Are there any taskbar modifications that display signal strength in dbm instead of bars?
I live in an area pretty close to the threshold of no service, rarely above 2 "bars". Displaying the actual dbm of the received signal would be more helpful to me. Currently, I find myself running FieldTrial quite often.
Thanks,
Chris

Try out a program called BattClock. It can display TONS of various specs and readings of phone parameters on your task bar. And all in either digit/numeric form, or as a meter bar. The "RegKey1" programmed into the app is dedicated to the phone signal strength. I have it running on my phone as a bar, and also briefly ran is as a numeric % read out as well. Hope this helps out to what you're looking for. BattClock app thread.
Thanks for the BattClock suggestion. When attempting to display RegKey1 (Set to "Signal Strength Raw" it displays "6®". I'll continue to work through the settings, but this may not be able to display dbm yet.

This is indeed a percentage.
Here is an article which describes the relation between % and dbm, although this one is for Wifi.
But the percentage is a good indication of the signal strength....

I didn't realize that number actually represented percentage (and presumably the symbol represents "%"). I'll be going into a high service area today, so I'll watch how this behaves.
Thank you for the article. Although I would still prefer to see actual dbm, this provides me with a working solution.

You can change the symbol behind the percentage. I did make it something else to see the difference when you show more BattClock items. You can change it in BattConfig -> Display Formats -> Reg Key 1

I changed the display format to %d%% and it shows signal percentage now. The problem is, it only indicates in large increments corresponding with how many bars the phone displays. Specifically:
Bars Signal
x 0%
0 6%
1 18%
2 34%
3 66%
4 94%
Is there a registry edit that changes the increment like you can do with the battery?
Thanks - Chris

Hi,
until recently, I had a nice coloured battery indicator at the very top of the screen, over the whole width.
I uninstalled iLauncher because it used to much space for me, and installed TrayLnch instead. Now that battery indicator is gone, so I guess it came with iLauncher.
Is such an indicator available separately?

Batti is wat you're looking for:
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/
You can customize the colors that are used in the topbar indicator!
there are 5 stages for which you can choose your own colors:
- normal
- low
- critical
- charging
- A/C
And you can also select a margin on the left, the height of the indicator, and at wich levels you want to switch to "low" and "critical".
Looks great, thanks
There is another thread for this, but do either of you know how to get RID of the existing battery icon in the tray itself? I as well use a different battery displayer (spb myself) but I hate the one in tray.
Also, 1-2tje, what are you using at the bottom of your screen to show you current loaded applications? I have the first icon on the right side, but none of my other running apps show up.

So far nobody has an solution for the batteryicon in the topbar!
The icons at the bottom of my screendump above are not running programs! It are shortcuts created using PHM TrayLaunch (use search) . however some programs place a icon in the bottombar while they are running e.g. tomtom, while other programs don't place an icon there. Therefor i think this is program specific.
Hi, I trying create the black status bar icons set for use with white themes and I foun hard to change signal state icons...
my question is : anybody knows how to add for example 7 line of indicator of signal state like this....

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but my primary question is how to skin this signal state icons f.e. black red and so on...
I stuck here:
changed colour of signal state but it seems like the signal state icons appears like "transparenting" status bar, because it also changes default white background on programs dialogs...
Any suggestions ?????
other pics...
for illustration of my problem...
If I am not mistaken, the signal icons are all contained in the shellres.96.dll.mui file. I remember seeing them while I was looking for the battery icons (I wanted to do the same as you but with the battery).
Hope this helps.
some months ago i changed some system colors with sktools, also the background color of wm. I also found out that wm uses this backgroundcolor for both, signal and background, so i see no way to manage this Problem without changing both so welcome to the the world of unlogical confusing programming:windows mobile. Try it with a light or middle grey for both.

