Well Cyanogen Stated On His Twitter That It Should Be Released By Tuesday.
Does Anyone Know If It Was Still Going To Be Released On Galaxy S Phones?
I Remember The Thread From A Couple Days Ago But I Don't Remember If It Was Official?
that does not apply to the Vibrant (to my knowledge). It is going to be a little longer for us.... plus this is a RC.....
My guess would be no.
From what I understand it's been postponed. Apparently Samsung devices are a nightmare to work on, they still do not have the source code for the kernal, and other lofty matters I wont pretend to understand.
They are shooting for 6.1 rc (release canidate), not final. So no, probably not yet. I dont think they even have it booting.

I doubt cm anything will come out for the vibrant

I m hopeful
I'm hopeful but the CM ppl seem dis-enchanted We will see 6.1 for the Galaxy when Froyo is released

it is going to happen the nexus one can run it. Our phone is much more powerful that the the nexus S is very similar. They pulled back froyo. All signs point to us getting it but it will most likely take 2 months for binaries to be released and a build to be compiled. And I don't want to hear the nah sayers going on and on that you can't trust samsung blah blah blah... Even noob said we are getting it and I know he is on this inside track.

This isnt 3.0 it is a build upgrade from 2.1 a totally new build takes about 6months and upgrade is about 2 months.

We will probably get it around the time that 3.0 comes out or 3.1 usually how it works. 2.3 comes out now..sprint releases 2.2 to epics... at least we get updates faster than most US carriers do. Look at evo. Sprint plz OTA 2.2 already.

Droid already has 2.2.1 - boss man got it last thursday OTA i think. He isn't rooted.
Droid X went live on the 10th as well.
All in all google is going to greater lengths to help push out the updates faster. Its one of the biggest gripes with android. Look to the gingerbread update to change things. After gingerbread android os will be much more uniform.

I expect things to change greatly once 3.0 comes out..this is when release cycles for android will slow down thus giving manufacturers more leeway..
Agreed. I think they are planning on phazing out UI overlays as well when 3.0 comes out. No more motoblur, sense, tw, etc. For the tech geek we like it because we port things over from other platforms. But the Ios boobs they just want something shiny and homoginized, and that's probably the demographing android wants to really take on

Utter misinformation.
As of today, Samsung's U.S. Galaxy S support site on Twitter still denies that there has been any such announcement.
@JoeBatson no official statement about updating US Galaxy S line to 2.3 has been made & we aren't prepared to discuss this at this time.

Looks like Androids next big thing Ice Cream Sandwhich may have leaked. For real this time.
Look here: Twitter.com/captainkrtek

I don't know if HTC will officially support Ice Cream for our Evo's. I just remember the issues that the devs ran into prior to the official release of GB. I hope I'm wrong because it would be great to have. I also wonder if our hardware even meets the system requirements.

ICS is designed to help end fragmentation. It should run fine on the hardware. I doubt htc will support it tho.

If this (http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/13-things-we-might-see-with-the-release-of-android-4-0-in-q4/) is correct, any phone running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.
Evo 4g is close to its end of life the only way we could get this is thru roms

It's interesting at least that we may start getting hints as to what lies ahead for both Android phones and tablets. I'm sure the CM folks will end up porting, so we'll likely see it on the EVO 4G at some point.
Looks like it's mostly UI changes though. Wish they'd posted a screenie of the Gmail app changes; I love the app but the look of it is plain and ugly.
I honestly doubt the Evo will get ICS, we barely got GB, and its not like that OTA was welcomed with open arms.

Considering people have gotten 2.3 running on the G1, I think it's entirely feasible that the EVO could run ICS.
It may not be without it's problems, but I'm sure after some refining it could be perfectly usable.

Source was never released (if I remember correctly). So that's why we never saw any roms.

Honeycomb was designed for tablets and plus the source was never released to prevent more fragmentation. Icecream is supposed to bridge the gap between gingerbread and honeycomb.
Looks like it will be coming out around the holidays for the Samsung phones
This is from Gizmocrunch

"Now what's interesting is that both Samsung devices are mentioned as getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, leaving the HTC built Google Nexus One out of the equation. So it looks like Samsung will have a big advantage over other Android phone manufacturers come this holidays when Ice Cream Sandwich is set to debut."

Lol.. I was wondering when we are going to see this thread.
I don't need ICS. By next year, we all are going to be upgrade eligible.
By then ICS will be more polished.
As always, Google tends to dish out half-baked stuff. I expect lots of updates for ICS to settle.
Could we get CM8, whe that becomes available, now that we have GB source, and don't have to worry about other sources cming out?

If that's the case, then I'm almost positive we could get a port of ICS. I don't really care if it's official.
Then again, it's hard to be optimistic in the Epic 4G world.

I've had the font for a little bit now it's pretty nice, but all the apps are odexed and there isn't a means to deodex them yet, so we have to wait and see I believe.
Yeah, I saw that you posted, I installed soon after, very easy on the eyes. I'm excited for ICS even though we just got GB source. I'm thinking maybe Google's ICS framework is what's needed for that sexy contacts or as they say, "people app", but I want that on my epic.
Yeah, I'm trying to take images from the ICS keyboard and move them to the Gingerbread keyboard. I replaced all the files....and yet, it still shows Gingerbread images. D:
But the font makes it more enjoyable.

Don't know if that is what they meant by it should be capable on 2.3 devices. More that the hardware will be able to handle ICS if it could handle Gingerbread. This would not be the first time though that a phone runs a newer version of android with a modified older kernal.
