Sick of THIS! - HD2 General

This isn't my post but I have very same problem and thought i'd bring it to this thread see if anyone happens to have same issue or has solution?
Hi guys,
I've been trying out different android builds but after a while it won't boot in android anymore.
I run the CLRAD and HaReT, it show the command lines and then freezes on the HTC screen.
It is not the first time I'm launching it, everything is allways set up the way I like it and then I want to reboot a final time and it freezes. (first boot only takes 10 min.) Then I have to take out the battery to reset, but everytime after it freezes, tried waiting for +1 hour but no changes.
When I delete all the android files from my SD card and copy the original ones it restarts again and I have to setup everything again.
I tried new wm roms (Miri HD2 wm6.5.x) different radios (now 2.12.50.02.2),
the new HSPL3 but nothing seems to solve this.
edit: now I'm trying to use the mdeejay froyo HD v3.7 rom
I've searched the forum and other users seem to have the same problem, but no solutions have come forward. The people replying allways seem to think it is the first boot that takes 10 min. but it's not that. First boot works fine.

What builds have you tried? What memory card are you using (class and size)?Did you format your memory card to FAT32? You could also try deleting app data folder on your storage card, as each time you use a build a bit of it may be left in this folder( it does no harm and will re-create itself straight after). Have you tried any android boot loaders e.g MSKIP android loader v5. No-one else had replied so thought id try and share what little knowledge i have. If you have been asked all this 20 times over, Sorry!

I am using 8gb mem card came with htc Fat32 (formated it using win and htc both)
Win build is dutty's com2 3.14 latest rom
Mdeejay 2.3 Revolution android version.
had jmz's bootloder
Tried everything u said nothing happened...
Trying now MSKIP's boot loader, with fresh installation lets see...
Ur effort time and help is always appreciated thanks Funkdat

maybe because OS's weren't designed to run on a SD card??? Sell your hd2 and get a galaxy s phone.

I feel your pain. Very very frustrating and you feel you have tried everything. Time consuming too.
What bothers me a bit with those builds is that they load up the HTC logo so actually don't see what is happening during bootup. I wonder if you couldn't bypass that?

that wud have been big help if i could see what is actually happening but the Big HTC Logo screen is hiding everything and i am just sick of it.
Well if i could only burn the ROM into HD2 that would have been much better so wouldn't have to worry about anything i have to format my storage card every time or either delete everything on the sd card to make it work duno which file is it causing this error but i hope some one will come up with solution...
CHeers

still the same tried everything...

Hi there,
You do understand that the HD2 was not made nor meant to run Android and that all the Android ROM's are third party ones and unofficial ?
You did not say whether or not you tried to install on the internal memory and not the card ?
Bye,
Itamar

Oh the contradiction. You say that, yet you use it too
"Android Playground: HyperDroid 1.6"
You gonna sell your HD2? (now for the crickets )

This might seem stupid, but have you tried deleting the Android folder from your SD card? Or modify this line in startup.txt:
set cmdline "rel_path=Android"
to
set cmdline "rel_path=/"
The problem might be that because of rel_path, it's looking for your android ROM in the "Android" folder. And some applications create that folder (Google goggle for example) to save information. I had an issue quite similar to yours. Now editing startup.txt is the first thing I do in a build. I currently have 5 different builds, one for every day of the week! haha.
Hope this helps!

not at all. I actually rarely boot into android and when I do, I keep my android builds on a seperate sd card. But I'm also not on here starting threads complaining that android won't boot properly on my winmo phone.
That's why its my playground. I am not trying to make android my daily driver.

