Battery failure on android - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have a problem with battery on my hd2, i have used an android darkstone V3.1. My mistake was that I let my battery to drain completely while the phone was on android as I mentioned. I`ve turned on the phone, the phone went to native windows and I tried to charge it, but instead of charging I got a massage: battery failure!!!! ((( I pulled the battery off and return it and after that the phone starts charging like usual. After that I didn`t use an android, but, yesterday I let the battery to drain completely (this time on purpose) and I couldn`t turn on the phone or charge it!!!! (( The only solution was to pull the battery of and return it, and time and date was also messed up so I had to change it!
Any clue???
Thanks in advance.

Battery not charging to 100%

Been running Android for over a week now and this morning when pulling the phone of the charger I noticed it was only at 89%. This is from a full overnight charge.
Got to work and it had dropped to 85% (Watching videos) and plugged it into my laptop at work and it again only charged to 89%
Anyone else had the same issue. Will cut back to Windows to see if it goes further.

Hello dude!
Try removing the battery, wait a few minutes and put it again. See what happen.
Sometimes it is a error when the driver is "reading" the battery settings/status.
Hope it help!!
Same with me, only 90% with all night chage
Same here mine will only charge to 93% while charging overnight
Rebooting into womo and it then proceeded to charge to 100%.
Not a major but a bug that needs investigating.
also had this issue a user responded to me on the builds thread, he said to let it run down to 5% and plug the charger back in. also the one about booting to wm then back on android should fix it.
Same here at 94%. Seems to be a common problem...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
im getting 96%.

Yes, I've got a same problem.
I've heard that no Charging-Stop exists (in kernel), so you may "destroy" your battery because it is overcharging ... so be careful
mine stops at 93%
yeah im a bit scared for my battery...ive been charging it almost twice a day now cause it dies so fast
i even have SetCPU with the profiles from the other thread, but its still draining REALLY fast...
i hope this doesnt have any permanent damage to the battery :S

where did you hear that? can you confirm?
The no stop sounds like complete nonsense. For one, it would be an obvious massive problem so the devs would have worked on it. Two, if you can detect battery charge it would be really easy to make it stop. Three, if it didn't stop, why did it used to halt at 98% for most people?

also battery working in read only mode, it's why during long android usage u can get wrong results. Will be fixed in future.
Hard reset..is only one solution
Actually _everyone_ can get this problem - after reboot u won't able to launch any external exe (exe from rom will work).
It happen because something sometimes can be corrupted during WM shutdown...
I got this problem two times Both time need to hard reset device.
So I recommend to everyone make backups!
So is it confirmed that robot voice (apt voice ) issue fixed now?
^^
confirm problem
read this before post
I have the same problem. HTC wildfire.
Try recalibrating the battery:
1. Turn off all uncessesary apps in the background.
2. Let the battery of the phone run out until it turns its self off.
3. Take out the battery for 2 minutes
4. Put the battery back in and charge the battery until it is fully charged "At least 4 hours"
5. Once it has charged take the battery out for 2 minutes then put it back in and boot the phone up
I managed
The phone was on and charging all night and it was at 97%. I turned off the phone and left it plugged for couple of hours, on and its 100%. Simples

[Q] battery immediately drops down after.....

i've read about similar topics, but i think i did not found answers...
i've been aware that x2's battery drains fast. i had lots of bad experience with this problem so i decided to buy a new spare battery. to describe my problem, here is the scenario.
1. i fully charge my new battery
2. i remove my new battery to charge my old battery
3. after my old battery is full, i remove it to use my new battery (which was fully charged 4 hours ago)
4. after turning on the phone, it reports (immediately) BATTERY IS LOW.
5. i scratch my head why, replace it with the old battery instead, turn it on, and reports LOW BATTERY also.
i think this is a phone problem and not a battery problem. what do you think? why do i also encounter same problem with my brand new battery?
please help. thank you...
this is a new problem i encountered after reformatting my phone...
did u try flash to another firmware?
I had similiar problem as u when was using firmware Genenic_sg, flashed to Generic_en then its gone
by trial and error...
by trial and error, i found the solution... (once my main battery runs out of life, i do this steps...)
i let my spare battery stay on the phone for about 10 seconds before turning it on... (something like at least, the phone will recognize the life of the newly inserted battery)...
there are occasional times however, when the battery meter will still say low battery life even if i already had the battery stay before turning it on... so what i do is just turn it off again, remove the battery for few seconds, reinsert it immediatelt, and turn my phone again... and voila! it's finally recognized as 100%.

