[Q] Is it possible to detect voice direction on android? - Android Software Development

Hi,
I am wondering whether it is possible to detect voice direction in android or not? For example on nexus one using the actual mic and the noise cancellation mic or using any other method?
Thanks.

Haven't you heard the news?
You can't make audio/video calls on Skype yet, no microphone is supported as of today.
You can only use it for IM.
apk is here

It has been said a lot about those mics in that thread, but the OP made 2 different opinions about using skype. The other users only used those mics with Voice Recording(Tape-a-talk app I think), nobody was able to make a call with skype.
Could you please share your experience with the 3 pins microphone? (I haven't got any of them so I can't try)

Crashes for me as well. I was hopeful given the threads about 3 pin mic support. I have extra headsets--if you dm I'll send you one.
I only tried voice calling the Echo / Sound Test Service, and it doesn't crash. However, it does just hang up after it rings.
I was able to launch the Skype apk attached to this thread successfully. It allowed me to make an outgoing call with the Fire and using the Edutige EIM-001 mic, but it disconnected the call a second or two after I picked up the call on my cell. I wasn't able to hear my voice when I called my cell since it disconnected so quickly. Unfortunately this is a mic only with a TRRS connector so the speakers are disconnected when it is plugged in. I am going to do some tests to see if I can rig the mic to work without causing Fire speaker disconnect. I still have to test with Google Voice.
I would be interested to know about it very much. So far I have no luck to make a call using mic
I been working on the mic problem all night. So far I think this tablet is missing something. Skype loads but wen making a call it does not see a mic at all.
Changing settings I have got the mic to work with a recorder for a test done a 20 min voice test no problems at all. But other apps like talking tom so on give error of no mic found.
Still working on this but not seeing what the problem could be.

I have a successful call using Google Voice but unfortunately only one direction
I mean I could make a call and the other party could receive this call. The problem is that I could hear what that party talk but I can't get his voice. It looks that it works only incoming direction ... but it looks to me that mic itself is ok.
Anyone has has better experience?

What are the changes that you made? Were you using a standard headset mic?
Sounds promising....
I did no changes. I used mic: Universal 3.5mm In-Ear Stereo Headset w/ On-off & Mic for , HTC myTouch 4G Unfortunately I don't have enough technical knowledge to resolve the issue although it sounds promising

[Q] Question about [FLEX ROM][4.2.2] AEONFLEX v3.0.1 D800/802/803

I was wondering if anyone of you guys running this rom are able to use your in-line mic earphones? The caller on the other end can't hear me when I use the in-line mic earphones.

Custom MP3 as a Voicemail Message Greeting?

Hi Guys,
I am using a Visual Voice-mail app on my S4 but I need to send a professional pre-recorded voice mail greeting, directly to the app.
The app will 'only' either record from the built in mic or from an external earplug / mic, neither of which are any use to me.
Does anyone have any idea how I could 'send' it directly to the app, for instance is there another app out there that would emulate the internal mic, i.e. trick the phone into thinking it was recording from the mic when it was actually being fed a voice file..??
Cheers for any ideas or help.

Tried this many years ago with my voice recording PIM... you'd need a male-male 3.5mm jack cable and another player. Just connect this player as external microphone, but be careful with volume to not burn the input...

presumably you'd need 4-pin jacks on both sides, and "player only" device. Otherwise, phone may recognize it exactly as it happened.

Using headset as microphone only

Hello,
So basically my phone's mic isn't working (HTC Sensation XE). The problem is that the port pins on the motherboard are broken. No easy fix for that.
I would like to cut some headset and make it only a mic that I will fix to the back case cover. however, is there a way to make the phone use only the mic and not transfer the sound as well? So I can speak to the headset but hear from the phone as regular.
Thank you!
There is an easy and non-destructive way to test that. If you're interested pm me , i'll explain on skype or something.
Im interested in knowing this too