Well that's true. Android isn't really that stable enough to run often - especially when I see that it sucks down 500mA of power. That leads to 2 hours of battery.
(speaking of separate SD cards, I still have to send my faulty 16GB back to HTC )

Have you tried other non-sense build to see if they would work? What radio?
weird.. have you tried formating your card? and make sure u copy all the things that come with the download on there. which winMo rom u running? the radio i think it shouldnt matter. has to do with the sd card.. how much memory u have available?
Hated it anyway.. Always the wrong prefix before my numbers..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
so we're supposed to magically know what happened to ur phone without any information about it?
oKKKAAAYyy. abra cadabra poof! throw ur phone on the floor and it should be fixed.

actually the radio version does matter.. it has to be on at least 2.08 for android to run..
Hi Guys,
Kinda similar problem... Hopefully I can share more details.
Im using an Australian Telstra HD2 (T-mobile_leo) Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.Oct.08 with radio 2.12.50.02
The droid build Im using is Mdeejay FroYo Z v.1.1|1.31.405.1|kernel: hastarin R7.5
Formatted, booted, installed some stuff, rebooted again and all seemed well.
But I use phone as a storage device (and have done it before with no issues) then tnings seem to go to poo hell.
OS gets slow and on restart, the launch stalls on the HTC screen and will not progress any further.
Really enjoy the android builds and this is the 2nd build that has done this on my phone.
Any ideas on what I can do to recover?
For the ones having problems on getting stuck on HTC boot image with mdeejay roms, try downloading a data.img from here http://www.multiupload.com/GZ1JUZBYJI and copy it in the /sdcard/android/
( inside android folder ). It should take around 2 minutes to boot after that.
Also try to use a 2.10 or 2.12 radio.
copied the file into the android folder (which was supiciously empty) and pulled the battery 10 min later.
Have I got the right folder or do I need to replace the 1GB .img in the root?
Make sure that inside that folder you have every file found in the .zip folder downloaded from any of the builds threads. ( there should be 10-11 folders+files)
You can either replace it or try and find a 1gb data.img file from here http://www.multiupload.com/BJ2FXF9IRM ( just to make sure ), maybe you already have the right file, but I dont know that
I tested both sizes 512Mb and 1 Gb and both worked ok.
Thanks for the help Viperd.
I bit the bullet this time and reformatted (just because I needed a phone and gps ) but I have grabbed the image files and a quick script to check the files on the card the next time this happens

Android dont start

I have downloaded mdj adroid and installed on my root of storagecard. Updated my radio, installed hspl3. Tried other romes for htc. but it freeze with green htc logo. and i have installed 512 data.img to my hd2. Its a european hd2. i have waited hours to load reinstaled few times it gave the same result.
Do some1 know any solution?

Since there are literally thousands of post from peeps who have got it working without any major issues (me included ) i would suggested you are doing something wrong, however since its still essentially in beta there's bound to be issues for some.
best to start again & read carefully! its the best advice i can give.

you can download and install the android sdk on your computer, once its set up, then you can run a logcat to watch the background processes. if you see it looping, then it's locked up.
my first try i thought it had locked up on initial boot, so i pulled the batt. i rebooted and ran a logcat, saw it hang in the adio portion of setup.
i wiped the sdcard, formated it, and tryed again.
it takes about 5 min for it to setup the background services and kernel, then you'll be able to run logcat and watch it boot. i recomend waiting untill it calms down before even touching the phone even though it will prob be at the log in screen 5-10 min before it calms down.
once it calms down i personaly will log into my google account, wait for it to settle down, the restart it. after it reboots then ill start to play with it, set things up, load apps etc.

hello
just wanted to say i had kinda the same problem what i ended up doing is installing new rom from energy then extracted the files straight to the sd card hope this helps i had all kinds of problems rom fixed everything instantly
Try using a different kernel. I had the exact same issue as you and I found out that my phone doesn't work with any kernels that screw around with the CPU settings. I would suggest using Hastarin R8 or 7.7 Alt. If that doesn't work, try using the kernel from THIS build. Basically, try a bunch of them. One just might work.
Iam now using energy rom. iam trieying different android roms
I have tried the darkstone froyo 1.7 when it was booting its said can't mount the sd card. I have tried other sd card and it work. I can use android
Really should try reading before you go about tinkering
and for the record that builds not too great
"If you get unable to mount sdcard plz replace set cmdline "rel_path=Android" with set cmdline "rel_path=Android loop_partition=mmcblk0" in startup.txt"
that was originally posted in shubcraft and has since been posted in nearly every up-to-date build.