[Q] [Help] My battery is draining too fast, some soft problem ?

I bought this Hero off eBay, and it was dodgy since the begining.
The phone had cyanogen, and was restarting itself occasionally.
So i wiped it, installed 2.1 and it got fixed, but now i have a problem with battery drainage.
Its insance, 10minutes-10% im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. with or without wifi/3d turned on, its just riddiculous.
I borrowed battery from a friend, and that didint make any change, i installed latest update from the autoupdate in the phone and still its bad. I read somewhere here that its faulty email app that keeps on trying to sync and drains battery, how do i fix that ?
I did a full wipe, cleared cache and everything back to factory settings, with no apps installed it goes from 100% to 0% in an hour.
I downloaded 2.1 from some android forum, as i was unable to find one here (there are only links to 1.5 on the xda.wiki WHY?)
If you can point me to a proper 2.1 (or higher?) software to download that doesnt do this crazy **** i'll be happy as infant on crack.
Please help, here is my software information:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24
Build number: 3.32.405.2 CL191507release-keys
Software number: 3.32.405
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
Try calibrating your battery it gave me a huge boost on my hero... went from getting 16hours day.. to about 30hours on a single charge!!
Every time you flash a new ROM you need to calibrate your battery. The battery meter in the OS (Android in this case) is generated based on the battery stats file.
Battery stats is erased when you flash a new ROM.
Easiest method of battery calibration when you're intending on flashing a ROM:
Ensure battery is fully charged according to the OS. Switch phone off, unplug charger and plug back in. Once light is green, leave charging for another 30 minutes (light goes green at approx 95% charge).
Switch on, flash ROM. Allow first boot to complete.
Shut phone off. Disconnect charger. Remove battery. Replace battery. Place on charge, light green, leave charging another 30 minutes, yadda yadda. Switch phone on, boot immediately to recovery. Wipe battery stats.
Boot phone up. Now would be a good time to install JuicePlotter. Use as normal. Do not charge, let the battery run down completely. When the phone shuts itself off, power it back on. Repeat process until it won't switch on anymore.
Remove the battery. Put the battery back. Turn the phone on. Repeat until it won't turn on anymore.
Now charge the battery on the mains to 100% while the phone is off, keep charging for 30 minutes after light goes green. Power on. Voila, fully calibrated battery.
The last part, run until completely dead and charge only needs to be done once in a while (this is calibrating the battery innards, not the battery stats)

hah, yea thats what i accidentally figured. phone was switching off, but when i powered it back on it had 30%.. and it was like that 3 or 4 times.
I ran it down completely and now am charging it till max, we'll see what happens. at worst i'lkl start your process from the beginning thx !
I diidnt know you had to do that. i've been playing with my G1 and not even once i had to calibrate that.. maybe i should
How'd it go? Any improvement on battery life?
it diidnt help I did what you quoted step by step and its still running down the battery like crazy :/ what else can i do ? im thinking of switching to 1.5 but thats just not progressive and my friends phone is running fine on 2.1, with the same battery even.
Edit: i've installed task killer and killed all the mail checking apps.. hope that is the problem
Edit2: it didint help at all, in 5 minutes i lost 15% fcuking hell !
I just switched to 1.5 and its still happening ! I using a different battery and its just as bad... why is this happening to me
ill try second to latest radio from xda wiki.. im running out of ideas, what else can i do ?
That really wierd... its not the battery if you have tried using different ones. Its not the ROM if u have changed it.
Have you tried disabling auto-updates? and auto-checks for emails. Which email client do you have? you should find the option to "sync-never" in the app settings.
Buying it from ebay is kinda ominous though.. was it described as faulty? perhaps you could contact the seller and request a refund is all else fails?
you can try using setcpu to underclock the cpu.
i have similar situation as you. before going to bed around 11pm, it showed 50% left, turned on airplane mode, then in the morning around 6am, phone was powered off.
now it has been 2 days, still have 20% left.

