Anyone else having a problem with the white paint chipping off the white EVO?
I noticed around the edges of the rear frame the paint is starting to come off revealing the red plastic underneath. I called several Sprint stores none of them carry the actual white parts for the EVO, One tech suggested I buy the parts on ebay and install them myself, Another tech wanted to charge me $35 just to look at the phone and then decide whether or not to file a warranty claim for the EVO.
Does any of this sound right? I have only been with Sprint for a few months.

going to a sprint tech center is a horrid experience. your almost better fixing it yourself or selling the phone and getting another one.

I don't want to get rid of it, I really like the white EVO. Do you think I would have better luck dialing *2 and talking to customer care and see if they will swap out the phone?

Take it back to BestBuy... Lol
I would just pull the back off the phone and repaint it. You could actually paint it any color you want. I'm actually going to paint my otterbox so the wife and I can tell the difference between our phones(we both have EVO's with the same style otterbox.

I called Executive Escalations and explained the situation, had a stylus overnight and as far as I was told the store was reprimanded.
Don't take their BS.

I watched a video on Youtube the rear housing panel is only 5 screws and it comes right out, I'm thinking some touch up paint......

I'm trying to be a nice guy, I don't want to escalate anything if I don't have to, I will if it's necessary. So far it seems the Sprint at the stores are not even prepared for working on the white EVO, They don't even carry the parts....
I've had nothing but good experiences with the sprint repair centres. Took my phone in last week cause the speaker sounded bad, they replaced the whole back half of the phone, free, no questions asked in about 10 minutes, they didn't even mention the fact my phone said "freshhh" when it booted up lol.
I brought my microUSB cable in as well because the end bent and it stopped charging the phone. I figured its my fault, they'll sell me a new one but he just grabbed me a new one and off I went, great experience.
This week my GPS stopped working so back I went, they looked at it and ordered me a new phone, again no questions asked, no charge.
So I would say go to a different sprint store. Everyone complains about Sprints customer service but I've had nothing but good experience.

I don't think it so much a customer service issue, As it's just that they are not
prepared to repair the White EVO. I only have a handful of Sprint Stores in my area, So far everyone I have talked to has not been much help. The last thing I want to is drive even farther to get the same answer.

Ummmm ummmm yea.....i don't know what to tell you...I'm confused by this thread and its meaning for creation. You probably are upset but I would suggest painting it yourself maybe?

Id like to see some finished results of the battery cover and the piece underneath the front benzel painted some different colors before i go doing my own. I own a black evo so I don't even know if painting would even be an option. Still, I'd like to see.
Sprint stores don't have stock for any white parts yet, so there's nothing that can be done. Though, even if there were parts, paint is considered cosmetic damage, and not covered. You also have to remember that stores are JUST getting stock of the white EVOs, for sale in a few days. Many have never even SEEN a white one in person.
That being said, as much as I love the look of the white, I've seen the paint chipping too often to get one. Sad.

Well, I finally got Sprint to do an express replacement (send me a new/refurb phone over the mail and I return them mine) after hours of explaining to them that dirt under the glass is not accidental damage and should be covered by my TEP. I tried going to the local store here and they swapped my screen with one that was all scratched and horribly nicked on the edges. I just stared back at the store rep and didn't say a word... which prompted him to say "well, there's no dirt under the glass now." Anyways, they put my old display back (4 hours of my life wasted).
Now, there is a 2 week backorder for these replacements due to a shortage on these phones (Still?! Does HTC/Sprint not like money?!). Apparently, this is advantageous to me as I'll most likely be getting a new unit, rather than a refurbished one (according to the phone rep).
Now, I had asked the rep if he could get me a white EVO instead, and he said he'd make a note of it. However, the SKU for the replacement is ending in K1, which I believe is black (since the white one ends in WT). Can anyone confirm this?
Also, anything I can say to convince them to get me a white one? I tried telling them that my current EVO is white, but they can obviously check. Anything else?!

