Hi, I've had a Hermes running WM5 for a while until I got fed up with the usual crashes and some other performance issues. A few days ago I installed WM6 and though it has some interesting new features it's still a little bit heavy and I'd rather have better performance than a pretty interface.
Can someone recommend some good ROMs or alternative OSs for the Hermes? Maybe some tweaks to improve speed... For example: it takes way to long to load the contact list or show who's calling when a call comes in.
I've been waiting for Ubuntu Mobile and/or Android to come out but apparently those will take some more time...
If you are running a stock rom thats probably you're problem. They are full of "Bloat" apps for your carrier. First thing is (if you're not sure its unlocked) unlock your Hermes with the unlocker v3a on the upgrading thread. Then Hard SPL your Phone on the same forum - Hard SPL, or how not to brick your hermes (this will void warranty) and then pick a lite rom or rom you like off the forum. I personally like PDAViets roms as they are VERY fast. If you aren't used to flashing and want stability look at the wm6 roms and not the wm6.1 roms as there are issues being reported by others...
Cheers....
Thanks, I actually flashed the device a few days ago with WM6 Black 3.0 or something like that... It's kinda heavy
I did the HardSPL upgrade before flashing and all went ok. What I haven't done is upgrading the radio. What's the object of upgrading that?
Anyway, I'll give PDAViets a shot!
The black roms are fairly old now and I haven't seen any in developement. Would try either schaps, pays, Binky11, CRC's, PDA corner...... the list goes on. As I said, I tend to favour PDAViet.
As for the radio, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". This is the part of rom upgrading that produces the most bricks... If you find no problem with your radio, its advisable to leave it alone. Changing to the latest ISN'T always the best as they tend to be better or worse depending on your carrier. If you can see what the latest radio rom is that your carrier is using you MIGHT upgrade to that BUT try not to flash this too often... You have been warned.....
Have fun and happy upgrading...
Cheers...