Stuck on HTC please help!!!

So I've tried to install android build. I had stock rom 3.14.479.2 and I've tried to install HD2Froyo_V3. I've followed the instruction and after running haret few lines of text showed and than nothing, htc display appeared and stayed that way until I've removed the battery. Then I've read that I have to flash a coked Rom in order to install build for android so I downgraded it to 1.48 so I can install HSPL (not sure that it was necessary). I've flashed Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.Nov.02 with Radio_2_12_50_02_2 and copied Android folder again, same result. After flashing between stock Rom and Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.Nov.02 million of times I'm out of options. The same problem I had with FroyoStone_Sense_V3.2 too. It seemed so easy when I saw it on youtube and I can not believe that I had so bad luck. What I've done wrong? What should I do?
Anyone help?
One word: wait!
the kernel usually creates a 1GB storage for android. This will need some minutes (can take up to 10 minutes on class 2)
Some words for ROMs. Nearly all ROMs will work (the 2.14 ROMs don't) as long as you have a new radio. use 2.10 or higher. some have robo voice problems when calling. if you experience robo try another Radio.
(you should post questions like that in android development discussion. this subforum is for development only)
The folder-name of your rom, what is it and did you change it? You have to change a value in startup.txt aswell if it is different from 'Android'.
Ultimaex is right. Creating a 1gb storage for android will take some time, be patient. I have a 2gb storage which took about 20 minutes from start to finish.
fyi, my setup is tmous stock rom 3.14 and tytung's NexusHD2-FRG83 Froyo 2.2.1 build.

Ive had this happen to me when I was switching builds. I deleted everything on my sd card that was related to android. Usually, the folders that android makes on your sd card are all lowercase letters. The folders are start with a capital letter are Windows Mobile specific folders. So delete all those folders, dont forget to show hidden files just to make sure you get all the folders. Afterwards, with whatever build you plan on using, its probably best to re-download that build just to make sure no files were edited and copy them to your sd card.
Basically just start with a clean slate and you should be good to go.
i had the same problem just reformat ure memory card on ure htc hd2
I formated the sd every time I tried. It's not that
Same
I got the same problem I have tried everything waited more dan 20 minutes. Formatted 25 times. Iam searching all forums to find something
Ok, I have mentioned this a couple of times and it seems to fix this issue, format the SD card within windows (a full format not a quick one) and ensure that you format it to clusters that are 32kb.
Also what radio are you both using?
I use 2.15.50.14 now, bit tried with every radio over 2.8

You mean you got all kinds of distorted graphics all over the screen. Black and white stripes kind of thing? If so, that's because you probably replaced zImage but didn't replace initrd.gz. Regardless, if you leave it on the screwed up black/white screen, it should load within 10-15 min.

[Q] Only hyperdroid 1.7 works. Why?

You might want to reformat your micro SD card to FAT32 and do a complete install from scratch. My combo has served me well with no issues.
That's what I have done, too.
Aww, it looks like there is no way out :/
Your card may be faulty.
Even when ONE build works every time? Is that possible.
I used an 2GB one and an 1GB one (stupid idea, i know ).
Now I am waiting for my new 8GB one, I'll try it with that, but I can't believe that this could be the problem.
But maybe you are right, thanks for your answer

