Been trying alot of builds recently trying to get reliable gps (+ compass) and decent battery life. I really like MDJ's desire HD build nice gps + nav and best of all loving the new sense interface. But as with a few other builds i have tried recently battery drainage has gone through the roof.
To compare to darkstones desire hd build i get 3-8 mA in standby and i can get around 18-22 hours out of the phone. But most of the recent builds i am only managing 8-10 hours max.
I have tried shubcraft 2.0, the latest hyperdroid, the latest MDJ evo and of course MDJ's latest desire hd. All of which have increased significantly in battery drainage. But when i switch back to an older build battery drainage falls in line again.
Is there something i can do to sort it out? As i see a lot of people report decent battery life whereas my observations are totally the opposite.

ok doing that now thanks for the info. that still wont stop the unusually high battery usage tho, i mean just for comparison, darkstones desire hd build uses just as much battery when at the home screen idling (with my settings) as the newer mdj desire hd build does when in standby ~100-120 mA
Couldn't we just use someone elses battery bin file, then?

I've used that build before (MDJ DesireHd with Hastarin 7.6 if I remember correctly) and my drainage was only about 6ma on standby. Something is not right with your drainage in the slightest. Shubcraft2.0 DropMode is 7-9ma for me in standby and I used to get a good 16-20 hours out of both builds with moderate use through the day.

i was recently looking at battery stats in settings>>about phone>>battery usage
and i was noticing in all builds the screen is using about 60%-70% of the battery.
the thing is i was wondering if everyone else has the same problem??
is there a fix that i missed or something? (i am usually on top of everything related to android and hd2).
I've faced the same with several builds, and observed that my wife's desire had the same at 4-5%. I thought this might be a driver issue, and could account for at least partly the battery drains.
I had posted my comment in one of the battery threads, and a "senior" member came back with a snide remark that I must have been installing it wrong all these while. After Mr. Know it all's response I stopped responding to anything posted here really.
I think its a relative figure, that 70% or so, I think it keeps getting averaged so may not actually be so bad after a while. I am still curious about the driver though. I've stopped using setcpu now and that seems to have helped actually with the newer hastarin kernels and tytung builds.

Android System: 40%
Cell standby: 18%
Voice calls: 18%
Display: 14%

Here is mine battery stats
I have been using hyperdroid 1.7 for a while now with UV and OCd CPU kernel; WinMo ROM is Energy 2.5 GTX based 3.14 and Radio 2.15.50.14...
3-6mA in stand-by - don't use my phone that much though as you can see by my battery stats ...
hey im wondering if sense less have better battery drain then sense
so is it helping to lite sense build ?
what u think
i get mostly 6-9mA
7-8mA average
1hour per %
i tired few sense less build not helping to get
5-7mA like i had before
1.5-2 hours per %
on ROM build i get 7mA static
5mA with pilot mode
maybe i should change radio ?
in my opinion sense builds drain more battery. have tried nand and sd builds, with sense, without, hd, etc. in past...
hd builds drained the most battery while using, in standby drain was about 5-7ma!
with gingerbread i have a standby drain of 3-5ma and, and while using the phone battery is much better than on sense builds.
i have seen some threads saying battery life is up to radio version. if it is correct which radio version has better battery life? i have 2.10.50.26 radio...
I have a 2.15. It doesn't really matter. If you want to someehat save your battery life download juicedefender from the market
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'm using 2.15 with iamgpc's gingerbread NAND. Still going at about 65% battery since 14 hours!
Ive been going for 15 hours and did 10 min of data for market browsing, 50 min of music and im down to 35%.
On some 2.2 Androids i barely would get through 8 hours without above usage.
actually i have this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797546) going for 37-38hr. but android version doesnt go more than 12-13 hr ( i couldnt find a way to save battery on android...
Update:
My Cyan Gingerbread on NAND just pulled 24 hours. (@ 24th hour, the battery was @ 1%)
outstanding achievement judging from my experience with other previous 2.2 versions
Using 2.15 and MDJ Gingerbread 2.5 NAND.
Just finished work (10 hrs since charge) - data on most of the day, couple of calls, no music. Down to 74%, best performance since switching to NAND, much better than MDJ 1.7.
Can I install a new radio, as usual method, with HSPL, and Android NAND and malgr installed?

Which NAND Build has the longest battery life in your experience?
A friend of mine told me DorimanX has an up to 5 days life in standby. Is that true?

That's true
Android is less efficient that wm, though smoother (web browser)
I checked app call Battery Dr. It says that my phone has idle time of 311 Hrs at 89% battery. That's amost 13 days.... lol
Ive learned to use battery saver app which I think you can find many threads in here. It prolong my usage to more than 12 hrs which i'm very glad.
I'm using NDT MIUI.

