone, I definitely think it's doable. I would definitely prefer gingerbread. I want it just for the newer copy/paste feature.
God man, all this misinformation. Let me clear it up for you. We are most likely NOT going to skip froyo (2.2). Gingerbread (2.3) has ALREADY BEEN RELEASED and it is on a phone called the Nexus S on T-Mobile USA. Honeycomb (2.4 or 3.0) is for tablets in its current form. Man, this getting ridiculous.

As you can see, we have our share of trolls here on the EVO side of XDA but you should be used to that by now coming from DX. These low-lifes are rampant on these forums, just ignore them and you will be ok...
Regarding your question. Technically, if you are flashing a newer version of a rom like say going to CM7 2.2 coming from 2.1, technically you do not have to wipe everything, just dalvic cache but if you are flashing a completely new rom then it's best to completely wipe everything. There is a zip called "format all" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785271
somewhere in the OP in this link, and you can just flash that zip before you go to a new rom and it automatically wipes absolutely everything for you, so you won't have to worry.
I highly recommend you use the format all zip before every rom update or change, just to be safe. And make sure you create a nand backup before hand.
Welcome to the dark side! I'm sure you will love your evo!
P.S if you're looking for roms to try out, particularly AOSP, I highly recommend MIUI. For a sense rom, go with any of Calkulins.
Let me know if you need anything else.

I'm telling you man, do not get into any kind of conversations with some of these folks. Their goals in life are to literally be useless. Ignore them and just do what you gotta do. Don't let anyone alter your decision.
Disregard what the morons are saying about Sprint. Sprint is by far the best value in wireless services. The amount of money you'll be saving will more than make up for any tiny nuisances you'll find with Sprint. Besides, you have 30 days to try out to see if you like it. If you feel it's not worth it to you, just leave and go back... no questions asked.
The EVO is kinda old news now. I would wait for the next big dual core android with AMOLED action. And the number of roms for EVO actually is not all that impressive. Most of them are regurgitations of others. There are a couple of good sense options (although I think rooted stock sense is best) and then there is cyanogen.... which is the best there is IMO... And now it has the extra G.... not that the 4G has been very useful to me.
I average 1.5 to 1.6 Mbps down and 600 to 800 Kbps up.
That ain't bad for 3G.

@OP- Answer to your original question- Yes, you can flash ROM after ROM but you need to wipe in between flashing. One of our awesome devs Calkulin made a script that formats everything completely that is an awesome tool to use before flashing. Makes for a good clean install. You can find it in his mods thread in the theme section.

As you all know the Nexus for Sprint is out and soon to be (my favorite) the Evo 3D. But with this new 10$ add on bill for any smartphone you get (even if you have the data unlimited plan) seems to let me down a lot on deciding if i should upgrade soon. I mean if you think about it every time you get a new smart phone 10$ is added to your bill. so theoretically your bill can be limitless. Ya i know 10$ is not much but hell, im only 20 and in school for a surg tech degree, i cant afford that monthly extra.
I really have no point in this paragraph haha. I guess just be blessed for those that are getting those awesome new tech. and il Duce, youre the only one i know so far that is moving on to the 3D, so please dont forget us HeroC homeless that cant afford it .
Hopefully Sprint will get rid of this mental add on. But in the mean time thinks for reading my rant
I'll most likely pick it up. Despite the cryptographiclly signed bootloader, kernel, and recovery, it will still kick ass. From what I know about signed bootloaders and stuff, you can still root the phone - you just won't be able to put any custom firmware/roms/kernels/flash radios, etc.
That's why I'm straying away from the 3D as of now.. I compile my own roms and would go crazy if I had to stick with the stock ROM and not be able to load my roms, or at the very least load CM
But at least HTC said they'd "Review their bootloader policy" We'll see if they actually do anything about it though.

I don't think the carriers really have much of a word in things like that (well, except for AT&T with the whole not being able to (easily?) side-load apps), though it's interesting to see other manufacturers becoming more open with their devices, and HTC going the other direction. Hell, even Motorola said they won't release such locked down phones now.
Here's to hoping we get a variant of the G2x.... with qHD.

FWIW about the new phones though, I was tempted, but I'm holding off till the X-mas lineup comes out. As the commercial goes "...then we must teach you to wait." The Evo 3D looks like a solid contender, but I'm shying away from the Nexus S...1) no microsd card support, and 2) it's a samsung (I'm the "proud" owner of two Moments...uuuuugghh).

Nothing to flash, it's an OTA update. The link is just a link to the Engadget story. And looks like GB 2.3.3 is being pushed out not 2.3.4. Don't know the difference, but I know there is a 2.3.4 out there.

Yes, they are. Still, even though Verizon will no doubt take months on end to push out gb, assuming they don't EOL this phone first, we still might get Mesmerize gb before then (like we got Mesmerize EC10 Froyo before we got ED01 from Verizon)

Makes sense since GB for our phone most likely would mean the end of the world

You mean for the unofficial leak? Because the Fascinate will be EOL'ed by Verizon long before that.

its so ridiculous how fast manufacturers push out new devices. yay you have the latest and greatest! and you just shat all over everyone who's had your phone for a year. wtf man. ha. i had an eris, and really don't think this phone should ever be in the same boat as that phone. never should've bought that eris, should've gone straight to the Droid 1. so does no one do GSM to CDMA conversions? They did a couple for my Eris (thank you punk.kaos) and for the Droid 1, the "Mobile Networks" option was usually the only thing not working eventually. I'm new the fascinate, actually not getting mine till tomorrow, but I'm really eager to get a truly open phone. my droid 2 was killing me bro. oh well, so long as we get gingerbread eventually. and honestly if CM7 is ready before the end of June, who needs an OTA? Android Devs FTW!!!

It's a joke, because the end of the world (according to conspiracy freaks who take everything they read to the Nth degree) according to the Mayan calendar is 12/21/2012, or the Winter solstice of 2012.

The guys who made the Mayan calendar probably stopped at 2012 because they were just tired of making calendars and figured "surely someone will pick up where we left off sometime in the next 2000 years"

lol, yeah. If you look at the calendar, it's a giant wheel.
They probably thought "Hey, instead of adding ANOTHER ring to this, why don't we just create a new calendar once 2012 rolls around?"
