If you want a really good keyboard get better keyboard then gotk the market and search ultra keyboard, you will see a hero theme, click that install it then goto better keyboard settings and choose the theme. It is really responsive accurate and it wont take up the whole screen while typing in any text field. It is also very spacious and not small at all

Hi SWYPE is still in beta and by invertation only so u will not find it in the market

In my opnion swype is no brtter then any other keyboard.
Its predicitive text engine is the no better than the builtin android
I'm using that xda-ported HTC keyboard to great effect. Have to change your lcd density to at least 170 or it will fc, but I am loving how good the predictive text is.

Does it come with its own predicitive engine ?
Afaik Swype is NOT beta anymore. The reason why you couldn´t find it in the market could be that some OEMs may have paid to have it exclusive on their mobiles.
AAAAAAAND: Rumors (streaksmart.com) are saying that Dell will be one of them with their official 2.2 release for the Streak

When did it come out of Beta according to their website its still beta
swype is still in beta. its on many devices by now but that doesnt mean anything. most of them are outdated since its not for sale on the market yet. you can find an apk by less than legal means. version 2.4.44.10912.t100 is the latest if your looking. id link some here but its against xda rules.
Sorry Guys, my fault. I thought the sentence "Beta is closed" together with the fact that different mobiles and tablets are coming with swype as stock keyboard would make it final. Seems not.
Nevertheless let´s keep fingers crossed for swype to make it in the Streak Froyo release of Dell.

Yes! I want to go back to the old swype, but that ones going to expire in a few weeks. Also with the new one, even though I have 'Vibrate on Keypress' checked, it never vibrates... weird
Could it just be that it's ' learning' how you type again?
I know the first swype was dreadfully inaccurate at the start but the more I used it, the better it got.

It looks like that to me. It forgot my username to gmail :-(. I wish it remembers words it learned between each versions. Hopefully, it will remember when final version is out. Since we are made to uninstall before new install, it must be clearing out those learned words.

Ohh... That's what you meant, the software keyboard. I have no idea, that or swype are good ones.
Seeing how the xperia play is basically the x10 with physical controls and the x10 has cm7 then it can't be too long till you can rock aosp to include stock android keyboard.
I'd just sit tight for a while
yeah, the keyboard sucks balls...coming from someone who has always had a hardware keyboard it is quite an inconvenience, so much so that it deters me from text input wherever possible.
Just get swype. It works so well with the phone.
The HTC_ime keyboard is what I'm using right now. I was using swype on my last phone but this this app is something that I could probably get used to.

Heyy guys ! They just released swype 3.0 ! It is so much better than swype was ! It actually works as a qwerty stock keyboard ! and it rocks! I recommend it to everyone.

Yep, just installed it, typing with multitouch is neat, but a little laggy. The actual swype-ing is smooth though.

And I've missed the tap to change words.
I started using swype recently and I like their keyboard more than the stock CM one so I'm happy as it is. Thanks for the info though.
Thanks for the heads up! Will go get this from the beta page
did they improve their default dictionary? last release was missing some essential words with apostrophes like "you're" for example. Really annoying.
edit: answered my own question after updating. all the words with apostrophes are now included. LOVING this new version of swype.
The new version rocks!

I really like the functionality of swype, I just wish the keyboard wasn't so damn ugly..
does the new version have a mic?
Yes it does. The last version had a mic. Well on mine it did.
Hmm.... Just decided to go with the latest version other than a slightly hacked version I'd been using for a while. This version doesn't swype at all. I can type normally, but swyping doesn't do anything.
Any ideas?
Nevermind, says invalid license, even though I just installed it through the official installer... Just didn't complete the install properly I guess.

I was reading somewhere that they were cool with metamorph skins to change the look of it...but I was having trouble finding a walkthrough for how to install said skins...haven't gone back to look again yet.
Yeah, there's actually a warm-themed swype to use with warm z that looks fantastic but I don't like having to use metamorph and I'm not sure if it would work on other roms..
This app ...so called spb shell 3d version 5.0 ....is freakin awsum...see the demo video by searching on google this threads title.....I don't have it...does anyone know its release date??

Looks great. But running that in background of a actual useful app.say a game even browsing the net is the question. Looks CPU graphic intense.
It does look pretty cool, but I agree with Erica. I'd be afraid that it would be too much of a resource hog and bog down my tablet. Be nice to show off to the friends so they can witness the awesomeness of my Acer, but I probably wouldn't want it for everyday use.
I don't think it would consume enough resources and lag the device.....as far as spb goes...even at the release of the current version of spb..(which iss now available in the market)..it was thought to slow down any device...but it didn't....

I don't know... something about it is, kinda.. off... I can't put my finger on it. I mean it certainly has the eye-candy... but is it forsaking eye-candy for functionality? *shrug*
We have to look past the silky smooth actions here - everything looks great when you hand keyframe the animations just nice and perfect. It's still in concept so I have to reserve judgment until there is something more along the lines of an alpha/beta. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
I hope it they release the app soon.....they launched the concept video in early march.....the launcher was for honeycomb....they better launch before android 4.0.....
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
I have this for the Evo, look for it market: SPB Launcher 3D. It is great. Add more screens, and the integration with all the Widgets make it a smooth transition from any other launcher.
As for CPU usage. I found that it ran better then my HTC: S with animated wallpaper.
I am really waiting on this to be released for the tablet. As my a500 could really use more screens and the customization features of this launcher.
i am using the SPB shell on my galaxy s i9000 slighlty overclocked 1.1Ghz. it works very well, does not slow down anything.
it is really great to use.
Spb launcher for tabs is out......

Ya. Clearly.
I bought it for my Charge, didn't work well. Market wouldn't show it for the A500, so I downloaded a bootleg apk just to see if it worked. Basically said this is an incompatible device and closes. I still want to see what it can do on the tab, since it's far more powerful than my phone.

better keyboard. i try them all, but keep going back to better keyboard. swype keyboard has improved much as well
Swiftkey X. No question. Especially if you regularly use more than one language.
Honestly, I tried switching from Swype, it was annoying me alot with the popup suggestions etc.
I tried possibly EVERY keyboard - i won't lie. I pirated a few just to try and ended up not liking them, this is how i test if a app is good enough for me to use and then actually buy. I'm not spending 5$ on a app and then not ever use it ever again... - anyways, I've tried almost every keyboard.
Then Swype got a update, smoother look, and the suggestion in the bottom.
I'm back with swype.
Fast typing? Swype. FOR SURE.
but then again it depends, do you feel comfortable swyping? or do you like to just click the letters and actually type?
Answer that question, and people may point you into a more accurate area.
Thanks everyone! I guess I will try these keyboards out!
