I'm been really annoyed with all the hate being spewed about the Nexus S over the last several days. I've been meaning to post why I think most of the hate is seriously misinformed or not fully thought out, but I came across this post on Android and Me and it sums up almost exactly how I feel.
Credit to jivemaster and Android and Me:
I am first in line for a Nexus S. I’m not sure what people are waiting for. This is Google’s phone for the next 11-12 months like the N1 was. Great support, great features. It uses the top tier hardware available to date. Best screen in the industry, best CPU, best GPU in a phone. Sure it’s no dual-core, but that disappointment is purely a consequence of the stupid rumours that have plagued this device since its conception.
This will be what the Galaxy S should have been. Great hardware fully controlled by Google.
For heavens sake, the SGX540 is a truly epic GPU, and vastly more powerful than the 535 found in the iphone and ipad. Apple’s devices run great games, and the Nexus S trumps both devices with its power. Sure we’ve seen it before in the Galaxy S, but the Galaxy S is a pure Samsung phone, crippled by it’s unoptimised OS, practically no support is given to it, the poor thing is still waiting for froyo in most of America. Because of this, we have not seen the true power of the hummingbird. That is until now. And it will be glorious.
The Nexus S is not last gen. It’s current gen. It just missed the dual-core boat. And people are fixated on it.
This very website said it was hard to believe that the Nexus S could be released with a dual-core, but plenty of other websites/blogs went nuts reporting the release setback was due to a dual-core upgrade. Everyone got set on the rumours and when this was released there was nothing but disappointment.
People are too busy thinking what the Nexus S could have been.
It’s silly really. Dual core is not ready. Dual core is not supported in any android revision to date, honeycomb may change this, but I highly doubt the upcoming tegra phones will sport honeycomb on release, or anytime soon after release. That’s being delusional. Manufacturers have taken so long to release these tegra phones, and these manufacturers are catastrophically slow with updates. I’ll be surprised frankly if they ship with gingerbread.
Good luck getting your updates on these tegra phones in a timely manner.
Tegra is unbelievably powerful, no question, but in the hands of device manufacturers I think performance will vary greatly – device manufacturers tend to throw in great hardware and then cripple it with absolutely shocking OS revisions and software optimisation.
You’re guaranteed a lot of great optimisation with the Nexus S, but not with other products.
You really only have the LG Star and Motorola Olympus to choose from if you want tegra, and they were running froyo when we last saw them. The LG Star just looks horrible as far as build quality is concerned and video demo’s show it lag, and the Olympus is a AT&T phone, so if you hate that network you’re screwed on that front.
Plus remember both with be nowhere as hackable as the Nexus S, which will see huge dev support just as the N1 before it. You’ll be lucky if these tegra phones get any decent root access. Motorola loves the efuse concept. It’s crackable but it will never have the simplicity of the Nexus S.
And lastly, who doesn’t want the phone that developers are developing their stuff on? The Nexus S is THE benchmark for all future android phone applications. You’re guaranteed that apps will run as the developer intended on the Nexus S over any other phone in the Android ecosystem.
Embrace this phone and give it a damn chance. Google deserves that much.
Amen to that ^^^^ . For a moment I thought I was the only one getting a Nexus S.
I agree in spirit. I'm just salty about the lack of any notification LED and dock contact points. I want a device with polish... the N1's docking and notifications are still unrivaled, but they could at least have put those into their device.
I'll still probably get the phone and hope that some nice docks are in the pipeline so I can sell my N1 and the docks.

