HELP. Disabling Voodo, phone is stuck in reboot for 1 hr + - Fascinate General

Please help!!!, I have JT's Voodo (Ext 4 installed) on my samsung fascinate, and I tried deactivating it using the voodoo toggle app so that I could flash his super clean rom. Things appeared to go ok, but now i'm stuck on the reboot screen (have the droid peeing on apple) for an hour now. I know JT said wait it out, but I havent read about anybody having it in reboot for over an hour. I dont know what to do??????

You have a date with Adrynalyne's how to completely remove voodoo thread. Somewhere here in development.
good day. From the Fascinate sporting the XDA app.

Good luck

Thanks ice. Not near a computer.
good day. From the Fascinate sporting the XDA app.

got that, and it's already not working. I can't get it to boot into recovery.
Boot to cwm (battery pull, and hold up volume while putting it back in and connected to usb),
when I do that, it just comes back up to the droid peeing boot screen.

Is it that hard to post your question in the right spot?

Hold both vol up and down and then power and that will get you to stock recovery.
highlight apply sdcard:update.zip and hit home button. Now you should be in Clockwork.
In clockwork the back button is accept.
good day.

Since it's a problem with voodoo developed for the fascinate, the developers of voodoo might know the best answer. And since there is no help and support section, this is the next best section to put it.

Hold both vol up & vol down then hold power until you see "SAMSUNG" then release only the power button - keep holding vol up & vol down until you enter stock recovery.
Once in stock recovery use the volume rocker to select "Apply update.zip" you will need to use the "home" soft button to select it. This should get you into Clockworkmod recovery.

Don't mind him he could give a **** about lending a hand with a borked device. He could have sent a pm to the mod to have it moved. Hope your devoodooing works.
good day.

cant get to clockwork from stock recovery
Ok, so part of that worked. I got into stock recovery, but I couldnt get into clockwork. I think it was because I moved the update.zip file into a folder on the sd card that I had made to keep all my rooting related zip files organized.
Am I totally screwed now, or can i do something to fix this??

Pull card from phone and use a reader to move it back to the right place.
good day.

Thank you, guess I'll be without a phone until I can track down a reader, or an adapter. My computer only reads mini and above.

should just be able to use adb to push CWM update.zip to SD root, and run that via reg recovery... then run the auto unvoodoo'er or manual method
I did this with no problems and then unvoodoo'd myself after a mess up. ADb should still be able to push a file if you are in recovery mode

ok, i ll give that a try. Thanks

I had the exact same problem and when I say exact thats what I mean. I could get into stock recovery but not clock work. finally I tried the update zip from stock recovery and with the vodoo it would not read it from the card. So what I did was push CWM back onto my phone through Odin and once I did that the update zip was back on the SD card and I could get onto CWM from there by choosing update.zip from stock recovery. Once I did that I pulled the SD card and put it in my HTC eris and went to adrynalyne's site and put the undo vodoo.zip on the SD card, thats the simple download at the bottom of the page. I put the card back in my fascinate and booted into stock recovery chose the update.zip which put me in CWM recovery and from there chose the undo vodoo.zip. when I hit reboot it did not take long at all but it was back to normal, give it a try ,wosked for me.

By the way, that vodoo on off switch app comes in very handy. But every time you turn it on or off you have to hit reboot in order for it to take effect. If you just tuned it off and started flashing you got vodooed

I put my card in a friend's phone to move the update.zip back to SDcard root. He left, so I ended up using adb push to put the voodoo_uinstall on my sd card. After a reset, and nandroid backup, I'm up and running pre-voodoo. I'm sure I'll be back on a version once I figure out which ROM (prob JT clean ROM) I want to flash on my phone.
Thanks for all the help everyone!

hey, question were you using the voodoo 11/02 stable from rom manager?

