Thing is mate i am on 2.3.3 gingerbread UK...
Hk

I am in Asia but I am using 2.3.3 XXJVO (Europe I think) and my GPS always locks in less than 20 secs with 7-9 satellites, accuracy 10-30m.
It used to be very bad with 2.2, almost never got locked
You can also try GPSFix on the Market, it's free

I also have much better results on Ginger then on Froyo.
However the thread that helped my GPS a lot on Froyo was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881941
It improved GPS locking drastically.

Have you thought about changing the modem?, Is the most logical.
We propose the following if you have GB 2.3.3:
PDA: I9000XWJVH
Phone: I9000BUJV3 from BUJV9
CSC: I9000OXAJVK
KERNEL : speedmod-kernel-k15h-t4-300hz
And if you have GB 2.3.4:
PDA: I9000XXJVP
Phone: I9000XXJPY (Froyo 2.2.1)
CSC: I9000OXAJVP
KERNEL : Semaphore_kernel_JVP_1.2.0
Enjoy it.

1) you have not said what firmware youre on
2) since first jve modem from firstgb - jv1 there is no change in gps when you flash diff modems so THERE IS ABSOLUTLEY NO POINT in flashing back jpy modem
check my tiny mod link in signature
you will find there JVO JV9 and NEXUS gps files - try those
but first of all if you do not have gb flash one and best pick is 2.3.4 atm - that includes best gps atm

To speak of a starkly should be tested before things, if the modem does not affect the GPS tell me what element controls the GPS then?.
Reasoning gives the solutions because of the things, because if not done so will only be lip service, empty words.

i am trembleing to hear what indepth test youve conducted =)
but first before you start, take the files you can flash with my cwm packages - as simple as that
if you know how to test you will se noticable changes when flashin JV9 JVO and NEXUS cwm file
JV9=JVP (modem.bin out of all GB's got NO IMPACT on performance) - GPS is VERY GOOD

I flashed my galaxy with the Darky 10.1 extreme rom and I get GPS lock almost instantly.
I also get good lock on when inside.
You should try flashing your phone with that, takes a little bit to do but well worth it.

Have you tried fasterfix off the market? I think it needs root though.

FINALLY found the best battery saver modem!(downloads available here for all modems)

Just wanted to share with you guys, I flashed a JS7 pda and ZSJPG modem recently, and its simply amazing..the battery life is simply amazing..I had only 1% loss in 10hours..I recorded this very well before I went to sleep.the phone of course was in standby mode(NOT airplane mode), taskilled everything and its 79% when I left it there..when I woke up this morning..holy jesus..78%!!!! LOL..You don't have to doubt me, believe me or not..try it on your own..
Btw, I din't flash any kernel or use any tweaks..purely stock JS7, no lagfix no nothing..battery recalibrated of course.
you can find the modem here, big thanks to @addicted2088 for making it a .tar file so u can flash it through odin.

p.s. just found that this modem was mentioned in Doc's modem guide as 1 of the best battery life modem.lol..I think the battery life could be even better if + damian's undervolt kernel =) For those of you keep asking for battery life tips..perhaps you try this modem with damian's kernel first?
p.s.2 trust me, JPY modem sucks if you talking about battery life..I did exactly the same like above..taskilled recalibrating etc..leaving it overnight..and holy jesus..the battery dropped 4-5%..even WITH damian's undervolting kernel that time
p.s.3 YOU CAN DWLD ALL THE MODEMS HERE..A VERY USEFUL SITE, THANKS TO PERKA, YOU CAN BASICALLY GET EVERYTHING HERE, PLS BOOKMARK IT ON YOUR BROWSER =)http://perka.zapto.org/
I second that. Been running stock js7 and zsjpe modem and this has been the best setup ever on my phone. More reliable than any custom rom for me and physically just as fast as any quadrant STD hero rom out there. Its a keeper.

Guys, with JVE modem and Criskelo Gingerbread V15 ROM , I had same result - 1% over the night.
I think battery drain dependes pretty much on ROM used and apps installed, not only on modem.

I liked the jve modem alot on jv1 but was unsure how well a gb modem would be on 2.2.1.
Hows the Criskelo rom? Any fc's? Random reboots? Good enough as a reliable daily phone? I downloaded it but js7 was working so well I left my phone alone. The most reliable setup to date. Phone has not been rebooted or powered off for 4 days now and not one task killer applied. No auto record on calls. (The only reason for leaving Darkys)New subtle changes and 1500 - 1560 everytime on quadrant. Stock rom with voodoo. Happy as.

Criskelo ROM is great - no problem with v15 . Minimal tweak for low memory settings should be applied.
Does this modem support 850 band?

The same here with JVE, the best modem regarding batt life and signal reception. i tried ZSJPG, but i noticed that the signal reception was worst than XXJPY so i tried JVE and now i am happy camper.
ive tried the modem you recomend and i see improvement with my battery to !thank you !
Thanks for this guys.
Will try later.
I flashed darkys final and I got 40% drain over my 6.5 hours sleep. Spare parts told me it wasn't sleeping for 5 hours.

