Screen going blank - G2 and Desire Z General

Sometimes the screen goes blank and is compleyely unresponsive, I have to pull the battery to get it to work again. Is this a common problem? I haven't seen much of this on these forums.

Happened to me this morning. Actively using phone then... nothing. Blank screen, no response to the power button. I also had to pull the battery to get it working again.
First time I've seen this in seven days of having the phone.

Ya'll overclocked?

Happen once but it was fue to a video on a web page and it froze the broswer then I got a phone call. And the screen just stayed black.
But like me said it only was that one time

Had it happen to me twice today, kind of annoying and not overclocked.

I haven't overclocked it yet. I'm kinda waiting for perm root before I start tinkering with that. This has happened to me twice so far.

Not overclocked either.

Came here to see if anyone else was having this problem.
It has happened to me about 3 times over the past couple weeks. Unresponsive, blank screen (powered off?), have to pull the battery before it will restart.
Stock G2

r the people with these daily problem temp rooted? Also maybe its ur apk you u have installed? Nut never know, I heard there is a few problems with first batch g2 just like all elec. things

Happened to me today as well. I wasn't running rooted at the time, and the TMo forums have people reporting this problem as well.
Unfortunately, at the time this happened, I didn't think to throw 'adb logcat' at it to see if the phone had stopped responding all together or it was some kind of hardware issue.

hmm weird, I was having a lot of issues when I OC to 1.42ghz, black screen, phone freezes, having to pull battery each time.. very annoying, so i just went back to 800mhz and it runs amazing

This has happen to me numerous times before i forced the ota update and i only got the problem once after the update I seem to get it most when i press the power button to turn the screen on it let me slide to unlock it but i shows a black screen and i can only see the notification bar at the top and it is totally unresponsive for a good 10 seconds untilli keep pushing the home button and eventually the black screen goes away for me
and i was oc to 1ghz before ota but not yet oc bak yet so it leads me to believe that the oc was not the issue because i got the same black screen with out being oc

After the update all the glitches went away. It has been running like a champ since.

when my screen goes blank I hold down the power button till Power Off Prompt comes up then hit back. It always fixes my blank screen

Are any of you using NoLED... Because I had that problem, and when I un-installed it, the problem went away

cyanogen 5.0.5.3 touch screen

is it normal that my touchscreen goes nuts sometimes? I find that sometimes (usually at night or first thing in the morning) my touchscreen on my n1 is inaccurate. I'll touch in the middle of the screen and it will click on something on the bottom of the screen. if I reboot my phone, the phone works great again.
yes its normal, its been posted here that even stock rom will get that problem now and then. Although mine has been random, not at a certain time.
Google is working on a software fix for it, and cyanogen 5053 (for my experience) has cut that problem to a minimum. I think ive experienced that problem 2 times since flashing. So a span of 3 weeks it happend twice. So i say its been pretty good.
And you dont need to reboot, just turn off the screen and turn it back on. Last i had a problem, i did that and it worked.
So as soon google fixes it im sure this board will be flooded with threads about it. And the devs are fast enough to implement it to their ROMS!
Are you holding it differently at those times? You mentioned at night or in the morning. Are you still in bed? I find I sometimes grip the phone is a way that my hand touches the edges of the screen. That throws off the touches and I've noticed it jumping down to a different icon at times. Just make sure your hand doesn't wrap around to the front of the screen.
My nexus one touchscreen will go nuts at times too. Locking the phone and unlocking does fix it though. I'm also 100% positive it has nothing to do with erroneous input from the way I'm holding it.
ya I was making sure that I wasn't holding it weird. hopefully Google makes a fix : )
p.s. thanks for the tip on turning off the screen rather than rebooting the device.
mine does this too but it seems that if I just put it to sleep and wipe it off it's back to normal

Mine too does this w/ cyanogen 5053. sometimes it's so bad that i cannot even unlock the phone. I never noticed it this bad before on stock... but then again i only used stock for about two weeks before i rooted it.

I'm on a non modded phone and I get it every once in a while. Hit the power button and all is well.

Vibrant Freezes and WIFI freezes?