I remember how pissed everyone was when Google closed the web store thinking they caved into the carriers demands and there would never be a pure android phone again.
So now that Google actually comes out with an even better phone everyone wants to complain? I could care less if its a dual core or doesn't have an SD card or wasn't as game changing as the Nexus One.
All I care about is the concept:
- Google phone with pure android
- Better specs than Nexus One
- Can be used w/ t-zones
People complaining it wasn't a game changer need to be happy there at least is an option now in case our Nexus One is lost. I know I sure am
You sure it's going to be the benchmark for the entire next year?
Sure it'll be the benchmark for next 6 months i'd say but heck, neither LG Star nor Motorola Olympus is ready yet and why they were running 2.2? Because they were made before Gingerbread was even ready for the Nexus S. They were built from scratch not from an existing product. My opinion, I love my Nexus One. It was the true innovation the time it came out. Who had AMOLED screen and snapdragon processor on one phone back in June? except for HD2, nobody really did. It set the benchmark for every android device to beat until now. I'm not saying the Nexus S don't deserve the Nexus name or anything. It's just isn't worth the $529 for what it's lacking. not the dual core processor either.
There is a Nexus S forum now
The Nexus S is a fine phone. As a developer, I'll probably get one in the next six months or so. But I am annoyed by the lack of a microSD slot and LED notifications. I have a 32GB microSD in my N1 right now and have it nearly filled with music. I also have come to depend on being able to glance across the room and see my N1's trackball flashing brightly in a color that tells me just what kind of communication my phone received.
So I'm not at all a hater of the NS, but I am sad that it drops some really nifty features.
Amen.
I shall be getting this phone within the next 3-4 months even after my disappointment with the lack of an SD card slot, LED, and trackball.
Ita a beautiful powerful phone.
But again I cant see why anyone would "love" it coming from N1.
Id consider it but only because Tmo seems to get cute phones instead of the big screen full featured Evos/Droid Xs of the android world.
The decision making behind the phone is just odd. People are calling it out justifiably. If this was anything but "the next google phone" its be another blip on the radar.
I'm not feeling it because there's no Micro SD card support, no LED notifications, and that crappy-feeling build quality. I HATE the Galaxy S line of phones because they feel cheap. I love how my N1 is made of real metal, and feels solid and has some heft to it.
Now, would I love a Nexus S? Sure. Would I want to dish out $529 for one to replace my awesome N1? No way in hell.

Fine, I'll say it. The S isn't today's version of the 1, and shouldn't have received a Nexus name.

The S has some advantages over the 1. Let's all just admit that now. Wang and I are in agreement here over this point: Those advantages, to us, are minor and are not worth ditching the N1. Wang and I will be waiting to see what drops in Q1, early Q2 at the latest.
The S isn't anywhere near the "superphone" that the 1 was when it dropped. Nice? Sure. Decent specs? Sure. The N1 raised the bar SUBSTANTIALLY. The S only raises it incrementally.
My .02.

1. AMEN...I just dont think alot of people understand just how invaluable this is. Its ridiculously easy to prioritize messages and hands down the easiest way to get notified. Plus for those that are hearing impaired its the only way to get differentiated notifications ((since obviously they cant do ring tones)). Evo/DroidX/MT4G/G2...do any of these phones have it ?
2. Thats all it is in a nutshell. You take the N2 give it hummingbird ,4" SAMOLED, the new form factor ,FF camera ,GB ,NFC we'd all be standing online for it.
But you add only a few things but take away some very important features to many ??
Three steps forward two steps back isnt a good way to make a mark.
The Nexus S will get love, it deserves love, but won't be getting any from me (that does NOT mean I'm a hater, just that I won't be getting one).
* As Schmidtty said, the N1 was meant to push the hardware platform, by using ahead-of-its'-time specs and it did. The Nexus S has nice specs to be sure, but it isn't running way ahead of the pack challenging others to catch-up like the N1 did. The Nexus S is the next "step", the N1 was a big "leap".
* No microSD slot?
* Funky SD/Internal/External partitioning?
Anyway, I'll be keeping my N1 until Uncle Schmidtty comes out with the Nexus Whatever that's got multi-cores, monster GPU, a 5" screen with zillion-point multi-touch and "retina" destroying image density and 16gb /system and microSD slot for whatever I want.
I think it's logical to omit the trackpad, HTC used to say that they still have it on phones to make it easy to navigate and select text. If they already solved that ( as Google says) with the Gingerbread easy text selection and editing then the only reason to have the trackpad is to wake up the phone, at least this is the way I use it.
The loss of trackball notifications has 0 effect.
Check out backlight notifications for the Galaxy S phones.
Works just the same.

