SD unmounts on usb connect - Droid Incredible General

This is a problem I just recently started having. Whenever I plug in a usb cable to my phone, the sd card unmounts itself, in that order. If I plug in the cable and THEN insert my sd card, no problem. I've formatted my card on my PC, and also on my phone, and the setting to charge when plugged in and not to set as a disk drive is set. It seems however that the phone is ignoring that setting and mounting as a disk drive. Anyone else having this issue?

same here...look forward to hearing a solution!
thanks XDA

On the ROM I am currently running I don't have that problem.
However, I have run into it where if you set the default to be Charge Only without prompting it will ignore that. If you set it to prompt you and you select charge only then it did not happen.
So, try changing it to prompt you to select and see if that helps.

Thanks for the tip. I tired it and it didn't work unfortunately. I set the default to Charge Only without prompt and then as default with prompt. Even went do disk drive both ways and then back to charge only to see if it was a setting that needed to be reapplied. Nothing has worked yet. :/

Do you have DoubleTwist or Winamp installed. If so there is a setting in those applications called. "Enable Auto-Mount" Deselect that and you should be set. It could be another application too. These ae the only two that I have heard of it with.

Genius! Winamp was the culprit. Thanks for the tip. Learn something new everyday.

Ugh! So obvious in hindsight, I started having this problem right after installing Winamp. Thanks

Change your USB Icon

I found a nifty little program that will change the icon your device displays when connected as USB Mass storage.
You just have to find a corresponding .ico file
Heres the program: SevenDriveIconChanger
http://www.mediafire.com/?mmkzmmt5tug
And attached is a Nexus One Windows icon and the 7changer app in a zip
You need an *.ico-file to use the IconChanger, I converted it and attached it in the ZIP-archive for maximum enjoyment.
Iconchanger? I just have an autorun.inf on the root of my SD card pointing to an icon.

Dammit, beat me to it!
Code:
[autorun]
icon=x.ico
Save as autorun.ini in /sdcard/ along with x.ico, job done.
The autorun.ini doesnt work for me.

You didn't save it as autorun.ini.txt did you?
Oh, and you have to have autorun enabled...
Edit: Also, try calling it "autorun.inf" (no quotes). Should do essentially the same thing.

Nail. Head.
It should be called autorun.inf, I made a typo
I haven't renamed it with .txt. I don't like using autorun for any kind of storage i insert into my PC so i set it to be off.
Maybe that's why it doesn't work. A Nexus One icon is not worth turning it back on.
Another option (Windows only) is USBDLM. With it you can configure icon, pre-assigned drive letter, drive/device label (as shown in explorer), and a raft load of other choices. It can run as a service and has x64 support, but requires direct editing of the .ini file (and manual installation if I remember correctly).
For example: On my desktop and notebook - Nexus One is always [N:], G1 is always [G:], backup drive is always [B:] (all with custom icons), regardless of which USB port I plug in to or what else is plugged in (those letters are never assigned to other devices).
It takes a bit of time investment up front, but is well worth it if you either need or want more configuration options for your external storage.

Wow, I haven't had a drive B in a long time. But not nearly as long as a drive A. I'd probably be a little freaked out if I set up a system like yours

It took some getting used to, but now that it's habit I actually get kinda freaked if I'm backing up to (or restoring from) something other than B:
DVD-RW=X:, Daemon-Tools=Y:, DVD-ROM=Z:
Always have to double take on other people's Windows boxes when looking for optical media. My system is definitely mine.

Problem copying files from PC into \SDcard

What's the proper way to copy a file that I had downloaded to my PC into the internal storage card?
I've chosen the mass storage mode, and connected the cable. WHen I go to the PC's explorer, under my computer, I see a removable disk E and F. But when I click on them trying to open it, it says "Please insert a disk into drive".
Anyone knows why I can open up the removable disk and drag my file into it?
Me:You silly and stupid fool. Don't you know that after connecting the cable, you need to pull down the notification bar, click on the usb connected message, then on there, choose to mount the USB?
Another me: Oh, I thought in the setting, I've already chosen the mounted option, so why mount again?
Me: Don't ask me. Just do it that way.
Another me: Okay. Sounds stupide to me, but as long as it works, I'm happy.
Me: And don't forget to go to the notification panel to turn it off after you finish using it.
Another: Okay okay. Don't need to scream at me.

I think this is maybe an indication that you don't havehave the proper drivers installed. I had a similar problem in the past and it cleared itself up, looking back it was probably cleared up after installing kies and the drivers as I no longer need to mount.
wow, we think alike ... meet me, myself, and my other self

[Q] Change what happens when SD card is inserted

I inserted an SD card into my laptop and Windows 8 asked me to choose what happens when I insert one. So I chose a program. However, the program is not working very well. How do I "unchoose" the program?
Hit Start, type Autoplay, select Settings (on the right). One of the options near the top should let you control what happens with removable media.
Removing the program would also almost certainly cause Windows to ask you again next time you tried.

USB Mounting as External Drive on Mac

So I've fine some searching and it seems nearly impossible to make these later androids Mount as a external hard drive like we used to.
Is there any easy to make it pure plug and play or do I need a third part apps to make it happen? If so--- I guess, what is the easiest way to make it happen (seems kind of lame imo).
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Well-- let me answer my own question through a weblink i just found on stock exchange. haha but, what's so good about MTP/Media Transfer Protocol?
Anyhow, this is what I got:
Go to Settings→About Phone/Tablet.
Go to “Build Number” at the end of the Scroll list.
Tap on “Build Number” repeatedly (7 times). On your third tap you should see message indicating that you only have 4 more taps to go to ‘become a developer’. Keep tapping until you are a developer. (a toast message will tell you so)
Now Developer Option will be included in setting list of yours now. Go to “Develop Options” to check USB debugging > OK. Done.
In combination with this, I had to download Android File Transfer--- But it's okay with the combined tabs of the internal and external SD card:
http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Yep, so thats the story.. At least now if other people come over with there android's, I can connect them to my computer no problem. Still though am interested to know about this MTP stuff.. [would be good for knowledge within this thread]
Cheers
Lol I thought you were joking about the developer thing but I tried it anyways.

This works if you have root. It only works on the micro SD card though. Airdroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid works over Wi-Fi for both storage places but it's slower than USB. Better than nothing I suppose. I don't store anything on the internal ram. I move everything over to the card.

Haha, nope
Glad to know in still helping out around here beyond myself in the process. Hah. It's good to be home.
Yes to you up top, the airdroid method works as well... But i prefer to be directly plugged in with USB.. It could be a helpful tool in the future though.. Thanks!
I guess there is no way around the software part though. The idea behind this thread and question is whether or not this droid can be plug and play wherever I go vs. Needing software to run it. Perhaps airdroid is where it's at.

Manage photos, music and other files in Nexus 6P?

After connection thiis phone with the usb cable it came with, looks like there is nothing I can do in the Nexus 6P folder (windows does recognize it), I can't see, create, or manage anything like I used to. Do I need to unlock or root this phone first?
Thanks.

If you pull down your notifications, you will see that it defaults to 'USB for Charging'. Just tap on that and change it to 'File transfers'

Thank you so much! I was looking for this option under Settings --> Storage & USB, where I think it used to be, but couldn't find it.
One more question, how come I don't see the photos I took with the phone in the Pictures folder?
Edited: NVM, just realized that it's another folder.
Sigh, so stupid of me.
