Hmm ive been using froyo in my hd2 for the past few months its really great but i found a few problems, my screen always goes black randomly and have to remove the battery to restart it but then i have to reboot android from windows again lol, is there a way. I could choose to have automatic boot as droid?, and the facebook app that it supposef to havepre installed doesnt wotk so i cant sync my contacs to it. Hmmm and i cant use it in usb data transfer mode, a few preinstalled stuff dont work and some stuff isnt installed at all dont know how to fix it can anyone help me? I really like my fone as android, cuz windows realy just wasted the nice fone with win on it,

Sounds like you're using an outdated version of Android (well the build anyway). I had several problems like you're describing with a few builds when I started out with Android.
Things have come on leaps and bounds now, facebook integration works across the board, black screen freezes and sleeps of death are very close to eradicated on the more mature builds and USB transfer mode has been working for a while too (I use it on a daily basis).
As for the bootloader, I use Exceller Boot Loader (search for it on this very site for an installable cab under WinMo) and you can automatically load Android every reboot once you've got it configured correctly.
So, in summary:
1: Update your build to a current one and see the changes. You can keep your current data a number of ways (data.img stores all your sms, contacts, games etc, but not all builds can read your old data.img, install Titanium Backup and read the wiki for it to get that working for almost guaranteed success)
2: Exceller Boot Loader or another boot loader of your choice, there are lots to choose from.

Thanks, amm do u have aby suggestions on witch froyo i should use cuz i see my post by like froyostone something like that but the one im using is darkfroyo something like that. Hmmm

Honestly it's all down to what you prefer. Some people prefer Sense based builds, some prefer non-sense builds (CM6/MIUI/stock) and so on. My best advice to you would be to try a few and see how you get on.
for instance I used to only use sense builds until a couple of nights ago when I plucked up the courage to try ShubCraft 2.0 (A Cyanogen Mod 6 build) and I love it. The main thing to remember is to experiment and enjoy it.

If the andriod rom has grown from leaps and bound, why has there not been one that stable enough to use everyday? Not being a ass about it
But Id like to be able to use my phone without the issues that these new roms have, its bad enough when the window roms act up

I think you'll find that a lot of HD2 owners here are (and have been for a while!) using various android builds full time now. I have not actively used my HD2 in winmo mode for many weeks now.
Whilst there may be a few minor issues my experience is that current builds are much better than many winmo builds with fewer problems.
I prefer using desire based builds are better than Evo based builds but that is a personal preference.
Try them out seriously... the developers here have done great work.

To Android or not to Android...

Hey all,
I have been pondering on this question for a very long time... I love my HD2, I think it looks awesome and performs very well. The amount of things you can do with it make it my kind of phone.
However, I have been running on Winmo since I got the phone and never looked into different ROMS as the one it comes with seems to do the job.
Recently it broke, so its being sent off for repair (got stood on). So i'd thought i would look into this a bit more.
I think, if I do go ahead with it I will try out the shubCRAFT version as it looks so sweet.
However, I do have a few questions:
- I have copilot 8 on my current phone, would this still work on Android? I mean, I have paid for it afterall.
- Is remote desktop and wifi router avalible? I remember on my old Dream that I couldnt get these with Android.
- Is Android stable enough not to pull your hair out and get annoyed with bugs and crashes?
Thanks!
I know there is a version of co pilot for android. Not sure if your lic would transfer over after all it is for winmo. the app it's self isnt cross platform.
I know there are remote desktop type apps I dont use them so you will have to research. Wired tether works on some builds on some it doesnt. youll have to look deeper to see which one it does.
And last but not least
Android is stable for me. But i have been using it even when it wasnt stable.
There will be trials and errors afterall android wasnt designed to be on the hd2.
So you have to rely the selfless act of these wonderful people to iron out the kinks.
So you might wanna stick with winmo.
I'm probably wrong, but I dont think your able to use your Win Mo apps in android as they won't be compatible.
Also I have been running android for just over a week now, and I'm trying to find out how i can go back to Win Mo when i first got the phone.. with no custom ROMs, as using android will give you like 8 hours battery life, unless thats the version im using.
I have the Desire rom with sense, and the only good things are the apps, but my phone is unreliable as it will crash and freeze alot and rebooting every hour or so.
But im not very experienced with this so you may be able to get it to run smoothly