push hardware platform ahead of its time???? if i am not mistaken, at the time of its release, the nexus one was the third phone released with the snapdragon. first one being toshiba g01 and then the hd2. like 2 months later , the n1 came out. so i dont think this was a revolutionary step.

I know he didn't mean it, but he should've said Android phones. I don't believe any Android phones were out with the Snapdragon at the time of the N1's release. I also don't believe there were any phones (Android phones) with AMOLED screens at the time.
The NS has it's contour display, NFC, and Google's support behind it.
But it isn't amazing. It doesn't blow anything out the water. Not much to "oooo, ahhh" about..

The only innovative thing n1 came with at that time was the amoled screen. you're right.
About android phones, the first snapdragon on android was by the Liquid a1.

[Q] Galaxy S I9000 to Nexus S [FULL UPGRADE]
Hiya'll
I'm considering an upgrade from my current Galaxy S "international" to the new Nexus S. Some of you may not consider it an upgrade hence I'd like to take it further here. I'd love to receive all the new updates as fast as possible unlike now when I had to wait three months for Froyo on the SGS to arrive through Kies after its official release by Google. Also reading through the forum, I doubt Samsung will release any updates beyond 2.3 for SGS.
Do you value the new Samsung handset and consider it as potential upgrade? Or would you rather stick to your SGS as you're completely pleased with it?
I'd like to know if there's anyone else out there waiting for the Nexus S as I'm
the SGS is probably a better phone. with Micro SD and FM radio is more important than flash camera and NFC I think.
As for the updates yeah I agree it would be nice but yeah it's a tough decision. I'll probably stay with the SGS unless I can get the nexus S cheaply
Guys this is what samsung want, they wont/delay upgrade to 2.3 for SGS cuzz they want to sell their new flagship phone, this is what samsung always do, and this is not just me, i've read the same thing in some other blogs and websites also.
Think about it !
The Galaxy S is indeed a better phone.
Google focused more on software than hardware, so they didn't want anything to hinder it's performance. Thus, hardware-wise, Galaxy S is the better phone, and once it runs Gingerbread - it will be even better than the Nexus S.
There will be other phones coming out with 2.3. And if Samsung still wants to sell the SGS by then, they will have to deliver it with 2.3.
Not all competition is internal. And while for some products or manufacturers it makes sense to handicap the entry level models (for example when it is cheaper to produce the same hardware, and a cheaper model is sold with reduced functionality but still at a profit) this doesn't apply to SGS, as it is the top of the line.
I think the Nexus S is more of a sidegrade, and it seems the NFC makes it rather thick. It seems more like a technology demo than a mass market product to me.
But then, GT-i9100 or GT-i9200 would also be coming. Those could be essentially identical to the SGS with the differentiator being the software. So I feel those do pose a real risk in this regard,
Best point of SGS: it will boot everything you throw at it. It is not locked down, so it is open for any formware that is released independent of kernel changes even. But a bad point is that there does not seem to be a real public, team work developer community; the serial interface to the SBL looks really interesting and might even allow booting from the external SD card! I didn't find a forum that stimulates me to do that kind of experiments yet, especially as signal to noise is so low. Whenever an interesting development happens, the threads are filled with posts like 'will this be ported to Captivate' (by whom?), repeat questions, and other displays of entitlement.
jutezak, appreciate your opinion and the SGS indeed is a great handset. However, if we'll depend on the developer community aside from the manufacturer then that would probably slow the process of receiving updates. Most developers even at XDA will run a certain project and end it as soon as it feels complete although bugs are constantly reported. Some even leave without further notice.
I appreciate all the hard work done by all developers yet the manufacturer here i.e. Samsung plays a far more significant role unless they also seem to neglect the SGS to pose their focus on another peice of tech.
In terms of hardware the Nexus S may not seem as a potential rival yet meriting it's Google heritage as the next Nexus One in line raises no compatibility issues with any Android App released to date as seen accross the platform with many other Android devices.
I'd really like to get a Nexus S
but without the extra SD card slot... it is a big no no....