[How To] Root DL09 flash DL30 ROM - Fascinate

I have debated if I would just wait for the official DL30 update. But I bit the bullet. I decided on the 4th. I was having issues getting the custom recovery to stick, so I ended up just combining both of them. It almost seemed like there was file consistancy checks upon the fascinate booting up. I have gathered my information and files from XDA-Developers. That is a great site for anything about smartphones.
All credit goes to nitsuj17, OMJ, Syn Ack, and punk.kaos this is just what I needed to do to get my phone rooted and flashed with punk.kaos's DL30 ROM.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU DOING. THIS WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR PHONE.
THIS IS JUST THE STEPS I DID TO GET MY PHONE TO FROYO.
THIS IS FOR VERIZON ONLY PLEASE DONT USE IF YOU ARE NOT ON VERZION
****************************************************************************************
Files Needed:
Samsung Drivers
Odin
CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5
update.zip
su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
DL30_leak.zip
new_cwm.zip
1.) Install the Samsung Drivers
2.) Place Odin3 v1.3.exe and CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 in the same folder on your pc
3.) Place the update.zip, su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip, DL30-leak.zip, and new_cwm.zip in the root of your sdcard (root means not in any folder just on the sdcard)
4.) Put your phone in download mode by taking out the battery. Then hold the volume down button while plugging it into the usb cable attached to your computer
5.) Open Odin
***************************************************************************************
THIS IS IMPORTANT > DO NOT TOUCH ANY SETTINGS IN ODIN, ONLY USE THE PDA BUTTON AND THE START BUTTON.
IF YOU TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS IN ODIN YOU COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE.
***************************************************************************************
6.) So press the pda button then select CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5
7.) Press start (Note this will reboot your phone when complete)
8.) Power the phone on while holding the entire volume button down. Let go of the power button when the Samsung logo shows but keep holding the whole volume button.
9.) This will boot you into the stock recovery. Use the volume rocker to move down to apply sdcard:update.zip then press the home key
10.) After it applies you will be in clockworkmod recovery
11.) Use the volume rocker to navigate to install zip from sdcard. This time though you will use the back key to select. (I know it is annoying that there are two different select keys but get used to it)
12.) Navigate down and select choose zip from sdcard
13.) Navigate to su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip press back to select it
14.) Navigate down and select Yes – Install su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
15.) Once that is done press the search button to go back a menu
16.) Next, go back to the main menu and choose "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", do this twice for good measure. Then choose "Wipe Cache Partition", do it twice for good measure, it doesn't hurt anything.
17.) Once in Recovery, choose "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" > Then locate your "DL30.zip" file that you downloaded earlier. Choose it and then hit YES. Once complete, takes less than a couple minutes usually.
18.) FINALLY, choose "Install zip from sdcard" > "Choose zip from sdcard" > Then locate your "new_cwm.zip" file you downloaded earlier. Choose it and hit YES. YOU ARE DONE!!!!
Reboot the phone and enjoy your rooted, bloated, official copy of Verizon Froyo.
For the record, this update ONLY works with DJ05 and DL09 radio. Meaning you must download and flash it to your phone if you do not have it or you won't get texts and probably won't be able to make calls.
I am working on my own hybrid ROM that is taken from punk.kaos’s and adrynalyne’s customer ROMs.
It will remove all the bing from the phone but will keep Samsung’s TouchWiz. I am also thinking about integrating the Hulu app.
Stay here and I will keep you updated.

At no point during steps 7,7,8 can you let the phone boot into the os... everyone is getting screwed up with this (including me). the op should have pointed this out. something in dl09 doesn't let you boot into cw the old way. flash cw via odin, then stock recovery update zip, then boot into cw, then flash froyo, then flash new cw. Confusing I know, someone around here explained it better.

Ok, yeah, what I did was flashed CW then let the phone boot up. I'll give your way a shot
edit:
It worked! You rock! I flashed CW with Odin, then immediately unplugged it, put the battery back in, held down the volume button and power button, applied updatezip, and got the CW menu!
Really I was just wanting to apply the root to the new update. This worked!
I really REALLY thank you, man!

All,
I have read these forums for months and now finally wanted to root and update to 2.2.
I haven't found the answer yet regarding what base setup I need to have on my Fascinate?
Can I do this with the following?
Firmware version:
2.1-update1
Baseband version:
S:i500.04 V.EA28
Kernel version:
2.6.29
Build number:
SCH-I500.EA28
I am sure you all might laugh however someone who hasn't payed real close attention would like to know the answer.

The answer is yes.
This worked for me finally, but I had to go completely back to stock first to make it work.
Good write up Thanks!
You should just flash DL09 back and backup and remove Active Care...keep EA28 out lol that'd what I've done...then again I don't use pattern lock so the emergency call bug isn't an issue.

