SLCD and Recovery? - Droid Incredible General

I Just rooted a Dinc that had the SLCD screen using the latest Unrevoked reflash tool. For som reason When I boot into recovery instead of seeing CWM I see two white bars on both sides of the screen. I have herd reports of this but not how to fix it. I on my Amoled screen Inc, This doesn't happen. I think Its because CMW isnt compatible with the new Dinc's yet. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or if their is a special CWM I need to flash?

download this file and save it to somewhere you will remember:
http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...nly-see-black-screen-white-bars-recovery.html
then run the unrevoked tool with your phone unplugged. Go to file, custom recovery, and choose the .img file you just downloaded. Then plug in your phone like you originally did and let the tool do it's magic.

Thanks! It works wonders. This was the same recovery.img that I used on my amoled before it got bricked XD

I've completely forgotten how to flash radios

I'm not sure if you do it via fastboot or via RA, and which one I download. Anyone wanna help me out please?
I tried a few via RA and none of them work. Maybe I'm not downloading it right? I'm not quite sure.
OR maybe it's because I'm on the desire alpha 17 maybe? I have no idea, I've only flashed one radio a very long time ago and that was when I first rooted my phone. Do i have to wipe always or Am i really just mentally retarded.
I got mine in .zip format and flash via the recovery screen. Radios (ok, at least in my understanding) do not effect the rom at all. There is no reason to wipe as it is not related to the rom. I have tried all three today and yet to find one that seems superior where I live
Which one did you download? I ask this because for the latest radio theres all those choices and the one I tried gave me the Android out of the box thing and then booted immediately into recovery. So...help would be wonderful.

Modaco has it in their forums: http://android.modac...insecure-himem/
The radio update.zip is near the bottom. The update.zip can be flashed from recovery. Just save the file to the sd and flash from recovery. It will reboot to htc screen then have to reboot once more.

See I did flash that image via recovery and instead I got a android out of box thing. You know how when it starts up You get the little nexus icon with the locK? I didn't even get THAT. It then immediately booted into the recovery.
(Funny story. First time i did it I thought i bricked it, and I literally started crying a little bit. I was freaked until i looked back at it. Embarassing )

One click root? unrEVOked team

Could someone clarify if this is for us or not? I downloaded the desire tool and i get communication lost.
says it is... haven't tried it tho
well I rooted my wife's leak phone the other day with wag3slav3's root method ..... so now I have a refurb coming to replace my jacked up phone ....I will give this a shot then and see if it works ....but I am sure people will try this before then
I saw koush dutta was involved ...so I assume its all good, I do not like the fact it pushes clockwork recovery but I could change that later....

From the FAQ:
How do I use a custom recovery image instead of the packaged ClockworkMod?
You will need to choose a .img file, which is a binary file suitable for flashing. A .zip file will not work and may render your recovery partition inaccessible until you run unrevoked2 with an appropriate image.

ya but once rooted i can switch the recovery .... I have switched from amon to clockwork and back to amons before , I have also returned all the way to bone stock 1.5 just to see if I could
also when if you use rom manager it will give you a choice to flash an "alternate recovery" which is Amon_Ra.....
Amon's seems to be the standard on the eris. I actually prefer clockwork (on other devices), however the eris has had many past problems with it and I don't know if the issue was tracked down.
so does this work with Eris's on Leak v3? If so, I'll do this tonight on my wife's Eris. She hates the thing because it's so painfully slow and buggy. I want to get her rooted and on a different ROM that doesn't suck so hard.
Just use the standard method that everyone uses now. Its your safest bet to remain brick free.
I was under the impression it was a major PITA and extremely hit or miss? If not, I'll give it a try. Rooting my Incredible was fun enough (read: not at all), I hope this is easier.
Look for "Root for Eris LEAKERS" that method is now solid and works every time.
so on my new eris i tried it... we dont have hboot usb, so i modified for fastboot usb, went to install the drivers and windows told me to reboot... i said f*** that, connected to my linux vm and was rooted using the easyroot method in no time.
wag3slav3's root is a ****..use it
has anyone got this to work on there Eris. I tried in windows but all I got was Communications with device were unexpectedly interrupted. I tried the 3.1 on my Win 7 64bit. I installed the drivers fine I believe the only wierd thing is when looking at the how to install hboot drivers that came with the download i saw it said to go to HBoot and plug it in to your USB and select the driver folder to get the drivers well when I got into HBoot and plug in my USB nothing happeneds I dont get the hboot USB, I do get it in fastboot though
Yeah they say it supports the Eris but on the website it is not a selectable device and I have never gotten it to communicate with my computer (Mac)
I have yet to get any serious clarification that this works... although I have searched thoroughly enough I guess

