GPS problem on bionix - Vibrant General

I have bionix final rom. It seems my gps it's not working. I never can get a lock on. What is the problem? My location is Malaysia. I'm not using assisted. Please help.

click the link in my signature and in the first and second post I have the steps you need to take to have it work perfectly.

i had problems with bionix final, thought about flashing the ji2 gps, though, the ji6 gps was working fine in 1.9.1. but i ended up just flashing fusion anyway and gps is back to fully functional. i know that doesn't answer your question necessarily, but i posted in the final thread about the gps and never got an answer.
so try flashing a ji2 or ji6 gps (even though final is based on ji6) or flash fusion or 1.9/1.9.1.

You might want to flash to something where you had a reasonably working GPS, if that was ever the case for you. Then flash to 2.1 from there.
I'm looking at the tweakable settings of the GPS code now, but don't yet have much to add. Lastly, try flashing Axura 2.0.4 and see if that works for you. I get the best results on that ROM and I think it has something to do with the gps configuration file. But, as I said, I'm still investigating.
When you run your tests, is WiFi turned off?

So... about this GPS problem...

I have been diligently searching for a thread to pop up along the lines of "GPS FIX" But I can't find any. I just wanna know if there is a definitive fix in the nightlies or not?
Not really. Some people are replacing their gps framework with one from an early nightly with generally working GPS. Other than that it seems different radios etc. Are having varying results.

Bad news here, I am on cm7 nightly 17, still without GPS( It worked only once).
The once worked method, which is replacing gps.vision.so from nightly #4 no longer works.

Yea this is how its been for several nightlies. GPS works on first reboot, but it doesn't work if you turn it off then back on again. I'm on #17 too.

This is the issue I had. I didnt mind replacing the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 into the new Nightly's but now thats not even working on Nightly #17. It seems the GPS issue is getting progressively worse.
I'm on RC2 and was able to get my GPS working by flashing the latest AUS radio image (12.28h.60.140f_26.06.02.27). Before flashing it I was still on the old version from tmobile (12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15). After flashing the AUS radio image my GPS started working but I was having problems with the reliability and speed of my data connection, even standing less than 800' from a T-mobile tower I was getting 1.5Mb/s download at best and it would only come in bursts. At that point I flashed the T-mobile image (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26) from the OTA update and my data problems were fixed, started getting a steady connection and 4Mb/s+ download standing in the exact same spot, AND my GPS was still working. I've rebooted my phone several times since then I used the GPS for about 2 hours strait yesterday so it seems to be persistent and stable.
I have found that if I leave my GPS ON before I flash a new nightly or ROM, that it works fine. I have only ran into the GPS issue a few times but that was because I had it off before I flashed a new build. Never messed switching RADIOs or anything.
Here is what I have done to fix issues:
-If I flashed a new CM7 Gingerbread ROM without GPS ON prior to the flash, I usually go back to CM6 and turn GPS ON and then reflash the CM7 ROM and it works.
-Yesterday had a strange issue though, I went to Flash a new CM7 nightly and sure enough I forgot to leave GPS ON. So I went back to CM6 and tried to turn GPS on and it didn't work. So I then Flashed one of the MIUI ROMs and that still didn't work. So then I tried Flashing the newest Nightly from CM again and it worked very wierd.
That has been my experience with this GPS issue. Some how I have managed to fix it myself without too much trouble. Hopefully this helps people with these issues.

This worked for me also. I backed up RC2 with gps on, flashed MIUI, and then restored and blam it worked! thanks, I needed this so badly.
I had this problem for a while as well. Flashing CM7 #3 did the trick for me. I downloaded a copy of xboarder56's stock GB test ROM today and I have to say it works flawlessly! Smooth and fast and with working GPS.

So from the input I gather that nightlies have not yet fixed the problem. Since I don't need the GPS until the summer I guess I can wait a month or two before searching again...
Gps works fine for me.
Sent from my G2 running Cyanogenmod 7.
Fixed the GPS issue on CM7 by upgrading the radio:
Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17. It works just fine in the US.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OKYRIPQW
To flash radio you must have radio s-off using gfree.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764
You need to downgrade to the stock kernel or CM 6.1.0 for gfree to work.
I'm not sure what the problem is either, but I decided to leave the GPS/Navigation running over one night. When I woke up, the GPS fixed itself. I haven't had a problem since then.
use these basic steps to try and fix the gps:

But does it work when you turn GPS on/off/on after rebooting? My GPS works fine after flashing a new radio till I turn it off and back on again.

Thing is mate i am on 2.3.3 gingerbread UK...
Hk
I am in Asia but I am using 2.3.3 XXJVO (Europe I think) and my GPS always locks in less than 20 secs with 7-9 satellites, accuracy 10-30m.
It used to be very bad with 2.2, almost never got locked
You can also try GPSFix on the Market, it's free
I also have much better results on Ginger then on Froyo.
However the thread that helped my GPS a lot on Froyo was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881941
It improved GPS locking drastically.
Have you thought about changing the modem?, Is the most logical.
We propose the following if you have GB 2.3.3:
PDA: I9000XWJVH
Phone: I9000BUJV3 from BUJV9
CSC: I9000OXAJVK
KERNEL : speedmod-kernel-k15h-t4-300hz
And if you have GB 2.3.4:
PDA: I9000XXJVP
Phone: I9000XXJPY (Froyo 2.2.1)
CSC: I9000OXAJVP
KERNEL : Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0
Enjoy it.
1) you have not said what firmware youre on
2) since first jve modem from firstgb - jv1 there is no change in gps when you flash diff modems so THERE IS ABSOLUTLEY NO POINT in flashing back jpy modem
check my tiny mod link in signature
you will find there JVO JV9 and NEXUS gps files - try those
but first of all if you do not have gb flash one and best pick is 2.3.4 atm - that includes best gps atm

