Hi all,
as the title says i'm totally new here with my 6 months old HTC HD2. Reason for participating XDA is the need to learn something about this phone. My former phone, the TYTN2 was a nice one. The HD2 isn't that great in my opinion. Well not yet i hope
Anothere reason is trying to get Android working on the phone. Tried is last night and didn't work out. Both eclair and froyo. Been reading for hours about radio roms etc etc and now..... i'm lost
Regards from Holland!
It will take you a while, but reading through the threads yourself is always better than having people show you what to do. I had my hd2 for about 3 months before I decided to change the rom on it. I've now got the Energyrom.
There are no specific or best ROM and radio combinations, it just depends which is best for you through trial and error. Just make sure you read all the instructions carefully, otherwise you will end up bricking your phone.
As for Android, it's only an alpha release. So it won't always work for everyone, you'll just have to be patient until a more stable version has been made.
Morning Dave,
you're right there. I know first reading the forum and try it yourself. Tried it till 1:30am this morning and read about the radio roms. Then my brain got overloaded and went to bed
Thought it was easy to do (regarding the Youtube i saw) but i'll have to wait, read and study more....
Manilla 2.5.19202525.0
ROM 1.43.404.1 (70124) NLD
Radio 2.04.50.22
It can be straight forward, it's just the first hurdle of installing hspl, new radio then the new rom. After you've done the first one, you'll have no problems changing to other custom roms.
hey if you aren't using it yet,
i want to invate you to tweakers.net http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1412242/last
her you can talk in NEDERLANDS.
for questions about your phone
go to you tube and search for how to instal hd2 roms and youll pretty much get this forum
How can you even compare the TYTN2(Kaiser) to the HD2(Leo)? The Hd2 is eons beyond the Kaiser. I had the ATT Tilt version of the TYTN2 and now the Hd2. I've also experimented with cooked roms via XDA for both devices. Take the time to explore custom roms for your HD2 and you will see the real capability of this device. I would also look into the android port for the HD2. It is now at a usable stage and expands the use of the phone by a large margin.

Ok everyone, I have never posted before but I have been around for a little while (still consider myself noobish though)
I have been doing tons of research since the official rom upgrade has come out. I have to admit though I am more confused then ever.
Here is my problem, my wife and I both have the titan. About a mouth ago I upgraded both of ours to the dcd 2.1.0 (12/05/07) to unlock the gps and get rid of the sprint crap. I have to admit I fell in love with this version. Last night I installed the official htc 3.35.651.2 rom on my phone...I am NOT in love with it. Last night and all day today I have been searching for a replacement. Here is the source of my problem. There is so much development and creativity that people put into these phones (and the titan in particular) but is there no central place to compare and rate different roms? I was hoping to find a page that listed the top roms and the differences between them (and the official ones) but that does not seem to exist. There are several roms out there that look promising but sort of spending the rest of the day loading and testing them all I am at a loss.
If anyone knows of a great site or page that does what I have been looking for please let me know. If anyone has a suggestion to which rom I should go with I welcome your input. To that end, below are a few of the things I loved about the dcd version.
1) no extra sprint crap programs
2) working task manager (I just dont like the one on the official rom)
3) text messaging in a chat window set up. Unlike the email like set up in the official versions (I dont know if that makes sense)
4)Full Comm Manager (included more options)
Last item I would like to bring up, much has been made of EV-DO Rev.A. Do any of the custom roms incorporate this? It in its self is not a deal breaker for me, after testing load times on my phone vs my wife’s...Im not impressed but I would like it if possible.
Thanks everyone in advance. I have never posed before because I could always just find the answer if I looked long enough but in this case there is just way to much stuff out there...the curse and blessing of owning a titan
Thanks again

So far the only rom's for the Titan I know of is DCDs, Keys and NexsHybrid. Rev.A is not incorporated into the roms itself, but the radio. as long as you have the radio 3.35 you are fine. since you are a fan of dcd, i would suggest you try his new 3.0.1 rom. since you already upgraded with the official sprint rom, you have the new 3.35 radio (assuming) and all you need to do is flash a new rom on top of that.

Hi, I've had a Hermes running WM5 for a while until I got fed up with the usual crashes and some other performance issues. A few days ago I installed WM6 and though it has some interesting new features it's still a little bit heavy and I'd rather have better performance than a pretty interface.
Can someone recommend some good ROMs or alternative OSs for the Hermes? Maybe some tweaks to improve speed... For example: it takes way to long to load the contact list or show who's calling when a call comes in.
I've been waiting for Ubuntu Mobile and/or Android to come out but apparently those will take some more time...
If you are running a stock rom thats probably you're problem. They are full of "Bloat" apps for your carrier. First thing is (if you're not sure its unlocked) unlock your Hermes with the unlocker v3a on the upgrading thread. Then Hard SPL your Phone on the same forum - Hard SPL, or how not to brick your hermes (this will void warranty) and then pick a lite rom or rom you like off the forum. I personally like PDAViets roms as they are VERY fast. If you aren't used to flashing and want stability look at the wm6 roms and not the wm6.1 roms as there are issues being reported by others...
Cheers....
Thanks, I actually flashed the device a few days ago with WM6 Black 3.0 or something like that... It's kinda heavy
I did the HardSPL upgrade before flashing and all went ok. What I haven't done is upgrading the radio. What's the object of upgrading that?
Anyway, I'll give PDAViets a shot!
The black roms are fairly old now and I haven't seen any in developement. Would try either schaps, pays, Binky11, CRC's, PDA corner...... the list goes on. As I said, I tend to favour PDAViet.
As for the radio, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". This is the part of rom upgrading that produces the most bricks... If you find no problem with your radio, its advisable to leave it alone. Changing to the latest ISN'T always the best as they tend to be better or worse depending on your carrier. If you can see what the latest radio rom is that your carrier is using you MIGHT upgrade to that BUT try not to flash this too often... You have been warned.....
Have fun and happy upgrading...
Cheers...

