I just wanted to ask you all why you exchanged your epic to get another one. What problems were you having? I'm on my second one and about to be third. My first one I got 3wks ago and came out of the box with dg27and would not update itself to di18. I did it myself but still I called sprint and talked to tech and they said it was a software issue. I have no idea. Second one came out of the box updated but freezes and backs out of apps. Also if I'm using wifi and turn it off my 3G icon doesn't immediately show up for like hours. Sometimes a battery pull is required to get the 3G to come back on and when it does if I'm downloading something the arrows that show something is being downloaded doesn't light up but it still loads webpages. I'm just worried I'm gonna get another one that won't update itself if I take this one back. I dont mind using odin but i shouldnt have to. What issues did you all have? Do you think if I exchanged mine now that it should come out of the box with di18. It's been out long enough?
I'm on my second one, I was past the 30 days so I was given a refurb. Surprisingly this refurb is better than the new one, which to me is quite weird.
Anyway, I had to return my original one because the Ambient light sensor stopped functioning.
I thought that if it's covered under the manufacturers warranty you got a new one not a refurb? That's what I get for thinking.
Wow. Where do I begin. I had a whole laundry list of problems. Still do. Apparently most were software and may or may not get fixed. But hardware-wise, I had a massive battery drain problem. Bought mine at launch, and Sprint replaced it after the 30 days, and that's without the extended warranty crap. That's good customer service. Finally got one without major problems, but I'm trading mine for an Evo in the next couple days, so it don't matter either way.
I'm on my 4th Epic!!!
My 1st phone the qwerty keyboard got all scratched up from opening & closing. From #3 to #6 all the way to the bottom
The 2nd wouldn't update the PRL, Firmware or Profile! I'd get an error message. It was (according to Sprint) a software problem
On the 3rd my 4G wouln't turn on. I'd pull the notification bar down, hit the 4G icon & nothing would happen. Sprint tech said basically the 4g radio was never "turned on" & it couldn't be fixed at the store. Also the door for the charger didn't click when I opened it so it would slide open & close by itself.
So far my 4th phone is working perfect.

Well I had a hero,than swapped to evo on launch day and 2 weeks ago I swapped to the epic 4g. And I mus say that I am happy w the epic...rooted running stock...
i had 1 replacement, but semi my fault. i used to only use the dock to charge and got a ghost image of the dock clock. see below.

I returned my first unit before I even got to play with it due to some dead pixels. Second unit is almost flawless, but lately I haver noticed that the slider is getting loose. I have tep, but am reluctant to take it in because I can't tell if it's just in my head after reading about other people having that problem.

I am currently having some troubles with my volume-up button...it doesn't react to all presses and there will be times where I'm driving and I try to increase the volume and it will take 5 presses to activate it. If I try pressing it five times later, it might register all 5 presses. If I send it in for a device swap (the one where they ship you a new phone) what will happen if they get the device and come to the conclusion that the volume-up button is fine? Will they keep the $500+ deposit?
Additionally my vibration motor sometimes completely stops responding for a period of time but I can't seem to figure out what triggers it to do that, and it doesn't happen often but it happens enough to bother me as it's pretty hard to use the touch softkeys when they don't have any feedback! I considered it was just CM6 as my old phone never had that problem and I didn't recall my new phone having that problem when it was running stock 2.2, but now with an AOSP gingerbread rom it exhibited the same problem for a few minutes.
What can I do? I would send it in for repair but I won't be around to pick it up and while my parents can keep it while I'm gone it's a bit useless to spend $400 on a phone and not be able to use it, right?
You have to be nuts to do anything in those terms. Giving your phone and a full value deposit? And not being sure of the rules for them to keep it? Where do you live? North korea?
On the other hand I'm trying for months to get an answer from google about my buggy touch screen and I'm still ignored.

HTC wont charge you for a swap unless they don't receive the phone within 10 business days of you receiving the swap. And even then, they will call you before charging you the $500 deposit.
My power button would only work half the time. I had the same worry as you.
Just don't worry. Get a replacement, and send yours in after you get your new one, easy as that.

That's because everyone's got buggy touchscreens. Only solution is to buy a different phone
As far as the device swap, I had a positive experience when I bought one secondhand and it had a problem with rebooting when it got too hot, and they had a new phone to me in a day or two. That was an obvious problem, but I'm just curious about something minor like this.
ANYTHING wrong your phone (edit -- besides software related mess-ups you did yourself) allows a swap. Even dust under the screen!
The severity of the problem has nothing to do with anything! If something isn't working, they'll give you a new one.
HTC really are the ****... Let's just hope they keep it up, as they get bigger and bigger.

