I've heard it called Android 2.3, 2,5 and 3.0.

Anybody else think that Gingerbread is going to look like Google TV UI-wise? Speaking of which... maybe I should make a Google TV-like theme for CM6.1...

Android 3.0 SDK to be released next week.

This may be old news but I thought I'd throw it out there anyways. From what I've read the Android 3.0 gingerbread SDK is supposedly to be released next week. I'm not really a developer of Android applications as of right now but it still seemed note worthy.
3.0 is gingerbread. I suspect your source is wrong.

I wasn't thinking straight.
Thats cool, because now we should see all new features?
Or it isnt the final Gingerbread SDK?
Cool!
What's your source on this?
It may be true. Gingerbread final is promised at the end of the year, so a beta SDK will probably pop up somewhere soon. Google's goal is to have as many apps ready to be installed as possible.
Does any one know if the epic will be updated to 2.3 or any rumors. About that?

Kind of the wrong section of the forum to ask, but doubtful none the less. Most phones only get one legit update.

New Android Version? 2.4

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119160
Apparently some people have 2.4 on their Nexus Ss.. Do you guys call bs or actual new release in the works? I personally think it looks pretty legit but wanted some input from you guys.
I think it's a fake. The OP had 1 post and the next Android update is supposed to be v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
EDIT: I saw the reply's pictures, now it looks real.
I'll forward the link to Dreams and see what he thinks of it.
yeah.. I was like obvious troll is obvious but the latter actual pics and not screenshots made me reconsider it.

2.4 doesn't exist. Anyone can fake a version number.

could be an incremental update 2.0->2.1 both eclair.

Yes it does, just not in the public eye.
It's months old, it became 2.3.3
there was a story months ago about 2.4 coming to the nexus S this isn't a big shock. everyoen thought it was ICS but it was just an incremental update to Gingerbread
Can't you edit a couple files to say you have whatever version you want
Like type TRUFFLE5.2 somewhere in the build prop or something and it'll show in your about phone

Yeah, like one of the guys in that thread had Android version 5.4.6

2.4 has bent mentioned a million times, originally ICS was 2.4, then 4.0 now back to 2.4.. then they said 2.4 was a GB update for Dual Core phones.. but one thing I am certain of is, that guy doesnt have it on his phone...
Of course he does, it's an old gingerbread build, nothing special and not worth faking. ICS has never been 2.4
On the Nexus One 2.4 was GRI05, and 2.3.3 was GRI40.
to the android news sites it has.. just google android 2.4...

It is an excellent guess. CM team will not make a SDK port. Source: http://goo.gl/OgWcA and http://goo.gl/SScoQ
Source for Gingerbread was... December 17 I think. Internal testing and such, alphas and nightlies, and it was on ROM Manager January 17. So a stable enough release to be made public in that manner was one month. Alphas and such before that. Approximately one week for a booting version with touchscreen.
Edit: source of ICS should be released soon after the release of Galaxy Nexus. Source: WIKIPEDIA
Havent you read there help on CM7? DONT ASK!

Since this thread was made, i'd like to add my speculation, any of you who have deeper info are more than welcome to rectify it.
I'll start with what we all know.
CM7 (to-date) is not officially supporting our Samsung Epic 4G due to needing Gingerbread Source.
Mainly Decad3nce&JT1134, (with a few commits from Uberpenguin, Daemon & Noobnl) have brought us an unofficial version of CM7 aka a CM7 'Kang Build'
We're very close to the possibility of having CM7 official.
CM9 at the soonest, is planned to be available to officially supported Cynanogenmod phones, January 2012.
I'm not sure if bringing the Epic to 'official' CM7 means Deca and JT1134 will have the CM team to back them up, or just merit them the title of "official" but if its the latter, then the soonest we should see an official early ICS is 2 months after our epics become Official CM7, and not when the other devices get them in January 2012. This of course is just me thinking here. With all of Deca&JT's work prospering, and the future merges they'll be doing, we may just see an ICS CM9 working build like the other offical phones of CM.

If I understand correctly, Honeycomb was "released" in that at least some of the code is included with the ICS source. Google has indicated they won't release a vanilla version of the Honeycomb source because it never coalesced into a finished product.

Honeycomb by their standards wasn't a finished product. Had it been finished the way they wanted Matias and Hiroshi to go about it, ICS would have taken on a very different look than the final product we have now. Because HC would have been what ICS is.
Sent from my Epic 4G
There's also the fact that honeycomb was not MEANT to be a phone platform. Google has said from the beginning it was optimized and intended for tablets.
This is exciting news indeed. I loooovvvee CM. I installed CM7 with the Green Machine theme on a friend's Optimus V and I was oooing and aahhing as I was poking around to see what it had going for it. I tell her all the time that I'm envious of her because I did 2 things on her phone that I so far cannot on mine: Install a fully functioning and stable CM version, and get data2ext/data2sd working on my beloved Epic.

And we officially won't be the first to ICS

This makes google and the nexus line look bad

Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S(our phone! ) are the only two phones getting a version of ICS optimized BY the Google Team.
Huawei take the source from AOSP and fit it to their mediocre phone.
It's an easy choice..