Why there is no sticky post, which contain in its first message, all the latest versions of all the ROMs available in the forum ?
It can be updated from time to time, and always contain the latest versions of all the roms available in the forum.
if there's allot of maintaince to do, at least it can contain links to posts, which the ROM owner can update.
If there's already such a post, I'd be very happy to get the link...
Most of the roms on the site are in developement. They are made by people who are curiose to see what they can do and who may have a certain need from their os. They are nice enough to share their hard work with the rest of the community and for this we thank them profusely...
The only way you can be sure of finding the rom you want is to keep your eyes peeled on the "Hermes wm6" part of the forum. Find out who makes the roms you like then do a search for those.. They're ALL floating around here somewhere...
Cheers....
Be Honest- Serious Question !
we are all like a one global family participatig in various topics from basic to an advanced level and we should be very happy and accept the fact that atleast on this matter we all try and thrieve to help one another as well as nicely rebuke anyone not doing the groung work before asking any question.
Its all well an good.
Now the more serious matter and please be honest. I will make a start by admitting that ever since I bought Android phone, I ended up spending more time flashing roms after rom and radios and what nowt! My life partner also noticed that I am spendig more time hooking that phone to bloody computer than actually putting up to me ear. She thought phone was more dear to me!
What does your partner think? We might have to srart councelling services for the worse ones!
I'm single, so no problem. : D
But, I don't think I'll be flashing my Hero often. I'm starting to appreciate actually using the phone rather than updating it all the time.
no problem here ...
I flashed my Hero twice, the new Stock ROM and last week the new radio ... and I'm very happy with how it works.
Flashing on a daîly or weekle basis is something for freaks, who like to play. I've different playgrounds
Next time I flash will be Android 2.0 from HTC, until then I use it as a phone and enjoy all the nice apps
P.S. My favorite: OruxMaps, now with Geocaching features
My girl simply loves my hero, first of all she loves playing with it lol
No but with my previous phone (htc diamond) I changed roms more often because it simply didn't work as good as my hero. Als I had a lot more problems
with programs making a hard reset the only way out.
The only update I did was the oficial rom update, don't see the needfor a custom rom (not saying those are wrong or something, kudos to the people who cook them!)
So to be honest; I had my diamond connected to my pc far more often then my hero does. And when bluetooth is fully supported I don't see any need to connect it to
the pc.
I bought the Wife a Hero as well.
I do the experimenting and she gets to share the positives.
To be honest, I only did a couple of ROM updates and was happy with it. Once I found out that HTC are going to be shipping a 2.0 sooner or later, I just can't be bothered...
Zuber
Using my Hero out of the box and the only update I did was the official 2.73 update. It's nice having something that "Just works" after spending a difficult year with the Diamond.
To be honest.... I came from a diamond too. With that said I flash a lot at first with it, but then I found a good Rom that worked. After that I got involved in the Android diamond port. And since I was a cdma user. Let's just say I spent more time in emulators, compiling and telnet then using the phone. Now I got a hero and everything works. I spent the first week on irc tryin to get it root. Now its root and I couldn't ask for more then 2.0.
Back to the subject though. My wife I believe likes my hero. I only fiddle with apps mostly now. She knows I love my phone and I know she's jealous of my phone. But only cuz she's stuck with an LG dare on Verizon.
My Wife thinks I am addicted to mobiles????? ................ ok I think I am too.
I have been happish on the official HTC ROM until a few days ago when I finally broke and rooted and flashed a cooked ROM to solve the Bluetooth issues I had.
Now its a dream and I wont flash it again until the official HTC 2.0.
Before I had a Diamond and an X1 and yes my wife was getting very frustrated that once a week a least I would lose an entire night or day of a weekend flashing and the setting up the phone again.
iPhone sorted that out but I got bored of the lack of customisation so off I went again to Android.
At least now I only rebuild once every few months so she is happer!
Russ
In my experience, I had my last phone hooked up to the computer a lot more (HTC Touch/Vogue.) I imagine this has to do with the closed nature of Windows vs the open nature of Android. Android is a lot easier for a ROM cook to work with, I would imagine. Also, the flashing process itself is far easier on the Hero, once it's rooted. At least IMO.
More topic specific, my gf has no problem with my phone addictedness as I mostly geek around with it while I'm at work.
hardly surprising responses from everyone! only a phone-o-phile would regularily visit a discussion forum about phones...
and yes my missus is constantly referring to my phone as my mistress. it almost always shares the bed with us and is the last thing I look at before I fall asleep...
All my previous WM units took a LOT of time.
But my Hero just works - all standard (rooted though), and upgraded of course.
No need to flash anything here
Not got my Hero yet, but my gf has been complaining that im 'obsessing' over it... but it should now be at home waiting for me when i get in today YEAY!
when i first got it, i spent loads of time flashing it, but now ive found a decent rom and radio that gives good batt life and reception, im happy
the next time ill flas it will be with the 2.0 hero rom.
you just need to find a rom that youre happy with
Man i got my Hero around 1 week ago and i have not stopped playing with it since, i flashed the Modaco rom, but after a couple of days flashed back to the most recent stock rom, due to problems with the gsensor. I have rooted he phone and i now spend most of my time installing apps!
I just cant put the Hero down!
Looking like NRG has dropped the ball on the TMOUS Version Rom, because i don`t see the thread anymore.
It is kind of good because his roms are getting too usual and bringing nothing new
Energy rom
I still like his rom though
I asked the same question. His rom can be found in the standard HD2 thread, he does have TMOUS specific version still. Maybe he isn't going to continue with that ??
As long as it is still TMOUS compatible it may not NEED to be in this forum but I think it might be better since the separation keeps things clearer (less chance of costly mistakes). However, while I enjoyed his ROMs on the Touch Pro2 I found that the focus seems to be entirely on modifying HTC Sense. The ROMs have become a bit more bug ridden as well. On the HD2 I couldn't even use the dialer as it disappeared constantly. It might be just as well that the ROM isn't listed :/
NRGZ is the man! Im on the latest NRGZ release and its been working almost perfectly for me so far.
He said recently that there will no longer be a TombileUS specific ROM anymore since the ONLY difference between it and his other HD2 ROMs are the tmobile apps, which can easily be installed via .cabs.
He's no longer making TMoUS-specific ROMs, but you can just install his standard HD2 ROMs and get whatever TMoUS CABs you need from here:

Question answered! Closing thread
Hey guys,
As an Ex-iphone user, i loved too playing around with photo applics that add effects to pictures, i.e. vintage look, polaroid etc... Can you recommend on any applications for HD2 of the same nature?
I have found VintagePic in the marketplace, but i can't purchase it since my credit card does not match any of the countries in the list. Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Guy
Vignette, or camera 360 are excellent for that. (android)
thanks for the suggestion, however I'm still running stock rom, which means i'm limited to apps in WM...
Any other suggestions in that department?
any clues?
Like you said, you are limited if you sick with wm ;-)
I have 3 apps who makes that and much more on my hd2
Hi,
I must admit, as a new user of HD2, I'm very concerned about messing around and ending up bricking my phone. i finally got to the stage where i have everything working fine on my WM, so I'm less eager to go about and mess things up.
However, maybe i can start reading and learning from other people's experience on the different 'adventures' that i may run into if i try to install Android on my system. as far i i understand there is still no 100% working version, but it's getting close.
Can you reference me to the main discussion thread on the forum for the android on HD2? (how to install..etc...)
BTW - do i need to take something into consideration if my Phone is a t-mobile?
Thanks,
Guy
Hi Guysu,
I do believe there are effects within your camera options that allows a few effects, under advance, on the 3rd page, you will find effects, limited to GrayScale, Seipia (for ur old look) and Negative (for whatever only God knows!)
But I do hear you, because I too am looking for some fun Cam Apps for my beloved phone. It's always a little harder to find fun stuff for a serious phone.

on a more serious note, can someone direct me to the right thread on the options to migrate from WM to Android?

As someone who is only just a few months into his 24 month contract (a contract that has no built in data connection), I know the fear of mucking up your hardware. However I've found the whole experience to be quite safe.
The first step would be to get HSPL onto your phone from this thread - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
Then reading this thread - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713977 should give you everything else you need to know to find and install a new ROM, Radio and Android build.
I went from stock ROM on my HD2 to cooked ROM, new Radio and Android all in a day with those threads.
The only issues I've noticed so far as not being able to change the alarm times on the built in clock (just download a new one from Android market) and sometimes the screen stops responding to touch for 10 seconds or so.
thanks for your help in getting started...
I tried to catch on my reading right away, but i noticed this warning in big red scary font:
1024LEOs (from T-Mobile with 1024ROM) ARE NOT SUPPORTED
so, as a T-mobile HD2 user, that means bye bye sweet android adventure for me i guess?
Looks like your android adventures don't have to be over quite yet forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
I'll swop my HD2 with yours
But my experience with Android on my HD2, it's weird, sluggish and not fun. However that jumping cow game is fun in it. .
To be honest, the last I tried, I was on stock roms and radios, now with my new artemis rom and upgraded radio, maybe i should try again.. but i recalled I couldn't make phone calls lol..

Here's an app I found via Google.
EDIT: Nvm, it looks like it's not even good.
