Well as the title says Im looking for this option for our camera. I know its possible because it was on 2.2 froyo. It was just called 1080 hd. So Im wondering maybe in some sort of add on could we add this option to the stock camera in the gingerbread stock. I know everyones seen the improvement in pictures with this update and with the bravia engine now the detail is unreal. Now wouldnt it be great if it was bigger?
Sent from my x10 on official gingerbread
Its not possible. The 1080p was only 2.1 mp not 8. Change your stock cam to 2.1 (16:9) feature and you will see its 1080p.
4:3 is the aspect ratio for 8mp on most stand cameras whether its a phone, digital camera, etc.
The second you start changing the aspect ratio, its usally gonna result in less mp. But why does it matter? Not like mp are what defines quality....use the 6mp wide option if you want full screen shots. The quality doesnt change.

there is a way to achieve 16:9 on 8mp its via 3rd party app called vignette once you buy it from market it gives you that option to do so. so there is a way yes..

No! Vignette does not give 8mp 16:9 images. It gives 6. Look at the exif info of your shots.

well vignette has option for 3mp , 5 mp , 8mp then you go from there to mm the last button on right i believe or bottom then it gives you option to select frames or something like that. thats where you see the option for 16:9. squared rounded & so on..

Exactly, and the second you change the frames you have changed the mp regardless of if you have it set on 3 ,5 or 8
Vignettes 16:9 option will give you 6mp image. Regardless if your set to 8mp

Please show me these images that do 16:9 with 8mp. Once you go and change the aspect ratio,,,the mp/resolution will change. Froyo cam wont do it, miui cam wont do, stock se wont, vignette wont, 360 ultimate wont.
And if im wrong, like I said, just show me an image along with the exif info displaying the resolution and mp
Im not trying to argue with you, I just want you to understand once your change the aspect ratio of the picture, it will change the resolution as well.

3264x2448 is 8mp but our stock 6mp wide also takes width of 3264 but at the height of 1836 instead of 2448 pixels!

So I was just wondering if there are any fixes to the camera on Android to make then 5MP. I know that the XTarantulla build has a 5MP Camera but I can't say the same for darkstones or dan's. Or at least I didn't get it. Also, I was wondering if there was a fix to make it 8MP like how we could go into the registry and edit it so that it was superfine and stuff. Just wondering. Didn't see anything about it here on the forums so I thought i'd bring it up.

First off, they are working on it.
if you can successfully find and pull the camera drivers from the XT build and put it in another congrats.
as for the 8MP, that's just silly. the camera only is a 5MP, it can't be set to take pictures better than the hardware is capable of
cyanogen rom by shubi has 5mp camera. it has proper flash exposure (no full white pictures) and camcorder with flashlight.

Maybe not up to true 8MP, but improvements can be done in software.
My old HTC Wizard's camera sensor is 1.3MP, with a scaled res. option for a pseudo 2MP mode.
Yes, it is not true 2MP, but an extra option over the standard 1.3MP.
This was done 4 years ago, why not now with our HD2?

Theoretically both the 5MP sensor and Snapdragon chipset are adequate, so is there any hope for HD capture?

I thought all that did was reduce the compression, and the HD2 had huge issues with the camera in WinMo underperforming to start with, any of the improvements used in WinMo brought it to a standard your getting in Android already.

From looking at photo's I've taken previously in WinMo (With those teaks) and Android, Android comes out the overall winner, those tweaks for WinMo simply give you what HTC should have given us out of the box in the first place.
Android does not seem to suffer at all in the camera department, at least not for me anyway.

Guys okay i can see all of you likes the camera quality and i think then is just me i cant do the right settings to it to get good quality pictures ... i read in this forum to get rid of task killers and use only System Panel and to disable the image stabilizer to get more focused and non blurry pictures but still i don`t think the quality is that great because the sharpness is big fail ...(or it is me not using the right settings) if i have to compare it with camera of nokia 6700 the nokia is taking better quality pictures ... if somebody can tell me what is the right settings to use i`ll be more than happy ty! atm i at as it fallows Normal capturing mode, 8mpx or 6mpx it depends scenes more often are in normal and using multi autofocus as common taking picture method
i agree, id be very interested in the replies, i put most of mine down to poor light but to be fair it should be able to deal with indoor lighting

Well, thing is, Vignette can't do that
And the stock camera app is compressing the files too much.
Why the hell SE doesn't give us the option to set compression level?
The camera is set at the default setting of 10mp. From reading on the forum I see people use this and don't up the mp to 13, is there a reason or an advantage to using it at a lower mega pixel count?
The shape of the photo is Instagram like with the 13mp. So people use the 10 because the picture measurements are correct.
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That's an interesting upside. One of the more common benefits would be for storage purposes. It is a smaller file thanks to using a smaller resolution. That being noted, the obvious downside is that it is a smaller photo.
I would say that smaller resolution doesn't matter, as the megapixel myth still plagues people to this day. However, from what I have read, the 10MP on our G2 is... decent. But apparently the 13MP is where the magic happens.
The only difference is the 16:9 vs 4:3 aspect ratio. The 13mp setting takes advantage of the entire sensor, whereas the 10mp setting crops the top/bottom of the sensor. IMO, it's best to just shoot 13 with the wider field of view, and if needed you can crop after, to whatever aspect ratio you'd like.
I use 13mp. It's 4:3 and is closest to the 3:2 I'm used to and find more pleasing. Not to mention you get more vertical fov.

well yes and no yes only 8mp no 16:9 in 8mp
2mp 16:9
I know , I know . it is the issue is with the aspect ratio (the ratio between width and height. At full resolution, the aspect ratio of the camera is 4:3. the screen aspect ratio is 16:9. So to display a 4:3 image on the 16:9 screen you need to either leave bands at the top and bottom, or crop some of the picture off the sides. And of course WE want the highest MP . But we have a LG-G2 .
Now now on my LG-G2 with this Lenovo Super Camera is working. And I can set to resolution 4160x3120 13MP and I will test to see if it really is to resolution .. I really dont know
Tested : yes I was able to take pictures at the highest 4160x3120 and 4160x 2340W. every thing works except burst shots .. to fast for camera to focus or to save picture .
A better camera is actually serving my purposes pretty well and it has a lot of handy features. Thanks for the recommendation.
What are the disadvantages of lowering camera resolution (shooting at non native resolution)? For example from 16 MP to 8 MP.
The resolution and file size would obviously be smaller but would it reduce quality of photos as well? Would it be better if I taken photos at native resolution and then resize them with some software?

The file size will be smaller and the resolution will be smaller. You wouldn't notice any quality reduction at all. Why not just shoot at 16mp and crop it to your likings anyways? Thats a better option.

The file size will be smaller and the resolution will be smaller. You wouldn't notice any quality reduction at all. Why not just shoot at 16mp and crop it to your likings anyways? Thats a better option.

Indeed, unless there comes some pixel bind mod there is no real benefit apart from the smaller file size.
Although saying that I ain't that bothered anyway. Have my proper cameras for important pictures, phone is for make do snaps
Shouldn't taking/saving pics be faster when lower resolution is selected?
more megapixels means more details (but when you zoom)
if you want to see photos on phone or regular TV or laptop (without zoom) , there are no difference between 16 or 8 or even 6 megapixel
but if you want to zoom or see on a large screen (cinema!!!) you can see difference
srsly...