( GUIDE ) Custom SPLASH1 on CDMA Desire.

I'M BEING VERY CLEAR HERE-THIS IS FOR CDMA DESIRE ONLY, NOT GSM!!!
You have to be S-OFF to do this.
Because the CDMA desire does not have extended fastboot yet, this is the only way to change the ( white with green HTC ) screen to a custom splash1 ( anything you want ) screen.
Giving credit where its due, I'd like to thank:
Team unrevoked for S_OFF
MRE-net for his guide with the .img converter tool and half of his how to that I was able to use, I will put his link in here.
ipfreelytech for his encouragement and unknowingly pointing me in a direction that made sense.
The only part I played in this is bringing these together and finding the right way to create the .txt file.
If I missed anyone, feel free to point it out.
I'm going to make this quick and simple but explain in detail so no one should have a problem but not to where you have zero legwork yourself; it took me 3 weeks to figure this out.
Requirements: my android-info.txt file
MRE-net's nbimg coverter tool
And whatever flavor archiver tool to make the .zip
Download this-android-info.txt
Go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795132,
download NBIMG command-line splash<-->image converter tool for your platform, read how to use the nbimg tool in command prompt ( extremely easy ). Read his how to thoroughly but PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FASTBOOT PORTION!!!!!!!!!! Basically don't bother past #8.
Now, after you have converted it with nbimg tool, you want to zip up the android-info.txt and the splash1.img you created together and name it PB99IMG.zip ( exactly how I have it underlined ) and place it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot into booloader ( which on my phone the screen goes straight to fastboot ) the fastboot screen has the word FASTBOOT highlighted in RED, and below it a little, BOOTLOADER is highlighted in BLUE. If thats what you see then hit the power button once and you should see HBOOT highlighted in BLUE under the phone info. Give it a few seconds ( 10-15 ) and you should see this:
Parsing...(SD ZIP)
(1) SPLASH1
Do you want to start update?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
You want to hit vol up obviously and when you do it happens very quick, almost instant and then hit vol up again to reboot and BAM, you should see your new SPLASH!!!!!!
Now for those who this didn't work for, its NOT the .txt file. More than likely its a bad archive or you didn't do the image right, so I don't want a lot of negative feedback because people can't figure it out. I have changed mine a couple times before I wrote this up, WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!
Note: If your baseband differs from the mainver: in the .txt file then edit it to what yours is before you make the .zip or it wont work.
ENJOY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!
why this long and complicated way?
can you not just convert it to img and then do
fastboot flash splash imagename.img ?
also there is a one click tool that will convert 24bit bmp to image and auto flash your device here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
i thought this worked on both gsm and cdma desires with s-off
EDIT: can you use extended fastboot commands with cdma unrevoked s-off?

So far nothing else worked on cdma. The tool or manual commands. I'm going to try this out after work. Thanks for finding this!
Definatly going to give this a shot after work as well. Thanks for figuring this out.

Currently the CDMA Desire does not have extended fastboot commands, despite having s-off. The Alpharev team is working on getting it working so this is our only method available for now
It totally works! Thanks lohp75 for doubting me when I said it couldn't be done lol
Like I said bud, doubt creates possibilities .

my bad mate, as you had s-off i assumed they would have included extended fastboot commands
AWESOME!!!! very easy to do just sounds difficult. thanks for getting it working and posting for us all!
You guys are very welcome :+). Its good that I am able to contribute back to the community instead of being a full time mooch . And like I said in the post, I detailed it so everyone should understand how to do it, but it will be so much easier when extended fastboot comes available to us!

