So, I have flashed a couple Eris's and Incredibles to different carriers before... but while tinkering and playing with roms, I see that factory restore roms from HTC have an NV Items file, all of the settings for the radio, not the radio rom, but all of the carrier's settings...
Now, we all know that with a generic empty radio or ie. using a sprint rom and activating to verizon, and using QPST/CDMA workshop (or use HTC's awesome built in ##778 menu) we can get the phone online to 1x/3g/4G on a carrier of choice.. there's a reason a SPRINT rom with activate on SPRINT no problem, its the NV items file in the rom, a verizon rom from and incredible or Eris would have an NV items file for all verizon settings... requiring only a *228 call to get online... getting my drift ? No more figuring out the HA, HDR, PPP, etc, passcodes.
Think it's possible to cook up a rom and changing only the NV items file for carrier changing? ... I know on the eris, to apply that NV items file, you go to the factory system restore by holding down+vol for over 30 seconds and it gives you the option to restore NV items. This writes the NV items file from the rom to the phone's radio.
Can we for example... take the alltel hero firmware file, rip the NV items file from it, replace the NV items file in an EVO firmware and flash it to the phone and do an NV restore.. ? *228 activated....
What do you guys think?
Huh lol..

I had a problem and I suspected it was due to the updated PRL. The latest ROM update contained 60610 and the one on my phone was 60611. I noticed that the rom updates come with a cab that looks like it updates the PRL. I put the rom on a microsd card and ran it from the phone. It installed the PPST program to my phone. I then went to the windows directory and there was a ppst executable there, along with the PRL file, named 60611.prl . (You will also see this name in the xml file in the cab) I ran PPST,and it installed the PRL and prompted me to reboot. After reboot it reprovisioned the data services and the phone now shows 60611.
Be carefull doing this however,I dont know how to get back to 60611. Presumably sprint can make this happen, but I think they think I have the latest PRL. It prompted me to upgrade the last time I called sprint,so I doubt it will do it again.
alternative method...
just dial ##prl# (##775#) and enter your 6 digit msl # which you can get from sprint easily if you don't have it (tell them you did a factory reset and have to reprogram). Then click on prl, edit and you can put in whatever prl you want. I download mine from corolada.com/prl and it works fine.
Alltel Update
Or if you have an Alltel 6800 or 6700 you would dial ##775 then enter all 0s a total of 6 of them then tap on the PRL and select menu and then edit then browse your phone for the prl file, of course you would have to obtain the prl file first which you can search around as mentioned before to get them or if you get lucky you might be able to get an Alltel Tech Rep to send you the file but they aren't supposed to so again you would have to be kind of lucky to get it from them.

My Xv6800 data does not work. I've done everything that i found from the forums. Anyone have any advice? I did 2.40 olipro, then did stock rom, then DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.50.
Did you load your carrier cab? I am assuming since you have an XV6800 that you Verizon, if so get the Verizon cab and install it.
Cabs are available here.

You will have to add the cell modem back in your self. When you flash with the custom rom there is no cellular modem added by default . It's documented some where (I had the same issue the first time I flashed). You have to go to connections click add then select cellular modem. Make sure you have the correct network settings (UN/PW) and your all good to go.

IS there any way to made a carrier cab? I do not see the one I need on the list. I have the original phone and I can pull it off from that phone.

I think you need to refer to the post by BillThyCat because your wrong about that. A cab file is all it takes.
The only reason you would need to load a cell modem driver is if you were going to have it connect to a different ISP that your default carrier data network, as far as I know, as I have never had to load any sort of driver to get my phone back on the data network after flashing.
If your carrier isn't listed, and you have the original phone still handy, I believe there is info you can copy from your EPST screens and put into your new phone that will reenable data. Tho this is something I have not had to do since I have a carrier cab available.
What carrier do you have? Maybe someone else here with the same carrier can help out.
You may need to recreate the dialup connection under network connections as well, with most carriers the dialup # is #777 and then you use a login and password that is unique to your account. It's possible your carrier help desk may be able to walk you thru how to reconfigure this. Depends on the carrier.
This doesn't require software, just some configuration on the phone.

I have a TITA100(Quest) that I am unable to launch EPST.exe on. I need to enter in the SPC # that I generated, but when I tap it to launch it reads EPST at the top for a sec but never leaves the file browser. I have also tried ##778(#), but the phone dials to a quest message service that says I am unable to dial this number.
I want to configure it for cricket.
Here is what I have done so far.....
Started with: Radio v. 1.39.00, ROM V. 2.13.656.2, Bootloader 1.2
Went to bootloader 2.40(via Hard-SPL-MF.exe), Scrosler's Titan ROM 3.26 w/touchflow. and then Radio 3.42.30.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or solutions.
I got it to work after doing the using reedit to dump the code into a text file. I am not sure if that activated something, but it worked.