Do we get a refurb or new replacement?i just sent mine coz i was having boot loop problems.
I've decided I'm going to get a replacement from HTC and send mine back when I get back from vacation. My power button started going out a while ago but with a combination of the app I created, LockMyDroid, and Trackball wake, I only need to use the power button once every 2-3 weeks.
The only reason I haven't done anything until now is that I've been debating if I'm going to regret giving up my AMOLED screen for an SLCD. I think if I had them side-by-side I'd be able to tell a difference but since I will likely sell my N1 in a few months for a Tegra2 device it would be nice to have it as close to mint condition as possible. I bought mine January 6th so my time to get a replacement is definitely running out
If you're looking for them to send you a replacement, I hope your bootloader isn't unlocked. (You mentioned running the AOSP Gingy rom.)
Just send it in for repair. A signature is required for delivery anyway so they won't just leave it on your doorstep. You can opt to pick it up at a FedEx location as well.

Locked or unlocked doesn't matter, as long as its hardware related. I've heard this many times that they acknowledge unlocked bootloaders.

I had the power button fail on mine and was told that since they are not making N1 phones anymore the phone would be a refurbished model if I chose the replacement option. I purchased my phone on the 1st week of Jan 2010 and was not willing to give up my AMOLED screen so I chose the repair option. Sent it in today via overnight prepaid label. Wiped the dust off the old Samsung phone I had and I am using that until my N1 comes back.
For those that had an amoled than received an lcd were you disappointed? Could you tell the difference? Mine has a couple stuck pixels. Debating on whether it would be worth it or not to warranty out.

I'm honestly hoping I get an SLCD because I'm sick of the fuziness the pentile layout creates as well as how red-tinged the display gets when the brightness is low. Got a device swap back in august and it was still an AMOLED unit, no idea what this one will be.
Update on my N1 repair (power button failure). I sent the unit out on 12/22 via fedex overnight, HTC got my N1 on 12/23, did the repair and sent it out the same day. I am scheduled for delivery today!!!!! That is the quickest turn around time I have ever experienced for any kind of repair. I did not think there was any chance I would get my N1 back before the holiday.
FYI, my N1 has an unlocked bootloader, rooted with the Evil Desire Rom on it. HTC obviously did not have any problem with that. I am glad I chose the repair option instead of the replacement option. I have taken great care of my N1, had the full Skinomi skin and most of all the AMOLED screen. Only bad thing is I have to stay home to wait for the delivery.
My power button has been going out the past few months, sometimes taking up to 5 times to turn it on. I'm guessing it will probably die soon enough. It probably would have died long before now if it weren't for me using trackball wake from CyanogenMod (but I still use the power button every so often such as when my hands are closer to the power button than the trackball).
Anyway, I called HTC recently and I'm going to do a swap. My warranty ends in just a few days, so I thought I'd get it fixed before then.
For those of us who bought the Nexus last January, the warranty is about to expire. Anyone else doing any service this week (or month) before it expires?
Motivated by you, I called HTC too about my power button issues. They told me swap option is not available to me (no idea why).
Since I have a few scratches on my screen too, I was looking forward to the swap option
My phone is unlocked so I did not request a repair on power button yet (I have 2 more months in warranty). I might wait and watch if the problem gets any worse.

They actually told me I was out of warranty (no idea why since I bought my phone mid-January). So he said he would put a note on it explaining that it has been less than 1 year so there's no reason why I'd be out of warranty.
Maybe call back and get someone else. If you bought it less than 1 year ago, the swap should be available. Or ask why they're saying it's not an option.

Aaah, thanks for that info. I called again and the reason they gave me that replacement is not possible because Canada charges HTC custom tax on the shipped phone which is why they are only doing replacement for Canadian phones.
However, he said that if I have a US address (which I do) then they can ship a replacement device to that address. Now I'm contemplating if I should go forward with this.
The two things that worry me are:
1) I have some scratches on my screen which are not covered under warranty
and
2) My bootloader is unlocked
Will these 2 things cause my phone to be out of warranty causing HTC to charge $500 on my credit card for the replacement device they send me?

