I have been following the HD2 for some time now and with my contract due for newel on the 21st of January I know what I want and where I am getting it from.
I have had a chance to play with it a bit but now am looking for a bit of feedback regarding the ROM Version - the ROM I saw on the deviced was 1.48 is this one past some of the problems I have been reading about - I know there are patches and I am fine to do them. I will be upgrading via Phones4u and hoping that I will not run in to some of the problems people are encountering with downloading the latest updates from HTC that need a SN - I will be on the Vodafone network.
Any heads up regarding this ROM and problems would be very helpfull..
Thanks
Scott
Well I got mine on Xmas day and it came with 1.48. Have not had a single problem with the rom so far.
I have been undertaking some careful setup, eg installing Memmaid to clear out memory and sort out lockups, then installing a whole host of tweaks either from the thread here and/or by using BSB Tweaks, a marvellous tool also found on here.
When installing software I have done this one at a time then made a backup of the device, ran the software to make sure everything is ok before moving on and repeating the steps.
Sounds tedious but this way ,if there is a ****-up, I can easily roll back to the previous working point with minimum hassle.
If you are happy with the device and the keyboard does not phase you then life's too short- go for it!
Bear in mind that in the worst case HTC should be bringing out a revised rom soon (he hopes).
Hope this is helpful.
WB
Thanks for the feedback. I am so going to have this phone next month and am liking the advice about installing and taking the time to get it right. I will look at the pieces of software you have mentioned. Really appreciate the input -
Like you I am hoping that HTC will be bringing out ROM updates regularly and soon - I have read about 2.1 version being tested in the states on T-Mobile lets hope that we will see that soon.
Have you applied any of the official HTC patches to date?
Scott
No not applied any of the patches as I have not experienced any of the problems that the patches are meant to solve.
I am using ROM version 1-48. I am a very strong believer in the maxim that if it ain't broke don't f****** fix it!
WB
Hi,
I think with any new device there will always be teething problems and from what I've read here; the HD2 is no exception.
This is my third HTC device and each one of them have had their own little idiosyncrasies. However most of these were not apparent to me until they were pointed out :/
The main reason why I have chosen to get another HTC is because of this site and others like it. As soon as a fault is found, there's usuallly a fix around the corner.
So, with regards to your question about the ROM 1.48, I wouldn't worry, as as soon as the HSPL (?) is released, you'll be able to flash whatever ROM the chef's cook up Also I think with SSPL you can install custom ROMs now.
This will be my first HTC device - I am looking forward to having a touch screen phone that is not an iphone. The HD2 looks to be the business.
I reckon I will be okay if I encounter any problems I know where my first port of call will be...I have already learned so much just trowling the forum.
What is HSPL?
I agree with wacky's thoughts about if is not broken
Thanks for your input.
Scott
re hspl, have a look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589642
hspl in a nutshell is a hack to allow you to install custom roms. they're almost got it ready for release. discussions about the hspl and speculation about its release can be quite entertaining.
Damn , I checking everyday, looking for official ROM update for my HD2 ( Poland )
This time ( this HTC phone ) I wont to try "normal" way to rom flash, without different 'home made' ROM'S
What a freaking policy the have ?
Fake announcement's , almost official rumours, giving rom update only for some country's - damn !
After my third HTC phone I sad Enough !
There's always something - sms issue or other issue, lack of something, no drivers, no compatibility ! damn !!! It's like fighting with the wind.
But...I'm still here with my new HD2 - I'm giving last chance to HTC, they have my ultimatum 78 hours to release official ROM update for Poland !
If not......well , I know where thay have office, and where's a nearest gas station
I think that almost everything is because current market - new mobile every week, new OS every 3 weeks, new..new...new, where's that time's when producers release only 1 phone in year, but relay improved ! and with 99% working and stable functions !
HSPL is your friend

I also said "This time I'll only use stock ROMs". I lasted 1 week before flashing a custom one again
Exactly ! I use it 1.5 week, and I will give HTC time till Friday 11:00 , then I will flash some unofficial ROM.
( and I will send email with picture of my butt to chief of HTC )

bwahahahahaha : -)
They don't read this forum so I doubt this 'threat' will even register with them - just flash a custom ROM and be done with it. They're better than stock anyway!
They have spy's here.... to read about every issue and then they can say that "it will be fixed"....someday, when they release 11 new pda's before end of the next month, of course with 6 different OS, on 3 different ROM's
They do read it. They said at MWC that they listen to forums and stuff to get feedback.
I feel your pain man, Eastern Europe seems to be ignored in regards to 1.66 update. I don't care about it that much, because its working fine, but i want an official rom with opera 10 full version and with pinch to zoom.