Info on how to revert back to stock is in the main hd2 thread. the battery life Is really dependant on your usage and the use of programs like setcpu. I know on mine the screen eats most of my battery. I had terrible battery life on my g1/htc dream. That tells me I just use my phone to much.
No winmo apps are not compatible at all but there might be a android version of a winmo app. I dont have the freezing and crashing that you do. Id say looking into Mattc's rom he has been getting a lot of good press.
Thanks for the replies...
Hmm, I may stick with WinMo for a while longer then...
I use copilot/wifi router (people love me in uni)/remote desktop alot so if they arnt fully compatiable then im not sure.
However, as Android will be running as an App, would it be possible to close it and carry on with WinMo then switch back when I want, or would it not be that simple =/
It seems it is possible to use Co pilot with Android, I may have a look into this when my phone gets in from repair.
Just unsure of which ROM to use D:
I use winmo when I need to ... and I hate it. You will find a lot of compatibles. Its what I had to do when I first bought the phone. I was coming from android and It was a big adjustment. I about freaked out when I had to use the silly slider at the bottom .
It doesnt hurt to have it. You could always turn it off at anytime and never use it.
android is installed on the memory card so you can always go back to window mobile if needed. There is a tutorial in here somewhere that shows the exact step to transfer your license to android. search for it.
putting android on sd card and running it is very easy......all you need is a radio above 2.08.50.........
you can install jwd dual boot app...then you can just shut down winmo, bootup android...shutdown android..boot up winmo...as simple as that.........
just try android for fun, it doesnot hurt.......whenever u want to go back to winmo...just reboot...simple !
Its real tough to reboot and use windows when you need to.
Its also real tough to delete android off the SD card when you want to get rid of it or copy another build to try.
Heck, i even have a real hard time renaming my usual android folder when i want to copy a new one to the SD card to try a different one.

Do you have a hard time turning the phone on also. sounds like you need an iphone.. It has the apps and the more gb's and the wifi's.
btw im totally kidding
Go for it. Android can do anything that Windows mobile can, but better. Igo Motonav is a good gps app for android. I transfered my IGO files from WM to android, so copilot may share files on each platform.
is there some way to play .avi files? its the last android issue I have
not sure about avi files but try meridian the one with the larger circle.. v.2 i think it is..
its the only video player i could find with nicer the stock on screen controls, such as repeat and forward and rewind.
rockplayer I believe will play them!

some issues that are bugging me...need your input

hey guys. i'm a very nitpicky person and there has been a few "issues" that have been ticking at me lately. i wanted to ask to see if it's an issue with my rom (OMJ v3.1 odex) or just general issues with the phone that I have to live with.
1) for a 1ghz phone, it takes FOREVER to load. i'm usually anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds on the splash screen, after which the boot animation plays and maybe 10-15 seconds after the animation ends the phone starts to load....but it goes into the lock screen, and i have to unlock it, and then a million things start opening up, so that from screen off to fully loaded and ready to make a phone call the phone takes at least 1 minute, sometimes close to 2 minutes.
EDIT: just timed it - 45 seconds on splash screen, 25 seconds from end of boot animation to lock screen
i'm coming from a 667mhz WM6.1 phone that would boot, animation and all, be ready to call in 30 seconds or less.
i can live with the time it takes to load if it was normal...but then I hear things on here on how the evo loads in 8 seconds and i'm looking at mine and wondering what's wrong
is this a rom issue (OMJ v3.1 odex), kernel issue (king's #6), android (2.2), phone in general, or a result of all the different things we install on our phones (adblockers, superuser, custom flash, custom boot, etc)?
2) when the phone loads it always opens the dialer. i go back into home screen. throughout the day at least once or twice the dialer will randomly open on its own when i unlock my screen.
3) wi-fi at home is secured through wep2...but at school is unsecured to connect, but then you need to authenticate through the browser. sometimes this works, sometimes the browser (dolphin hd) just stays loading and doesnt take me to the authetication page...and the only way around is it to disable and enable wifi again. then everything is perfect.
is this a rom issue? or a dolphin hd issue?
4) I have LauncherProPlus with their custom icons from the website. whenever i restart the phone the icons for Dolphin HD, Documents to Go, MixZing and Pandora change to their standard icons. i have to restart launcherpro and they go to the matching icons i have throughout the homescreens. then at random points those three icons revert back to the stock icons, and i have to restart launcher pro.
is this a LP problem, a rom problem, or a me-specific problem?
5) perhaps the most important issue - i have problems downloading and installing certain apps in the market. I paid for lcd density changer and installed it. uninstalled it later on. now i'm trying to reinstall and I keep getting an installation unsuccesful message...same thing goes for Rom Manager (which i have installed, but installation unsuccessful with update), and many others. Some programs will update, some wont. Today I tried to download 3d gallery through the market and keep getting that issue.
this has happened with other programs in the past, where I thought maybe they werent meant for the EVO...but many of those had comments from EVO users??? and now some of those programs that wont install are programs I HAD or I HAVE installed!!!
is this a rom specific issue? or a market issue? or an odex issue? or does it have anything to do with having app2sd and move2sd enabler on the phone? none of the programs in question have been moved to the sd card...obviously not the ones like 3d gallery that I haven't yet installed.
so, thank you for reading through all that. any help in either of the issues will be greatly appreciated.
if most of the issues are rom-related i will go hunting for a new, stable rom. if they're general woes that come with owning the Evo then I guess i need to know that too.
thanks in advance!
I can't really help you much in terms of a solution, but coming from a Blackberry the EVO boot time seems very fast! However, the EVO is definitely not an 8 second loader, I don't know where you got that information.

