This is the same as the version that originally shipped with the device?

mine is a sim free phone so i could not login to look at the changelog
perhaps if yours is branded tmobile you could do so, and post the changelog here ?
there must be some change or why would they post it dated 15/03/10 ???

there is no changelog from htc's site. it's just a small "updated" t-mo uk ROM, still based on the very first 1.43 ROMs. i wont call it an update at all. FYI, this so called update has been made available in xda for a long time now. i've downloaded it and compared the Hash, and they are 100% identical.
omg!
if this is the update i've waited 3 months for then heads are gonna roll!
is it actually the exact same rom as before?
what the hell was the point in it?

It's not even an update. Its the exact same version number that I have on my original ROM T-Mobile HD2 - ROM Version:1.43.110.2.
And yes, I still have my original ROM. It works okay for what I do, and want to stick with official ROMs if possible. Maybe in the future if T-Mobile don't give a real update, or I hit serious issues, but for now I'd like to keep my warranty intact. I'm aware I can re-flash it easily back to the original ROM (even more so now that ROM is officially available to download) - however my concern is over times when I get a fault which means I cannot re-flash it.
i'm on the original t-mobile rom and find it suitable. the only real change ive made is to revert back to the windows messaging set up, not htc messages.
how many people on the original rom have had problems with HTC messaging?
The disclaimer says:
* This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading.
This may 'unlock' t-mobile from their current position and allow them the HTC rom upgrade path.
Has anyone tried this?

Interesting point, however I suspect it's a standard disclaimer they put onto their ROM downloads. Would be interesting though for someone to confirm?
Well, someone try and download it using their S/N and try flashing. Worst that happens is it says 'Incorrect Vendor ID'

At least we now have an official T-Mobile ROM we can revert to if we ever need to take the phone back.
I know they tend not to bother if you install other ROMs, but nice to have it as a fallback option.
*sigh*
Goldcard here we come... Interesting that on t-mo's own forum thread
they haven't actually announced the availability of this yet (even though they must be able to see their own customers fuming away...)
support.t-mobile.co.uk/discussions/index?page=forums&topic=801038058f61be601258e88860f007fca&messageit.offset=70
(can't post the link, so you'll have to cut and paste..)
I don't even want to think what the reaction on there is going to be once they actually announce it.
Ah, no, they'll mark it as solved, and no-one will be able to post! Good stuff, eh?
I tried it just incase it was generic but that was a a massive waste of time, as far as I can see this rom is identical to the factory version.

Hi,
I am one of the stupid guys that upgraded to 2.1. got my phone 2 days ago, so didn't know about anything. i think we should write in their forum or costumer support or something to complain about the crappy update, and i am sure they will find a way for everybody to downgrade. i called c/s they said that there is no way to downgrade and i should call htc. i am sure that if everyone went to the sprint stores and complained about all the stuff that is wrong they would have to deal with a lot of people which they probably don't want to do, so i am sure they will find a solution

I believe he RUUd and wants to root and install custom roms. Therefore he wants everyone to complain about problems that dont exist so we can downgrade to 1.5 and root again. Problem is Sprint will not do this cause it will be a lot of work to do something that does not benefit them at all. Besides they took more flack from users wanting 2.1 that they wont be effected by the small amount of users that want to downgrade.
Sounds like the OP is just mad that they didn't research before updating their two-day old device.

The fact that only 1 person has received it.
I haven't gotten it, but I'm not sure I'd even see it since I renamed otacerts just in case they did this.
I guess I'll wait a little longer to be skeptical...considering only 1 person on THIS forum says they recieved it. That doesn't mean only 1 person recieved it.
Plus, with all the users here running custom roms already, how many of us are even going to see it pushed to thier phones ? I know it won't come up on mine at all because of that.
We'll see...maybe it's real, maybe it's not but I think it may be a little early to think otherwise.

I think the OP is just trying to see if anyone else gets it. If someone does get it and doesn't have clockworkmod recovery, be sure to logcat so we can get the file.
If you have clockwork recovery you should be able to accept the update, because cwm won't flash it but the update will stay on your sdcard.

I am wondering if anyone can confirm this? I haven't received my phone yet, but that would suck.
yeah, any changes you make are reversed upon reboot
It is a very loose use of the term "rootkit", but from the owner's perspective, it is technically correct.