nexus s is not samsung's flagship, sgs is still their flagship phone. nexus s is google's phone made by samsung.
Samsung Mobile already tweated SGS will get 2.3 for sure
there is a topic about that
in all honesty i cant see what gains there in the Nexus S to a Galaxy S owner... as stated lack of memory card expansion slot - poor effort IMO!
the only plus i see is that it runs google supplied O/S and not samsung played with version! im running JPU on my galagy with ADW.Launcher and im more than happy, stock rom, rooted but no lagfix and its far superior to all other releases. If Gingerbread is released to Galaxy S users then id happily stick with SGS over NS.

It all comes down to money. Most of us can't afford to upgrade every 6 months. Any upgrade is worthwhile if money isn't a factor.

it doesnt help that the service providers now only offer 18/24 month contracts (i dont think anyone does 12month now!)
Loads of 12 months contacts in Oz.
It's Googles phone, not Samsungs although they make it. Doubt Samsung is going to drop the Gallaxy and start promoting a rivals phone.
Serious note. SGS should now get updates just after Google phone users, now they use the same hardware. If not Samsung didn't negotiate a good deal when agreeing to supply them with hardware.
Samsung seems the place to be now, move over HTC.

very few if any offer 12 month in the UK now
the handset is still technically Samsungs, but built specific to the needs of Google... its pretty much the SGS with a few tweaks and additions, running stock android 2.3
we (the samsung SGS owners) would hope they have a decent agreement regarding the O/S updates, but as others have said "why would they release a new flagship to outshine the SGS then make it better?"
Have you guys ever considered the Nexus S to be a GOOGLE ONLY device like all the other NEXUS/G1 dev phones? In other words its not Samsungs top of the range device. I say the GT-9200 or Samsung Galaxy 2 would be Samsungs flagship. Maybe it will be a Nexus S with FM and external memcard and LED Flash. The reasoning behind my thoery is if you looked at HTC, Yes they did release the Nexus One but handed over the marketing and support of the device to Google while they released and marketed the HTC Desire (their flagship device at the time). Either way the Nexus One isn't ment for the general public even though you can buy it and the next Galaxy whatever its going to be called will be Samsungs baby. So basicly what I'm saying is the Nexus One is a moot point for everyone saying they want to upgrade to it and just wait for the next Galaxy S (GT-9200) which I'm feeling will land or be announced in Feb as thats when Samsungs new Amoled factory will go online. Also word is that they will stop making Galaxy S after Dec anyways to supply screen for the Nexus One which will be a stop gap til launch of Galaxy S 2 (or whatever the new flagship device is) Samsung has a history of killing devices to supply screens to their flagship phone. Ie they killed off the Samsung Wave and replaced it with the Wave II which only had SLCD and lower spec hummingbird because they needed the parts for the Galaxy S.
How many of you think its worthwhile to shift to a Nexus S? If not why?!
My next device must have a dual core processor with a higher resolution to convince me to make the jump! Or atleast more RAM....if the Nexus S had 1GB of RAM, i'd surely be tempted to switch!
What's your stance?
I'm not going to upgrade to Nexus S because I don't see it as an upgrade nor as a downgrade.
We'll probably get a port from honeycomb, so I will use my SGS for a while.
Other than the pure android experience I don't see much reason to upgrade. If it had a standard submatrix samoled I'd upgrade in a heartbeat.
I'm not as i don't see it as a step forward.
Yes some things may be new and better, but overall I see the nexus as a step sidways from the galaxy s.
Personally I don't see the attraction with the curved display, now do i like the idea of NFC, I dont wanna be walking along and have things flashing up on my phone.
I dont know why they bothered inventing nfc when there is bluetooth, wifi, 3g and qr codes available.
I also see the lack of external SD card as a downgrade.
I have seen posts all over XDA and other forums regarding this.
Does anyone have the REAL word on this????
There has no been official word from Samsung either way. From the dev work here it is certainly capable of running Honeycomb.