This is just a guess, but I'd say it's the ROM you're using. Have you tried anything else? Make a nandroid backup of your phone now, then flash another ROM and test it out, it's easy to revert with the nandroid backup. Keep in mind the first time you load any newly flashed ROM it will take longer than normal to boot.
In my experience, stock 2.2 and all its OTA updates (and the ROM I use that is based on the latest OTA) are pretty good when it comes to boot times. Anything you install may have the potential to slow things down.
I'm currently using the VaelPak 2.2 ROM with the latest HTC kernel (no 30FPS limitation) which is very stable and very fast. VaelPak stripped out some of sense (not all) and I love how you have the choice between HTC/Sense elements or AOSP. For example, I actually like the HTC dialer, messaging, and contacts.
thanks.
i guess i'm going to have to flash a new rom...but it'll have to wait till next week!
i'll look into the different roms but i had thought of flashing CM6 since I'm not using any sense other than the dialer as far as i know
thanks
any other opinions are welcome!

Are all of those apps saved on your SD Card? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
yes all four apps are in the sd card. i was using pandora and plugged the phone in to my pc to try to install that 3dgallerym.apk i found on here. pandora stopped (i'm assuming as the sd card was unmounted). after unplugging and the card was remounted i was able to open pandora again...but then the 4 icons had reverted again.
i'm starting to think that is a lp issue. i'll send a message to the developer see what he says about it.

FYI they have their own forum. You should see if it has already been answered there.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/
The boot up taking so long is do to custom roms being deodexed.. It puts the odex file into the apks so that you can theme a rom without any problems. Stock roms arent deodexed so they boot up a lot faster. Its the only downside to deodexing a rom.
Also you should try to start fresh.. wipe data and dalvik and reboot. Then see if you have a problems with downloading and stuff. It might be cache left on the phone messing it up. If a clean data/dalvik wipe doesnt fix your problems then its most likely the rom or user error. Try a different rom for couple weeks and see if you come across the same problems.
My rom is odexed...
Im going to try cm6 next week most likely...
Swyped from an HTC Evo on MetroPCS...
First off, are you running a task killer or manager? If so, uninstall and reboot. A lot of the time this is the source of problems. Android manages its own tasks quite well. I can go into a lot more details if you'd like about why you shouldn't use one.
If not using a task killer or that did not help....
I say try Fresh ROM or Myn's Warm. Fresh is very stable. I think you may have a corrupt download of the ROM. However, since you are using LP you don't seem like a Sense UI person so CM6 may be your option. However, it does not have 4G nor HDMI. Personally, I love Fresh ROM. The dev came from the Hero like me and has a very very good track record for being stable and fixing things. And he is a cool guy.
Install one of those and then post back if you still have problems. I think this will fix it.
BTW did you flash from another ROM and use a backup app to restore? This can cause problems with ROMs that have different settings and options.
As for boot times, like the earlier guy said deodexed ROMs do extra stuff while booting. Also, lots of apps can cause slow boots because they start up on boot. You can use an app to disable them.
And last, app not installing. Hit menu-settings-applications-manage applications. Hit the SD tab and see if those apps show up. If so, click on them and uninstall. This will most like fix that issue.
Post back results here or if you need further help. We will be glad to help.

Pandora has always been glitchy. Its a great service, but they need a new programmer.
8 second phone. I think not. Try the Desire Z (G2), their version of Froyo looks faster.
If your new to the EVO, give it some time. Its a smartphone, and anyone with experience knows that all smartphones are temperamental some times, just like computers.

im considering CM6 because i barely use any sense apps. mainly flashlight, clock and htc lockscreen. i'm on metropcs so i cant use 4G and i dont have a HDTV so no need for HDMI
Install one of those and then post back if you still have problems. I think this will fix it.

have not done that...and now i know not to do it when i change roms.

well the problem is 1) if the app is in my sd card, i dont need to uninstall it, just move it to the phone and then i can update it. but i have over 100 apps installed, it is not practical to do this for every update for every app! 2)some apps, like LCD Density Changer, which I paid and had installed before, wont install at all and i dont have it installed...so what there?