Have you checked startup.txt?
What do I have to check there?
Some builds do take time to load.
Do you have a "loader" to automatically load droid or do you do it through selection of "clrd" and "haret"?
Are you installing the complete build folder?
I tried it with ,,LaunchAndroid'' on the Energy Rom (thats what works perfectly with HyperDroid) and on the other tested Roms, I used the casual method. Even this method worked with HyperDroid really well!
Everytime, I saw the green HTC Logo, I waited over one hour and nothing happens.
Then I gave up.
On HyperDroid, I see the Linux-Penguin and it goes through a black field with white commands on it and then it starts.
When I start all the other builds, I see the black field with the white commands for one second, then the green Logo appears!
To your last question:
I throw the folder on the root of my sdcard and that was it.
That's how it works as hyperdroid 1.7
Or is there another thing for the other builds, which I have to do?
Reltih2200 said:

You have to check that rel_path directs to the folder where Android is stored. Some builds are stored in folders named after the builds, whilst others are stored in the default 'Android' folder. If rel_path isn't linked correctly, you will not boot.
This could explain why only Hyperdroid works.
And also, as mentioned by others, wait 20-30 minutes on first boot, it may take a while to create your data.img
This seems to be the reason for it. I didn't tested it yet, but I took a look into the builds folder.
On HyperDroid it looks like this:
set cmdline "rel_path=HyperDroidV1.7"
And on Moto234 EVO v0.3 it looks like this:
set cmdline "rel_path=Android nand_boot=0"
Do I have to change something there?
I see that for HyperDroid, there is no Android Folder, only the folder ,,HyperDroidV1.7''. Thats what the cmdline says, too.
Do I have to change the Moto234 startup.txt-cmdline into
set cmdline "rel_path=Moto234_EVO_Black&Blue_V0.3"
In fact, THERE IS an Android-Folder. For HyperDroid, i put the files directly on the root, not in an android folder. When I take the files out of the Android Folder (for example the Moto234 build) and put it directly to the root of the sd card and I edit the startup.txt like, is it possible, that everything works fine?
I will try it and when it works, I am so happy

First of all, make sure Android is installed in 1 folder on root, and not in a subfolder of that folder. This means that the files should all be put in, for example, H:\Android\ or /sdcard/Android/, and not for example H:\Moto234blablabla\Android\, that's one folder too much (well actually I'm not sure this is - it probably isn't - a requirement, but do it anyways).
Then just change rel_path to the exact spot your startup.txt, or haret and clrcad for that matter, are located. For example: rel_path=Android , or rel_path="Moto234blabla".
Simples, see?
Edit: in case I'm not being very clear: of course don't change the folder structure inside of the Android folder. Files in for example /root/ or /data/ should remain where they are, obviously.
Yeah, but when it is, how you explain it to me, HyperDroid shouldn't work.
As I said, it is this:
set cmdline "rel_path=HyperDroidV1.7"
But the files of Hyperdroid I directly on the sd card, there is no folder or subfolder.
That means, the files are on H: and nothing more.
So, why does it work? I will test it at weekend, because when I have to start all over again with HyperDroid, after nothing worked, it takes to much time.
Maybe it works

Do a usb link and check the "Hyper" folder to see if there is another "Hyper" sub folder, this may be the problem. Sometimes one creates a folder and then places the build in that folder which it automatically creates its own.
If there is an "Android" folder, check that as well and make sure there isn't a sub "Hyper" folder; when you open either folders it should open a list consisting of "root" folder, zimg, etc.
So, I did everything mentioned here.
And...nothing works. ONLY HyperDroid 1.7
I mean, that couldn't be. I did everything, i changed the startup.txt, again I used thousand different ROM's. It sucks :/
I am glad to see, that you tried to help me, but it seems to be useless.
I have no idea what to do. Maybe it's better to sell the HD2 and buy a Dell Streak or a Desire HD. Then I have no problems like this.
When you have a nother possible reason for this phenomenon, tell it to me. Maybe this one works
Format your SD card and try again (do a full format, not the default quick one), maybe that'll solve it.
Does not help, sorry
EDIT: For anyone, who wants to know...i finally solved the problem.
I mean, I am so happy, I could cry