I did a swap by using a friends address. HTC reps didn't care, and were actually the ones who suggested it to me. So if you can, have it sent to a friend/family member in the US and go pick it up from them if possible. At worst they'll have to ship it to you, but you'll also have to ship your phone to them so they can ship it back to HTC to complete the swap. HTC will only send you a shipping label good for within the US if doing the swap.
Is there really a hardware issue with the power button? I ask because I do sometimes have trouble getting my N1 to acknowledge a power button press and wake up but have never had a problem when I push the power button to put the phone to sleep. Wouldn't it have a problem both turning on and off? Whenever I have the problem it seems like the phone is busy, usually something to do with the radio switching between WiFi and cellular. Or do I have a different problem?

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't realize you were in Canada.
I didn't say anything about my unlocked bootloader Many people have posted and said HTC swapped their unlocked device without issue, so /shrug. Maybe they ding me, maybe they don't.

Yeah, power button failure seems to be a common issue. Supposedly there is a little plastic piece in there that gets worn out.
You're right; I've only noticed the power button failure when attempting to turn ON the phone... Hmm.. Could be the way the contacts inside are wired, who knows?

They were sold from March until around late summer. The warranty is a year long either way.
I'll be in the same boat in a couple of months. I got the ATT version the first week it was sold and my power button is completely gone out for the second time. The first time, I sent it in with Cyanogen installed and they didn't care. I opted for repair, but the repair is to swap motherboards so, if the phone isn't scratched up, there's not much difference between repair and replace.
I was going to swap after Christmas but I've been using trackball wake and Invisible Lock Widget for about a month and don't miss the power button anymore. But I'll still probably get it fixed before the warranty is out, no reason not to.

right, but they quit selling the AT&T version after they shut the online store down. you could only get the TMobile from the Google Dev store, so I assume that HTC isn't sitting on a surplus of devices to swap.. just a guess, but I bet AT&T devices get repaired, not a new IMEI

Maybe they have some stocked up because after giving them my IMEI (which is that of the AT&T model), he said if I have an address in US then I can get my phone swapped (new IMEI).

It was a few months ago but I got two swaps of my AT&T phone. The first one had a goofy screen.

I don't know, I just know what they said and did in my own repair experience. I asked if swapping meant I would get a new one or a refurbished one and they said it would most likely be refurbished because they rarely had new ones. This was months ago. Also, with a repair where they switch the motherboard, I think you actually get a new IMEI. Mine had a new IMEI anyway. I thought they switched phones until I read that the fix for a bad power button was to swap the motherboard, so I assume the IMEI is in it.
I had several scratches on my screen, an unlocked bootloader and chunks missing from the bottom and top of the phone where it was dropped. I did the swap option and I wasn't charged. As long as the screen scratches don't look worse than normal wear and tear I would think you would be fine.

My warranty wont be out for another year and a half I think, since Im in Austria, and European laws are some kind different. Anyway. My powerbutton hardly works and I would be very interested in anyone having experience with european htc. do they swap? do they charge? also could I send my phone to the us (friends) and get a replacement by the us htc since they seem kinda "nice". Im really not sure what to do. I get along with the lock screen widget and trackball wake but well a new phone doesnt sound bad either... so anyone knows anything about sending phones to the us from europe or replacing / repairing in the uk?

First I'll start of with my phone and the issues.
I bought my Nexus One AT&T version around June of 2010. Rooted it with without unlocking bootloader, ran a few different roms, then one day BAM vibration stopped working, but after a few screen on-offs or tapping my phone in my hand it would come back. After countless attempts to fix the issue such as master clears, flash back to original shipping, and finally in a last ditch effort UNLOCKED the bootloader so I had unrestricted access to rectify the problem. Nothing worked and finally had to accept the fact the little vibration motor had quit on me.
I called up HTC in December about the week before christmas and told them the problem which they agreed was a hardware issue. Not once did they ask if my bootloader was unlocked nor did I offer up that information. They offered me the two options of either a swap or send in my unit for repair. I choose the swap option for fear that they would get my phone, run tests, and not reproduce the issue since it was intermittent for me. Here is the scary part to do the swap they needed a hold on my credit card for $528.00 , risky to say the least since my bootloader was unlocked but seeing as it was hardware failure I was willing to risk it and hope the charge would drop off once they received the phone. In preparation to send my phone back I flashed back to completely stock removing root.
The next day the phone arrived FedEx . First thing I noticed was that my battery cover fit much more snug with no gaps and did not stick out just slightly above the top. Next the power button and volume buttons were much firmer. And of course the vibration was strong as an ox . Also to note it shipped with 2.2.1 (not D) and had the 5.08 radio, Hboot 35 and the AMOLED screen NOT SLCD. All in all the replacement seemed much better than my original, lol.
Now seeing as christmas was so close I wasn't able to FedEx it back to them (they provided the label) for almost a week. But once I sent it off it was overnighted to them and received without issue. Plus the hold on my credit card was also dropped!
So to sum it up I had an AT&T Nexus one with Bootloader Unlocked, bad vibration motor, got it swapped out under warranty, was not charged a dime, and am now even more of an HTC fan and happy to have a fully functional Nexus One.