I really hope so. Have been looking forward to running Honeycomb ever since it was launched. And even more so when I actually got my Tab!
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Since Honeycomb is a tablet only OS my guess is the Tab will get Gingerbread instead since all the Tabs except the ones in North America officially have the phone feature. But, judging from the trend of Samsung it seems 2.2 may just be it and business wise they feel that will inspire you to spend more money on buying the new Tab or S2 to get the latest OS. But, that's just my opinion.
Sent from my AT&T Tab w/voice using XDA App
Well, I got the galaxy tab thinking it would at least get gingerbread.
As for Honeycomb, I think it should run OK. Even if the whole OS doesn't run, I'm sure we will at least get apks for the tablet optimised apps like gmail.
But hey, there's a new HTC 7" tablet announced with slightly better specs and it's said to get honeycomb. HTC is popular, I'm sure we can get a port from them.

The new Tab is a 10.1" device, which makes it a completely different animal in my opinion.
Regards,

IMHO Samsung dont seem to really care about it's exsisting customers only the new ones.
ive got an S and Tab and although i like both devices the lack of support winds me up, they constantly release new hardware with the latest software and seem reluctant to support what is in fact still "new" devices.
I dont buy into "you bought they device with froyo, so that's what youve got"
I expect high end hardware to be fully supported it's an insult they release a new device after 6 months without supporting the current one.
Any legit reason for not having honeycomb? No none.
I really cant see myself buying another Samsung product.
If the OEM doesn't wanna play nice and give us Gingerbread let alone Honeycomb, I'm sure the ORSUM devs here will be able to "cook" something up.
Afterall, isn't that what this forum is all about?
Some little 'savings' for Samsung
Samsung care about costumers already have. There is official 2.2.1 there are lot of other devices from other manufacturers what simply won't get 2.2... and we will get 2.3 also... Who said they don't care about costumers... New tablets are not the same category, except HTC Flyer almost all are 10 inch monster and for lot of money... Not the same race as Galaxy Tab in. We bought our device on the last quarter of year, will we rush for a new one just for Honeycomb and dual core CPU, don't think so... This is problem for Samsung? Don't think so. Will be no people in the future who change his/her device in every next quarter... If Samsung leave me alone, would we buy any new Samsung device in the future? Don't think so... Could it be a big business? Don't think so... We will see...

I would say that executive is dead wrong. This year the market will be flooded with 10" tablets running Honeycomb. As such manufacturer's need to find a way to differentiate themselves from the pack. Samsung's current Tab does that by having a smaller size and being able to make phone calls. I hope Samsung decides to make a next-gen Tab 7 to go along with their new Tab 10. I am very happy with the current Tab but I also think it could definitely benefit from a dual core processor and fast graphics engine.

I very much agree with what was said.
added note that we all know that the nook color has honeycomb running already. even though its a port of the sdk, doesn't the nook color have lesser specs than the TAB? I'm positive that we will get something made for us.Surly not by OEM, but by yours truly, the amazing devs.... after we clean up the mess in the Development Section. It looks like a 9 year old went to clean his room because his mom said so and just took all of his toys and shoved them in the closet.
If the Tab doesn't get an update to Honeycomb from Samsung, I will be a former customer, I'll donate this to my mom, and I'll switch to the HTC Flyer. They've been brilliant with their updates, and their UI updates for Android.
Same for me, if the Tab doesn't get an update to Honeycomb from Samsung, I will not buy any other Samsun device ever. The minimum I expect from them is to give support to an only 5 months old Tablet. When I said support I am meaning updates.