So, he said in another post:
I had the same issue for about a day, and after research of stuck on green HTC Logo with no help, and thousands of post later I came acroos an article regarding EncFiltLog.menc. Do not format your SD card with MAC or windows PC, but rather the secret is to format your SD card with your winmo phone by going to "settings" | "format SD card". It will create an exec file "EncFiltLog.menc" This file is, I guess, a partition index??? The file "EncFiltLog.menc" is hidden in windows mobile 6.x but is visible when you mount your SD card to your PC. Do not delete this file!!!!
After that just drop your android folder and it will boot up in less than 3 mins. After that, u may add all your other files. I use a 16GB card with Android and all my music and stuff with no problems. Hope this helps you.

And yeah, it worked. I went to settings in Winmo, then to System and then format SD Card. It took 1 Second (even faster then the quick Format on my PC) and everything works brilliant!
Thanks to you all, what a great Forum

I don't know!? I have the newest energy rom and on basic Windows Mobile 6.5, you also can find this option. Use the newest energy rom, go to Settings and then to system. There you can find KeyLock-Settings,Device Information,Format SD-Card,Remove Programs,Memory,Screen,External GPS,aGPS Settings,G-Sensor, Certificates, About,Uploader,Wipe,Power etc.

Yeah, as I said, it has nothing to do with the startup.txt. I solved the problem with the method, explained in another Thread. Now I tried 11 Builds (MDJ has the best ) and everyone works.
It's a mistery to me, why hyperdroid worked without to format the sd card via winmo, but who cares? Everything works fine, and thats awesome )

Recommend simple, idiot-proof, Android?

I have an HTC HD2. I'd like to run Android so I can use the Intuit credit card processing software....
I'm looking for simple, idiot-proof, acronym-free instructions on finding and installing a current, stable, functional Android...
I'm sure the folks that hang out here all the time know what all the acronyms are, but I'm a touch baffled... I figured out "sd" means the SD card in the phone. But, "NAND", "CWM" "MAGDLR", and some of the arcane terminology is confusing, and I don't know what I NEED to know and what I can safely ignore...
So, I can guess and pick some Android installation (it appears there are dozens of notes touting competing versions) but it would be simpler if someone in here can recommend something for a computer literate user that doesn't want to be a cell phone O/S expert...
Recommendations?