So I've had the vibrant freeze on me about 3 or 4 times out of the 2-3 weeks I've had it so far. It's gone black with the bottom four buttons still lit but it wouldn't shut of via the power button or respond to any other buttons either. Also, one time it froze yesterday after I did a master reset through the factory reset option. This time it froze while I was trying to do a speed test, the screen stayed on in the speed test window but buttons were once again nonresponsive. I haven't replicated it yet though. I have to pull the battery to get it restarted.
Another issue I've experienced a couple of times is the wifi would freeze when I turn it off through the power widget (my normal method of toggling wifi). It says that wifi is turning off but it stays in that state and never actually does. The green light would dim on the power widget as though it's turning off but it sticks there and under wifi info it just says it's turning off. When this happen, wifi will neither turn on nor off and just becomes unresponsive. I have to restart the vibrant to get wifi back to normal.
Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on these problems?

has any solution been found for this ?? i have similar freezing issues with my vibrant .. i found one possible culprit listed on another site .. there is a way to disable the TeleNavGPS app (as you cannot uninstall) .. it is supposed that this interferes with the phone to the point of complete failure
Are you running stock 2.2 from Kies? I had exactly the same problems.

You could try backing up and doing an ODIN flash to KA6. I've had similar lockups with some builds in the past but they are fairly infrequent. Currently running stock KB1 rooted with KA6 radio and it has been smooth for a long while now.
I've tried some of the 2.2.1 Roms, but I absolutely need wifi calling so I stick with stock.

I have the same issue. On my second Vibrant running stock 2.2. About to send this one back for warranty as well. Mine will freeze from the lock screen, either stuck on the screen and the display stays on, or the screen wont come back on from idle.

Have you tried another ROM? I thought my phone was broken with stock 2.2. Haven't had issues with Bionix.

No other ROMs, I know there are a lot of good ones, but I shouldn't have to root my phone for it to work correctly. Within a week of this current Vibrant I was having these issues. I didn't purchase the Vibrant to flash ROMs, I bought it because of the specs to remain stock. On a side note..I was told after 3 warranty replacements within 90 days I will be able to get another phone from them.

Yeah, know what you mean. It is silly that stock is just broken. Hopefully the OTA will be better than the Kies release. (Are they doing an OTA?)
Maybe they'll swap for a Nexus S.

im rooted on android 2.2 but stock rom stock modem stock everything just root. i have had the same wif issue as the op. i just go to settings>wireless settings> wifsettings and turn on wifi that way. if you notice it will say error. 90% of the time this works and you will not have to reboot. i switch from wifi to 3g a lot. i have not figured the cause just yet but this is a work around for now.
as far as deleting the bloatware i rooted and deleted all that crap like sims, and other apps that i do not/will not ever use. there is a thread on which ones are safe to delete. be careful about deleting apps that are used by google such as google talk.
Unreal, Samsung. I wanted to sell my Vibrant, but can't get anywhere near what it's worth because of these stupid issues.

I'm having the same problems!!!
I am now on the 3rd replacement (that's the 4th T-Mobile's Samsung Vibrant 3G!!!) and still having problems.
My phone will just be sitting on my desk at work and I'll hear it buzz a couple times. I know that buzz. It's something "Force Closing" in the background. I will pick my phone up and it will be unresponsive. It will light up the 4 buttons on the bottom of the device, but nothing else. Normally, it will then immediately start rebooting. It will go through the usual start-up screens. It will then show the status bar at the top; battery life, alarm clock, signal, 3G/WiFi, Media Scanning progress. However, the rest of the screen will be black. It will then vibrate once, then 2 more times and do it all over. It repeats this at least once for around an hour EVERY DAY!!! Other times, it will not restart on it's own and I will have to hold down the power button to manually do so.
I have also gone through ALL the troubleshooting I can imagine. All logs, history, texts, cache... EVERYTHING... has been cleared.
Please forgive me for asking, but it appears that I am to possibly root my phone for a resolution... is this true?
Also, has anyone heard of this "3 Returns Within 90 Days" policy with T-Mobile? I could easily do this with this phone. Has anyone had any luck getting them to do that?