Well, just got off the phone with Asurion and they said that my replacement was done through Sprint internally since there was no deductible to be paid. Asurion only handles those claims requiring a deductible.
I guess I might be stuck with a black one.
At least, the rep again today confirmed that due to low availability, the phone was going to be brand new.
I guess I can always get an OEM back cover on eBay for $60. :/

Not true. Initially when the white EVO was released it was exclusive to Best Buy. Today you can purchase either color at Sprint stores as well as Best buy, etc.
From my experience, each different color phone has it's own individual SKU and therefore sprint replaces your device with the exact same model and SKU. Technically it is still the same phone but it takes a manager\supervisor to over-ride the system in order to swap to a different color phone. Sprint's system automatically orders the exact same SKU therefore regular sprint employees must get an approval from a m anager or supervisor in order to change the SKU.
It can be done but you will have to persuade them to do it. Since your phone has a warranty issue i wouldn't waste an insurance claim in order to get a different color phone but that's your choice. The only other suggestion I can make is to search craigslist for people wanting to trade their EVO's for the opposite color. There are many people out there who will do even swaps for the opposite color EVO. But only do swaps inside a corporate Sprint store so that you can verify the phone you are trading for has a good esn and can be activated on Sprint. You will also need an "extra" spare unactivated Sprint phone to make the esn swapping much easier... trust me on this.

I remember seeing the white EVO in Sprint stores as well.
I decided to just stick with the black after all. The white does look better, but I feel it'll just get dirty quicker and it'll also make me and my girlfriend annoyed at having to make sure which is which.
I can always change the backing with an OEM kit from eBay for $59.99.

Good luck with the new phone. I went through 3 refurbs phones before I started contacting the executive offices demanding a new one. The real let down was I got the brand new in box phone today and what do you know? Light leakage around the gasket and a pin size dot next to the home button where light comes through
The white one feels a bit cheaper. The battery cover is very thin plastic (aka it bends with little pressure) and gets super slippery. Just buy a white case (which I had to do for my already white Evo).
I went to bestbuy to exchange my ASUS Transformer Prime (many known problems), they let me, and said i could go pick any tablet to exchange it with (thought they would just offer a ASUS Transformer Infinity as the replacement) , so i went to go look at the tablets, narrowed it down to the Infinity or the Note 10.1, decided on the Note. Asked the person there if he could get me one from the back or whatever, to go bring up to Customer Service to exchange. He went to go get it, came back and said they where all out of stock.. So anyways i ask if they can order me one, they said yeah and i could come pick it up on the 24th.
But today I check bestbuy.com just to see if they have any instock by chance. and what I see now for the White model, is "Unavailable" http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...6&skuId=6315134&st=galaxy note 10.1&cp=1&lp=2 also "Shipping: Not available" for the black model however it says for store pickup " Pick up in 3 to 5 days" and "Shipping: Usually leaves our warehouse in 1 business day"

Best buy does not have a lot of white in stock. Greys were manufactured first. Whites typically represented the 8000 originally.
Best buy cant ship it to your house, except on days that trucks get delivered. I have no idea why this is. But check on Saturday or Monday/Tuesday and it should show up that it can be delivered to your house free shipping.
I just returned my grey for creaks and ordered the white one. Only shipped to store for now since I ordered Wednesday.
There's about 5 best buy stores within 300 miles over me that have whites in stock. None of them are convenient.
All respective Notes (8000, 8010, 8013) are mechanically the same and made on the same assembly lines no matter what color they end up being. So if there was something wrong with the production of white back covers or white displays (since the color is part of the actual display) I could see where one color could have a different set of issues than the other. I also think that's highly unlikely or it would have popped up here in the forum before Amazon. White seems to be more popular so it could simply be Samsung guessed the percentages of white vs. gray wrong and didn't build enought white ones.
Consider getting it at Walmart. I returned my16 GB version to BB and got the 32GB Version from WM because the two year warranty with accidental coverage was only $69 compared to $180 @ BB. And BB would not price match on the warranty.