So go to settings then phone the location and turn it to 911 only, GPS is now off. I don't think there are any gps settings in EPST but I could be wrong. And I run GPS all the time and have no problems with my battery life. I think you have other issues.
i may be wrong, but my Quest XV6800 didn't have the EPST.exe executable in it's original ROM (it's also in the Windows directry). i believe i flashed it to Alltel's stock ROM to get to it, and reset the SPC to 000000's. i couldn't get it into debug mode with the Quest ROM either
i have flashed many Moguls and the Quest ones are always the most peculiar...
i can't get epst to launch. i tried repeatedly starting it, using ##778 AND EPST.EXE in \Windows. I then soft restarted two or three times, trying both methods after each boot.
Is there any way to fix this? Otherwise, is there another way to enter the A KEY? I'm gettin an auth error when making calls.
rom 4.1.2 radio 3.42.50 pri 1.35_002
Installed DCD Verizon Carrier Cab from http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers and that allowed me to launch EPST via both methods.
Did not eliminate the need for a new A KEY.
Still kinda learning this stuff, I flashed everything OK, and now the GPS works with Garmin XT. This is on a "practice" phone, one that was kind of beatup that I could practice on before I flash my actual phone. I couldn't get EPST to work till I loaded the Verizon cab described below. Question is, will I have to load this cab every time I flash a new ROM, or does it have more to do with flashing a different radio ROM?
This is a great forum, I've learned a lot, and still learning. Thanks everyone.
Dale.
Some roms are carrier specific and have the info included. Most roms state that installing the carrier cab is necessary. This allows the same rom for all titans and then the user just adds carrier info. Just read the rom instruction better next time. Most list if the cab is needed.
I just want to share my experience with you. I had to change my phone number thus required a PRL reprogram. Because I am running the latest NFSROM with WM6.5, the instructions from Bell (in Canada) would not work. Someone on this forum said that he had to revert to the original firmware from Bell and then flash back. However, I found the way to do it with out reverting back or even a hard reset:
-Run PST program under \Windows
-Choose edit and Enter your lock code (call MST). This should have been given to you on the Bell instruction. I heard the Verizon one is 000000. For Spring you can find the getpst program.
-Change the MSID to your new phone number on the default Display page.
-Change the Mobile Directory Number (MDN) on the NAM page to your new number as well.
-Make sure that all other relate fields i.e. MINs, MMC, MNC, NMSI, IMSI ... is correct. They should be changed automatically after you change the MSID and the MDN number.
-Quit the program. It will ask if you want to reset the phone. Say yes.
At this point, your phone should work. However, the aGPS might not be working. You will get fix via the internal GPS but it will take a long time because aGPS is not working properly. If this happen, install the Bell Carrier Cab here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3680840#post3680840
I imaging the procedure is very similar on other carriers.
You are a life saver! THANK YOU!

Updated to the new FAQ post. Thanks for letting me know.
Hi,
seems like I've just noticed this issue, even if my last flashing (no, I didn't use that Odin option to clear efs) has been done 7 months ago.
The (italian) guide I have read when I bought the Spica back in June didn't mention ANYTHING regarding backing up the efs folder.
My IMEI is 00000000000000, but I can succesfully make and receive calls, sms, and use HSDPA data (Postemobile, a virtual operator working on Vodafone network).
My efs folder contains only a nv_data file.
My doubts are:
-If my IMEI is blank, why I haven't any problem at all?
-If I flash with ODIN a stock 2.1 firmware, can I recover the issue?
-I asked a friend a good nv_data file from an eastern Europe Spica, in an extreme case may I overwrite my nv_data file?
-Any hints regarding the policy of the US carriers if the IMEI is blank? It would be a problem if I couldn't connect to the mobile network. Last time ATT and T-Mobile worked well, but that was before the last ROM flashing, so I don't know...
thanks
Your nv_data file did get corrupted or deleted. This could happen if you ticked the option "Debug Only" -> "Phone EFS Clear" option in Odin.
When the file is broken or missing a new file is created at startup which does not contain IMEI data. Look if you have a nv_data.bak file in your efs folder. You can rename it and look if it fixes the fault. If there is no such file then you have a problem. This can't be fixed easily.
You can go to a professional unlock shop nearby and get a emei repair.
Ore you can contact this guy and get a fix for 20$:

PS: The missing imei will not cause problems with the phone. The complete phone will work without a problem.