I'm worried now because my power button isn't *totally* dead but the email they sent has the issue listed as "defective power button". So I hope they don't just press it once, see that it works, and call me a liar. I did tell the rep I spoke to that it was intermittent. Anyway, I hope my case works out like yours.
Mine is coming back from repair on Tuesday
I live in the UK and mine was piked up on the 30th Dec (phoned on the 29th) as my power button is dying slowly for the second time (first repair was in Sept '10 so not long ago!) and I was concerned that as I bought mine on the release date (5th Jan) I would be screwed if I left it any longer with only days left. That was until the lady at HTC UK told me that my warranty runs out on the 25th Dec 2011. Seems as an earlier poster mentioned that EU warranties are 2yrs which is nice for me.
I'm still wondering whats going to happen with this power button fiasco. The HTC agent wasn't aware of any known problem with them (not saying much really is it?) but said I could appeal the repair charges and some "arrangement" could be made (50% off or something to that effect). Anyway, that's just under a year away and I might start getting a bit pissed with them and start requesting that this isn't acceptable to keep sending my phone off every couple of months for 2 weeks at a time while a small part is replaced in my phone!
The first time it went back for the power button, (first time was in March for soft keys acivating when 1/3rd way down screen, got replaced for current unit with different touch screen revision) I had the phone unlocked with the infamous unlocked padlock symbol glaring at me every boot up. I sent it off and HTC just repaired the faulty button and flashed a locked 2.1 image, no questions (took almost a month to get back though!). Sweet! Now it was just a case of using one of the one-click root type apps and away I went.
Quick question guys: How likely is it that we'll get SLCD screens if we get a swap right now?

I need some advice or suggestions on what to do. The Mytouch 4g, as you all may know, has a lot of problems. I've done many exchanges now, and some of them were done back to back. The first few times, TMO was able to ship express for free, but now they are charging me $9.99 for regular ground shipping even though the phones that I receive are defective. I am very frustrated at this point and have been thinking about canceling all 4 of my lines with them and eating the $800 ETF. What do you guys think I should do?

Unlike the fellow perfectionists that you guys are, I never exchanged a phone that had a bad screen or squeaking buttons. The first time I exchanged it was because it had two dead pixels, then the power button would no longer work, then there was a ton of dust under the screen to the point where I had trouble seeing the top left corner where my status/notification bar is, then I had wifi and reception problems, then I've had the phone either shut off or reboot on its own.
I've been running into many, many problems - and they are not always the same problem either. After the third phone, all they have been doing is sending out refurbished units that are 'pre-damaged' by the previous user. On top of that, I have to pay for shipping on each phone, plus the Zagg's invisible shield (it's about $23 with labor on installation) that I had on several of the replacement phones. After troubleshooting for hours on end with tech support, I noticed that my battery cover is loose since they had me reboot/remove battery so many times, I ended up buying the gel skin case from TMO yesterday so that the battery cover wouldn't fall off.
I would be glad to take any advice that you guys have at this point. Thank you.
Edit: By the way, I did not have any apps other than opera mini - didn't even update youtube and things like that.
The statistical likelihood of getting 9 defective devices in a row is astronomical. Truly. If you are being honest and these are all really manufacturing defects then you sir are the unluckiest ****er ever and you are never welcome to babysit my kids. I don't really have any advice except to say that if your next problem is software related, try rooting and see if that fixes it. Otherwise I would avoid crosswalks and commercial flight if at all possible. Damn dude. Unlucky...

