Has the ota update fixed the lockups? - G2 and Desire Z General

I'm on the fence with the G2 and the vibrant. I don't get a good signal at home and am concerned about lock UPS and reboots with the G2. If you had these issues with your phone, did the ota update fix them?

my lockup issues went away when i disabled backup apps to google servers, and i havent had any random reboots from going in and out of coverage since - im on OTA now too.

It fixed the reboot issue for me

I've had 1 random reboot since the OTA. So you'll still have to disable the google app data backup thing.

i was getting alot of reboots before the update.... not once since the update

I was optimistic that this would help as I really don't want to have to return my phone, but my phone just froze up again. I have not seen the reboot issue, but the issue where the phone locks up and refuses to turn back on without pulling the battery.

I reenabled data backup and left my office today where I have no reception and didn't lock up or reboot! so maybe ota did fix that. it always froze up or rebooted before.

Non-rooted Vibrant random restart?

It seems to happen after the phone has been on for an extended amount of time. I don't have lag, and I'm not using the gps when it happens. In fact, it usually happens when I sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? My phone is not modified. I'm even running plain touch whiz. I'm considering returning if I can't resolve with a hard reset. No third party apps are running when this occurs. I routinely close processes before I stop using the phone. I love this phone, I'm just worried I have a bad unit.
i'm having a similar issue, but with a rooted vibrant. the problem has spanned across two different handsets. the first one i rooted almost out of the box. but after a few days it started locking up after sitting for a while and i would have to pull the battery to get it to come back on. so i returned it, got a new one and held off rooting it to see if this one would do the same thing. the non rooted one had no problems at all, so i bit the bullet and rooted this one too, and sure enough later that same day it started doing the same freezes when trying to unlock it.
as soon as i rooted the second phone i downloaded rom manager and made a nandroid backup. after the backup i proceeded to remove some of the bloat, like dual clock, the startup/shutdown sounds, and some of the other crap that the vibrant comes with. i also installed and started up setcpu. it seemed that after i did all of this is when the freezes started up again. so i did a restore to before i removed all that stuff and now the phone is fine again. what is it about my process that is making this phone lock up like this?
EDIT: nevermind...i found some other people with the same problem in a setcpu thread...seems setting the sleep profile too low will cause the phone to not wake up after sitting too long
Uh, I'm not getting any freezing, but I know there is an issue with SetCPU. A certain setting will causes problems on the Vibrant. My issue is just unexpected reboots after the phone has been on for approximately 170 hours.
I had many random restarts and general craziness from my non rooted stock vibrant. A factory restore fixed all problems.

Yeah, if it happens again I'm going to try a factory reset.

Random rebooting

Ok I have noticed that my vibrant is randomly reboot more than usual. I can be on the web or checking email she'll just bog down and restart with no warning. Is anyone else experiencing this issue.
I have my phone rooted running launcher pro and theres one more thing I'm noticing more of the apps are not responding and force quiting are you guys have the issue as well

I have same thing but untouched vibrant. No root.
It has re-booted three times already since i got it (i.e. last two weeks)
The reason it is re-booting is because kernel is crashing. The reason is still unknown.
It could be GPS driver crashing the kernel or faulty hardware.
Best options is to replace the phone or wait for Froyo and hope this problem goes away.

SMS Force Close

so i am trying to fix this for a friend. her stock sms app force closes every time you open it. i have cleared the cache and data. no different. i have read that factory resets may fix the problem but they dont give what is causing the problem. which is not a valid argument to factory reset if they are just guessing. its completely stock. no root. any help would be awesome.
I've been having it happen too. Just hold down the power button and selecting restart works. Shutting off the phone once a day is good too

restarting the phone does not work in this case. i have tried a few times.
my wife's MT4G has started to show similar symptoms recently. random force closes, and she will have to reboot to get it to work, but once she reboots all of her messages are gone and smsbackup is not backing it up. Her phone is completely stock no root and never has been. (she won't let me touch it ) lol

My wife is the same way and her phone was buggy too...she got the update a week or two ago and so far so good....
the best thing to do is a factory data reset,as to why its force closing, it could be a simple bug or something went wrong on installing android on the phone. if it continues to keep happening go to t mobile an have them replace it,under warranty. the other option is to root an flash the new 2.3 update for the phone.

[Q] Phone shutting off randomly

Have had my nexus 4 for 2-3 weeks and it has shutdown on me 2 times so far. Both occasions the phone was untouched and was shut off without me knowing, how long and when I have no clue but on power up my wallpaper is reset to default. I don't notice anything else besides that being changed. Anyone have a clue to a fix?
What ROM u have? I'm having same issues. I'm using Xylon. I'm bout to flash Franco #28 kernel and see if it helps.
U should try flashing a new kernel too.

bone stock. haven't done anything to it.
I also get something similar. It happens when I lock my screen. Once the screen goes off, it sometimes won't come back on until I restart my phone by holding down the power button till it's off, and then booting it. I'm not sure about my wallpaper changing, but it has happened on every rom I've used. Also, It didn't happen on stock, but I don't think I was even on stock for a week.
This never happened when I had stock...it started happening when I flashed the ROM. Hope Franco's Kernel helps.

this happens to me from time-to-time. It's not a hardware issue, it think it's a glitch with this version of the os.