The experience of each ROM varies with each user. There is no ROM which has a definitive best battery life. All ROMs now tend to have pretty good battery lives. In airplane mode, the battery drain is about 1%/2hrs (no use) and with phone on its slightly under 1%/hour. Most things turned on now don't affect battery drain too much (eg. with wifi and bluetooth my battery drain is 5-7mA, it's normally 4).
Agree. I've tried out many roms, and they all have very similar battery life. MOst will last about a day with moderate use.
Sense roms have very slightly higher battery drain, but sill last about a day. (And they are much prettier...!)
The old Hyperdroid ROM have great battery life
I can easily get over 30 hours moderate use with tytung's nexus hd2 ROM (clk)

I use my HTC HD2 a lot, so the battery drains quite quickly. I'm currently using android 2.3.5 on Hyperdroid CM7.
The battery life is decent, but I can sometimes barely get through one day with only texting and web browsing.
For those who have used both android and 7 mango, can you please compare the battery lives? I'm thinking of making the switch if it means that I can get more usage.

I guess it's NAND Android? For me, WM 6.5 had always the best battery life but with the camera trick I get slightly better battery life in WP7 mango than in Android...
Atm I'm on WP7 mango (yuki/xbmod bttf) and I can get easily through a day (texting, surfing over wifi and some gaming)...
WM 6.5 was the best, but WP7 with old radio (2.12 without T) is near the WM 6.5 autonomy.
Android in 2.2, 2.3.2, CM7, ... was everytime to drainy to have a daily use. Just good enough to play whan plugged to a charger.
What rom do you suggest I use for best battery life?
Hmm, I'm using the Back To The Future Rom updated to mango including the cleanup (that one made the battery life slightly better)
I have 5mAh drain (after battery trick) when in standby and with moderate use it lasts 2 days. With heavy usage easily one day...
I started out with a HTC Touch Pro. Batt. life was okay
Then I got a Milestone (1): Batterylife was ... okay (1 day)
Then I got a Milestone 2 : Batterylife was similar to MS1 (about 1 day)
THEN I got an HTC HD2 and went for MIUI directly. Battery Life was okay also about 1 day. Then I started using SetCPU wich extended my BattLife ENORMOUSLY. I go from about 6 in the morning until about 12 in the night by HEAVY useage (BT almost all the time, PushMail, FB Chat, WIFI running, listening to music via AD2P all the time).
Then I got bored and decided to mess up my life - so I installed WP7. Took me 3 days to install and get unlocked. Don't misunderstand me: I love the OS. I think WP7 is great in means of style and usability. But besides BT-problems, and Market quality, I went back to MIUI mainly because of one thing: THE BATTERY. With BT running and WiFi on, worst days only got me 5 hours of battery time. Totally unacceptable.
As soon as BatteryLife is improved, I will go back to WP7!
I installed CM7 2.3.5 and Mango 7720, Mango has better battery life than CM7.

Even with SetCPU runnning?
i have usually gotten better battery life out of the miui NAND builds than mango but I'm sure if its because i'm usually playing games on mango than i am on android
I'm having such a different experience with battery life. Mango was an awful drain. Camera trick (if I did it correctly) didn't do anything for me and it seemed impossible to gain a full charge while WP7 was running. Had to boot into Magldr to get a full charge. Just wasn't worth it for 6-8 hours with very light use.
Enter CM7 Gingerbread 2.3.6 NAND. Good to decent battery life.
If I could get Mango to perform the way all of you are getting it to, I'd love to switch back. I'm really learning to like Android, as I understand more about how it works, but I'd enjoy more of the WP7 experience.
So that's what I'm doing: record one second video in the camera ("camera trick")
And remember to do it after every reboot of the phone...
To get a full charge, try to use the battery indicator level fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933751
(You don't have to do this all the time... just once)
Try it, enjoy it
Found out that part of my battery drain issue was my SD card. Though my Kingston 8GB class 2 "seemed" to be working fine, I realized the strain it was putting on WP7 after I upgraded to a PNY 16GB class 4. It's much faster now and the drain is much lower. turning off wi-fi helps too.
The only solution that worked for me amongst all the options (based on my experience)
1. Tried the camera trick - NOT WORKED
2. Followed the steps below - NOT WORKED
* Boot the phone to MAGLDR
* Select "Reset" option from the menu
* Phone reboots normally
3. Hard reset the phone - NOT WORKED
4. Charge the phone in magldr USB storage option - NOT WORKED
5. Finally, flashed the 2.12 radio, did the camera trick (not sure if its relevant). The battery life has improved dramatically. It lasts more than 24 hours and still running (26% left) - WORKED.
Follow the thread below to download the 2.12 radio