Why there is no sticky post, which contain in its first message, all the latest versions of all the ROMs available in the forum ?
It can be updated from time to time, and always contain the latest versions of all the roms available in the forum.
if there's allot of maintaince to do, at least it can contain links to posts, which the ROM owner can update.
If there's already such a post, I'd be very happy to get the link...
Most of the roms on the site are in developement. They are made by people who are curiose to see what they can do and who may have a certain need from their os. They are nice enough to share their hard work with the rest of the community and for this we thank them profusely...
The only way you can be sure of finding the rom you want is to keep your eyes peeled on the "Hermes wm6" part of the forum. Find out who makes the roms you like then do a search for those.. They're ALL floating around here somewhere...
Cheers....
Hi all,
as the title says i'm totally new here with my 6 months old HTC HD2. Reason for participating XDA is the need to learn something about this phone. My former phone, the TYTN2 was a nice one. The HD2 isn't that great in my opinion. Well not yet i hope
Anothere reason is trying to get Android working on the phone. Tried is last night and didn't work out. Both eclair and froyo. Been reading for hours about radio roms etc etc and now..... i'm lost
Regards from Holland!
It will take you a while, but reading through the threads yourself is always better than having people show you what to do. I had my hd2 for about 3 months before I decided to change the rom on it. I've now got the Energyrom.
There are no specific or best ROM and radio combinations, it just depends which is best for you through trial and error. Just make sure you read all the instructions carefully, otherwise you will end up bricking your phone.
As for Android, it's only an alpha release. So it won't always work for everyone, you'll just have to be patient until a more stable version has been made.
Morning Dave,
you're right there. I know first reading the forum and try it yourself. Tried it till 1:30am this morning and read about the radio roms. Then my brain got overloaded and went to bed
Thought it was easy to do (regarding the Youtube i saw) but i'll have to wait, read and study more....
Manilla 2.5.19202525.0
ROM 1.43.404.1 (70124) NLD
Radio 2.04.50.22
It can be straight forward, it's just the first hurdle of installing hspl, new radio then the new rom. After you've done the first one, you'll have no problems changing to other custom roms.
hey if you aren't using it yet,
i want to invate you to tweakers.net http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1412242/last
her you can talk in NEDERLANDS.
for questions about your phone
go to you tube and search for how to instal hd2 roms and youll pretty much get this forum
How can you even compare the TYTN2(Kaiser) to the HD2(Leo)? The Hd2 is eons beyond the Kaiser. I had the ATT Tilt version of the TYTN2 and now the Hd2. I've also experimented with cooked roms via XDA for both devices. Take the time to explore custom roms for your HD2 and you will see the real capability of this device. I would also look into the android port for the HD2. It is now at a usable stage and expands the use of the phone by a large margin.
should we all pick a specific winmo build and radio and test our android builds on it?
that way we can pinpoint the issues easier.
because as of now theres about a dozen different winmo builds running under android and the whole ****load of issues were having with android gets blamed on different radio and winmo builds.
can we kinda get our sht together( the users not the developers and cooks) and participate a lil more in this? at least by submitting productive reviews of the android build we use.
and having same exact winmo build and radio would im sure help alot in tracking down the problems that we re having.
i mean does it take alot to agree on one winmo build at least untill android is able to boot itsself up without winmo.
because as everyone can see,
even though the cooks claim to have no problems, we still get problems with pretty much everything, happening on random phones, and im assuming part of the reason is using different winmo builds.
i agree. there are many good winmo builds. and a great number of them run flawlessly with android. however its always a good idea to run what the developer is running. as i have been using the 'standard' energy build with 2.12.50 and have still been encountering strange issues like settings not being present on my phone (froyostone)
id personally like to hear what the developers think is the best winmo base rom.
and have everyone who wishes to run android and participate in bug reporting etc. to switch over to the chosen winmo rom.
would make life easier. +1 to the OP
I pretty much keep quiet in these forums but think this is a great idea. I'm using radio 2.12.50.02_2 which I've found as best and Elegencia V2.0 Final WWE rom.
Maybe we can force some sort of format to be used when stating an issue? Region, carrier, WinMo rom and version, settings changed, Android build? Maybe we should vote on a main rom for WinMo ment just for Android, with an active chef, that way we can iron out the bugs.
a group effort would help alot i think, since we all technically testing the builds we might as well be a bit more organized as HD2 users since it would benefit all of us by speeding up the android development.
i havent been diggin thru this phone long enough to know the whole system, maybe one of the cooks or few cooks can get together and bake an apropriate android winmo rom so we can all use it as a reference.
since most of android users/ testers run android daily without going to windows much i dont think anyone would suffer from running a stripped winmo build.
and once the robot can breathe on its own we can then focus on stability with different winmo builds, if that would be needed at all.
that involves cooks as well, i know you guys are running your own builds and all
but it would be a lil harder for us users to switch winmo builds for every different version of android that is coming out, because theres a new andy build almost every day.
if we could pick one and update it when needed????
well i see there are couple roms that are made for android,
i personally been using chunkyrom for all my androids
and seen alot of them beeing used as well.
can someone list the roms so i can make a poll
As stated earlier, just follow the setup the developer is using and you minimise any issues.
Personally I think a specific rom will be useful in trouble shooting.
But personally I cant stand most of the winmo rom's I dont use it very often but Incase something isnt working I need a rom that i can switch to and everything works.
I've tried chucky ive tried miri and both didnt work out. Honestly I am more versed in android than I am in winmo. So when I had problems with data connection Id revert back to energy.
So id have to vote for any energy based rom with working tethering!
Sorry, I dont think this is ever gonna work. I use my own WM ROM that I cooked myself, it has been stable for the last 6 months and I really cont be bothered faffing around changing the rom as it is exactly how I like it. The hardcore flashers may just about go with this but I actually have to use winmo quite heavily for work.
I have played about with the radio but still prefer the old 2.08 because it works best for me on my carrier where I live, but for someone else a different radio will be better for them. See where I am going with this?
I don't think it'd be a good idea, personally. One of the things I love about these android builds, and the wm roms, is the available choices. (But I also love tinkering with things, so it could just be a personal preference.)

Same for me, Energy roms are the only winmo rom's that I haven't had issues with so I vote for energy based roms.
you guys dont understand, nobody is forcing you to stay with one,
all im sayig is to pick one while the android is in development stage, that way we know that the problems are coming from android and not winmo build since we use same build, or how about 3 builds that we can pick and stick to it untill we get android on main memory working, then you can all go back to any winmo build,
if you dont want to participate like i said nobody is forcing you , im simply suggesting this in hopes of speeding up the development since with same build we can actually trace the problems easier than having 30 random problems with different builds that are not even related to android.
so far i ve seen alot of chunky roms and energy roms used with android.
is there another popular roms there so i can list them in the poll
+1 .... Energy barebone for use andriod as an everyday OS radio 2.12.50

