Swype and Swiftkey X.
I like TouchPal keyboard. It works a lot like swype. Its free right now but will eventually cost something according to the developer.

better keyboard. i try them all, but keep going back to better keyboard. swype keyboard has improved much as well
Swiftkey X. No question. Especially if you regularly use more than one language.
Honestly, I tried switching from Swype, it was annoying me alot with the popup suggestions etc.
I tried possibly EVERY keyboard - i won't lie. I pirated a few just to try and ended up not liking them, this is how i test if a app is good enough for me to use and then actually buy. I'm not spending 5$ on a app and then not ever use it ever again... - anyways, I've tried almost every keyboard.
Then Swype got a update, smoother look, and the suggestion in the bottom.
I'm back with swype.
Fast typing? Swype. FOR SURE.
but then again it depends, do you feel comfortable swyping? or do you like to just click the letters and actually type?
Answer that question, and people may point you into a more accurate area.
Thanks everyone! I guess I will try these keyboards out!

True. Only if the phone ships with Swype can anyone include it in a ROM or post the .apk. Otherwise have to sign up for the Swype beta. I think they give XDA a hard time and make legal threats and such whenever anyone posts an unauthorized copy.

lol.. What he's getting at skzdlmt is you shouldn't be doing that, more because it's not right to not support the devs' work as opposed to it being 'illegal'.
On topic, I'd love to know how I can get Swype working. Whenever I try to open the installer it FCs.

All true. And to appeal to selfishness, it's also dangerous. You don't know what kind of ish you're downloading.
ON TOPIC: I had that problem on NFX's but I don't on MikShift or CM7. It's weird because I've seen others say they have it on MikShift but not NFX's.
^ Shift Faced
Yeah definitely odd, running MikShift and it's giving me the FCs. Hopefully something gets worked out, shame because they just released an update for it..
Been running Swype for almost a week now. I have been having problems with the swype function suddenly not working. The keyboard is still functional, I just can't swype my finger across the keyboard. This has happened 4 or 5 times now. Simply deselecting Swype and reinstalling via the Swype Installer fixes the issue.
Any others experiencing the same?
Happens on any reboot. It's documented on the swype website. Easier to switch to another keyboard then back, rather than uninstall and re install

Is there any way to get the recent apps in the notifications bar, kind of like the inspire has it. It would function like the home button but it would appear as you pull down the bar. Does anyone know how to do this?

You going to help him out or argue about posts?
Like I said, that's the only way I know of to being up recent apps. Maybe a theme has it?
Edit: looked into it further and I don't think its possible. Unless someone comes out with a rom that has that feature, long pressing the home button is the only way. I think the app executive assistant has something similar too.

Well, I know about the home burton method, but I like the notification idea so when you guys find something, can you tell me?

There has to be a port from the inspire, or someone can build it from scratch

OMG it's like "Who's on First?"
let's get a nice stable, fast, working ROM on the Aria from CM7 before looking for tweaks to mimic another handset.
If someone had the Inspire, they'd probably see the Aria and want something they don't have, too.

the mysense (yogentouch) rom has this feature.
Speaking of this, is there a way to disable this on ROMs that have it. I hate that about the Inspire. The task-bar/dropdown is polluted enough as it is.
I think widgetsoid has that ability, I'll check and update my post if it does.
Edit: With Widgetsoid you can put your favorite apps in notification bar, but with Smart Bar you can put a button that will bring up a recent apps window. Only two solutions I can come up with. Hope they help.

Heyy guys ! They just released swype 3.0 ! It is so much better than swype was ! It actually works as a qwerty stock keyboard ! and it rocks! I recommend it to everyone.

Yep, just installed it, typing with multitouch is neat, but a little laggy. The actual swype-ing is smooth though.

And I've missed the tap to change words.
I started using swype recently and I like their keyboard more than the stock CM one so I'm happy as it is. Thanks for the info though.
Thanks for the heads up! Will go get this from the beta page
did they improve their default dictionary? last release was missing some essential words with apostrophes like "you're" for example. Really annoying.
edit: answered my own question after updating. all the words with apostrophes are now included. LOVING this new version of swype.

I really like the functionality of swype, I just wish the keyboard wasn't so damn ugly..
does the new version have a mic?
Yes it does. The last version had a mic. Well on mine it did.
Hmm.... Just decided to go with the latest version other than a slightly hacked version I'd been using for a while. This version doesn't swype at all. I can type normally, but swyping doesn't do anything.
Any ideas?
Nevermind, says invalid license, even though I just installed it through the official installer... Just didn't complete the install properly I guess.

I was reading somewhere that they were cool with metamorph skins to change the look of it...but I was having trouble finding a walkthrough for how to install said skins...haven't gone back to look again yet.
Yeah, there's actually a warm-themed swype to use with warm z that looks fantastic but I don't like having to use metamorph and I'm not sure if it would work on other roms..

Oh wow!! ATT breaks their trend of keyboardless phones. Think I might switch when I my contract is up as that was the major thing keeping me.
I know another friend will be happy to get rid of his keyboardless phone.
Hoping this confirms the Sprint model does NOT have a keyboard. It was unusable on the Epic, forcing me to learn to use the onscreen keyboard which I now find I can use much faster than a hardware keyboard, making the extra bulk pointless for me.

Same here... a smartphone without a real keyboard just isn't a smartphone in my book.
Best rated comment from the site: "If you're just texting or IMing your friends then a virtual keyboard is fine. But virtual keyboards still make too many mistakes with autocorrect if you're using any kind of business specific terminology, especially science and engineering. Plus, the slide out keyboard lets you still have the whole screen available and not only 50-60% that's left after the virtual keyboard takes up its space. That way I don't have to do nearly as much scrolling for long emails or editing word documents."

I would agree with that if the keyboard wasn't as dreadful as the one on the Epic. It skips half the characters I type. That makes it essentially useless for me. Yes, it's definitely still useful for typing in odd things that autocorrect fights you on, but if I half to type at a quarter of my usual speed to do so, I'm not sure it's saved me ANY time. I'd rather see onscreen keyboards simply have a switch to turn off autocorrect on the fly.
Trust me, I was the BIGGEST hardware keyboard fanatic for years. I would not consider any phone without, and I was genuinely angry when every cool, high-tech phone skipped them. I was understandably excessively happy when Sprint's variation of the then-fastest phone on the market had a keyboard. But the reality of said keyboard was so disappointing that I was forced to learn to use onscreen keyboards and I've been happier for it. When the keyboard fixes for Froyo were released on the developer boards last year I was shocked to find how much slower I was typing on the hardware keyboard than I had become accustomed to on the screen. So I've moved on, and don't want the extra bulk I'll never used.
Now if that bulk was instead used for a bigger BATTERY I certainly wouldn't complain...
