According to a post from Jerry Hildenbrand over on the Android Central forums, Sprint engineers are currently testing new firmware which will hopefully solve our 3G signal problems and perhaps 4G issues as well (WiFi issues are apparently within Google's realm to fix). From the info here and elsewhere, it appears the original, pre-ship baseband was better than what we have now. Does anyone have this baseband available to flash?
Here's a link to the thread. Look on Page 2 of the thread for Jerry's first post:

LOL! What a funny article...I like how they say disappearing pictures are caused by a weak data connection. What the hell would that have to do with something stored on your sd card? Unless there is something Im not aware of...
Radio chips are usually now on the same CPU chip. I'm guessing the radio problems are causing the CPU stall? Maybe?
There is a post that says the radio searching for signal stalls the chip, making pictures temporarily unreadable, leading people to think they have disappeared when they have not.

First time ive heard of that, its very odd to me that bad service would affect something showning in your gallery. Wouldnt surprise me though

You are correct. The chip is busy looking for a radio signal and and stalls the loading of the pics on your sdcard. It takes a few minutes for them to show up and people that didn't let it load thought they were gone.
The build looks to me like it on a gsm nexus. not sure how that would help the 4g

Right!!! what would it have to do with something stored on the SD card? Seeing as the NS4g has no SD card, the problem is extremely credible as everything would be running off the same internal storage

Pictures aren't actually being deleted, they're failing to show in the gallery.
BTW, the screenshot clearly says "D720" and "Sprint."

I beg to differ as the last PRL jacked my hero up, i had virtually no signal and it went into roam all the time. So far this one works great for me and im in the great lakes area.

You have to do the ##775# thing enter your msl code choose the prl and update it.
I am guessing on Darchs rom that is not an option tho since the ## codes do not work. At least you guys have the fastest rom right?
I believe my service has improved since I installed this PRL. It could be all in my head but last night I had full service which is not a normal thing for me...
I'll have to see if it was a fluke thing or if it actually improved my service.
(Upland, CA near LA)
Wow, updating this PRL completely hosed my phone. My data connection keeps dropping continuously now, and I am going into roaming. This is at work where I have always had 3-4 bars. I can't even run a speedtest, because my data will drop down to 1X every time I try. I tried updating again (thinking I got a bad flash) and the same thing is happening.
By the way, this is happening on a stock .6 Sprint Rom with only Sprint bloatware removed.
Edit: Nevermind. It turns out the tower right by my work was having problems all morning. I thought it was because of the PRL update I did last night right before I went to bed. Turns out my coworkers on Sprint were having the exact same issues. The tower problem was fixed this afternoon, and all is well now.

lol I read somewhere that it was actually 616 as the mark of the beast... or something other than 666. But who knows... But yea, I want a backup cause I have been messing with PRL's and sometimes the built in feature to auto update doesn't update. It's easier just to do it myself.
Also, did you know on your phone that 666 also spells MOM? Back in the day of pagers and stuff when I was 14-15, I had a pager and when my mom would page me..She'd put 666 so that I would it was mom paging me...I don't think she ever realized she was putting 666 every time.
Sorry but I am skeptical about this OTA. So I'd like to start a poll on who has actually been prompted and/or received it.

The fact that only 1 person has received it.
I haven't gotten it, but I'm not sure I'd even see it since I renamed otacerts just in case they did this.
I guess I'll wait a little longer to be skeptical...considering only 1 person on THIS forum says they recieved it. That doesn't mean only 1 person recieved it.
Plus, with all the users here running custom roms already, how many of us are even going to see it pushed to thier phones ? I know it won't come up on mine at all because of that.
We'll see...maybe it's real, maybe it's not but I think it may be a little early to think otherwise.

I think the OP is just trying to see if anyone else gets it. If someone does get it and doesn't have clockworkmod recovery, be sure to logcat so we can get the file.
If you have clockwork recovery you should be able to accept the update, because cwm won't flash it but the update will stay on your sdcard.

It seems the phone is not able to take a picture while it is in a call. I am not sure if this is normal for Android or just the SGS. If possible, it would be great if the option was made available. I don't use this feature a lot but there are times when you want to be able to do that.
Thanks

Someone wrote that popup. They wrote it for a reason. My guess is that the phone.apk and the camera.apk are too RAM hungry, or other-resource hungry to run well together.
I love both of the apps. They're the best I've seen for either on Android yet. I'd like to see them work together at the same time, but there's no one in my life who wouldn't let me call them right back after I take a pic or two.
Maybe if you're calling 911 and trying to catch what you're reporting, but that's why I have a camera in my glovebox all the time. I'd recommend it (just in case you're flashing a ROM while driving and it didn't get a chance to boot up....)

That happened to me the other day: I was riding the motorcycle down the interstate and I put my sandwich down so I could change lanes, as I was merging I wiped and flashed CM6 on my Vibrant and this lady ran me off the bridge. By the time I swam to shore she was driving away and I was stuck in a boot loop and couldn't take a picture of her plate. I was so upset I finished eating my sandwich and swam home.

You're kidding me... I returned my G2 because I get terrible signal indoors on campus, and I couldn't live without my BB's UMA so I figured I'd wait until it was enabled. The tards on the phone and in the store said it's looking closer to December for the release...
EDIT: Err... that was a useless post. I hope the updates become widespread; I'll definitely rush back to get the phone.
If this is real.... this could be big for getting perm. root available. Either way the tether option is sweet! Did the radio version change anyone? My G2 is off and charging right now... My signal is crap compared with my MTS. Really need a newer radio version.

I've being keeping an eye on this phone for quite a long time.
At first ,dudes said they have only 1.25G(or so) accessible ROM. Someone suspected that HTC might misuse the Desire Z's Chip.
Then ,dudes said (S)HE had dismantled the G2 and found the phrase "4G" in the ROM's serial number.Someone explained there might be some kinda write-protecting system by setting the permanent or temporary write protect bits in the CSD.
Now ,I'm confused. So What's is our final report?
When I pick up my G2 is the store, should I bother to check the ROM ?
Read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
I see that the offical Spec-chat indicates a 4G ROM in G2.....
But what about those early fokes whose phones say only 1.25G ROM?
Is it because of the mix-up or the write-protecting system written in the ROM?

This is what I'm after,a exact answer. No matter what it is.
I haven't seen any posts regarding this issue for a while, which makes me think that you guys must have figured it all out....opoos .. Guess I'm wrong.
So we are still waiting for a official explanation, aren't we?
BUT is it TRUE that someone's phone do report a 4G ROM?
If so,then I do have to check the phone after all.
No one has shown any proof of a G2 reporting more than about 1.3GB free.