It has been almost one month without any support developement for any HTC device (last was Released 2010-01-28 for HTC Magic) so it is not HTC HD2 specific
And the reason is probably mobility trade fair season, so I guess they were working on new product to have something to show and here comes your "11 new pda's ..." complain
So basicaly you are right
Well, that's why we have this site and cooked ROMs... I definitely wouldn't have had all the HTC devices I've had (seen signature pic) if it wasn't there.
HTC do follow, with mixed feelings obviously as people here are for sure abusing their phones, but at the same time they buy them, thousands of them...
Their devices are great, and it's not really their fault if WM is flawed as it is. They've already done quite a bit to try and improve it, then well there's so much you can do... at the same time until now nothing had WM's versatility, diversity of apps while staying open, which is why we stick with it even with the drawbacks... even if android is now slowly overtaking.
HTC Give us HD2 1.66 rom update for Poland !!
Hey !!! Guys from HTC !!! I know that You reading this !
!!!! 21 hours left !!!!
I already had take picture of my hairy butt ! It's ready to send.
On last two hours I will be ready , with my finger on the mouse pointed to "send" button.
You do know that all ROM updates for the region will come via SunnySoft -
http://wwww.sunnysoft.com/htc/
?
I would hazard a guess that if it has not been released yet, that they are still working on the localisation?
I know about localisation form Sunnysoft, but it's not about language - I want official 1.66 rom for east Europe , I want them (HTC) to go to work and threat their clients like they should to. I want patch's for all leak's in HD2 rom, and I want suitcase filled with $$ and plane to country without extradition
so why don't you install HSPL and flash to ROM for your region?
But there is no difference between official and cooked ... why moan?
I have my HD2 from 2 week's from now, I know that sooner or later I will flash some cooked rom, I always do it with my previous HTC's, this time I though about giving HTC a chance to be "on time" with ROM update.
They have been, just not for you
What ROM do you have at the moment? Is it a vendor locked one? If so, it's them you should be venting at NOT HTC...
EDIT: Just checked their site and there's not even a 1.66 ROM. Think you should contact them directly as you'll get a quicker response than on here...
479.1
I'm waitig for 479.1 rom too.
Leo is my first HTC device, so i want to flash official way for the first time, obviously Still got some patiance...
afropolak, good luck on your mission, make sure to write feedback what HTC CEO thinks about your hairy one
Ok, time's up ! Right now somebody in HTC headquarters look at picture of my hairy butt and try to understand why ? Why somebody send it.
I flash Laurentis ROM yesterday, I must to say nice , but - few application that works well before, now crash every times ( mTollbox 0.3.0 ) but it's a other thread case.
I will still try to catch official ROM , because for my new bug-less rom I cant install semi-official Polish localization from SunnySoft.
Like I sad On the first post - DAMN..!!! THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING WRONG WIT WM DEVICES AND OS.
Yes, I know, I'm moaning again...
Looking like NRG has dropped the ball on the TMOUS Version Rom, because i don`t see the thread anymore.
It is kind of good because his roms are getting too usual and bringing nothing new
Energy rom
I still like his rom though
I asked the same question. His rom can be found in the standard HD2 thread, he does have TMOUS specific version still. Maybe he isn't going to continue with that ??
As long as it is still TMOUS compatible it may not NEED to be in this forum but I think it might be better since the separation keeps things clearer (less chance of costly mistakes). However, while I enjoyed his ROMs on the Touch Pro2 I found that the focus seems to be entirely on modifying HTC Sense. The ROMs have become a bit more bug ridden as well. On the HD2 I couldn't even use the dialer as it disappeared constantly. It might be just as well that the ROM isn't listed :/
NRGZ is the man! Im on the latest NRGZ release and its been working almost perfectly for me so far.
He said recently that there will no longer be a TombileUS specific ROM anymore since the ONLY difference between it and his other HD2 ROMs are the tmobile apps, which can easily be installed via .cabs.
He's no longer making TMoUS-specific ROMs, but you can just install his standard HD2 ROMs and get whatever TMoUS CABs you need from here:

Question answered! Closing thread
Hi there
I know there are a lot of great roms available now thanks to all the developers here.
I am still using the upgraded UK_orange 6.5 relased on tosh website..
I can hear the callers but they can not hear me properly on the other side, my voice breaking and crackling.
The only thing that would make me port one of these custom roms available here is if the sound quality is fixed.
Which one are you using now with no sound problems at all?
Thanks
Are you using the newer 6.5 update which came out on March rather than the earlier 6.5 update which came out in October? I found my sound problems were mostly fixed by the March update, although I did find I had to do a hard reset after the upgrade before I really noticed the improvement.
The reason I ask is that for some strange reason Toshiba never updated their website when their second update came out and it misinforms people saying they should not update if they already have WM 6.5. Some people heard about the update, went to the website and naturally assumed they already had the latest update because of what it said, and are needlessly living with terrible call quality as a result.
I'm guessing you probably have already checked but I thought I'd mention it.
I've recently tried ffboy's sense beta2 sense Rom with the radio version 5005.1600.05 and I had bad call quality with that, but others say that radio has been perfect for them. If you look further down you'll see that this has already been discussed and the conclusion was that there is no easy answer to this question at the moment. The only way is to try each Rom for yourself. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully though.
thanks.
I have the latest official MARCH version but it did not solve the problem.
I also have been following all the feedback by all the tester on all devs "Nosker,November5,Aragon85 and ffboy2009" roms but I could get a clear picture of which one is with the issue fixed..
hence I am looking forward to Android on this device and let see how it goes..
Any rom with 5005.1700.05 or 5005.1600.05 radio has no sound quality issues.
Hello,
right Joous, seems to be some phones out you can install what ever you want, quality is pur. In modaco or ppc found some threads say telling its hardware7 lot dependend.
@ computerbar, you should test a custome rom, normally they are without issues. if you still have give your mobil back or change it during warranty.
regards

Are you sure? It wasn't true for me. I had a bad experience with 5005.1600.05 (as I already said). Some others said its perfect for them, but others have said it gave them poor call quality. I don't know if it depends on the country, but it might. I'm in the UK in a 2g area.
I haven't tried 5005.1700.05 yet, but I'm trying it tomorrow.
Let me give you some background information. 2 years ago I was taken in by the beauty of the Sony Ericsson Xperia x1i.
Now while this phone looked amazing the interface was really bad and I was forever getting frustated.
Then I discovered this site and Then it happened! I became a flashing addict!.
I loved Itjes Touch it series with manilla and windows mobile 6.5/.5 builds which made the phone alot more usable.
So April came round and I was due an upgrade and I heard alot of buzzing about the HTC HD2 and after watching lots of videos and reviews I knew this is what I needed.
Now the unit I got was an 02 branded unit and it worked excellent but I knew it would be a matter of time before my addiction takes over and before I knew it I was flashing a diffrent rom everyday.
But I have found there to be so many bugs and problems with the custom roms that last week I decided to return to the stock o2 rom and I have to say the phone now just works! no problems, no lag during streaming, no glitches.
So I think I am done with the flashing random roms thing now.
Anyone else returned to the stock roms after feeling disatisfyied by customer roms?
Never tried flashing yet, I am on stock 1.66.707.1 ROM
I too had Sony Ericsson Xperia x1i and like you decided to flash it. I really didn't like the custom UI so decided to revert back to the stock ROM. But - on account of me being a complete noob - I somehow managed to brick the phone!
So I claimed, and got the HD2.
So far I’ve not flashed any custom ROMs as I don't really want to run the risk of destroying my beloved HD2 and I’m actually happy with the stock ROM (1.72.206.3) and using CHT I just customise everything else - pretty much on a daily basis!
Very tempted to flash it with android when it's fully ready, but I guess only time will tell if that happens.
there arent problems...but i dont wanna brick my hd2 because of "i wanna have the newest thing" blablaaa
maybe i'll flash android, but as long as my stock 1.48 wm rom is working, im pretty happy...thanks to cookie
DN41
The energy rom on my phone runs 100% smoother with 10,000% less glitches and lockups than the stock Tmous one did
I know everyones opinions are diffrent which is fair enough. But for me I have found the stock roms to be the best and most reliable.
Not taking anything away from our chefs as I know they do an excellent job but Custom roms are not for everyone.
I think I just want a phone that just works and does not need to be constantly tweeked for it to do some of the simpletest tasks.
yea after years of flashing i no longer use custom roms, I do however use tweeks to get it how i want it, no rom is perfect for everyone. I just got fed up of all the different roms that promised loads and where no better than stock imho.
I've flashed so many times I don't set up my quicklinks anymore. I just have grey squares showing and in a couple days I'll reinstall a new set of grey squares aka flash a new rom. My G2 arrives on the 5th.

See this is how i was too at first.. the Tmous rom was more unstable than the worst rom on here.. i had to pull the battery on my wifes and my phone at LEAST daily the first week we had them.. Chasing that dragon and trying every new flash the second it comes out might not be the way to go as far as stability. but i DO know Tmous stock rom was garbage.
So maybe your O2 stock rom is just a more stable rom off the shelf than ours was.. in which case youll understand why it is hard to relate.