Unless Samsung intends to phase out production of the 7 inch galaxy tab I don't see how they can not support a Honeycomb release. By all reports that I have seen the Galaxy Tab is selling very well indeed and that would mean that Samsung would continue with production for quite some time. If they choose to produce the 7 inch tab with gingerbread only and the tab 2 with honeycomb it would indicate that the 7 inch tab is doomed as far as Samsung is concerned. They would gradually phase out production of the 7 inch tablet altogether.
One other possibility that Samsung might try is to produce a dual core 7 inch version of the tab with Honeycomb installed. That would give them an excuse not to support the current galaxy tab by encouraging current owners to move up to the dual core technology.
As far as Samsung committing to 10 inch tablets is concerned...only the market will determine what size(s) will be produced. If consumers prefer a smaller tablet the manufacturer's will continue to produce tablets in the size that the market wants. To do otherwise would mean giving up market share and I don't think any of them are willing to lose market share in a market that is growing very quickly.
Either way Honeycomb will wind up on our Galaxy Tabs. The developers here at XDA are brilliant and I'm sure they will combine their skills to port Honeycomb to the current Galaxy Tab.
The short answer.…yes it will, but not from Samsung and not anytime soon.
From the Tab.

I think the state of smartphones is tough for the manufacturer and consumer right now because the evolution of technology for smartphones are out of control right now. Someone needs to step up and say "hey, we need to tone it down a notch. We need to allow the consumer to catch up and actually enjoy the investment they just made". Yes, it is an investment for the consumer because they are actually committing to 2 year contracts or paying a lot of money for full price phones. So, manufacturers need to roll things out slowly as far as new hardware goes and enjoy the profits till they start to see it dropping then roll out the next great thing. On the OS side of it? I think Google needs to step up and say "hey, we need to get all the devices that can handle the most latest and greatest version of android updated and caught up." Then, from there roll out new versions at a solid steady pace. Take some control if they really want the android OS to rule the smartphone/tablet market. Of course this is just my opinion.

for what it's worth, i like my tab coz it has a phone function period.
even if we dont get honeycomb, we would definitely get ice cream when it landed on nexus which is honeycombish and gingerbreadish
its fine for me
patient is the key ^^
I was hoping that Samsung would at least announce their next 10.1" tablet at CES. That would've given me a reason to not keep the Prime, or wait for the Prime HD.
Just because they didn't announce it doesn't mean they're not working on it.
Secondly all these Crapple lawsuits may have Sammy keeping their lips sealed tight for the time being on what can and can't they release.
W/ that said the new Tegra 3 Asus 7" for $240 USD looks damn nice.
I have no doubt they're probably working on their next 10.1 tablet, but still, some word would've been nice.
And yes, I'm definitely getting two of the Memos. One for traveling and one for my sis. I think this Tegra3 tablet stole the Asus show (assuming it will be out soon and prices won't change).
Samsung went gangbusters this past 1/4. They have a lot going on with Android and it is only getting better. Why do you think they hire people like cyanogen?