The OP's sig says he has his EVO on MetroPCS; if that's the case then lack of 4G shouldn't be a concern.
That's the only real thing keeping me from trying CM6, even though there are only a few pockets of 4G coverage where I live.
Well I switched roms to ava v9 and some of the issues seem to have gone away...but still having problems installing apps from market...many if the apps and games I had before on my previous rom give an installation unsuccessful message...
Im thinking it may be something I damaged by installing htc and sprint apps right after flashing the rom...I'm going to restore all those files and see what happens...

[Q] Which Android development is the best for now?

hi i want to use android on my phone but i have truble choosing, there are just
so many developments!!!
so my question is which one is the best?
i am using the camera the games calling and music
so which one is the best for me?
Because you are using the camera, the Desire HD and Z builds are out for the time being so ignore those.
That leaves you with the choice between Sense and Non-Sense (stock) versions, which only you can decide. This will be a subjective decision anyway as my choices might not reflect what you like in a build.
I would recommend any of MdeeJay's builds as he seems to be the dev that keeps them the most up-to-date and fixes bugs regularly, plus his kernel is reportedly very good.
Personally I use ShubCraft2.0 but this has recently been discontinued along with a number of other builds meaning they will no longer be updated. However, I've heard good things about the following:
NexusHD2-FRG83 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793924) which is a stock build based off the Nexus One branch
MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823491) which is as the name suggests a Sense based build.
It's all down to personal taste which you prefer.
There is no "best"... try a bunch and see which you like best.

Make sure your startup text is pointing to the Android folder,,, or whatever it is named. That could be the problem.

by " nothing else happens " you mean the screen goes black or it sticks on the 4 lines text ?
if it goes black, then you have to flash another radio, if it stick then you will just have to remove battery and try again
I tried all of MDJ android builds, in addition to few others, and i am stuck between MDJ FroYo Sense Clean and MDJ Froyo HD:
the FroYo HD has the best interface, the latest Sense with many improvements on the older Desire android (Scenes, Skins, HTC Sense.com, Bluetooth transfer, and other stuff), but the camera is not working, while MDJ Sense Clean 2.3 has the camera working.
When the HD rom can suppor the camera, it will be the best IMHO...
This is one of the most stable roms i have found with working camera and long battery life(as long as you use the right settings).

[Q] Comparing WinMO< -> NAND (And switching)

hI,
First of al sorry if quetions have been asked before, I coud not find all answers, and sometimes contradictions.
I am new to NAND. Familiar with Android and WinMo.
I really love my HD2.
Therefor I am wondering about a few things:
- Is it poible to revert to WinMo (eg for guarantee/repair), I read several times it is not posible.
- Battery consumption in Android NAND: Better or worse compared to WinMo?
- Speed on NAND: Better or worse compared to Android on SD?
- Boot time: Comparable to SD or faster (Like factory Desire?)
- Are all Desire sense functions working?
eg1: Desire HD has possibility to ring phone when set to quit via PC, i this posible with Desire HD build on HD2?
eg2: Silence ring by turning phone
- Is there sync software (like with Sony Ericson Xperia 10i) like activesync/mobile center?
Finaly:
Which is the best Desire HD including sense buid around? (Most stable, Longest battery life)
- Yes it is possible to revert back, just people rush into things and don't read so they aren't knowledgeable of their device
- Iunno, considering i have not used winmo since android came out. Well for standby in andoird, 6 hours took off 3% for me
- I'd say it depends on your build. If you're using a sense build, then I feel NAND is faster than SD builds, atleast for desire HD builds. In non sense, it's the same speed
- I wouldn't know if boot time is comparable to an android device as I have never touched one before. To sd, I wouldn't say there's a notable difference
- Yes (except 720p recording, which we all know doesn't work with android on our phones as of yet)
- HTC sync, however I don't know how efficient it is as I've never used it.
There is no best of anything.
- Is it poible to revert to WinMo (eg for guarantee/repair), I read several times it is not posible.
It is possible. I haven't done it but every where I go it says possible. However like flashing winmo rom there is always a certain level of risk.
- Battery consumption in Android NAND: Better or worse compared to WinMo?
Worse. It's close but def worse than winmo.
- Speed on NAND: Better or worse compared to Android on SD?
Didn't try SD android that much, but nand android is FAST.
- Boot time: Comparable to SD or faster (Like factory Desire?)
Don't know. But I used nexus froyo build, sometimes it boots in <20s.
- Are all Desire sense functions working?
eg1: Desire HD has possibility to ring phone when set to quit via PC, i this posible with Desire HD build on HD2?
eg2: Silence ring by turning phone
Don't use sense build.
- Is there sync software (like with Sony Ericson Xperia 10i) like activesync/mobile center?
No need, just copy/paste.
Thanks all for your replies.
I am running Android from BAND now for a couple of days, and I must say that a lot of worries were not needed.
Doing a lot by GGD, I. Missed task sync with Outlook/exchange. I got around that.
Now for the answers in my opinion:
Speed, compared to SD: Faster if one leaves phone to settle for a few minutes after boot. faster than WinMo.
Battery life: With use of advanced taller I believe better, at least comparable to WinMo.
Market offers lots of replacements for my WinMo software, most of the time even surpassing in functionality and mostly for free or very little.
I already flashed back to WinMo, because. I forgot to deactivate CoPilot. Now using my WinMo licence on Android.
Boot is faster, comparable to stock phone, but needs to settle for a few minutes for max performance.
When I chose HD2, I chose it for WinMo, loving the possibility to experiment with Android. Now I am glad I can run Android from NAND.
My wife just got SonyEricson Xperia X10i. Sexy phone (in white). Very happy with Android.
Only disadvantages found on both phones is the missing integration for Exchange. There array a lot of (quite expensive) third party apps, but Google dropped a vital issue by not implementing exchange integration, especially notes and tasks to the Android calendar.
The third party software makes push mail and sending possible, but still separate from Android calendar and contacts. Fix that Google, and Android is A++, now just A.

