Debranding, flashing original rom? - Wildfire General

Hello,
I know it must have been asked many times but I couldn't find it, neither with google nor with the forum search.
I'm from holland and I've got a wildfire with firmware from a german telephone company.
I'd like to put original android firmware on my phone (or original htc).
I've read it can be done by downloading a RUU and just run in windows with the phone attached, or it can be done by manually flashing the phone's memory.
What are the differences?
But do I have to root the wildfire first etc?
There must be a clear guide somewhere on this website.
Thanks a lot,
RT.

I have a great guide for debranding your wildfire

This is easy to understand and you can find all needed files there

Question about unroot

Hello. In case i'm interested on Unrooting the phone and installing the Original Rom wich came with my phone, in orther to update it (in case there is an interesting rom update) , do i have to do something special? Or can i run the exe update directly from the HTC site it'll unroot and restore everything as it was before with perfect SPL etc? Thanks
You shouldn't need to do anything else, just do what it says on the HTC website. I did it 2 times without any problems.

Preparing for 2.1

Hi chaps,
I have Orange UK branded Hero.
If HTC are going to update unbranded phones over the air prior to branded phones, what can I do to unbrand my phone?
All good fun.
Can you please write this in another thread? No wait, you've done that already.
Aside from comments like that one above (I will leave them to others to do )
You will need to root your device and/or use a goldcard to trick the phone into installing a generic software.
However I believe they will probably OTA the version out based on serial number, if this is the case then I don't think we can do anything to "trick" it.
All I can suggest if what I latterly said is true would be to root and then install a pre-rooted version which will be out about 10 mins after the official thing.
Thanks Lenny.
I will search a 'how to' on rooting.
hi lenny,
just to let you know mate I have had to root my phone, as I don't see them rolling the update out anytime soon.
to be honest I am glad I have as I can now update on the move and try all the different Rom's out there.
I am using a modaco ROM its as close as I find to stock without all the bull that orange bundle.
I understand that again modaco will do the same thing for 2.1
hope you manage to get it sorted,
Chris.

[REQUEST] Bell Desire Z ROM version 1.34.666.5

Edit: "Rom Development" is only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here. Moved thread to "General." Please refer to "[REF] STOP! Read before posting!" ~TheRomMistress
I was wondering if anyone could post the ROM for this version? The other one in this forum isn't the exact same number, so I was just wondering if someone has the .5 version for warranty purposes.
Thanks!
I'm looking at the same version. Unrooted. Anyone got that?
Link to all shipped ROMS
My phone does ship with this rom..and it's unrooted as well.. but I just join the forum today and have no clue how to extract/backup the rom out..if you guy can give me a bit guide though( for example what post to follow) then I can get it out and send it over to you... And does any of you guys know if my phone need to be downgraded if I want to root it? (the guide say firmware version higher than 1.34 need to be downgrade, does my desire Z need to go through that if I want to root it?)

I also have the HTC Desire Z with the same software number 1.34.666.5 and want to root it. I'm not sure if I need to downgrade also before rooting as I do not know enough about putting fastboot on the phone to find out the CID. putting adb isn't so hard. is it possible to just ignore checking the CID and just going the creation of a goldcard to downgrade? If I dont have to downgrade, then it makes things a lot easier.

You dont need to downgrade. 1.34 is froyo, just follow the wiki

I thought 1.34.000 and lower was the requirement. I definitely have froyo on the phone.

According to the Wiki, 1.72 and up require downgrade.
I followed the wiki and successfully rooted my phone to have S off, have Super CID and have simlock off plus have clockwork recovery installed from rom 1.34.666.5 just like ptesmoke
At the end of the guide, it says, "You can delete the files in /data/local/tmp they are not needed anymore. " How do I go about doing this? is it done in ADB? I don't know the commands for it and I don't see this directory on the SDcard. I assume this is in the internal memory of the phone?