I actually gave in and drove to canton, OH to get the white one tonight. Funny, i swear this feels sturdier and slightly heavier. It could be because i didnt have my baby for 18 hours...
The front of the box is slightly different than my gray one too. Graphically, they replaced the s-planner icon on the gray box with the s-notes icon on the white one. No creaks on this either so far.
It really does feel more solid, i swear im not going crazy.
Go with the deep gray. I've had the white model for ~2 weeks, and decided I'd rather have the deep gray, as well as 32gb of internal storage (instead of the 16gb I have currently), and I'm willing to pay the $50 price difference that I found on Amazon. The new one should be here today, and I'm going to send this one back.
I don't like the gray border/trim on the white model. I think it makes it look kinda cheap, like a toy. Hopefully, the deep gray will appeal a bit more, with a modern look.

i bought mine from them (onSale) last week, $499+19 overnight shipping, guess what? i received it after a week. i called the customer service 13 times, and everyone saying something different. anyway after i got my note and shipping refund, i gave a negative feedback, the day after the manager called me to remove the feedback since they refund my shipping cost. i asked him what is wrong? he said we dont have in it stock, we brought it from GA, Thats why your order took long time. so i removed the feedback

When I bought mines I wanted the Whitr buy the best buys surrounding me only had grey so I went with that. I woulf check stock daily after to see if they had the white and there days when I saw both models listed as unavailable. About 2 weeks after I bought the grey one, a store near my job finally had the white in stock so I went on my lunch break. When I went to the desk and the girl told me they didn't have it. I let her know that it says they had it online and got pissed off and walked to the section where they have the tablets. Five minutes later she came back with the white one and did my exchange.

When they were first pulled, from my understanding, there were a lot of returns related to one or more defects. Not sure what.
I live in NYC..
April 10: Amazon advertises release date of Gold Platinum color as April 27th - "want it the day it comes out? select 2 shipping with prime" - that was a lie. People ordering from AT&T got their Gold Platinum 3 weeks earlier. I ordered on 2 year contract and waited with a broken phone for this thing to arrive.
April 27: "Made in Korea" phone arrives, pink tinted screen.
April 28: Paid $1000 for an off contract replacement to be 1-day shipped, refunded when i swap
April 29: "Made in Korea" phone arrives, less pink but still not white whites, with a dead pixel (always green)
April 30: Order a second replacement. Return original phone.
May 1: "Made in Korea" phone arrives, another pink tinted screen.
Today: Called Samsung support: "yeah don't order from amazon." - called AT&T support "yeah dont order from amazon" - they told me i can buy it in person. Called AT&T store in the Queens Center mall and they said they have 2 64GBs in stock MADE IN CHINA. Called AT&T to confirm I can upgrade. They said yes, the manager at the store can cancel the old 2 year upgrade. So I get on the bus, 1 hour to the mall.
Manager at the store: "Customer service cant do this because you used your upgrade a few days ago "
Customer service: "Manager at the store can do this, we cant"
I put them on the phone with each other and spoke to supervisor: "ok no one can do this, your line isn't eligible."
I call Amazon: "ok we will try to get that cancellation on the contract order we see the phone is in the mail" "oh wait never mind we can't"
As I leave trying to order it over the phone full price, the AT&T dude says "oh you have like 4 more lines you can use the Next upgrade on for this line with no changes. just ask them to use one of those and sell you a phone" - dude. I can do that? HALF A DOZEN AT&T AGENTS IN THE STORE, HALF A DOZEN CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENTS ON THE PHONE, AND THIS FIRST GUY TO REALIZE THE STUPID-EASY FIX.
I go back in.

Coloured pixel is not a dead pixel. It's just stuck. You can run a colour pattern to unstuck it!

It might not be a dead or stuck pixel, but actually a dead subpixel. Where one specific subpixel represents one of the primary colors or however the display defines them.
Try cycling through a bunch of colors and see if it at any point the pixel just goes black, if so it's a dead subpixel. If not then it's probably a stuck one.
Received replacement from AT&T. DEVASTATED TO SEE "MADE IN KOREA" on the box. Screen is more pink than the ones I got from amazon. Pic below.
1 more replacement, then I'm done with Samsung forever and getting a G4.

Interesting. I have Sprint. Amazon was set to release the Gold Platinum 32gb edge model on the 27th. I did not want to order from Amazon, so on that date, when it became available online at Sprint, I ordered it. So I have the same phone, but mine came direct from sprint. I wonder if it has the made in Korea stuff on the box as well. I did not notice anything. My whites seem white! lol. I'll follow up.
It seems maybe Amazon contracted out another manufacturer for these phones perhaps?