Can someone upload EA28 version(Factory restore) need to update but i don't want OTA,,thanksz

[Q] Totally screwed up my phone

I Rooted my phone.
Installed ClockworkMod rom manager
Tried (numerous) times to do a backup, but it always says "can't mount" or "can't open" and fails.
I've lost my bluetooth and vibrate in the process.
I am (and was already on) EA28 when starting all this.
Can anyone help a confused newbie???
I'm not any idiot, I'm a software developer and ASP.Net web developer. But all this Linux style command line stuff is beyond greek to me...
I'd like to get to the point where I had a known-good backup and could try using the DL30 leak.
I have Odin working on my laptop but have uninstalled "superuser" in an effort to get vibrate and bluetooth working again. As I said, it's a mess.

I would follow the "beginners guide" to use the one click root method to get root back. Then flash the stock DL09 that's in the forums using odin to get to a point where you can push DL30 out.
Open ODIN, go get a DL09.md5.tar from the development section,
Take your battery out
Plug in the USB ** While holding Volume Down** (thanks for the save Superchunk)
Once in Download mode add the file to the PDA on Odin
Press start
It will erase EVERYTHING HOWEVER bring you back up and running
Alwasy a good idea to keep that file handy incase this happens again, just re-flash
***Note once you flash DL09 to fix everything, your again NOT Rooted, your back to Stock!!!!
(Just on what i use, i've always rooted my phone using http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html)

I'll try that when I get home. Never had DL09, went from DI01 directly to EA28, which seems to be a bit of an orphan.
Following your advice(s), what should I be doing to protect my ability to get back to a state where I can use Verizon's updates when and if I want to?
Bob Graham (Newbie Extraordinaire)
Got it working now....
This thread got me on the right track:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944365
Now I have some issues, if that's the right word. Successfully onto DL30, but one of the last instructions on that files was for installing new_cwm.zip.
I don't see Rom Manager in my apps list, though Superuser is there.
Can I install CWM from the market now, so it will show in my apps? Or will that just corrupt the right one that is there(???) but not visible?
Bob
Cwm its a recovery which is flashed through samsung stock recovery. If you download the proper cwm file (which can be found in the dev section) you can power your phone off, then hold down both the volume up and down buttons, then while holding those buttons press and hold the power button til the samsung logo comes up. Blue text soul come up, which would be the stock recovery. You can then flash the cwm file (which you should have placed on your sd card) via the install .zip option in recovery.
Rom manager of available through the market.

[Q] cannot flash from CWM

wife just got new mt4g. rooted through gfree method. downloaded Rom Manager from market. Flashed recovery. went to hboot. hit recovery. CWM poped up. use down arrow to get to backup and restore. press power and...... nothing.
The text menu disappears and the Rom Manager icon is there, nothing else. Press power again and the text menu comes back. nothing responds. have to pull battery to boot. it is CWM3xxx whatever. text is orangish.
tried to uninstall Rom Manager. Use an older CWM2 version. Flashed recovery again. Rom Manager shows 2.5.1.2. But when reboot into recovery, i'm still at CWM3 recovery.
she wanted pink android battery icon mod. had to get framework-res.apk from the mods flashable zip and adb push. so she is happy for today.
I read some stuff about recovery problems but most of the CWM threads are about version3 for getting to Cyanogen. I'm just interested in getting CWM to work at all.
Not a noob to this.... just this phone. Flashed her mt3g to CM6. Flashed the helllllllll out of my vibrant testing for devs and my own app development/mod/themes. I know my way around an android.
My next step is to try and get back to stock and start over. Any ideas or advice?
Thanks
use the trackpad to select things in clockwork recovery, not the power button.
Holy f'n stupid. im an idiot. The hboot said power. So I just figured cwm was too!
Thank you!

I can't update to ANY rom...

I wanted to update to CM7, once it rebooted into recovery mode it gives me an error. I got the official Sprint update and the same thing happens. Once it verifies the file, something happened and it says there was an error and does not update. I did a factory reset on the phone, got the official sprint update and the same thing happened. The error is always "signature verification failed" on both roms.
What can I do?
Thanks.
When flashing a rom, are you selecting 'install from SD" then find where you saved the zip, etc?
It sounds like you're trying it thru the update.zip option (don't do that). Also, when you reboot into recovery, you should be seeing orange type clockwork 3.0.0.6 (not blue or green).
Ask if you have any other questions.