Yup you can delete it, I usually use root explorer to do all my stuff dealing with the phones internal mem. It is the phones storage, not your sdcard. If you don't wanna pay for root explorer I think I've heard es file manager handles root directories fine and is free
Glad you got er all rooted welcome to the club

1.34.666.5
I am having a hard time finding the 1.34.666.5 rom. I was running cm9 on my Desire Z, but due to company policy, I had to unroot the phone. I got the 1.34.666.1 rom from shipped-roms, and the phone is back to froyo, but apparently need the 1.34.666.5 rom to be able to upgrade to gingerbread. I have searched everywhere for a download, but can't find anything but the .1 rom... Is there any way to upgrade from 1. to the official gingerbread update from HTC?

Debrand HTC Wildfire with Vodafone Froyo ROM

Hello,
I'm used to debrand and flash Sony Ericsson devices, but my girlfriend has a HTC wildfire and I'm kind of confused with the debranding...
I found unrevoked3 and wanted to use it, but I don't even get to the part were I should install the android 1.0 drivers, since the pc ıs only asking my for adb-drivers. Does HTC have different then Sony Ericsson? Which one shall I take?
Also I always found manuals about using a goldcard, but these are supposed to be outdated?
Also I'm not able to find an original firmware... I only find RUN exe files. Can someone tell me if it ıs possible to flash original firmware through clockwork mod and maybe give me a link?
I would really appreciate if you guys could help me!
THANK YOU!
Linkin
Look at my guide. It gives you all the files, and is a very simple and easy to use guide.

Thank you for your answer. I have 2 further questions though:
1) Do I really still need the goldcard (thought this was old school^^)?
2) I still dont know how to flash an original firmware AND WHICH FIRMWARE I SHALL TAKE? Can someone please help me with this?

There is a guide on downgrading the phone to an Unbranded WWE ROM here. This will erase all data(including Recovery, everything), but will downgrade you to a Universal ROM with no network branding, as well as HBOOT 1.00.001.
Goldcard? YES. A guide for the same is in the link, follow it to the letter and there will be no problems.

Thank you very much! I'm going to try it tomorrow ;-)
One more question though: can someone tell me where to get the newest RUU file? Update via htc sync?

The step2.bat in the guide is the rom itself. But if you still need a link, it is here. That is the same RUU used in Step2.
worked like a charm! Thank you again!
Do you see any easy way to root the phone now?
Gingerbreak and Superoneclick didnt work :/
edit: never mind, I post it below

You should be able to use revolutionary but...........
Read the first post, I know its a lot but there's everything you'll need in there.

thank you, I found that way but since it is not my phone, i dont want to s-off it
Anyway, my girlfriend don't need root that much, so I guess I will just leave it here and reinstall here software manually!
Thank you everyone for your help and support!
*edit:
if someone finds a way to root phone without S-OFF: your idea is welcome
In that case, you will have to go through HTC DEV to unlock the bootloader, which is a FAR more cumbersome process IMO. Anyway, upto you really. Otherwise, rooting without S-OFF is not possible on Froyo.
Thank you for that answer. I will look into it... At the moment my girlfriend is happy with the Rom I gave her... But I think about cyanogenmod might be faster (phonepad input on Frodo is really slow...)? We will see :-/

desire z complete format and unlock

Hy, I'm sorry if there is a similar post but I couldn't find one yet.
I have a desire z with updated android 2.42, my question is can I somehow completely format my device and install a fresh copy of android on it and how????????
Also the phone is locked to a local carrier so if anyone knows how to unlock it I would be really grateful.
Thanks.
Really thanks.
P.S. the reason that I'm doing it is that the phone acts funny in lots of situations. All of those might not be because of the os itself but still I'm really keen on doing it just to be comfortable enough so I would know that I've tried everything in my power to help it. ((
google search either
xda wiki vision root
or
cyanogen wiki root g2
or something similar, google can be your friend

You only need to do a factory reset, if you want a “fresh copy of android“.
If you want to remove the SIM lock, you need to root (and s-off) your phone (demkantor has already told you how). But judging by your posts, I don’t recommend you to do that

thanks dude, does s-off mean that simlock is off or...????
soff is security off, so you can flash through bootloader. if you follow the xda wiki guide to root/soff you phone at the end there is an option to sim unlock