Something is wrong here especially with the logo on the left. I went to a store to buy one. It had the same smudgy logo as if it is a sticker. I refused to buy it and asked for another one with the logo clearly printed.

Sooo I've been calling them all week to confirm the pre-order I made in the beginning of April. I got an email then that just said I was confirmed and to come in on the 21st to pick up my phone. Having been through this disappointment route before with Verizon and Bestbuy, I had hoped this time would be different. Nope. They had told me I would receive a call to setup an appointment to come in and pickup my phone. I called last night after not getting any and they asked if I could come in then and I said no(I was at work) but I took off today in the morning to come in to pick up my Orchid Grey S8+ for Verizon. They said ok, come in at 11am today. Fine. I get there are 10:30 to be early. I give her my name and and she said to give her a minute. They're counting the money in the register in the phone dept and were short $12... When she was done doing that, she says they do not have the phone I pre-ordered in Orchid Grey and asked if I wanted a silver one instead... I was like, NO. I ordered an Orchid Grey one, u said it was here, so why did u make an appointment for me to come in and pick up something you said you had when you didn't??? I was pisssssed. She said they only received two Orchid Grey S8+s for Verizon and one was already picked up and another preorder had scheduled to pick it up the other one tomorrow. She again was like do u want the silver one... I was like NO, I placed a pre-order, u told me it was here, u told me to come at 11am to pick it up, I took off work and now it's not here SO FIX THIS PROBLEM. She went back to the freight room to look if there were more shipments there and eventually came back with a print out from Corporate that said 500 S8+ orders were on backorder. She said they would still honor the $150 gift card, the waived activation, and that those people that were backordered would also receive a $25 E-gift card in their email. I was like well when is the phone coming in? She likes she wasn't sure. I called up Corporate and walked away from the counter and they said she should know when the next shipment is coming in and to check with the inventory manager. I went back to her and told her what they said and she went over to a computer and it said they'd receive FIVE more on 4/26. I was like am I guaranteed to get one of THOSE? U had me come here for something you didn't have. She said she'd call me as soon as it was in. It may come today, tomorrow or before then. Needless to say I'm calling them every few hours. They've received other shipments in today that also included the black after I left for Verizon and some for AT&T. I know it's not her fault, but seriously.. Why tell me to come in and pick up something you don't have?

Cept when u include the part they tell ur phone is in the night before, u schedule an apt in the morning to come pick it up and take off work, then show up and they say they dont have it cause they only got two and the last one is scheduled to be picked up by someone else who reserved it the next day... U would be pissed too..
Damn crazy. I got mine from Sam's club and it went nothing like that. Best buy flaked on me even though I pre-ordered a couple days after announcement so I went to Sam's just because I got a random email. Was in and out in a hour. Got a $150 Sam's card as a bonus.

I had the exact same issue. I went over to VZW and got mine. Now to argue with Sams Club.

She again was like do u want the silver one... I was like NO, I placed a pre-order, u told me it was here, u told me to come at 11am to pick it up, I took off work and now it's not here SO FIX THIS PROBLEM. She went back to the freight room to look if there were more shipments there and eventually came back with a print out from Corporate that said 500 S8+ orders were on backorder. She said they would still honor the $150 gift card, the waived activation, and that those people that were backordered would also receive a $25 E-gift card in their email. I was like well when is the phone coming in? She likes she wasn't sure. I called up Corporate and walked away from the counter and they said she should know when the next shipment is coming in and to check with the inventory manager. I went back to her and told her what they said and she went over to a computer and it said they'd receive FIVE more on 4/26. I was like am I guaranteed to get one of THOSE? U had me come here for something you didn't have. She said she'd call me as soon as it was in. It may come today, tomorrow or before then. Needless to say I'm calling them every few hours. They've received other shipments in today that also included the black after I left for Verizon and some for AT&T. I know it's not her fault, but seriously.. Why tell me to come in and pick up something you don't have?

I feel for you brother, that blows. I panicked because mine was 1 day late. If you pay that much from a big company, you should have that product on schedule.