Did you ever take into consideration that some part of the hardware might be damaged?
Devices that got water damaged, sometimes show weird symptoms as well:
- They still boot up and seem to work well from the first sight
- The battery drains very quickly
- Some of the peripherals are not working stable or not starting up anymore (e.g. wifi, bt, gps)
- Other crazy things might happen as well (e.g. random reboots, backlight flicker, etc.)
So you might have a look at the mainboard. Red stickers indicate water damage!
Regards,
scholbert
Yea but if it were damaged would it show 50% battery after restarting thinking it had reached 5% ? i dont have the tools or will to unscrew it.
i paid 100 pounds fo it, the normal price of a used hero, but the auction said "phone restarts for no reason" and they do not accept returns, so im propably screwed :I
I had an old blackberry 8300 curve, i had it in the bathroom while i was showering, got too moist, turned the detection pads red but phone seemed to work fine after i dried it out. But the battery went to crap progressively in the manner. I would charge to 100%, take it off the charger and maybe an hour it would say less than 10%, do a battery pull and it would go back up to maybe 80% and last maybr another hour and keep doing that till it would normally drain on top od the numerous reboots i would be doing until eventually it would just drain and die.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Can dead pixels cause this ? i have like three.. but then again why would it show 50% after restarting from 5%..
the thing is its not draining the battery, just registering it wrong
Any updates on this? Any resolution?

sorry mate i have tried everything unsuccessfully and returned the phone to the seller.. dont tell me you bought it ? (london)
No, but i have a samsung galaxy tab and experience similar symtoms. It does not bother me too much, the battery life is still great. Just the percentage is off and i need to restart from time to time.
I read similar complaint from droid x forum too.

Charge and battery life problems

Hey there i have a HTC Legend running cyanogenmod 7.0.2.The problem is that i can't charge my phone to 100% it usually charges to 65% and it drains very fast but i noticed that i stays on 3% for +- 8 hours with extensive use.I thought that my battery wasn't good anymore but yesterday i tried putting my battery in my friends htc legend and it showed 83% while it showed 13% on mine so i put the battery to charge on my friends phone till it charged to 100%(that means that the battery's still good)but when i reinserted the battery in my phone it showed 65% just like when i charge the battery in my phone.I thought that i could try calibrating my battery but the phone doesn't charge to 100%.I was running blay0's b0.8.4 rom before this cm7 rom and had the same issue.
Any suggestions how i can fix this.

turn off your phone, plug it all night long then restart in cwm recovery and do "wipe battery stats" ( or something like that in advanced)
restart and see
I have already tried that i have turned the phone off and left it to charge for two and a half days long without disconnecting the charger but the light still didn't turn green. This is really annoying cause the battery drains fast and when its less than 15% the orange light turns on which i don't like to see
I have the same problem with my Legend since I update from stock 2.1 to 2.2.Actualy because of this I root my Legend then i can calibrate it but nothink seams to help. After all night charging the led is still red and when i start it up it shows 75% and go down fast.(1 hour or so can bring it to 5% easily). After when i switch it off and take out battery for few second and put it back it come back to about 55%.actualy the same problem as you have.
I just live with it....i trayed every calibration method and app. and nothink helps.
On another forum one guy told me then it probably need to be recalibrated in factory because i dont have the right tools for it.
I dont think then HTC will do that for me specialy after i root it.
If you find solution please let as know.thanks