Do this. Call tmobile and tell them the issue with your device. Have them do another warranty exchage, but, instead of getting it shipped, tell them that you really do not want to wait once more to receive another device shipped and that if you can go into a tmo store and pick up a warranty replacement. They shouldn't have a problem telling you yes. Have them call the store so they can tell them you will be going in to get a warranty replacement. This way for sure you wont get a refurbished device. You will be getting a brand new one out of the box. This is the way I did my warranty exchage. They even gave me an extra battery for free.

I agree with coupetastic-droid and also after your 5th replacement you should get a different phone if u want for ur replacement. Try for a g2 or even a g2x!

Yep, that courtesy ended with a new policy about 3-4 weeks ago and it can't be overridden.

TJ you crack me up. I actually went through this guys episode with a mytouch slide, 5 phones under warranty, but they never charged me a dime for shipping. The one and only issue i had with the Mytouch slide was dust under the screen. I can't remember if it was the 3rd or the 4th replacement i got in the mail, but that one came with dust in all four corners. Didn't even insert a SIM card in that phone just took it down to my local Tmobile store and the manager exchanged it for me. After the 5th replacement with dust i decided to sell it and replace it with a MT4G. Well it was all good for a week until my power button failed to work, 1st exchange. They made me pay the 9.99 shipping for that one. Receive the new phone and i notice the display sucks compared to my wife's MT4G. Instead of calling in to tmobile i drive down to the local Tmobile store and i show the manager my predicament ( mind you this is the same guy that was exchanging my Mytouch Slide). Nice guy orders me another MT4G, waived the shipping. 3rd phone arrives a few days later, display is washed out, but i decide to live with it. Figuring that if i exchange it again I'll get another one with the crappy display. F**K me if the power button doesn't work after two weeks. I go back to the Tmobile store and have another chat with the manager, orders me another MT4G and waives the shipping. Manager tells me, "You're the unluckiest man i've seen with a phone", and i said "yes, yes, I am." Last exchange was the charm, good screen, and the power button actually works. I honestly thought i was the only poor bastard that could be this unlucky with phones. I have to show my wife this post, so she doesn't think i'm the unluckiest man alive. You sir have just made my day. If you can i'd go to a local tmobile store and see what they can do for you. Best of luck.

Im on my 4th right now. 2 power buttons and 1 with dust under screen. All good displays tho. All within a month and a week of getting it

Unlike the fellow perfectionists that you guys are, I never exchanged a phone that had a bad screen or squeaking buttons. The first time I exchanged it was because it had two dead pixels, then the power button would no longer work, then there was a ton of dust under the screen to the point where I had trouble seeing the top left corner where my status/notification bar is, then I had wifi and reception problems, then I've had the phone either shut off or reboot on its own.
I've been running into many, many problems - and they are not always the same problem either. After the third phone, all they have been doing is sending out refurbished units that are 'pre-damaged' by the previous user. On top of that, I have to pay for shipping on each phone, plus the Zagg's invisible shield (it's about $23 with labor on installation) that I had on several of the replacement phones. After troubleshooting for hours on end with tech support, I noticed that my battery cover is loose since they had me reboot/remove battery so many times, I ended up buying the gel skin case from TMO yesterday so that the battery cover wouldn't fall off.
I would be glad to take any advice that you guys have at this point. Thank you.
Edit: By the way, I did not have any apps other than opera mini - didn't even update youtube and things like that.

First of all, nice 'Lude. I just picked up an 07 Civic Si Sedan on Saturday and I ****ing LOVE it!
2nd, are you running stock Sense or rooted? To be perfectly honest I've found the stock Sense to be much more buggy than the cm7 I've been running for the past 3 or 4 months.
My first phone had random reboots and such and a factory reset seemed to solve the issue, but I'm assuming they had you do that multiple times.
Even if the phone is fresh out of the box, do a factory reset before you use it. It might help, it did for me.
Otherwise check out cm7 or one of the Sense roms around here. Removing all the bloatware actually does wonders for stability. If you really want I can upload a nandroid of my own stock rom with the bloatware removed.
On my 3rd mt4g and I'm about ready to go back to iPhone most androids have to many hardware issues.

Anyway, back on topic..
The phone is completely stock. This is the FIRST PHONE I've ever owned that I have kept stock - Why? Because I don't want to have to unroot it when I send it in for warranty repairs.