True... S2, Gnex, Note, GT7.7, 8.9 (Did 7.0+ come out this quarter also?)
They've been busy for sure. I agree with the OP it would have been nice to see somthing, but I have no doubt Sammy has a few tricks up their sleeve. Wonder which Samsung tab will get ICS first?
Hopefully the 7.0+ or 10.1. But with that said I think the 8.9 needs it most. Honeycomb runs worst on it from what I've seen.
It will also be interesting to see the Ipad junior as I have no doubt Apple will be pushing their 8" line soon. 8" tabs just seem to be perfect for me.
The truth is, Samsung released a lot of new stuff this quarter, and their showing at CES was impressive. The thing is, it focused mainly on other applications, (TVs, Washers, Dryers, and services.) Samsung has been making massive waves with its other devices, but they never want to scuttle sales of the ones currently on the market. Samsung is undoubtedly working on a Tegra 3 tablet, but they're probably going to wait on releasing it for a few reasons;
1. Releases at CES often tend to get buried in the insanity of it all. It's a trade show, so everyone is showing off their latest and greatest, and it's hard to grab everyone's attention and hold on to it. This is necessary to create anticipation for a device. You only need to look at Samsung's releases of the Nexus S, Galaxy Tabs, and the Galaxy Nexus to realize that they always manage to generate excitement by making sure their device is released at a time when people can pay attention.
2. Samsung doesn't always make it to the market first, but when they do arrive, they tend to dominate. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 wasn't the first Tegra 2 device or the first Honeycomb tablet, in fact it was the 4th to the market. This delay allowed them to avoid some of the quality issues that plagued the other tablets. It also allowed them to release a tablet that managed to become the acknowledged benchmark for Android tablets. I'm sure the Tegra 3 variant of the Tabs will be just as showstopping.
3. It has only been 6 months since the release of the 10.1 If they were to unveil a tablet now, it would destroy the sales of the current line of devices, even though the release of the production model of the Samsung Tegra 3 device would possibly be a few months away.
4. Samsung, being a device manufacturer, may be working on shoehorning more impressive technologies into their next-gen Galaxy Tab. If the 7.7 is any indication of their direction, we may be seeing a 10.1 with one of their awesome new Super OLED screens that they have been using in their new TVs.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, be patient, (as hard as it may be for all of us.) Samsung rarely disappoints when it comes to product releases, and I'm sure their "favorite child" Galaxy Tab series will be getting something amazing in the coming months.
They probably didin't announce at ICS for two reasons:
1) To avoid getting lost in all the clutter.
2) They have the resources to hold their own mega-event. I'm guessing they'll wait until right before or right after the iPad3 launch event.
All the tablet announcements at CES were pretty lame. Especially compared to the leaked specs of the 11.6. Based on that, Samsung's next-gen tab is the only legitimate competitor to the iPad3. The question for me isn't when it's going to be announced, but when it's going to be released. Hopefully they’re following Apple’s playbook and will have it available shortly after it’s announced.
I'm assuming they're waiting to unveil their tabs/phones at MWC (2/27) since that's dedicated to mobile. Can't wait to see what they've got.

It is a big disappointment that they did not announce something they have ALREADY announced?
Confused.
Like they have announced elsewhere on tiny twitter or something. People like me don't follow micro blogging so no way on earth would I have known. A vague announcement of sometime in the first half... yeah that's a lot info to mark on my calendar.

Id actually prefer if they didn't release any new tablets for awhile because then they'll support us longer. When samsung releases the next galaxy tab line, our support will probably be over kind of like the galaxy tab (original) was when this came out or galaxy s when the s II came out.

I hope they release their next tablet with their own processor... I'm over anything Tegra based.
I personally think samsung havent made any announcement regarding any tegra 3 replacement of SGT is because they probably wanted to use their own Exynos chipset. And I hope to god that this is the case. Coming out with a Tegra 3 device will just make Samsung unable to differentiate from their other competitor. As well as they get to push their own technology rather then depend on Nvidia
I'm betting they will show it MWC. It is rumored to have an Exynos. Forgot where i read it but at this point its just speculation.
My only disappointment comes from XDA being used as a sounding board for whining. How pointless.
Looking forward to a Tegra 3 ICS Samsung tablet.
Will be selling my iPad 1 soon in anticipation. I have been suitably impressed by a recent Nexus S purchase (first Samsung phone) and really want to go Sammy/Android for my next tablet.
Cheers.
It won't be Teg3. Since 3.2 was released with support for non-Teg processors, Samsung hasn't used one. The 8.9 LTE is Qualcomm and the 7+ is Exynos.
Here's an online article from Know your Mobile...
The 11.6-inch Galaxy Tab, according to reports, will launch on Android 4.0 and feature a truly staggering 2560x1600 resolution display, which well and truly kicks Apple’s Retina Display out of the park. Other notable spec, according to BGR, is the device’s ultra-powerful dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU that is reportedly clocked at 2GHz.
We’ve also heard talk of Android Beam – Google’s version of Apple’s AirPlay – coming as standard, as well as a novel wireless docking mode for gaming on HD TV sets. All in all this sounds like one impressive slate – we look forward to seeing it (either at CES 2012 next week or at MWC 2012 in February).
11.6 inch.....drool!

