Samsung kies is a joke! - Galaxy S I9000 General

I'm very frustrated with this kies. It always stuck at connection. Updates always hang half way. Now my phone totally cannot connect to kies. Have tried all the methods that I can find in the web. So I'm giving kies up for good...

Odin finds one vibrant but not another?

ANy idea why this might be happening>?
Let me consult my tea leaves...
Nope. Sorry, I don't see anything there.
Could you provide a little more information?
Let's assume that both phones are in Download mode.
Let's also assume that you've restarted Odin each time a separate phone is plugged into the USB cable, instead of having the same Odin process try to talk to the 2 separate phones.
Let's assume it's the same USB cable, same port, same computer, and same drivers.
All you assumed is correct and I still cannot connect the other phone to odin. It won't recognise it. It does see mine right away though

Start simple, Windows sees both phones when you plug them into the USB cable?
I do one at a time

Near brick stories?

Is it really possible now to brick I mean I flashed a new rom and kernal over voodoo on accident and bootlooped and then tried going to stock through Odin. became impatient and disconnected it mod restore And still managed to get it back. Anybody got any strange funny near brick stories?

Only thing I've heard recently is where somebody flashed a Vibrant rom on a Fascinate, and somehow trashed the download mode functionality so that it wasn't accessible even with a USB jig. Other than that, I've heard that you can now recover the modem after flashing with the phone button in Odin, so as long as you stick with roms intended for the Verizon Fascinate, I'd say it's pretty much impossible to brick.

yea the only ways to truly brick now is to use the wrong button in odin. even then i bet adryn can do some magic and bring it back to life. The fascinate really is one the least brickable android phones out right now.
Which is why I love it so

Tried many times to brick with no luck. Odin can be your best friend.
Always helps

Dead Dead Dead
My phone stopped displaying anything after the little samsung animation. So I used Odin to update the phone with T959UVKA6_REV05_home_low_CL860813.tar.md5 as mentioned here. It downloaded fine according to Odin and then when it was supposed to reboot, it just stayed dead. Now cannot even turn it on.
Arrrgggh.
you in the right phone forum? Never heard of that ROM for the Fascinate
Thats a vibrant rom

Is that the issue
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I would imagine trying to flash a vibrant rom on a fascinate probably would cause issues
Perhaps. I flashed mine with an update for the i9000 and phone button in Odin. My phone still works only odd thing is my phone hangs up on dl09/di01 to ea28 ota at "updating modem". Can't get ed01 modem or official froyo.

Flashed a Captivate ROM on a Vibrant, almost bricked. Odin saved me.

ive bricked 2 fascinates
i have bricked 2 fascinates but after a lot of work i figured it was the usb ports on my laptop that where losing connection while Odin was running
odin would see the phone then i would flash the rom using pda and odin would fail then the phone would be stuck in down load mode before i knew it was the usb ports on my laptop i tried again and again to fix it and at some point i bricked the phone comply this happen with 2 different phones before i tried to use odin on my roommates pc and it ran fine mind you this was with my 4th fascinate in 6 months the 1st one the touch screen went out on but the 2nd to i bricked
so just to let everyone know if odin fails feel free to use a different pc altogether to fix it because it could be the usb ports
hope this helps others

it was especially when i went a whole weekend with out a phone because i was stuck in dl mode and all my friends couldn't help but say i told you you shouldn't hack your phone because this kind of stuff happens. always pisses me off when someone who has no idea what rooting a phone is like or why i do it talks as if they know better then to try it. enjoy you locked down "smart phone" i will enjoy my freedom. of course the friends that let me root their phones for them knew it was nothing i did wrong.
In my experience with flashing motherboards, xbox360s, etc. I would guess that it is impossible to brick your phone in CWM, but definitely possible using ODIN.
When you put the phone into download mode(plug into PC with no battery, hold volume down) and have the yellow "construction" android (no idea what it is supposed to be, but that's what it looks like to me) the phone will accept any package you push to it, and writes to protected areas of the phone, like the most base levels possible. I imagine if you wrote the wrong files to the phone using ODIN, or unplugged the phone during the process that it would likely brick.
Hey I accidently flashed the Mesmerize odin n didnt brick lol... It actually worked...so I guess that can be a story...unless everyone has already tried that lol

[Q] No service

Long story short, I found my old Epic with the old firmware, 2.1 (Eclair). I tried to update it to EC05 with Odin and in Recovery modes. In Odin, it fails when it start loading in "Setup Connection." so I was wondering if it was because the phone had no service. If that's the problem, is there another way to update it.
Shouldn't have anything to do with your service... check yur cable
cd's or tapes?
Cable's fine, updated the other phone before the old one and it worked fine.
Do you have the samsung drivers installed? Also try another usb port.

I had this issue yesterday. I was using stock cable (I hear bad things about it but i was too lazy to find another one).
Try different USB ports, leave and go back into recovery mode. It just feels like hit and miss with my Epic using stock cable.
"Old Epic"? Not even a year old!
Sent from my SPH-D700
Try pulling out the battery and putting it back in, then connect in download mode AFTER you opened odin.

Seriously, if you're still using the stock cable then spend the $5 on a good thick blackberry cable it will save you headache and frustration.

Wifi won't turn on after update to kitkat

So I updated my phone to kitkat today and after my wifi will not turn on. I'm getting a message saying that "my devise security has blocked a action that is not permitted. No further action is required" Not sure what to do. I tried a FDR twice and nothing. Pulled the battery. Any ideas. Please help. I don't wanna have to send it to Samsung. Rogers wants 50 bucks for a loner phone

Try the Virgin Canada ROM. This one allow the wifi turn on without problems. I had the same problem and the Virgin ROM worked perfectly.