the registry key is:
HKLM\System\State\Phone\Signal Strength
but then you have to create your own taskbar with something like homescreen plusplus
or you try wisbar
i am currently working on the same. i create my own taskbar with homescreenplusplus
just in case you need more keys:
HKLM\System\State\Phone\Cellular System Available
HKLM\System\State\Phone\Cellular System Connected
all right

...the ones for Diamond don't seem to work
I use and like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2922530
I know it's simple, but I use a little self contained exe with TINY footprint called k-battery. it always appears in the top bar, and you can configure it to show time and battery or just battery.
...IB a n e
I use the VGA FixNover % battery icon and Batti, which shows a bar across the top of the screen which is visible while running applications.
I use WkTask which display a bar for the battery level at the very top.

so in your opinion finixover battery doesn't affect battery consuption much more than leaving standard battery display?

Anyone has the problem where the battery indicator is not accurate? I'm using QM's digital battery indicator and the percentage doesn't seem to change after a while.
I have to do a soft reset for it to be updated. And it will stay updated for a while before it "hangs" again.
Anyone knows how to deal with this?
Thanks!
I have the same problem. There is some mysterys with bettery percentage indications. Sometimes it's stay at on place for a hours and in other cases could run every minute down. What could be a reason for this? Maybe it's problem with battery?
Can't confirm this with my device. The default indication works just fine. Tried also Batti for a few days and no problems occured, progress bar showed correct information and even the temperature info seemed to be perfectely believable... I don't know what the QM's digital battery is but looks like the problem might be in that program...
2ArMikael: Probably nothing new for you, but just for sure - consumption hugely deppends on actual ussage, biggest drainers are GPS and Wi-Fi each of these can completely drain your battery within few (~4?) hours. Also check for processes with permanent CPU ussage on background etc.
2Dair, you right, that's not new for me. I'm not so stupid.
That's the catch that the battery going down even with turned of wireless protocols, GPS and programms at all.
But maybe it's a problem of a new battery. Last few days, after a full discharge of battery this problem disaperead. Battery percentage showings seems like a normal.
So guys, if you have a new phone don't forget to do a full dischage and recharge before you take it hard.
I've stopped running QM, however, it seems frozen still. Do you think I might need to uninstall it, or even do a hard reset?
Ethermind has created a new batterydriver for Xperia which also seems to be working really nicely on other devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=513480
It shows, with the right icons, the exact percentage of your battery in steps of 1%.
Read his thread to get more info.

And if you use gtrab's wm6.5 taskbar icons with the driver don't forget to thank gtrab!
Hello developers,
I just came with an idea for the 1% battery display, it is developing an application which calculates 1% battery and displays the values in realtime based on the values read from the battery voltage. So, we will have accurate values being displayed without considering that system battery information display(may be toggling it off). What you people say?

If we do that in kernel its a hardcode and difficult but I'm trying to do in softcode like just reading the battery voltage from an application and showing the percentage values.

Lets say if you have voltage reading of 3650 then what would be the battery % if its calculated based on the current battery voltage? and compare it with the system battery %, you do see the battery difference.
Well nice idea but as dharam said it's already done in the kernel and also from what I noticed the voltage doesn't remain constant
And if you do it you'll make a widget/status bar indicator then what about the stock status bar indicator?

The status bar has to be changed to normal indicator instead of battery % and using this application to see its 1% battery info.
I know voltage doesn't remain constant but we do get the somewhat accurate values than from the kernel we had now.
I know we have it kernel but we dont have 1% battery working successfully if battery goes below 50%. I see a battery steps of 50-42-37-34-25....15-5-3-1.
So, I'm just trying to make batter for this ranges using current battery voltage.

I don't think you can read the battery status from any app, even with using native code. The system sends a broadcast message every time the battery status is changed, you can only use these messages, you can not read directly the hardware.
Too late man, I already asked about that here. There is an app called battery monitor pro, but it's a paid app. He implemented the feature of setting the up-down limits after my suggestion. The free edition doesn't have the manual set and the preset of 3200mV(low limit) is not correct for our phones. Our device works within 3500mV-4150mV