This could be problematic when you consider that the ROMS being developed on are made for different phones, different version of WinMo, and different carriers. Each variation has the potential to change the quality of the outcome.
How about this instead. The cook develops the A-ROM on whatever W-ROM meets the cooks requirements and releases it. The cooks part is done. People can either use it or wait until a test group tests it against a base W-ROM.
For those who want testing before using an A-ROM, then a stripped down base W-ROM can be developed in minimal variations (device, OS, carrier) for the end users to test against.
This way cooks get what they want, bleeding edge users get what they want and those less willing to chance a balky phone get what they want.
I'm all for standardizing, but trying to limit a cooks options is not the way to go. In fact, it totally defeats the whole purpose of what they are doing.
some input from developers would be of great help. since they know more about the workings of the systems.
im just assuming that this might help.
if it would great im willing to use a single rom for all my andro builds since i dont ever go back there( like dos)
a good example would be battery life.
im running the new Nexus One Android 2.2 Build FRG33
and today my battery went down by only 1/4th all day in standby,
then another user reports that his battery leaks out like water.
Hey all I just got my HD2 device n I'm liking WinMo but I'm wondering if or not to try out Android as I had it on my G1 and really enjoyed it. My questions are
1. Is it worth changing to Android from WinMo?
2. What is the most stable build to download?
(I've come across a link with a build that sounds promising LINK)
3. If anything were to go wrong how would I sort it out, e.g. Bricked?
4. Is HSPL required for the change?
and finally
5. If you use Android on your HD2, is it better then using WinMo?
Thanks
Scotty
You not going to remove winmo. Android only runs off SD currently so no chance there of bricking. The build is a person choice, depends on what you like. It's reported that it has issues with the stock winmo Rom. I think it kicks winmos a$$ all over the place.

i just agree with squish .. and + that we are waiting for the NAND android roms

In the spirit of being nice I will provide some decent answers. I must say though that this is a question that has been asked many times.
Is it worth changing? To me It was worth changing. It was what I intended on doing. I dont like winmo I dont need it for professional reasons.
As far as most stable build there is none that is most stable. You will read people say this and that one is the fastest or most stable. I personally use shubcraft 1.5 and I have tried all others and "always" return to shubcraft 1.5
Hspl is only required if you have something less than radio 2.08 or you are getting robotic voices and you need to change the rom.
I am using android on my phone as a daily driver. I for one enjoy tormenting Hd2 owners who complain about their phone locking up. Is it better than winmo? I think so but like i stated before I dont like winmo so I am bias.
A little background: I have been flashing other phones for over a year with no problems, so I normally can find my way around these things. The HD2, however, has proven a bit more confusing because of the tmous (mine) Vs international version. I have been doing a lot of research so far. Each day, however, I find reports of bricking (some unfounded, some terrifyingly real), I need some advice from my more seasoned fellow XDers.
Here is my scenario: I bought a T-Mo (US) HD2 to use as a tablet, mainly since I have a Sprint TP2 I intend to continue to use for the moment. This means that I am only using WIFI data. I have been using Android SD ROMs successfully, and they run smoothly. This is the extent of my progress so far.
Here is what I want to do: Flash WP7 and continue to use Android on SD. Should WP7 totally suck, I want to try NAND versions of Android not available on SD.
My concern is that some tools are appropriate for my handset, some are not. Of the former, some are not appropriate for WP7, some are not. I am not too worried about bricking the device since I'm not flashing WinMo ROMs on this one. However, I don't know if I HAVE to flash a radio as prescribed in many threads, since I'm only using WIFI. I have read about issues flashing wrong radios and screwing up a perfectly good device. Lastly, has anyone heard of a ROM for an HD2-as-tablet? I'm sure I'm not the only one needing this!
Your advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
P.S. I am familiar with the super-awesome noob guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614, and found it very helpful. I'm just making sure I know what I need to know before I take the plunge.
TMOUS HD2 takes XX.XX.50 radios, Flashing a XX.XX.51 is a sure way to brick. however a brick does not mean the phone is trash there are a few guys on Ebay that can fix it using JTAG pretty cheap. Read the stickeys they are how I got started. The radio is the big thing though other than that this phone is really forgiving. especially after loading HSPL and MAGLDR!
As above the wrong radio is the only real sure fire danger, which boils down to "never ever flash any stock rom except tmous stock roms" (or 51 radios, or 2.04.50 and 2.05.50 which also act like 51 radios.)
Its easy to avoid, since all tmous phones naturally come with a ..50.. radio that works with magldr and such, so no,there is no need for you to flash a radio, you can skip that step.
Thank you I was not aware of those two radios, I immediately went to my little archive I have built up over time to make sure I didn't have those since I have been going back through my radios lately to see if I can get better reception in my house. Luckily those weren't in there.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
you should also probably avoid 2.06.50 too, , without digging through the threads im not sure ive got it right with 2.4 and 2.5, it may be 2.5 and 2.6, since they are the two that come with the very first tmous test roms ( the first two links in the 'tmous stock and test roms' thread)
The first tmous shipped phones came with radio 2.08.50 so i see no reason why anyone would wanna go lower than that.
Thanks to you both. I think I will give NAND a try this week. Now I feel more confident I will not cause more headache than it's worth.
I really like the HD2!
