Smile detection is a software feature and not a hardware one. Perhaps the phone on the URL is shipped with a different camera app?
Otherwise you can have a look at the market and see if you can find a camera app with smile detection.

Well as the title says Im looking for this option for our camera. I know its possible because it was on 2.2 froyo. It was just called 1080 hd. So Im wondering maybe in some sort of add on could we add this option to the stock camera in the gingerbread stock. I know everyones seen the improvement in pictures with this update and with the bravia engine now the detail is unreal. Now wouldnt it be great if it was bigger?
Sent from my x10 on official gingerbread
Its not possible. The 1080p was only 2.1 mp not 8. Change your stock cam to 2.1 (16:9) feature and you will see its 1080p.
4:3 is the aspect ratio for 8mp on most stand cameras whether its a phone, digital camera, etc.
The second you start changing the aspect ratio, its usally gonna result in less mp. But why does it matter? Not like mp are what defines quality....use the 6mp wide option if you want full screen shots. The quality doesnt change.

there is a way to achieve 16:9 on 8mp its via 3rd party app called vignette once you buy it from market it gives you that option to do so. so there is a way yes..

No! Vignette does not give 8mp 16:9 images. It gives 6. Look at the exif info of your shots.

well vignette has option for 3mp , 5 mp , 8mp then you go from there to mm the last button on right i believe or bottom then it gives you option to select frames or something like that. thats where you see the option for 16:9. squared rounded & so on..

Exactly, and the second you change the frames you have changed the mp regardless of if you have it set on 3 ,5 or 8
Vignettes 16:9 option will give you 6mp image. Regardless if your set to 8mp

Please show me these images that do 16:9 with 8mp. Once you go and change the aspect ratio,,,the mp/resolution will change. Froyo cam wont do it, miui cam wont do, stock se wont, vignette wont, 360 ultimate wont.
And if im wrong, like I said, just show me an image along with the exif info displaying the resolution and mp
Im not trying to argue with you, I just want you to understand once your change the aspect ratio of the picture, it will change the resolution as well.

I may be wrong!
3264x2448 is 8mp but our stock 6mp wide also takes width of 3264 but at the height of 1836 instead of 2448 pixels!
same as vignette or c360

I'd rather have low compression or even no compression. At least then you start with a higher quality image you can crop/adjust without continous loss.

I was under the impression that SE has 720p ( HD) camera and not 1080p ( FULL HD). Also when we talk about 720p or 1080p, it is Video Capture mode and not picture mode. But I might be wrong......

Your absolutely correct!
The 1080p thing was a little overhyped. As its resolution is 1920x1080....2.1mp.

Hi all,
I know that the product is yet to have an official event for more in-depth look of the device, but when someone finds out exact specifications of the camera inside the phone, please share here. If it's around One X quality I would be fine with that.
Many thanks
so far it's known to be a Sony back side illuminated sensor at 8 mega pixel supporting HDR
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66-4uMQqerA
6:18
Now that I know that HDR mode is there, all I'm hoping for now is a fast shutter speed/zero shutter lag. Having burst mode would be a nice bonus, haha.
Since the Galaxy Nexus already have all that, its safe to asume this one will have them too, some of that are just software implementation. It will also have a sphere (360) mode.
Sent from my R800x
Does the Galaxy Nexus also have burst mode?
Most of what has been mentioned is software, the actual specs of the sensor is as follows:
Sony 5 element BSI Sensor
Aperature: f/2.4
Receptor size: 1.1µm
Autofocus

If this is true that would be a nice upgrade from the galaxy nexus. Can you point to the source of this info? Too many smartphone reviewers just compare images as a whole, mostly comparing default exposure & saturation settings. Real camera comparisons should be more like digital camera reviews, looking at 100% sections for noise under low ISO and high ISO. Also whether the picture is sharp from corner to corner. Everything else is software magic.

Yes, I am only interested in hardware specs. Can you maybe share source of your information and also what is the 35mm equivalent focal length?
Is it just me or does the heartbeat sensor look like a 3rd camera? and if so it's probably a low resolution, 0.3 mp camera. i know that cell cameras can read your heartbeat, i once had an app that did it, it worked pretty well. But if it is a camera.... we could set both at the same resolution and take 3D images! That'd be sick. Just an idea i thought of.

I'm sure that it's not a camera.
I seems like it's just a light intensity sensor of some sort.
It is unclear to me if the camera is completely the same. I read somewhere that that the five axis stabilisation is lacking on the x compact for instance. Can someone clarify this for me?

From what I read the camera should be the same, just that the XC doesn't have the 4k video mode.
5 axis stabilization will only activated in macro shot, other than that, the software will used 3 axis stabilization
Camera quality and functionality is same but I just played XZ and XC in a phone store and I think XZ with SD820 save picture a bit faster.

So basically is the same camera apart from that feature for the macro shots?
What is the use of Pixel Binning feature if camera app is not even using secondary 20mp sensor in any mode. Even in manual model it is taking 20mp size pictures instead of using pixel binning. Can someone guide me if am missing anything or MI is just doing false advertising??

The way the pixel binning works is that it upscales the photo afterwards back up to 20MP, I wish there was a way to turn that on and off however.

I dont think it works like that. Check attached image for reference. So there is no chance of up scaling after binning.
I found that the 20mp lens does take some great pics but you not only have to select that lens manually, the settings had to be set manually also. It seems the camera lens is fine, it's the camera app that does a poor job.

I think you should read about how upscaling works. Of course you will not gain any resolution but the final image will be 20MP again. Or any mp value depending on the scale factor
It works in my case it turns 20 mp to 16 mp, but gcam is better than mi cam without using pixel binning
