Replacement Question - G2 and Desire Z General

So far being one month in with the phone I love it. I recently had some flaky issues with my phone so I requested a replacement. The first exchange came but it had a broken MicroSD card door/hinge. I called them and I was informed that I would receive another replacement. The next day I received a text with a tracking number telling me I would receive my phone in 3 days. Well today now I decided to go to UPS to send the defective replacement and I received a new package today from UPS. Upon opening this package it was a BRAND NEW G2 sealed in the box. Is this a error? I mean even if I opened my new phone they sent me. How would I send the old one I originally have if they haven't given me the return box and paid UPS label?

[Q] How do I return my defective ?

I just received my exchange DVP. I must say I was surprised it came in a brand new box with all accessories where as most company's just send you a new phone only and you keep all your accessories from your defective phone. My question is : How do I return the defective unit; they didn't put a return prepaid slip in any of the boxes from which the phones came in ?... I've tried calling customer service but they seem very busy today, was on hold for almost an hour and gave up and came here !
Thanks
if your replacement DVP didn't come with a return shipping label you'll have to get ahold of Dell so they can e-mail you a link where you can print a shipping label.

Usually Dell will mail you UPS return labels seperately. Look for it in the mail soon if you haven't received it yet. Then just slap the label on the box that the replacement was shipped with and you are set.

Replacement Device from Dell

Ok guys so here is my story,
I called Dell and requested a new phone unit because mine kept restarting when opening/closing qwerty. They ordered me replacement device. What just showed up at my door was a brand new phone, box and all with no instructions on how to send back my defective unit. I have never done a Dell device exchange but honestly I don't even know what to do. Did Dell really just give me a new device and maybe forget to send me the return info? I am a very honest person and do not want to keep two devices even if it is Dell's mistake...Anyone else have a similar experience? And what should I do? I feel like calling Dells support will get me nowhere and to be honest I am running out of minutes this month lol
You should have got an email confirmation for your replacement request. Email the address given as a contact point in that email and they will send a link to a prepaid label. If you didnt get an email call support. If you dont eventually they will note that you have not returned your faulty device and charge you for the new one.

I have no confirmation email of any kind. And the strange this is, when the rep told me I would receive my phone it would be just the unit and I would need to keep my battery and just mail the other phone back. Why did they send me new phone in box?
Dell did the same for me when two replacements became back ordered. Got two new phones w/cables, batteries, etc. When I called, they said to keep the accesories for my time and trouble, but to return the defective units. I received emails to links for a return label as well as return labels inside of the shipping boxes, FWIW.
Just call Dell mobility and let them know your situation and they SHOULD be able to figure something out for u. Are you sure its a brand new device, because when I talked to them late last week I demanded a brand new device and they said it won't be until the end of the month before I can get a brand new DVP.

They've told me the same and I always got brand new replacements. If there is no sign of a label and you didnt receive any email contact them. They should send you a link to a prepaid label.
The return prepaid label comes in a seperate mail - usually in a week time from the data they ship the unit.

I actually asked for 2 replacement devices and both came with the return prepaid label inside them. I would say you're wrong, but with Dell.. you just never know!

The reason i am saying is in my case (2 instances), i got it separate. Worst case, tweet AmyatDell and ask her for a return label. She can email one.

replacement streak arrived today still have old one

My replacement streak arrived today but its a bit strange
I was under the imprecation that Dell were going to pick up my streak to repair it not send me a brand new one(not that im complaining).
And my old streak was not picked up(qdl tool would prop have fixed it) am I supposed to send it to them or do they pick it up.
I only ask as If i have got to send it to them then I will, but if they were supposed to pick it up I will wait to see if I get any phone calls from them. Obviously I don't want to ring them to ask them unless I really have to.
Any one who can shed some light on this turn of good luck would be much appreciated.
One word ... KARMA .. that always works with me.
Don't get me wrong I am over the moon, I just got a unexpected new phone, but Im still unsure as what to do with the old one lol
I had to call Dell to email me a shipping label to put on my old streak.

Dude, What the hell. Why are you here?
Return home from an oversea business trip, on arrived home and I discovered that I've taken someone else luggage which looks identical to mine. The content was full of real diamonds, should I phone and inform the airport and return it or keep it and wait to see if anyone contact me in the near future. What do you think?
ANOTHER THOUGHT .. You could box it up and wait for Dell to call you about the return. That way it shows Karma that you are prepared to return it but if they don't call you .... (shrug)
Replacement streak
You are lucky. I have been waiting over three weeks and was told won't be any until end of September 2011 and it will be a refurbish. I am p****sed off with the situation. If you received it by mail, the return label is in the box. I was told that when I receive replacement to ship back to them using the prepaid return label. Enjoy your new Streak.

This is what I do,I get the replacement,I use it for a few days and after that I send the old one. They should've told you to do so, they also should've left a sheet with all the directions you need to follow.
They can charge you if you do not return it.
@shineydesert

They will try to charge you.
Why did you ask for an exchange? is the same problem with the internal sd card?
Put the old one back in the box the new one came in. Wait a few days and you'll get a shipping label in the mail. Stick the label on the box and call fed ex to schedule a pick up. I've already got three replaced. Went this way every time
I was sent a replacement phone that was refurbished. I put the old one in the box that the refurbished one came in. Dell also included the return label. I'd say send it back and avoid any hassles.
If you look at your order status online, you will see they already charged you $1164.99 when they sent you the replacement base unit. ( how they figure this amount out is beyond me, when new streak sold for $300usd)
So if you don't return the old one you have with the shipping label they provided, they will first call to remind you, and send this to collection agency if they don't eventually get it back. At least they have your name, phone # and address

I was in the same situation before and ôte was UPS who collected it ... So put an old Nokia in the box lightly tape the box so if dell complained I could say that someone at UPS stole it ... Then you can sell it for the 100 bucks you want.. that's what I did..