Not to sound ungrateful 'cause I'm sure there's a lot of useful information in there somewhere, but this is exactly why I'm requesting something idiot-proof...
simple flashing order:make hspl 2.08 using hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15.....-flash mgldr-flash proper cwr partition for selected rom-if you use eu hd2 make sd-ext partition in sd(this can be done by mgldr)-put your rom.zip in sd-in mgldr choose ad recovery-install zip from sd-choose zip from sd-after installation complete press back then reboot.ask again if you stuck
Why am I flashing anything?
What is hspl 2.09 and why would I need it?
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
and what rom am I selecting?
and on and on......
OK, so I presume the above is either a test or a bit of humor at the uninformed observer's expense (that'd be me)...
So, can I have all this translated from phone geek to dumb end user now?
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish, so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone...
my question, did you read the links? i mean really really read them? not just click and say "oh ****, that's a lot of text, i need help?" trust me....read them...then read them again...then read it again. it will start to make sense. your questions--
best read for a lot of your questions (besides what was posted above):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
Why am I flashing anything?
- you said you wanted android. technically you could use an sdcard rom, but he was just trying to give you what you asked for. guess the question should be why are YOU flashing anything?
you should ask - do i want windows mobile and android, only android (get rid of windows mobile all together) or windows phone (wp7) and android. only then can we point you in the right direction.
What is hspl 2.08 and why would I need it?
- read my thread above!!!!!! cuz you can't flash android without it (this is a custom bootloader that allows your windows mobile phone to install magldr or clk which allows you to install android to nand - aka install android to your phone)
what on EARTH does "hspl4-task 29-flash radio 2.15" even MEAN?
ignore the task 29 (i have never done this).
hspl4 will install hspl2.08 to your phone. this unlocks the bootloader. layman's terms - allows you to install magldr or clk to install android (or windows phone 7)
you need a particular radio to make this all work. that radio is 2.15. a radio is what allows your phone to make calls/data/etc. don't ask why this is, this is just the way it is. the radio your phone came with is likely different.
why do I need a "proper cwr partition"?
- cuz this allows you to install android. too small a partition, android won't fit. too large a partition, wasted space. just right partition = all good. you need to READ the rom thread to know what is the right partition.
and what rom am I selecting?
- you need to READ about the flavors of roms. there are a bunch. take one and try it. if it doesn't work, find another.
Again, I presume I can just put Android on the SD card without a lot of pain and anguish,
- yes, this is true
so still wondering what's a good, stable, fully-functional installation that'll run the GoPayment software and let me swipe credit cards through the phone
- beats me. but why not just try something? sdcard roms cannot in anyway hurt your phone.
now go read. and read. and read. and then experiment. good luck.
here is the best idiot proof way to get android on your phone. it is a winmo rom that has android already built in so you wont have to figure out what is what. its so easy even a cave man can do it.
Well, as usual, the secret to getting the right answer is asking the right question. And the trick to asking the right question is knowing most of the answer....
I didn't........
What I'd LIKE to do is have some current, fully functional version of Android available so I can process credit cards through my HD2 using a swiper. Over time, I may attempt to migrate other things to Android - like contacts and such. But initially, I'm just concerned about the CC processing.
So, as I understand what I want to do, putting Android on the SD card will work, and I just need to figure out which one of the umpteen versions is a good one. I'd like a home page that looks at least somewhat like my current Windows page. I"d like the buttons to continue to work as they currently do (as much as possible)....
I went out and started looking at the various SD Android versions here and selected the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one because of a reply in a previous note asking for a "good" Android......
Installed it, and it works fine, although I"m not particularly fond of the home page. Put the GoPayment application on, plugged in the swiper, and ran a charge.... Appears to work fine, so it solves my primary problem...
Now, since I've figured out I'd prefer to use an SD installation, and have one that works, is there a "better" one that I should try? One that looks and feels more like the Windows Mobile 6.5 I'm used to? Or, is there one that has a different look and feel, but some functionality that makes it superior to the others?
This ROM I'm about to recommend dates back to last November...
However, I have tried every SD ROM since that time, used them for either a few hours/days/weeks, and still always returned to this one. It is just flawless, albeit Android 2.2.
Just download it, throw the 'Android' folder into the SD Card, and run the two files (CLRCAD.exe which appears to do nothing, but does enable the sound, and then Haret.exe)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631&highlight=black+blue
If you decide to move off WinMob, then NANDs are good, but personally I just have a WinMob program which runs on boot and then executes those two files)
Enjoy!