Unrooting is as simple as flashing pd15img.zip through hboot. Not that hard.
Definitely try a different rom. As I said I've found cm7 to be much more stable than stock.
Sorry about your car. I never fully got over the 95 GS-R I crashed back in 05. since then I've been driving an ls.

i got pretty bad luck with my phone. finally got a good one after like 9 exchanges and a month later the power button went out. i called them and they told me i couldnt exchange anymore cause i "had too many problems with the phone." so the rep told me that the only thing they could do left is to exchange my phone for a motorola charm.....i was like wtf why the heck would i want to downgrade my phone, which polly cost more then that piece of **** charm and it doesnt even run android...major downgrade.
Dude. That blows. Hard. I'm sorry to see that you're having so many problems with your phone and I'm glad I don't have the same luck as you. I got mine from eBay and it came in perfect condition. Never had dust under the screen, good screen, no faulty hardware, etc.
But in all seriousness, after 5 phones, I wouldn't keep it. I personally think that it's a great phone, but if I had to take it back 9 times, I'd try something else out. Ask if you can switch. It shouldn't cost you anything as long as the retail price is equivalent or lower than the MyTouch 4g, and if I'm not mistaken, it's one of the higher priced ones (rightfully, so). If you don't hate a keyboard, the G2 might be good for you, but I hear the hinge has problems and knowing your luck, the hinge would break apart upon first use. So maybe the Galaxy S 4g? I know Samsung has great hardware, even if their software is crap, as is their update schedules, but that is easily fixed with custom ROMs.
Either that, or wait and return it completely, if you're still within your return time and keep your upgrade for when the better phones come out, i.e HTC Sensation, etc, and just use something affordable off of eBay or Craigslist. Meh
Just my two cents. Sorry if it didn't help much, but I hope your luck gets better. :/

My luck has gotten worse. I received another replacement phone on April 15th. A week later, April 22nd, I noticed a dead pixel on my screen.
*Sigh* I have no idea what to do now.
You need to move on to a different device. I've never heard of anyone have so many problems with a device.

I called in and spoke to technical support. They asked me to bring the phone to a store so that they can fill out a request for warranty exchange form. However, their tone basically implied something like, "It's impossible that you are getting so many broken phones. We need to verify that your phone is really defective before we do another exchange."
I brought it to a store and the retail sales manager had no idea why technical support sent me there, and basically told me to go call customer service again. He did, however, notate that there were a few dead pixels on the screen and that there was no physical, nor was there water damage.
I then called retentions and the supervisor picks up (without any transferring either). I explained to her exactly what happened, and how technical support had sent me into the store. She told me that she has no idea why because they could have filled out the form for warranty exchange over the phone, just like the other exchanges that I have done so far.
She apologized for what happened and said that I qualify for a multiple exchange (sorry if I got the term wrong!). She said that the manufacturer would exchange my Mytouch 4g for a Motorola Charm..
I explained that it would be a MAJOR downgrade. She then submits the form for the exchange and told me that it would be shipped express free of charge.
So you getting another mt4g or the charm? I'm still teipping about them offering you a charm over a mt4g. They are nuts!

Another MyTouch4g.. Hopefully the 10th one's the charm!
My gf and I both have atrix phones and I'm on my 2nd one. it's been fine so far, it runs ICS etc etc
well, she is on her 3rd one and this one is having problems already
1st one the digitizer stopped working
2nd one speaker wasn't working
3rd one the notification bar keeps disappearing. factory reset does not fix it
I don't want to root her phone or anything so she wants to keep it stock (and she should)
We talked to motorola and they told us to factory reset. told them we did, and they pretty much said do it again... wtf #1
after I told her to call AT&T and they told her the same thing. We told them it was already factory reset once about an hour ago, and they said to take it back to the service center and get a 4th one.... problem is, she can't this week because this was her only day off. (I guess they forget we can't keep going back to the service center because we work) they also suggested when we get the 4th one to play around with it for about an hour at the place so we know it works.... seriously?
3 phones and 2 of them broke within a week (the notification bar happens about 10 mins after starting the phone)
does anyone have any suggestions on this problem we're having? We can go back and get a 4th one, but jeez... 4 phones? I think it's time they give her something else

Hmm... it seems like you just have bad luck.
What you could try to do is ask AT&T to give you both new Atrix 2's free of charge.
You can explain how it's not your fault that all of this is happening and that they should value that you are their customer.
It's worth a shot and I think you have a good chance at convincing them to do this. You'll probably need to sign a new 2-year contract though.
I would tell AT&T you are tired of Motorola and the problems with the phones and aske for a Skyrocket to replace them with. Worth a shot if you want to upgrade and get away from Motorola.
Mine was sent once cos digitizer stopped working, then month later I had random reboots even on stock. They send me new one and its fine. I dont mind as long as they offer replacement.

hey bro i work for att and its because when you get a replacement they send you the ****tiest of the phones they have .. they will be refurbished and they will be ones they cant re sell . call and tell the your six mos in your contract and that a rep said you were eligible for an exception.