I'd wait for some credible evidence first. I haven't seen any at all yet...
I'm hoping there is no real merit to this and that the XDA community finds a workaround. I have faith in the devs here. The first one to get a working, solid root will definitely get a donation from me, lol.
My question is.. if the phone always resets the firmware.. what happens when T-Mobile pushes out the next OTA?
They obviously have a work around that needs to be exploited.
you know, when Motorola was doing this ****...everyone was like "no need to worry, HTC doesn't do this kind of stuff, and they make great phones"

I think in cases like these, their hands are probably tied. It's hard to say who to put the blame on. The carrier could've requested the block or they would've rejected HTC. Either way, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The end user pays a monthly bill and has purchased the phone. Why are they now disallowed to alter their investment? I don't see how the carrier or HTC loses. Preventing us from tinkering will just make us grow to hate the carrier, the phone manufacturer or both.
Where are we supposed to go when Android gets completely locked down? That doesn't sound like open source to me and open source is what drove me to Android in the first place.
I'm sure the big difference with the OTA is the fact that it's:
1) a newer version
2) signed
Failing to meet these requirements probably prevents writing to the "permanent" memory.
Well this is quite irritating. Has this sort of thing been implemented on other devices? And if so, has XDA been able to root it?
I guess what im trying to ask is, if this is true, does that mean the G2 can not be rooted? Need to know because im purchasing one soon and if its impossible to root and get roms on, It would be a deal breaker for me.
Well, it can't really be impossible, but if it requires hardware mods or for the signature to be cracked...it may never happen.
Honestly, I'm happy enough with the phone that I wouldn't be upset it if it was never rooted, but of course I'd prefer that it was. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that one of the expert rooters can get the job done.

Anything that can be engineered, can ultimately be reverse engineered. I'm sure once devs like Cyanogen and others get a G2 in hand, they'll have some sort of solution or at least a better explanation than what this website gives. One can only hope. If it turns out to be hardware-driven, that scares me a bit.
Wow, what a boneheaded move by Tmo considering that so many people considered the G2 to be the successor to the N1 as a dev phone.

That shouldn't matter then.. remember the CLIQ and DROID were rooted by adding SU to a signed OTA w/o changing the signature bits in the compressed OTA.
iT cant be impossible cause then we would never be able to get updates so like everyone is saying im sure some Pro Moders / Hackers will find a way. Will it be as simple as other roots? Prly not but im sure at some point we will have it. I to am happy with the phone as is and rly the only thing that we are lacking (correct me if im wrong) is the built in teathering and becoming a WiFi hotspot. I can live without those things but some people might need them. At any rate my fingers are crossed =)

The G2 is not a dev phone and they dont have dev phones of the G2 available for purchase..not sure what your inferring? The G1 had dev phones as did the N1.. nothing on the G2 though as of yet.
Well, if this is the case, then the phone goes back today. *sigh* I really like Android 2.2 over 1.6.

He wasn't referring to an actual "dev" G2 phone...he meant the G2 was perceived as the next big "open" phone for devs to have just how the N1 was widely accepted/perceived as a phone for devs (being able to root, load custom ROMS, etc. freely) (ie. moto's execs telling disgruntled X owners that if they wish to have custom roms and such they should buy a google n1).

The problem with this position is if you have a need that T-Mobile refuses to meet, then you cannot override them.
But as others have pointed out, it can be reversed engineered. Physical access to the hardware essentially makes it vunderable to whatever security counter-measures you wish to invest in.
According to a post from Jerry Hildenbrand over on the Android Central forums, Sprint engineers are currently testing new firmware which will hopefully solve our 3G signal problems and perhaps 4G issues as well (WiFi issues are apparently within Google's realm to fix). From the info here and elsewhere, it appears the original, pre-ship baseband was better than what we have now. Does anyone have this baseband available to flash?
Here's a link to the thread. Look on Page 2 of the thread for Jerry's first post:

Radio chips are usually now on the same CPU chip. I'm guessing the radio problems are causing the CPU stall? Maybe?
There is a post that says the radio searching for signal stalls the chip, making pictures temporarily unreadable, leading people to think they have disappeared when they have not.

You are correct. The chip is busy looking for a radio signal and and stalls the loading of the pics on your sdcard. It takes a few minutes for them to show up and people that didn't let it load thought they were gone.