do you like sense base builds or would you prefer 1 that doesn't have sense like cm7 or a miui ROM?
AmeriCanAndroid seems to be a favorite for a lot of people and is updated rather often but i personally like RafDroid HD found here. if you want to take a look at other android builds for the htc hd2 found here on xda check out this webpage. it will also give you some info about each ROM like the base, build, when it was updated & if it has sense or not. when you find one you want just click it & it will link you back to the page found on XDA.
Am I correct that "Sense" is the user interface used on the Windows Mobile HD2? If so, yes, I like it, but probably because I"m used to it. I'd have to try some different versions with different UIs to see what's most comfortable.
I'm currently running the nexushd2-gingerbread v2.8 one I downloaded yesterday. The UI is enough different that it's taking a little getting used to.
I'll have to give the others you mentioned a try, and go look at the web page that shows the different builds. I"m amazed at how many there are.
Just for fun I downloaded the AmeriCanAndroid 08/1/11 version and put it on the SD card..... Tried to run clrcad.exe and got the "CLRCAD annot be opened" error. Tried haret and got the same error. Both say "Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found..."
So, am I missing something simple or is there a problem with this build? I found a couple topics in here about problems with clrcad but they seemed to wander aimlessly without any resolution...
I've now looked through a couple DOZEN topics over the last year with complaints of exactly the problem I'm seeing with clrcad and haret... I don't see a resolution in ANY of them......
Yesterday, copied the files onto the phone for the nexus gingerbread Android, ran clrcad and haret and was up and running.......
Now, I've tried three different builds, including reinstalling the nexus one, and NONE of them will run. I get the same error for clrcad and haret every time.
Shutting down the phone didn't do anything.
I figure there's got to be a simple, obvious answer sitting here but I'm not finding it.
sense for windows mobile & sense for android are two different things. i personally dont know of any android rom or app thats availible in the market that will give you a windows mobile look or feel. i would find a rom that you want and then try & find a video on youtube that matches it so you can see what its like before you go through all the steps to flash it.
did you unzip AmeriCanAndroid or did you leave it in a zip file? i have since moved to nand builds so im going from memory which is starting to fail me in my old age but i think it needs to be unzipped using something like 7-zip. i think you just put the android folder on the root of your sd card. there is a video in the thread that shows you how to do the install. you can find that here.
so you tried to re-install something that worked for you yesterday but now you cant install it again? how long did you wait because with some builds it can take as long as 10-15 mins to install everything correctly. could you give me the steps you took step by step to try to install AmeriCanAndroid? i think thats the only way i would be able to help.
Yesterday I downloaded the Android 7z file. Unzipped it on the PC and let it create an android folder with all the files. Plugged in the phone and copied the android folder to the root of the SD card on the phone. Ran clrcad and haret on the phone and IT WORKED PERFECTLY.........
Today, just to try one of the builds recommended in here I downloaded a different android. did EXACTLY the same thing - unzipped with a 7z unzip, copied it to an android folder in the root of the phone, ran clrcad and got the error. Ran haret and got the same error........
Cleaned off the android folder on the phone, rebooted, tried a soft reset, etc.
Copied the nexus android build from the PC to the phone - EXACTLY AS I DID YESTERDAY WHEN IT WORKED. Ran clrcad and got the error......
I don't know what's going on with the phone or the Android builds or what, but there are a LOT of entries here and elsewhere on the web about people having exactly this problem. And so far I haven't seen the answer that makes this problem go away......
My recollection is that I had EXACTLY the same problem about 6 months ago. Installed an earlier version of Android and after the first time I rebooted the phone I could never get Android to run again. Just got the same clrcad and haret errors...
So, SOMEBODY, what's causing this and how do I get rid of it WITHOUT having to do some hard reset the destroys everything on the phone?
Back up any data on you sd card you need (I.e. pics, vids, music, whatever you feel important.) Download the Panasonic sd formatter and format your sd card. Copy over the android folder that is in the 7zip that you have unzipped. You should be able to boot ok from there.
Sent from my AmeriCan NANDroid HD2 r727 magldr
Formatted from the PC.
Installed the formatter on the PC. Formatted the SD card. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Copied the Android folder (the identical folder I copied yesterday) to the SD card, and STILL get exactly the same error from clrcad.....
Is this something that happens a lot? 'Cause so far, the two times I've had Android on this phone this has happened. And there are a LOT of topics out there with exactly this problem, and a lot of unsuccessful "do this" that don't appear to work. Does ANYBODY had a real fix for this? It worked perfectly 24 hours ago, now it doesn't. My BIG concern is that if Android is flaky and unreliable on the SD card I can't use this thing to do credit card processing if it's going to randomly fail and not be bootable.