Go to setting then account and sync, choose add new account then you'll are the possibility of adding exchange account.

Currently I am running desire HD which is Android 2.2

Using Moxier or touchdown, contacts end up in different db than Android db. Setting up two applications sending the same data is imo principally wrong. (nitpickin) Also for battery life having two sync costs more mA......
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Not sure to understand how you want to sync.
If exchange via Internet... I can't help.
If ou talk about software to sync with your laptop I just found a link (and again advertisement for my post )

If you use a sense build, HTC Sense is great (much better than the WM one).
Both solutions are free.

HTC green logo

Hi,
I very often get the HTC green and white logo on my phone. This may happen after installing apps or when exiting an application. The phone will then go back to the start screen and will reload the icons on the screen. This is now happening to my phone multiple times a day.
Is this a known issue and can I do anything about it?
Thanks,
Ben.

Please describe your problem in more detail.
Which ROM and kernel (if custom) are you using?
By 'HTC green and white logo' are you saying the phone reboots completely?
You may want to try backing up your apps and data (app, sms, settings, home screen settings, etc.) and doing a full wipe + reflash. Some ROMs are not so stable and reboots happen. They happen to me but not so often - probably average of once a week or less.
Also, make sure you check the checksum of the ROM you download and flash (md5, sha etc.)
Are you using a task-killer? If you are its killing HTC Sense. Also if you use the Spare Parts app, do not use the "aggressive" setting for memory management.

Hi,
thanks for the replies.
I'm using the stock ROM.
Kernal version 2.6.35.10
Build number 3.12.405.1
My phone doesnt do a full reboot, but it does feel like the HTC Sense is re-initialising. I'm not using any task killer or Spare Parts.
The green and white logo is the same screen as you would see when performing a full reboot.
Thanks,
Ben
Hmm, stock rom...
I would actually highly recommend rooting and installing a custom rom (even if its just leedroid or android revolution hd)
I only in the past few months rooted and I would definitely recommend it.
I found that the gingerbread update made my dhd way too slow to be usable and now use jellytime.
If you like the stock feel, Leedroid or Android Revolution are both great roms that make the stock rom very smooth and I would recommend them. If you want sense 4, there are plenty of roms (ICS roms) out there also.
If you don't want sense, jellytime, cyanogenmod, AOKP and other roms are all great.
If you want to stay un-rooted, I understand also. Have you installed any anti-virus or any apps that come with a task killer. They can mess up sense or even normal android os :S
If you are sure that none of the apps on their own are causing this, is your phone's memory nearly at it's full capacity. I had a similar issue (before rooting and custom roms) that I would get reboots when my phone's internal memory was nearly full and I had multiple high memory usage apps running.
If you are sure that you have 10% internal storage free, don't have loads of apps open and that you have no virus or anti-virus software and that you have some sd card space, I would take your phone to the manafacturer and ask them to fix it.
Hopefully one of these solutions will work for you. Good Luck!

Thanks,
I didnt have too much free memory so I've moved some apps to the memory card.
Hopefully this will sort it out.
Thanks,