Ok I have followed this guide exactly.. I have done and re done the picture in Photoshop, tried converting it with several file converters, and they all get the same result...
That is the file I made.. I changed the baseband to coinside with my device (US Cellular HTC Desire)..
And it completely refuses to flash the zip. There are some error messages that pop up VERY quick, what I can see, says no image in zip.. but its there... converted with the tool...
Any ideas???
Well bud, the only problem I saw with it is you must not be s-off. If that's the case then go to unrevoked.com and get what you need for your phone. I looked in your zip and for ****s and giggles flashed it to my phone and it worked as smoothly as mine does. Of course I had to flash back to mine. So your zip is good.

Yes its S-Off.... I have Cyanogen Mod on it... I can do everything else except change the boot splash...... I am at a loss why it's not working for me.... Followed the guide exactly...
EDIT::: Just tried the Unrevoked FOrever patch too.. still the same issue....
This is what the Bootloader says:
BRAVOC DVT2 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.98.0000
MICROP-051e
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-2.05.10.06.29

Everything seems right and correct... Oh well... I give up...
Does it give you the option to update, or does it flash a bunch of crap real quick then back to hboot? Maybe try and redownload my original. txt file and don't modify it at all, zip it up and try again. I was able to flash yours without changing the mainver: surprisingly.
And the unrevoked that you did was through recovery right?

yes it does exactly that.. flashes up a bunch of crap real quick then back to HBoot.. And yes I applied the Unrevoked forever with recovery too (which told me I already had S-OFF). I have also tried it with your original text file (which is why I edited the baseband as I thought that was the issue)..
Its pretty odd that it doesnt work at all.... its got me totally scratching my head atm.... Im gonna try a couple of other things, but I think I wont be able to do it until the next release of Unrevoked that allows the Fastboot stuff like the GSM Desire...
EDIT:: Just tried removing all zips from the root of the SDCard and only have the PM99IMG.zip there.. Still the same result...
Ok, when I first started to play with this I got the same thing. I uploaded the zip to ipfreely who then told me it was corrupt, if he couldn't open it then phone can't right. So the next night I stopped using my windows environment and went back to using the mac osx archiver and tried it again. This time it showed flash errors, that told me the zip was good but info bad. So now I strictly use my mac and that's also where my cs5 is at.
Point being don't give up. Two more suggestions, try a different archiver, and as stupid as it sounds download your zip attachment from your post straight to your phone, again sounds stupid but exhaust all possibilities!

To be honest, thinking about it, if it was the archiver I was using then it should not have worked (my archive) on your phone either. The fact that it did, says its nothing to do with the Archiver otherwise you would have had the same result as me....

I know I had an issue the first time around because I named the file PB99IMG.zip which really made it PB99IMG.zip.zip and it didn't show up. Probably not your issue but just a thought. Maybe you'd like to post the image, your baseband version, and we can make a file, test flash it and repost it for you to verify it works. Then, if it still doesn't work, we know it is your phone and possibly an issue with s-off that you may have to alert the unrevoked folks to. Try mounting /system to rw while booted and see if that works. That would be an indicator whether s-off is truly working.

something similar to s-off

i know questions should be posted elsewhere but this is more of a development question when i had my htc hero for sprint u could turn s-off and flash custom splash screens and u can flash recoverys and what not all with a zip placed on your sd card i was curious is this is possibe or if there is something similar on the samsung fascinate that would do the same thing. Thanks in advance

look for clockwork mod. it does what you are asking about.
No, thats not what he meant. He meant flashing CWM through the phones recovery itself, not through ODIN, or Heimdall. S-OFF is HTC's way of making it where you can flash unsigned packages through the phone, so you can swap whatever you wanted to on the fly, without having to ODIN, Which has a MUCH higher chance of bricking ( granted due to peoples own stupidity ).