No, you cant use Odin with just 1 single modem file, you have to use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265..dwld the CWM file if you are using heimdall..and then extract the modem.bin file from the update.zip you dwlded..put that modem.bin file ONLY in the modem section and flash

ALWAYS disable lag fix and backup first when you are about to flash new stuffs unless its updates from kernel to kernel

lol welcome..This is the best modem I would recommend after trying a few on my own( in terms of battery life of course, JPY may better in wifi signals etc)
for more reference pls look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9579987&postcount=11945
If you would be so kind to put up all of the files!
me = first time for this rom & modem. Currently on JPY and NOT happy with battery life!! :_(
I have 512 pit file. Just need the other 3
p.s wait so you're saying we can have a rom, a different modem to the rom mixed in one firmware???

Yes, you can update/change modem using Odin by flashing the modem only, no pit and no re-partition, I do that all the time. The modem has a separate sector on the phone ROM, flashing modem only will not erase your applications or settings.
Good luck
tnx but what i need to mark on odin?

Bad reception with Darky 9.4

Hi
I have i9000m using in Canada with fido. I generally have a bad reception with darkys 9.4 version.
My wifes iphone always has a better reception at the same location. My phone has no bars and gets also lose.the R once a while (changes to a x)
Anyway i can fix it? Please help.
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I also had bad data reception with 9.4 - just updated to 9.5 its using a different modem (JVE) ... seems ok now.
You'll need a modern that supports the 850MHz band. Not sure if the JVE modem does but most of the ones bundled with Darky's roms don't.

Why don't you just update to v9.5? Its stable and has alot of bugfixes from v9.4.

Ok will do. Can apply the modem separately? Or do i have to apply the image jl2.image and then 9.5 darky?
The other think i dont know.how to update from 9.4 to 9.5 darky rom. Do i have to go first to stock and then to darky?

http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...9-x-to-9-5-in-10-steps.1813/page-2#post-20610
Use this to install 9.5
Download odin
Restart your phone into download mode - you can just power off and click download mode for darky's rom
After doing so, hook it up to your computer and open Odin
Under "Phone" field - select the ugjl2.zip listed above - that's the modem file used by Bell
Click "Start" in Odin
The update should be really fast. After doing so, it should restart your phone and you should be using the correct modem
For 850 band i use znkp1. 8 to 10 second gps lock, 5 to 15 meters accuracy, excelent signal (Argentina).
Can post link because i don't write too much here
thanks a lot guys for your help.
awesome i have reception again
i had to install the stock first, root and then install darky 9.5. it did not let me install darky 9.5. I have disabled lagfix and it was showing me next reboot it will be disabled but it still was enabled. No matter how many times i set it disabled it would not disable the lagfixes. Any suggestion for further upgrade might be helpfull and make the upgrade lot easier instead of installing to stock and then to darky.
You shouldn't need to go back to stock
You should be able to disable lagfix via recovery mode and then upgrade the rom afterwards.
Try disabling and enabling your lagfix with 9.5 to see if the issue persists still.
Might be an issue with your clockwork recovery not working properly somehow...
Post on the darky forum instead of XDA for more help.
ok will
what about the right modem for canada fido. Do you think JL2 is the best ?

[australia] android-v2.3.3 (optus)

anyone with an australian handset had much luck installing android v2.3.3 on their device without the help of a 3rd party rom like darkys or ultibread?
ive managed to install (original-xxjvk) functioning on samsung galaxy s with only a custom kernel if anyone is interested in a howto. ive only had my galaxy for a few weeks and have only managed to get it running myself without forced closes etc.
i dunno if anyone is having the same amount of trouble as i am trying to hook into android v2.3.3 but i think ive mastered it for aussies lookin to use the latest android on australian networks no hassles. i just didn't want to post a howto for something everyone has already worked out lookin like a fool. heh.
any replies appreciated.
I've been running stock JVK for about a month now, and Stock JVB since Saturday, Virginmobile (phone from Optus). No issues here.
Stock jvk with fugu mod, rooted and voodoo 7 sound with camera mods. I turned Hspda off today and since 7am till now 5pm still have 78%(and I use it fairly heavy). Runs well only thing I want next is android lockscreen and I'm happy.
On Virgin.