Then unroot it, install your carrier's firmware just the way it came with on the phone, and send it back. I would imagine it be hard for them to tell that you've rooted it.
Or just before you do so, check if the battery's still messing around before you send it back.
I have two battery's and the problem is the same with both of them.If is true then they can not understand i will give a tray...i think then this is the first think they will look it at just to tell me f**k you..hahaha
I' ve the same problem with stock legend 2.2. How can we do?help!
Inviato dal mio HTC Legend usando Tapatalk
So this is what i tried i drained my battery completely till i had 1% of charge then i put it to charge while the phone was still on and it has been on charge for two days and i see that the phone has charged to 76% usually it would charge to 65% so maybe if i leave it for a couple of days on charge i could get a full 100% charge. So that is my last hope unless you guys find something else.
I will post back if it works for me
BTW couldn't it be a kernel problem??
All I know then the problem started when I update from 2.1 to 2.2 stock rom.so my theory is then when you flash new rom the process take some time and energy from battery and when the process is finish the system take current battery state as full which is not true because of used energy from flashing process. So maybe providing DC power with the same voltage as fully charged battery when flashing new rom may fix it.I maybe wrong but in theory it may work.what you think?
I have 2.2 since release date, and the problem is present since one month, after about 6 months 'hotspot mode' for home internet.i think is a battery problem (charge and navigate at same time for 2 hours for day)but this thread show that is a common problem!
Inviato dal mio HTC Legend usando Tapatalk
i'm having the same kind of trouble for the past 2 months. no matter what i've tried nothing happenned. i'm running custom 2.2 , without rooting or so and charging level stops at 71-75%. drops down relatively quickly until 15% and easily can stay with 3% for over than 5 hours.... htc suggested to run a factory reset, but even this didn't help. if someone finds a solution it would be ...LEGEND...
The phone is actualy charging the battery correctly,i find that out with the multimeter.I measure the battery voltage after all night charge and even then in the phone it shows 75% and voltage 3.950 with multimether i find out then voltage of the battery is 4.220.So thats mean then phone is charging correctly just the indicator(software)doez not interpret it it right.Still is anoying to look at red led after 1-2hours of use.
I have S-ON so maybe even if the calibration app.say after i tray to calibrating then batterystats.bin is deleted it maybe not true becouse of S-ON.
Do you guys with this problem have S-OFF or S-ON?
Maybe is not related to S-OFF or S-ON but who knows...
Maybe if we charge the battery till its full and testing it like pirate81 said with a multimeter and then flash a new rom maybe that could fix it has anyone tried this??
I start to think then XDA developers forum is useless...i post my problem hier to get help from people(xda developers)which I think then they actualy know somethink about android but It seams to me then XDAdevelpers actualy dont care..end i am sorry for that....dissapointed.I see then this forum works on basic.."help your self"...where are you XDAdevelopers...we come to your forum because we need help from you...
I know you doing it for free so i should be happy for what i get but i was waiting a little bit more of interest....sorry i am just dissapointed.
Anyone find a solution?
Would it help if we went back to android 2.1
I allready trayed that..save your time...no changes.
Can't we just use someone elses battery stats file someone who's battery does charge to 100%
I have same problem for 6 months already and yes, it started when I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 and it's only getting worse. It was 95% maximum, then 75% then 65% and now it's 45%.
Changing battery or firmware (custom or official), wiping stats, factory resets or calibrating batteries does not help.
Now it dawned on me that I still heve 2 weeks of warranty left and I think I'll try official service.
Please let as know when you will get it back...if they change just rom and calibrating or you will get new phone.I am interestig if it is software or hardware issue.thanks

[problem] battery weakness

Dear android developers
2 days ago i had a problem with a rom, so i had to take out the battery. When i placed the battery back in the problem was solved. Unfortuanetly something happend afterwards and now my battery is really weak its been 8 hours since i last charged the phone now it is %16 Ive tried changing roms. I even downloaded cm7 which was pretty good on battery drain, now its really weak hope you guys can help me.
Thanks in advance
try draining the battery till the phone shuts down
Turn off the phone, try to fully charge, to green LED lights up, then go to ClockworkMod recovery, advanced, and select wipe battery stats.
Maybe this help u
greets from poland
clean the contacts on the battery, blow out the compartment with canned air. sounds like a bad connection to the battery.
fyi the led turns green at 90% charge.
and i need more data than its weak.
screen shots of usage after 8hrs would rock.
If phone are turned off, orange change to green at 100% of battery.
If android are running, green LED turns on at 95% battery (for me, AndroidRev 2.3.5 sense 3.0)

You might have messed up your battery with the pull somehow, if not just let it charge for a long time and see where you are at from there.
Drain the battery in normal use until it shuts off, then go to bootloader and drain the battery until you can't access the bootloader, then do a full charge of the battery.