My first Atrix never worked out of the box. Sent in for repair, didn't work. Sent in again, worked for a week, something else broke.
Got a NEW replacement from Motorola after much *****ing and escalating to BBB & executive customer service and have not had any problems yet, except it came with a non-working factory battery that was replaced after two months of being ignored.
I'm hesitant to buy another Motorola because their support team makes it a nightmare to get your phone fixed or replaced.

yep. had 4 Atrix already... the more att replaced my phone, the worse it got.
New atrix -> bluetooth audio stream keeps disconnecting --> Moto said, go get it replaced because it should not do that...
1st replacement -> refurbished... same problem... called Moto again and att service center --> go get it replaced.
2nd replacement -> refurbished... same bluetooth problem, with additional random reboot. i check phone to look at time, press power button -> reboots.... a lot... --> replacement time... but wait... "we cannot replicate the problem" says att service center representative, "thus we cannot replace it"...
me: it is "RANDOM"... they played with it for 5 mins and could not replicate the problem..
att service center representative told me to call att replacement center who said "why wouldn't they replace it? all we're going to do is the same thing they would, which is replace the phone".. att service center: "our policy is, if we cannot replicate problem, we do not replace"
with much frustration, finally got a hold of someone higher up who was willing to replace phone...
3rd replacement coming from so called higher up -> refurbished... status bar disappears... cannot answer calls, bluetooth problems, wrong battery gauge... out of att options... last option, send it in for repairs at Moto... will be getting phone back tomorrow.. will see how phone works... crossed fingers, it would work as it should...
Yeah, the motorola phones boast a lot of features, but even with the motorola razor in the past, I remember disliking it due to unreasonable security restrictions and random bgs.
i have been with att for many years and dealt with alot of **** and like our friend the att rep said its a refurbished device so it had problems before so its bound to again, see i got the atrix with the 99 cent deal and after one with one problem i called moto and att and i got a new atrix to replace my old one, which had a chip in the fingerprint reader and no rubber around the camera lens, call and beg plead and lie it works every time lol take it from someone who has been through 20 phones in 4 years if its the phone they provided you with they will replace it, alos only 3 or 4 out of that 20 i actually broke the rest were refurbs and refurbs of a different make and model, good luck OP you should get it right eventually
It isn't just Motorola. I have had the same problems with HTC, Sony, and Nokia. My son had 4 iphones replaced. It is a refurb problem. Just keep complaining and eventually you might get one that lasts.
i have just received back my phone from motorola... and guess what... FAIL! my phone has not be repaired! they did not input the problem i told them about so all they did was flash the software.
I'd been on the phone with them for a good 3-4 hrs to get my phone replaced/repaired. In order for motorola to "replace" the phone, they need to verify with ATT that the phone had been replaced at least 3 times. They need the Serial no. or IMEI no. of the phones that had been replaced, and they cannot guarantee that I will receive a new phone. problem is, I do not keep the serial numbers/IMEI numbers of the phone I get, so I advice you guys to write it down or something just in case stupid things like this happen
I replaced my atrix 4 times because of a ****ing nice issue. People hear me like im in a tunnel .... garbled and far away. I still don't have it right but I kept it since it fell in water. It works perfectly because I pulled battery immediately but I can't return it because the white dot is now red.

same here. my digitizer went bad, refurb had messed up contacts for sdcard and wouldn't see it. Next refurb the screen was not aligned good, could see light bleed around the edges. I fixed the contacts on the second one and sent the last one back. Oh yea the phone also had the drop bluetooth problem, but that seems to have been fixed after flashing.
About puked when i first turned on the phone on and saw all that att bloat crap on there.

hmm, i never knew what that white dot signify. thought it was some kind of special phone if it has a different color.
