not sure, but i don't think it will help with root since its the nand chip's security thats the issue, not the software or the OS. it should help a great deal though with roms, cyanogen should love this. But i think things will be the same until our chinese friends crack that chip or who ever else manages it.

I thought they already did this a while ago.

They released the Bluetooth protocol stuff. We've had kernal source for a while

Is there a possibility if winpho7 being ported?

Just a question. I would love to have the zunes functionality on my phone, but I am not switching to outdated hardware( hd7) .now that we have root, would this be out of the question?

Yes its possible due to the hardware between the devices being similar. But i doubt you will find many people wanting to lead that project when Android is so much more awesome!
Also im pretty sure the hardware in the hd7 is identical to the desire hd which is actually a little higher spec'ed than our phone ^_^

Anyone think gingerbread can be ported from nexus S

Anyone know if hardware its gonna be the same etc

put it this way... the G1 runs 2.2, we walk on the moon, we give millions of dollars to Justin Bieber, Obama got elected (had to)
Anything is possible.
Leaked specs show it to be just another Galaxy S phone but with Gingrbread. Also, since it has support for T-Mobile's AWS bands, the modem should probably work, too. It's basically the Vibrant but with a front-facing camera (which we can mod in anyways). I'll be shocked if there isn't a port within days of the Nexus S being released. And hell, Samsung and T-Mo should make the damn firmware downloadable to us! (OK, that last part will never happen...well, not officially

I mean, this is the exact same phone we have but with the front-facing camera installed.
So can we get the rear camera to work with no banding with some firmware from this being ported over? I think that's the best thing of porting over some stuff from this phone.

Not directly @donut, but...
The point of it being a NEXUS is that it is the most open phone. The nexus is the android development phone. It is pure android with all support coming straight from google! Everyone should hope this is not just a rumour. This would hopefully get us 2.3 & more on the fast track.
Of course there are specifics that may not translate but here's to hoping : cheers:!

Well said. The phone is real. All we need is to confirm the hardware is exactly the same (except the camera part). If the hardware is the same, that makes things easier. As the ROM chefs/devs here have shown, porting is doable among Galaxy S phones with the hardware being so similar.
I honestly think we will get gingerbread before froyo

Hopefully this will completely free us from samsung's awful rfs as well.
Its a rumor, but I heard that it was being delayed to put in a dual core hummingbird.

I usually don't participate in the "When is ______ coming to the Vibrant?" chaos, but I thought that was really funny.
Nice job.

Gingerbread released for Nexus One

Hey guys! Don't know how many of you were watching, but the nexus one got its gingerbread update! Why does this matter? Well, the nexus one would have to be the first phone to receive the update and now that it has the floodgates are open! This is particularly good news for us g2 oowners, as we are running stock android and are one of the next in line for the update. Wooo!
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
We already have a very stable version running on our phones so realistically its not that great news, its good but nothing to be shouting about haha sooorrry.
Indeed, but for those without stock this is good news and those with it can expect performance increases in custom ROMs when it comes out from the drivers it will provide. Kinda win win.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I really wish it was that simple but its not the case. Just because it "looks" like stock doesn't mean that there's tons of different from AOSP. Plus, the nexii phones don't need their updates to be carrier approved unlike the G2. IMO we won't get official gingerbread until mid-summer. Totally sucks but realistically it's what we'll have to put up with. I'd love an updated .35/.37 kernel from HTC though. CM7 is so amazing though that I wouldn't even worry about it.

But dude, we're a small group of super nerds. Even the guys struggling to root their phones and understand the concept of flashing ROMs are still far nerdier than most people.
Ahhh.. but the nerd life is a good life. So fricken' glad the Android platform has such a great community of super nerds.

Lol... true but we can't assume that everyone can root their device and know how to root their phone. So it will be good news for those who want the gingerbread update for the g2 but as for me I don't really care since I can use cyan7 running gingerbread already...

Apparently samsung has "confirmed" Gingerbread for the galaxy s phones in march. (Check the galaxy s I9000 forums) By that logic, we should be getting it before then, unless tmobile botches their "pure android" marketing component for the G2.

[Q] GB app compatibility with ICS (supermono)

i have been using an app called super mono since at least 2.1 on all my devices. this app redirects all phone sounds to any bluetooth headset. i know a lot of things are changing in ICS and i was wondering if this app is gonna work on 4.0. it has worked on every CM and Sense rom i have used except for the miui 4.0 hybrid. as i understand it, it is a tweak not officially supported by google but all in all, its BY FAR my favorite app. if 4.0 wont support it ill have to wait til the developer updates or stay on 2.3.7

Active G2 Development?

How long do you think it will be until there are ROMs for the LG G2 on Verizon and the other carriers?
It is a little disheartening that there is hardly anything going on with this phone. One would think that the fastest smartphone in the world would get more attention than this.
Anyway, I am going to root tonight so that'll do for now. I'm really looking forward to AOSP and Cyanogenmod for the G2.
This is the best phone by far that I have ever owned! I've had all the latest and greatest since Android came out. LG really did a great job with the user interface too. I couldn't be happier!

Man, you gotta chill out. The phones been out a week. Were lucky to even have root! With locked bootloaders, its going to take some time before anything happens, IF anything happens with it at all. The proper people are working on the issue.
Breath.
Relax.
Drink a beer.
Given time, roms will come. Use and abuse your phone until that point.

If you really think the interface is great and couldn't be happier, why the rush on new roms? I'm rather content at the moment, myself, but that might change when LG starts lagging with their android updates.

I agree, I'm pretty cool with the phone for now. But if you're impatient like myself, go ahead and root and remove bloatware, and see how close you can come to stock through that. I was able to get 50+ hours of battery time on my LG G2 ending today through a bunch of tweaks, so that was exciting! :good:
Guys, please take this to the general or Q&A section, you are making me excited about someone releasing something and it is just this chatter, it looks like someone has posted when I come here and I see this conversation, OP, please a ask mod to move your lively thread, Thanks.

Are you able to remove the quick toggles in the status bar through "bloatware removal"? I know a lot of the status bar stuff is part of system, but was thinking maybe removing a few .apk's will get rid of some of it.

Exactly. If people would stop bashing other phones and actually read development on other devices, it'd be a better understanding of what's going on or has already been going on.

Right, like they have a workarounds for the s4 using bootstrap right? People have been flashing custom roms (just not on MF3, from what I know) So since this has root, will we be able to flash by the same method once it and a few roms are available? I mean the phones awesome now and I'm in no rush but it'd b nice to know

Yeah and before that we had Loki and the boot loader wasn't and still isn't unlocked. It'll probably be a similar exploit but idk. I just know it's possible from having an S4 and I had a G Pro too