I am using clockword mod 3, with their option on updates.
I don't know how to do the "update from sd", haven't seen that. I'm not sure if I am seeing the orange you mention...I just go to restart in recovery mod from CM3.

If you don't see orange text you're not on CWM3, you are either on CWM 2.5 or stock recovery and neither of those would be used for what you want to do.
Ya, check out the development section on getting the latest clockwork, if you don't have it already. And just in case, first, try powering off your phone, then hold camera button, volume down and power (after device is completely shut off). If you don't see orange text, you should update to the latest clockwork.

The phonr wont respond...I can toggle between the options but thats it.

And now the phone is stuck in the SAMSUNG screen...

If you are able to get into CWM or download mode then your phone is not bricked. It sounds like you will have to use ODIN to restore your phone back to stock.

ClockworkMod 3 automatically converts your phone's filesystem from RFS to EXT4. You need a ROM that supports EXT4 or else it won't boot.
You wanted CM7 so go ahead and flash that if it's on the sd card. If you don't have it on the card it's easy to fix. Just turn off your phone and plug your memory card into a computer and copy a ROM that supports CWM3.
Once you flash a ROM your phone should boot normally.
Bro, when u boot into clockwork (orange) are u opening the slider and using the arrows and enter key. ? You shouldn't be using the home key.
Don't be so quick to "I'm bricked" .. cuz that's rarely the case. And annoying when ppl are trying to help.

K, thx for being patient. I did Odin and its again working.
Now the phone updated to 2.2.1
For future reference, can this Odin method be used o update to a non official rom (like CM7)?
Thanks for all the help.
I wouldn't rely odin for that, and as far as I know, no. For frame of reference, I've probably flashed epic roms over 100 times, and have only odin'd 5-- Used mostly to return to stock/update a modem. So, odining probably wasn't necessary for you. Do what arashed says a few posts up.
I'm using SRF 1.1.0/Twilight Zone and its amazing. Battery lasts a lot longer too.

Need help flashing CM ROM

I'm having trouble with my samsung vibrant (galaxy S) I want to flash CM on it. I have root access, Clockwork Mod recovery, and ROM Manager. I go in to ROM manager and select flash ROM from SD card, I select the CM ROM which I downloaded but it gives an error "Status 7" when trying to install, and will not flash the new ROM. Any help with this would be appreciated.
ok first go into clockwork recovery on rom manager and pick flash clockwork recovery and pick vibrantmtd then pick 3x NOT 2X! Then go to download rom and choose cm7 nightlie 8 or under as above have many probs. On ur nightlie choose all three! wipe data, wipe dalvik and backup rom. On ur second nightlie u just have to wipe dalvik and backup rom.
Thanks for the help. I tried that with a slight variation. I had to manually put the ROM on the root of the SD card and named it update.zip. I flashed clockwork recovery and selected 3.x as you said. I selected all 3 options for backup and wipe. Once in recovery I select "Reinstall packages" and it finds update.zip but aborts installation with "Status 7"
Ur doing it wrong. Update package is for only rooting ur phone.