Well, I called and got an RMA. Seems like a known issue as well as a battery life issue some others seem to be having. Maybe they are connected in some way. Rep said this new batch they are sending out (RMA's) do not have these issues. I hope so...
Put me down as someone having this issue, Happen 3 time now, On stock rooted os.
I read that Google have confirmed there is an issue with the latest OS that can result in random reboots. I think it has to do with location services.
I also read that turning off any options for emergency broadcasts can help with random reboots.
Some widgets that use weather can result in reboots (due to them using location services to get correct weather), and since I disabled all emergency broadcasts and stopped using widgets that show weather, I have not had a random reboot (and I was having at least one every two days before). I am still using widgets that have the ability to show weather, but I just do not show weather and this seems to help.
Random reboots was causing a major battery drain for me and since I stopped getting these reboots, my battery lasts much longer.
I am on stock ROM, rooted.

Frequent Freezing and Reboots on 4APIA

On 10/17/16 I took the OTA to take me from the July Security patch to the September security patch, with build number G935TUVU4APIA.
With in the first day of the update I experienced the phone freezing on the home screen, then rebooting. Later on I found it had rebooted while in my pocket (prompted for pin and system up time was minutes). Ever since over past 6 days it has become frozen and rebooted multiple times a day. Anywhere 2 to 5 times a day doing various different things.
I have tried clearing all system and app cache since after the update. Unfortantely that has not helped at all. So what I would like to know is anyone else on this build experiencing these reboots, or was before and fixed it?
I'm trying to determine if its a bug with this build, cause I will be really annoyed if I have to go through the trouble of a factory reset, then find out it didn't help cause its an issue with this specific build. If some other stock people can confirm this build is not rebooting for them I will give factory reset a try.

Idon't have this build installed yet but the previous one and had the same issue, turned out to be my alarm clock plus app causing it to reboot on an alarm.

Dang that sucks, worse time for it to fail when its supposed to wake you up lol! Thanks or the suggestion but I don't think its app related since it happens on home screen, in app drawer, in chrome, and in my pocket with screen off. Unless its an app in the back ground. But I haven't installed any new in past 5 days apps that I would say are uncommon that aren't supported well.
Edit: I just checked. Since the OTA I did install 1 app the day after. The Nexia app for smart thermostat that came with my new furnace. I don't think thats it since I can recall at least 1 reboot after the OTA and before that app. But just in case I will uninstall that app for a couple days just to test. Thanks!

I use I cant wake up alarm clock and experience that too. I am rooted but still keep the alarm clock because it rearms on reboot and still works. so no biggie for me

I had a serious freeze/lock up last night. I am on the same build and NOT rooted. I even tried holding down the power button and the phone was unresponsive. Cap. keys stayed lit the whole time. After holding down for 45 sec or so it finally relented and rebooted. But this combined with random heat surges/ups really have me pissed.
Had the same issue. On u firmware now cuz i couldnt take it. One thing that seemed to help some was removing the sd card and wiping cache then rebooting. I let it run for a few hours then put in sd card. Seemed to help alot
I'm back to follow up with the results from uninstalling the only app I installed since the update. It actually almost went 24 hours without a freeze and reboot. I was starting to think it actually was the culprit. But then I had 2 freezes and reboot today.
So I have switched back to my Nexus 6P for a while. Thanks to those who also reported the same issue! Since other people are reporting the same issue it seems to be a bug in this build unfortunately. So here is to Samsung pushing out a fix soon. Until then I will be using my 6P. If they haven't fixed it in a couple weeks then I will probably flash to the U firmware too. What variant is the U firmware from anyways? The unlocked North America variant?
I installed the update and have been running it for the past four days with no problems to report thus far. If I get a reboot or any freezing I'll let you folks know. Perhaps try a factory reset.

I get a reboot twice a day. Sometimes the phone will freeze while I'm scrolling through my internet browser or it will reboot if I'm using the SAMSUNG branded car charger and Google Maps at the same time. Other times it'll just randomly reboot out of nowhere.
This is extremely frustrating. T-Mobile recommended that I get an exchange and I did get an exchange and the same day it rebooted on me. I called complaining that it's not a hardware issue and they told me to exchange the phone again. Smh.
This sucks especially since I use GPS a lot. This phone was/is perfect before the update.

Yeah... Carriers need to train their employees to be able to know how to tell the difference between a hardware and software issue. For example if a user reports something didn't happen until a recent update, then that should be an automatic sign to not waste that customers time with a pointless exchange.