It took me a good 7 hours, haha all night trying to get GB on mah phone... had all sorts of problems as well.
Eventually, I installed I9000XWJVH, and it seems to be going good.
^^^
Just in time to flash 2.3.4 this evening
Downloading it right now.
Just worried about me having a non-stock kernel... using CWM (I think) with CWM Recovery... (CF-Root-XW_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS)
Are you flashing with Odin?
It wouldn't be a bad idea to flash the stock firmware first to get the updated bootloaders.
Yeah, I am using Odin.
flash stock jvh again?
Nope...
If you have your filesystem converted to ext4, just convert back to rfs.
If you really want to be sure of a clean flash, flash a 3 file firmware with a 512 pit and re-partition.
ok, well, I have no idea if I have ext4 or not... I don't remember ever seeing or doing anything with that, so, I am assuming I am still on rfs.
I have 3 files and a pit for the JVP. Do I just use those and flash with odin + repartition and that's it?
Don't need to do anything before?
I had stock JVK running for quite a while with no problems but with all the tasty looking ROMs out there I gave up and went for Simply Honey. First was using Darkys which was nice but SH wins me over with its lush blue-look =)
Now running JVO with no issues. Can get 6-8hrs heavy usage out of my phone =)
I know this sounds really blonde, but...
I'm trying to find a way to upgrade my Android OS to 2.3 (from 2.1) - however my phone is locked to Telstra and I'm finding it difficult (with my limited knowledge of Android) to upgrade.
Can someone please help me out? I'd be so grateful!
I found the best Guide to be: [GUIDE] Flash/Install/Update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 to I9000: Detailed guide for n00bs
It isn't too difficult but do read, re-read & go through the steps a few times before committing any changes.
Be prepared though... This flashing thing can get quite addictive as there seems like there is always another ROM that does just a little more than your current ROM & often just a little faster.
Good luck.
Oh - To keep all the grumpy forum members happy, do a quick search before asking a question such as this. You are not the first to ask this and there are many threads that have covered possible answers.
Just Updated to 2.3.3 Unbranded from Darky's Rom.
Had to Downgrade to 2.2 then to 2.3.3 as Odin just kept Failing.

[Kies][XEU][JVQ] 2.3.4 is now official!

Unfortunately isn't JVR, but... JVQ is now available on Kies for XEU product code!
Last modified: 2011-06-28, so I think this is the same JVQ that we already know.
I'm uploading it now, thanks for the info.

The version that kei_kusanagi uploaded is the version JVQ we all know, cause the files in the .tar archive are all dated 10.06.2011 and one (modem.bin) from 09.06.2011
second that,
is this the same bulid date as leaked jvq
Just updated. Date 10 june 2011
so its the same date because i was going to put my phone back to jm1 then update it to jvq throught kies but if its the same theres no point in doing it
The cache.rfs is different, but i don't think that this fixes the bugs that we all know:
GPS not working at all for some people with JVQ modem. If you flash the JVO modem, it's working.
Auto brightness working only with a delay of ~15 seconds. For some ppl it does not work at all.
Phone app crash, if a call over Bluetooth was ended by the "other side". Phone needs to be restarted after this. Happens with or without custom kernels.
So why are Samsung putting out through Kies an older of Android verion JVQ when they have a newer one JVR?
Just put my phone back to jm1then went to update through kies was offerd as a update to jvp

cache.rfs is exact same as in darkys leak-push - same date/time and size
- gps is working as it should on stock system
- autobrighteness: (same)
sensor is checking every 4 seconds for lux change when screen on only - ok for me not much spam
it takes 2 seconds after registering change in lux to change brighteness - for me very good response time

if it is otherwise saay thanks to your kernel/theme developer for breaking it
- it is not so easy to trigger for everybody and in fact phone restarts the crashed modules in like 30 seconds or so
there are a lot more issues not fixed with jvq and fixed with jvr
Anyone got the "process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" when ending a phone call yet or too early to tell dya think?
as it is the same files as in 'earlier jvq' the bug persist
Just updated from JVO to JVQ. Rooted with CF-Root-XX_UNK_JVQ-v3.7
Going to find jkays theme and get that back up and running.

Best stock firmware + modem combination for Galaxy S

Guys I hope it helps some of you who wish to remain stock.
I have been using the JVT since it came out, have been quite pleased with performance and battery life, however the wifi disconnection bug has been a pain during my long skype conversations and the phone fc has also happened couple of times while it should not...
I have tried to solve this issue using stock combinations and after several trials, the solution for me was to have stock JVT + JVK modem. Phone works really good, no fc bug, no wifi disconnection, great battery life and performance. I am honestly totally pleased and will not flash my phone again until we have ICS bug free for our phones
I honestly hope it helps some and please ignore this message if you think stock sucks.
you need to flash jvt first, and after that flash jvk modem?
so should flash jvk modem on to existing jvt?

I've been trying this combo for a few days and it's rock steady.

Hi, I am sorry to hear, somehow the wifi bug has not appeared for me after the flashing. I cannot explain why this is not happening now, but before it was coming always when I used skype, now it us not happening. Sorry I could not be much of a help! The phone fc bug also stopped for me after flashing xxjvk modem. I can only say that I'm probably a very lucky chap then.
jvk modem is good...but i didnot suffer any wifi disconnection with jvt modem ...i think problem is with jvs modem