your suppose to copy the unzipped android folder to the root of your sd card and not your phone. i think thats why your getting an error.
example: download rom and unzip using 7-zip. take the "Android" folder not AmeriCanAndroid from within that file and drag_drop or copy_paste to the root of your sd card. then using a file manager from within winmo go to the android folder & run clrcad and then haret. it should run fine. you can also use a program called Rundroid that automats some of the work. its a great app that will allow you to dual boot android but i think you might find it useful as well, you can find it here. RunDroid will allow you to run several android builds from your sd, not just 1.
fwiw, I can't (won't) say anything bad about any custom ROM offered on this board. My own favorite (to use) is a personal choice, which doesn't make it superior to any other - though it may be. It's just what I'm used to, what works for me and what I'm satisfied with.
Doesn't matter if you use a stock HD2 WinMo setup, or a custom WinMo ROM on your HD2. An Android SD build won't interfere with it. And so... (personally) I use AmericanAndroid (ACA). It IS used by a majority of folks for good reason. - BUT - I'm trying my best to be careful and clear with YOU that it may not be the best solution for you or anyone else in particular. We don't play favorites on this site for good reason! For me though... it is an extremely easy ROM to implement.
So you're having a bit of trouble with clrcad & haret... No Problemo.
Google is your friend... find and install under WinMo the 'exceller bootloader'. You'll boot WinMo... and then run Exceller. It will shut down WinMo and run clrcad & haret.
Make sure you've properly installed ACA on your SD card first. No need to partition your SD card. Make sure you're clear with the instructions on the first page and be sure to edit the startup.txt file (before installation) to change the LCD pixel density from 167 (default) to 240... unless you have eagle eyes or like tiny icons & text.
This is your simplest solution, and... get to know it a bit before you swap it for something that might (possibly) not be better. There's a reason a majority of users have chosen to use this Android build.
I'd wish you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with these things. Have fun with it! -Rob
Yes, EVERYTHING was copied to the Android folder OF THE SD CARD......
I have no problem installing yet another piece of software to (hopefully) get the necessary clrcad and haret files to run, but THIS WORKED TWO DAYS AGO. Without a bootloader or anything else. It worked.....
And yes, Google is quite effective. It showed me dozens of topics in forums where people complained of EXACTLY the problem I'm having. What it DIDN'T show me was a fix that didn't involve reformatting the SD card, REPLACING the SD card, doing a hard reset on the phone, and (this one I haven't seen before) installing a boot loader to hopefully get around the issue... BTW: all the above with the exception of the boot loader were tried by people with no success.
FWIW: I"m not criticizing any of the Android builds in here. I'm sure they're largely excellent, with slightly different flavors. And they represent a huge amount of work, of which I'm cognizant and appreciative.
I presume the problem is with Windows Mobile, NOT the Android builds, but it would be comforting to have somebody provide a solution to why it works when installed, and doesn't work after a reboot. Did all those other people that had the same problem do what I did six months ago and just give up on Android as being more work than it was worth? This isn't an isolated problem, there are dozens (and probably hundreds) of instances of people not being able to get Android to boot.
Anyhow, I"ll go find an exceller bootloader and try that. Hopefully, the thing is controllable so if things still fail I can get back to Windows...
I spoke too soon....... It's early here (having started this again at 04:00), and maybe my brain just isn't working yet, or it could VERY possibly be that I'm just too stupid to be allowed to mess with this whole thing, but I eventually found a copy of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB and downloaded it to the PC.
Then I went and found instructions on installing a cab file on the HD2. According to them I just COPY the cab file from the folder on the pc to My Documents on the SD card of the phone, then disconnect the phone from the PC, navigate to the folder, and click on the cab file.......
OK, sounds simple enough....... Did so.
Got a popup on the phone that said it was "Installing ..." At the bottom I got "The program is from an unknown publisher... Do you want to continue?"
So, I clicked YES...... Again, fairly idiot-proof........
And got "Installation of EBL2.1a._PlusUbuntu.CAB was unsuccessful."
Nothing else.... Just the message on a blank screen...
I"ll leave out the amount of screaming and swearing I"m doing at this point.....