First root ur phone! Then follow my directions to get cm7
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
the phone is rooted. Is there an easy way for me to double check that? Maybe I'm confusing two processes, but I do have the ROM on the SD card. Am I trying to apply it incorrectly? When I'm in recovery my only options are:
Reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
format internal SD-card
I'm used to see other option such as on my MT4G which has "install zip from SD card" That is what I typically use to flash a new rom.
Sorry if I'm missing something, but I do appreciate the help
I've been messing with it all night. I wound up doing the ODIN to JFD to get myself back to 2.1. I installed rom manager again, and it appears that when I tell it to flash clockwork mod and then reboot in to recovery I am actually going to stock recovery. I think the options that I listed earlier are for stock recovery as well. I think the main thing I'm missing is the "Install ZIP from SD Card" option in recovery. I guess at this point I'm unsure if I'm rooted, and don't know how to get the correct recovery so I can flash the ROM I'd like.
If ur recovery is blue then u need reinstall packages twice then u will be rooted, then it will turn green. Then go into rom manager and flash clock work recovery. Then put ur rom on internal sd and ur ready to flash. Enjoy
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Ok, so we can narrow things down a bit. My recovery is blue. I've downloaded the update.zip that I found from "NOOB Root guide" here on XDA, but no matter how many times I reinstall packages recovery never turns green.
I've also tried the one click root method which does the same thing as above but it just automates things a bit. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300)
Bump.
Many thanks to movieaddict who has helped so far, but it appears that I don't have root access, and the typical steps found in this thread are not working for me. Any other ideas?
ok is ur phone hardware locked?? by checking by doing this do the 3 button combo to get into download mode. First power off ur phone then plug in ur usb cable to phone and into pc then hold down the up volume and down volume and THEN hold down the power button and let go after a few sec u should see download mode.. If it goes into download mode then ur phone is not hardware lcked and we can go from there if it is hardware locked? then follow this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801722
if it isnt hardware locked then make sure update package file isnt corrrupted and make sure u put it on ur internal sd card. Make sure the update package is 632 kb sometimes when downloading stuff happens.
im gonna tell u how i do root and flash! First odin back to eclair must easier to root then. Second put the update package on ur internal sd card and dont unrar it leave it as is. Then turn off ur phone and hold down the up volume and the down volume and THEN the power button and as when u SEE THE vibrant logo let go of power button. Ur recovery will be blue then select reinstall package and select yes, it will then go through stuff and come back to recovery blue then do it again and it will turn green. Once its green then select the rom u want to flash and ur ready to go.
Thanks again. From your instructions I can tell that the phone is hardware UNlocked. I've previously gotten in to download mode. also, I see some differences in how you describe the root process. The update.zip is 633kb, I'll try to redownload it again... also, when I hit reinstall packages I am not prompted with yes/no, it just does it. It is a very quick process, and then it auto reboots the phone, but you said it should bring me back to recovery. I'm not sure why that would be happening
I'll mess around with this some more tonight. Hopefully I can nail this down. Sorry to be a PITA.
yah it should bring u back to green recovery after doing it twice! Yah that was my bad it asks u yes or no when flashing...lol!
Sent u pm!!!
Try Superoneclick root! That always works for me. When u reinstall packages and it reboots, clockwork usually has NOT been installed, I always Odin then install Tom Manager, flash Clockwork, then its off to the races!

I get the update.zip on my sd card, I boot in to stock recovery (blue) I reinstall packages, the phone reboots in to normal boot mode, I reboot in to recovery and reinstall packages again. I repeat this process multiple times hoping that one of these times I'm going to see a green recovery. I know it's all smooth sailing from there. I even recorded a short clip of me doing this.

Is it possible that i've tried so many different way of doing this that I have the phone in a weird state, and now these guides aren't working due to those previous attempts? I tried super1click... wound up getting an error "Getting mount path" ... "failed"
A simple way to check for root would be to download Terminal Emulator from the market and type in "su" without the quotations. If you get $ or permission denied you are not rooted. If you get a super user prompt followed by a # you should have root. Also which rom are you on now? If you are on stock Kb5 the recovery could be giving you some issues trying to flash the CWM recovery or at least for me it did. I suggest using ODIN to go back to JFD, then using super one click root (make sure your screen is set to not go off for the 10 or 30 minute time frame) I suggest this because I have had the "failure to mount" issues many times and it only seems to happen if my phone screen goes off while attempting the root. Once super one click completes, reboot your phone, install Rom manager, then reboot into recovery. You will have to select re install packages from there. The clockwork screen will be green as a few others have stated. I have attached an image below of clockwork, mine is orange since it's cm7 but yours will look similar, but green. From here just choose install from zip sd card, choose zip and flash away. Best of luck to you!

Is there something that removes the root access when you reboot the phone? I flashed the recovery for Galaxy S Vibrant (NOT Vibrant MTD) and was able to get to CWR (green), but sometimes when I go in to recovery it is back to blue... if I reinstall packages it takes me to green. Along those same lines I notice SU keeps asking me if the same application can have SuperUser permissions, so it seems like something is not sticking.
are you on 2.1 or 2.2? if you'r on 2.2 and use the update.zip it wont work you have to use superoneclick root ,happened to me too.
Thanks for responding. The phone was on 2.1 because I used ODIN to go back to JFD.
I've since sold the phone (didn't care for it much) and gotten a G2X (which I'm also not wild about). Thanks for all the help everyone!