Nice advice! Not only you are telling him to commit fraud, you are telling him to commit fraud in a very stupid way. I don't know where you live, but in the states this could involve the FBI, and you don't want them knocking on your door.

I didn't ask for a exchange, I thought mine was going to be repaired I didn't know that I was getting a new phone till it arrived.
The problem with the phone was files were either not copying to my sd card(tried 3 different cards) or when i downloaded things to my sd card or copied apps over they disappeared I think the sd card wasn't mounting properly.
I kept my streak with broken screen.. Lol. All I have dell was email, address, home number. No payment info.
I won that one

[Q] Craigslist Nexus4 16gb offer questions

I have an opportunity to buy a Nexus4 16gb locally on craigslist for $400 which is the same price as my Google order that won't come in for another 5 weeks. The seller appears to be legit after getting his name and googling his name. The phone is in the original box with the Google seal stickers on untouched. I asked if I could open and put my SIM card to make a test call but, he stated no since it would devalue the phone if I decided not to buy, which I understood. I asked for his receipt but, he said all I needed for warranty issues was the imei number on the phone.
Please point out anything else I need to be looking/asking for as I will be picking it up tomorrow at 7pm cst based on feedback from all the awesome members in this forum.

1. Great price, but I would be suspicious on his reasoning on selling it for $400, not much profit to gain (if at all).
2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape.
4. There wouldn't be any devaluing if you were to test the device with a SIM card. This is bs IMO. The only devalue would be if it was truly sealed and then which I can believe him.
5. I'm not sure about the receipt and warranty but depending on when he bought it. Google Play gives you 12 days for a RMA with them before you take it to the manufacturer. I would take the receipt though, as he can easily just report the IMEI and then you get screwed in the end or something.

2. Googling his name? What does this have to do with anything? Does he own a company or something? This part makes no sense to me. He is a starter company advisor locally and well known locally.
3. Google seal stickers... very easy to reseal it with black tape. I will have to inspect case and stickers when I go to buy it. If looks suspicious, will pass.
4. There wouldn't be any devaluing if you were to test the device with a SIM card. This is bs IMO. The only devalue would be if it was truly sealed and then which I can believe him. That is what he told me, the phone box is sealed and unopened. Will inspect before buying.

. Will ask for receipt for your reason mentioned.
See my answers above. Thanks for your input.
You can make a deal like, Open it and I will test a call and if works I take it otherwise wont. So opening it and not taking it is not an option
Yeah if he won't let you test it **** it. You can't find the phone anywhere opening the box will hardly devalue it at all, if even. Also you should try and get the receipt because AFAIK you need more than just an IMEI for the warranty.

I would not even consider buying it if you cannot test the phone. The phone might not even be in there for all you know.
THANKS to everyone who responded to my inquiry. Got back a little while ago with the new Nexus4. It is Beauty and the Beast. Already put the case on it and now downloading my apps. The seller was on the up and up, was able to test by making a call, go over the entire phone specially the front and back glass.
Now I get to sit and play with the new toy this weekend. Got to cancel my Dec 8th order and help someone else get theirs quicker.

Congrats. Glad it all worked out and nothing suspicious happened. Happy to hear that the seller changed his mind and let you test it.
I would research the S/N from the box with Google to see if it is stolen. Also if you buy it be sure to get a receipt from the seller to show you bought it and how much you paid.
I bought one from kijjiji $550.00 BNIB 16 Gb Didn't even put a sim in. Broke the seal looked at it that's it.. But I also got a receipt First thing called google had the warranty changed into my name they checked the imei and it was legit :good:
I suggest you get a receipt it has his name on it..
BTW he ordered nov 27 got it on the 29 I bought it dec 16..
Only problem is that only the original buyer can return the device to Google for an exchange if a problem occurs. And they do keep track of who bought them so without the original receipt your only option for the warranty is through LG. What LG does is have you send the phone back to them for repairs which can take a couple weeks and in teh meantime you have no phone. This has been discussed a number of times in several threads already as a few unlucky craigslist buyers found out when they wanted to do an exchange for a defective device.

No worries, I have his original receipt and google all is well with the imei and receipt for any warranty issues. Love this Beauty and the Beast phone.

[Q] RMA question

Hey so basically im getting a replacement for my N4 and because Google send out the replacement first they hold on to the £240 or £280 to ensure you actually send back the defective phone, so my question is has anyone done this before and how long do they take to release the money from my account because its kinda annoying seeing £280 held from my account because of an issue not caused by me.
I've shipped my RMA back this was a week ago and still not had any money released nor have I had any contact from them regarding my shipped back phone!
Not sure on others experience but I will phone them on Monday to see what the hold is!

Ok thanks for the info, im not sure how I feel about Googles replacement system I think id rather send my unit off first then get the replacement rather than them holding onto money from my account really dont like the idea of them being able to charge me £280 if a complication happens etc.