[Q] Random Shutdowns Post OTA

So i bought my G2 three days after launch and had none of the common issues until about a week before the OTA. I started experiencing the shutdowns at random and it slowly got more frequent (4 times a day). The OTA hit and i didnt have another shutdown for a week. Then one. Then two about three days later. Now its back to an everyday thing. Is there something i can do to fix it. Im not rooted and im not using any weird widgets or apps.
Is it rebooting or just shutting down and you have to press the power button to turn it back on? If its just shutting down and not rebooting then I think you might have a loose battery.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
Well, i hit the power button to wake up the screen and i get nothing. After a few seconds the white screen with the htc logo appears and the phone boots. I assume its shutdown cause it acts like its off. If it was a loose battery why would the OTA slow it down for a bit?
After the OTA (that was supposed to fix the random reboots/shutdowns), I had the same thing. About a week of none, and then they started again. Since I've perm-rooted, installed the BaconBits kernel and messed around with some Sense ROMs. Not one shutdown. I think T-Mobile's ROM build(s) for this phone just suck and that's the problem. Only on stock have I had the issue.
Yea I'm Experiencing the same issue. I Upgrade the OTA about three weeks ago and now out of know where it randomly turns off it doesn't shut OFF , it just turns off and then i have to take the battery out and reboot it all over again? Any Suggestions?

[Q] Phone Turning off

Hi guys its been 2 weeks with my Tmobile G2 now and having a problem/issue with it. It happened twice since owning, somehow the phone when I take it out of my pocket it shuts itself off and when I try to turn it back on via power button it doesnt turn back on. Only way is to remove the battery and it turns on again. It has full battery with stock rom from tmobile. Anybody else having this problem?
Somebody just asked this same question. See my response (post 5) on the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908095
I had the same problem with my replacement G2. It happened once when I dropped the phone after they sent it to me about a month ago. Then again this morning I woke up and the phone was dead, won't charge had to take the otterbox off and pull the battery and reinsert it then everything was fine and the battery had 42% life left.

You need to RMA your phone, mine was doing something sorta similar, but it would turn back on when you hit the power button. It was really annoying actually, because I'd pull my phone out, tap the power button to wake it, only to be greeted with the HTC screen and the realization that for however long, my family might have been trying to call me.
A phone that randomly turns off is as good as garbage to me, apparently it's tied to GPS stuff sometimes.
Just curious, what build are you running on the device? If you're stock tmo, this was a known issue htc had identified and resolved with the OTA to build 1.22.531.8, if you're not on that build, there's a good chance that's you're reason.

AT&T: Hardware Failing?

Hey guys,
So I was on PowerUser 2.0. For months I was fine but it started going nuts yesterday when I woke up. I somehow managed to get it back to stock JellyBean but there are still the same issues.
What is happening:
I can get the phone to start. Sometimes it goes through the LG screen multiple times, though. It usually freezes up 2-5 minutes after startup and just restarts. If the screen turns off it's even more likely to be frozen. This is more like the black screen of death -- can't get it to turn back on but the phone is still "on."
Then I have to hard reset it and go from there and rinse repeat.
Is this the hardware failing? Any ideas for what to do?
Adding on to this. The led is blinking in a weird pattern when the screen is off(not when it fails to wake up but just in general). I'm able to use it for hours at a time now but I think it may have something to do with heavy use or it heating up. Just seems weird that it is still functional and everything seems fine it just seems like I can't get the display to come back on. I'm relatively sure the phone is fine behind scenes but then again a lot of the freeze ups come with the phone on and the whole screen just won't react then it restarts on its own
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No ideas?
So I can get it to work generally if I just keep using it. If it heats up it seems to restart a lot. If it does start restarting I generally have to hold the power until it is fully off to restart it or it just loops the LG logo.
There's times when it goes hours between restarts, and then times it does it every ten minutes. I really think over heating has something to do with it, but I have no idea for sure.
I can't seem to find anything like it online
So I'm using a loaner phone and am letting the battery run out on the g2. It hasn't shut down once when I'm not using it. So like 3 days of uptime.
Does that help anyone with maybe pining down what's up?