To speak of a starkly should be tested before things, if the modem does not affect the GPS tell me what element controls the GPS then?.
Reasoning gives the solutions because of the things, because if not done so will only be lip service, empty words.
i am trembleing to hear what indepth test youve conducted =)
but first before you start, take the files you can flash with my cwm packages - as simple as that
if you know how to test you will se noticable changes when flashin JV9 JVO and NEXUS cwm file
JV9=JVP (modem.bin out of all GB's got NO IMPACT on performance) - GPS is VERY GOOD
I flashed my galaxy with the Darky 10.1 extreme rom and I get GPS lock almost instantly.
I also get good lock on when inside.
You should try flashing your phone with that, takes a little bit to do but well worth it.

No thanks I'm just a humble apprentice, you are the teacher demonstrates what you say with facts, not words, because we all know about, I'm here to learn from people as wise as you.

Those with GPS issues

I was having GPS issues on EVERY rom I tried prior to remembering something I learned with my Epic 4g (Galaxy S).
I first Odin'd back to stock and when I did I Re-Partitioned and clicked Phone EFS Clear (this seemed to fix the GPS issue we were having on Epic) in Odin.
After this I flashed the EC09 modem with Heimdall (make sure you only use the modem.bin file when putting it in modem box).
Then I flashed CWM4 and then reflashed MIUI. I have since upgraded and downgraded MIUI multiple times and my gps always locks in less than 10seconds (make sure to use GPS Status to download GPS data on your first use).
The problem seems to lie with us flash addicts that like to try every single combo of every single rom and modem. The flashing and reflashing of modems seems to do something that screws with the GPS, I have since learned to find a modem that I like and stick with it, you can flash and reflash roms all day (in CWM) and it does not seem to effect the GPS (for me at least). I hope this helped people out.
Link to original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226074&highlight=efs+clear
edit: And one more thing, be forewarned you have to do *228 to reactivate the phone, and I even had to call Verizon and speak with tech support to fix my data but it only took them about 45 seconds and I was back up.

+1 flashed a nightly with latest kernel and got solid gps lock within 10 sec
My GPS is awesome. Both TKSGB and leanKernel worked fine in getting mine to work better. Using TSM Resurrection (although I'll be switching to PWGB soon due to stability issues).
Is jt's kernel still having problems with wifi and 3g not working when turning the screen on? I got tired of toggling airplane mode last time I tried it.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by odin flashing the MJ7 modem.
I'm on hyperdrive and also can't get a gps lock on a clear day. I tried everything from his gps quick fix in tweaks, fix permissions, gps fix apps, etc. I don't get a single lock. I'm on mj7 but maybe I need to reflash the modem? Where did you find the modem? I searched all over.
This sucks as I need the gps!

Currently attempting to install a stock rom on another safestrap partition. I'll try establishing a gps lock on that to see if it can hopefully re-configure the gps.

Has anyone tried changing to their "stock" partition (with stock ROM on it) getting a GPS lock on the stock then going back to a custom ROM on ROM slot 1? This was the fix with the dual boot Note 2 going back in between 2 ROMs.

Currently in the process of doing this. I overwrote my stock rom with hyperdrive to save space, so I'm downloading/installing a stock MJ7 rom in one of the other slots. I'm hoping this works. I will report back findings

I tested out the stock rom and got GPS lock immediately. Went back to Hyperdrive and still couldn't get a lock after 10 minutes. Popped back over to the stock rom and locked instantly again. Something isn't quite right..
---------- Post added at 02:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
Unfortunately I also can't post in the android development forums to let the dev know about my findings. If someone could do that and maybe even link to this thread that would be awesome. I've tried everything I could think and has been suggested at this point.
Another update - I installed a fresh flash of hyperdrive on another room slot and booted up to help rule out any application problems and the with the fresh flash gps did not work.
Just posted link in hyper drive thread and tagged developer hopefully we get a response to this issue we are having with gps.

Thank you very much good sir.
Seems like this issue might be being ignored. I'm amazed more aren't having this issue or just aren't using gps. The only difference I can think of is that I upgraded to MJ7 before flashing. I would think if it's not working after a clean flash that the gps issues would be very widespread. Maybe we can draw attention with a bounty. I'm certainly willing to contribute if this gets a fix.

I'm having this problem as well and I didn't upgrade to MJ7 before safestrap and hyperdrive. I found a temporary fix by going to google maps in your application manager and clearing data and cache but after a day of useage, it's back to not locking. Now the fix doesn't seem to be working, at least not from my backyard, i'll try it from the road and report back. Still, we need a real fix for this. I use GPS and google maps all day for work and I really can't deal with a problem like this.
anyone tried using gps status and check the number of satellites that you can possibly connect to (should be something like 0/18)?

I'm trying to figure out why your gps is not locking. I finished flashing cleanrom the other night and gps locked instantly. But it starting to look a problem because it's more than a handful of users with this issue. Did Beans or Sbreen get back to you?