this is what i meant it was really nice to be able to go back and forth with watever wanted to change
I was wondering about this also.
I would love to get rid of the samsung splash screen.
plus changing modems was a piece of cake.
Sent through mental telepathy.
Coming from a droid incredible to this.. I was quite surprised with how many more steps were necessary to install CWM as well as radios..
Granted it wasn't hard once you follow all the steps, but things such as DI01 and DL09 had me lost at first. Once I had Odin going though, everything took 5 mins but it was just a different experience lol
S-off stands for security off, you only have to flash the initial CWM package in odin. The rest of the time I have used CWM for everything. The boot splash screen is as easy as having the ones you want on your sd card and move them in root manager to /data/local and that will take priority, if you dont wipe data and flash a new rom your boot animation will still be there. 9 times out of 10 I will flash roms without data wipe and it works just fine, just so I dont have to reinstall all my apps, if it errors up then I will back out and wipe and reinstall.

Recovery / Bootloader

Ok, i realize i have a different phone from this thread but it is close and my problems closely reflect the issues ive seen with the Galaxy S.
A little background. Im no perfect i know what im doing when it comes to rooting. I have an HTC Tbolt and rooted many of those, an older touch pro 2, and this is first time doing a samsung. I am getting the hang of ODIN (i wish everyone would just use this program instead of bouncing back and forth between heimdall and ODIn but whatever) Im liking ODIN cause it works well. I was successful at flashing a new rom into this Samsung phone. 95% of it worked, wifi i think didnt but everything else worked. While trying to fix the phones wifi somehow i have stopped the phone from booting into CMW recovery unless forced or booting into a rom. I can get into CMW but i must hold down the Vol Down button to get there, otherwise a clean basic boot takes me to the stock android system recovery screen and will not boot a rom.
I have something backwards or out of order. I am just trying to get the rom to identify the installed CMW and the installed ROM through CMW but it wont do it.
Any help would be appreciated, i dont want my GF to find out i jacked her phone lol
Which phone do you have? SGS? I can just talk about SGS+ but I guess its similiar.
Try to install CWM with Odin, normally it should replace the stock recovery (haven't heard of both running at once).
Once you have installed CWM you can install your custom ROM with CWM (look at the install instructions).
If you want to install stock ROM with Odin it will replace your CWM with stock Recovery.
Post the link of the thread/recovery you want to flash.

Its a stratosphere. Im using the root and / or stock files in the root method. I use ODIN to flash the StratCWMRecovery.tar.md5 and if i tick "reboot" then it reboots into CWM i install a rom or stock rom and it finishes. I reboot the phone and it instantly goes back to android system recovery. If you like ill make a short video to give you an idea of whats going on.
I will note that im close to making a jig but its not 100% bricked obviously. 3 button method still works (and unecessary at this point since all the phone does is go straight into the stock bootloader) and then after i install CWM i can force it in to CWM but it wont actualy boot into it.
From a programing standpoint i feel the pointers or partitions are incorrect. Its like booting a computer that has a hard drive with windows installed however getting the bios to tell it to boot from the hard drive isnt working. THats the easiest way to explain this.
One thing i want to note is the only errors i am getting are when i try to partition the SD card from CWM. I get an error saying sdparted is not found.
I am not getting a full understanding of how the root system works on this phone.
Again any help is appreciated.
Made a short video. Its uploading now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFZ5Adm5AdQ
So whatever i did i was able to fix. I think me being a very visual person and normally having access to all files i need or could use in a situation is always nice. Here, i didnt but i found them. Here's the link. Its obviously for stratosphere but i took about 10 minutes and let ODIN install all these files and it worked.
original posting but the link doesnt work for download
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11183-eh2-full-factory-odin-restore/
where i downloaded it
http://www.fileswap.com/dl/t4D235pUTO/SCH-I405.EH2_rel.md5.html
Again this is for stratosphere. Since it really helped me return to stock and allow me to re root in about 15 minutes this thread should be moved but there is no stratosphere area