The current line was introduced between CES and MWC 2011. So if there's going to be a new line then expect it to be at or around the MWC date.
Seems a bit soon to me, but in absence of the SGS3 announcement at MWC I keep seeing rumours about the appearance of something called the Note S, which apparently is an upgraded model of the Note. I cannot see the logic of this, I mean what is there other than maybe a bigger battery that requires an upgrade to be produced so soon?
No way will they announce an upgraded Note at MWC. The gs3 is far ahead of any note upgrade.

Well I agree. But I wonder why there seem to be so many of these rumours about it. Only the other week I saw one along the lines that it would be Samsung's big announcement now at MWC.

Samsung has become a very rich and greedy. His only care about earnings and soulless marketing.
I think at mwc, Samsung will not reveal any high end phones. apparently there is no Samsung keynote this year? At best they might announce a new tablet.
Samsung plays MWC low-key: No press conference planned
"Samsung has confirmed that not only will the company’s much-anticipated Galaxy S III not be making its debut at Mobile World Congress this month, but that the Korean firm has no press conference planned at the Barcelona show whatsoever. Despite high-profile and expensive launches in previous years, Samsung is playing the 2012 show low-key it confirmed to PCMag, though new products are expected to be revealed."
Pink note and vibrate can't be turned off. And styles is now a spent holder and has a build in vibrator for your "calls". S pen is pink too and on the button is a big ;-) so you can configured vibration to slow and fast.

With a version just now coming to the USA and Canada... announcing a 2nd Generation would seem to hurt those sales.
Besides, the international model is still very new.
One thing is for sure; I'm a Note user for life. I look fwd to Generation 2.
Hi all, newbie here.
Thread resurrection.
Any new info on next version of Galaxy Note or Galaxy S3?
I have an iphone4 and am tired of the small screen.
I'm considering the Note, Galaxy S3 and Lumia 900.
I have tons of apps for my iphone, but use them mostly on my ipad3.
The Lumia 900 is available, cheap and seems to be a very good phone.
I'm in awe of Note screen but don't want to get it if the new one will be available in 6 months.
I'm intrigued by android as I've always been a geek and like screwing around with things.
New phone, new phone..... I love that feeling. Saying that, I still get it often with this beast.
I doubt they'll announce a note successor until the fall. I reckon this announcement will be the s3, which will probably be similar to GNexus but quad core, and no doubt trounce the htc one x.... Too soon? Sorry.
If you're interested in win phone, I'm using launcher 7 which imitates it perfectly and adds features too, so if you want limited hardware, go for it, but android keeps your options open. And the tech in you will no doubt be dissapointed with win phone.
Also worth consideration, they're working on a full ubuntu server that runs when docked... On Android of course, so things really are heading towards laptop replacement. It's exciting. The note is awesome! I reckon the s3 will be tasty too, but I can't move away from this screen

even if they release new Note , honestly I am not gonna upgrade unless.
1. MUCH better display, like no more pentile and no more color banding
2. MUCH more battery efficient display and processor
3. better volume rocker/power button placement
4. no more hardware buttons
5. smaller or even none screen bezel
to me, Note is pretty much perfect (in ICS), if they only release a new note with faster or quad processor. Honestly I will not be interested. (which many manufacture intend to do as an "upgrade".