Thats a very fair statement, I have no experiance of what the TMOUS rom is like so am not able to speak of all types on stock roms.
But as far as the O2 rom goes its just boot screen and a wallpaper otherwise it is the generic 1.72 rom and mius the wifi router which I have installed anyway.
I agree with the above post where alot of chefs make promises for vast speed improvement etc where really its just the same as any other rom.
Ive read that the O2 roms are pretty bad.........
I was stock for a good 6 or 7 months until I flashed an energy rom, the only reason I flashed was to see what all the fuss was about........
The first t mobile rom that came with the phone (1.66 i think) was stable however there was no youtube client, installing any of the youtube clients available always led to me losing the ability to use media players and the htc video player, apart from that the rom was ok........
The next official t mobile rom (1.72) was absolutely fine, i never experienced a problem. Like I said, I got fed of reading about how great custom roms were and decided to see what all the fuss was about.....
I even got an arsey comment from someone on here about how I must be "the only person on here still using a stock rom" lol
I flashed the energy rom thats in my sig and have stuck with it to this day because it "just works" its faster than the stock, has no bloatware and nice extras like shake2save rotate screen etc... the downside is the battery life....
That said, If I had to go back to a stock rom i really wouldnt be that bothered... I guess I was lucky that the tmo uk one was a good one though...
See My Siggy
I have tried various roms including the stock rom that came with my phone....
The stock rom SUCKS.
Energy was good; Chucky was good for android but minimal (not complaining).
Current rom is better than stock and great for Android....
Stock Roms are buggy too, just after awhile; slow respone and lagging becomes "acceptable". I had a MotoRokr E8 for a year! I know what slow and unresponsive means......
The Chefs here often exceed the stock rom's abilities and functionality....
KUDOS TO THE CHEFS.
running the stock t-mobile us rom here on a 3 week old phone and absolutely no issues other than THIRD PARTY apps not exiting correctly but that was resolved with a restart of the deice and the apps have been good since
you can try Duttys ROMs if you haven' yet. The best for me. No Bloatware, close to stock, extremely fast and stable and as always, Android friendly.
I had a few problems with the original Tmo us rom but nothing bad enough to make me leave it. The upgraded version while still buggy is much better. Again, I have no desire to leave it though. When the next iteration of this phone hits perhaps I'll switch But without tethering WM7 is out of the question until it gets put in.
The stock and latest TMobile ROM for the HD2 runs very well.
I did not want to change it after doing all the registry tweaks and 3D Drivers, etc.
Then Android came and I had to make a move.
I tried several custom ROMs, and you are right, they all were not me.
Some had stuff I did not like, and in my opinion, were not better than stock.
Until I found the ENERGY ROM in my signature.
It still needs a few registry tweaks and LEOCPU, but once is set, it is the best ROM I ever had.
I think is perfect.
Very organized, clean, beautifull and fast.
It has the latest drivers from the HTC Oboe, the new WM6.5 Devise to be released now in October 2010 in China.
Lots of improvements over stock ROM. In communications, system upgrades, software, etc.
Including the most recent release of Sence for Windows Mobile, version 2018.
So yes, there are better than stock ROMS out there.
The last update for the HD2 was on May 2010.
NRGZ28 has incorporated updates in his latest Energy ROM, that are 4 to 5 months newer.
I've always liked stock roms. I ran the stock TMOUS TP2 WM 6.1 ROM forever, since I heard the 6.5 ROMs ate all the memory. I'm currently still running the 2.13 stock rom on my TMOUS HD2, but I'm considering the leaked pie rom.
Well, I am running 1.66 Stock ROM, CHT 1.61 and had no single freeze the last 6 months, my HD2 softresetted once a week after SPB Backup or after a flight.
I applied almost all reg tweaks posted in tips&tricks, use BsB and thats fine for me.
What prevented me from flashing custom ROMs was that I ALWAYS read carefully the comments of the users flashing it. And there is no single custom ROM where it reads ONLY: runs flawless.
So this is mostly not the fault of the cook though but the fact that we have to deal with so many languages and providers that prevent a cooked ROM from running flawlessly in any language and provider environment.
Of course the cooks program their ROMS in their native lang and with the preliminaries of their provider so this is why their ROMS simply cant work flawlessly on EVERY HD2 in this world.
Maybe this is why the upcoming WP7 is so restrictive in hard- and software to guarantee a smooth function in every country with every provider (in case it WILL run smooth )

+1 here for Dutty's ROMs. Fantastic, close to stock, yet running latest Sense etc. Have been great for me and no need to keep updating - I just update on major changes and I'm well happy with it.
I'm the opposite had my hd2 from vodafone with just about the worst ROM that could have been provided constantly crashing and generally rendered my phone unusable so fed up with waiting for vodafone to release an update i flashed a custom rom and ain't looked back i was using energy's rom but for the last week I've been using elegancia rom without HTC messaging and I'm amazed how good it is also using darkstone Android and no issues with either makes my phone awesome
