So I just got a call from Sprint saying that I was eligible to receive a free Palm Pixi with a small account upgrade. Is this something they do often, and has anyone else gotten a call? Is it just for Evo owners? Should I replace my Evo with the Palm Pixi?(LOL jk)
they seem to be getting more involved with their customers, im getting the same promos for various phones, they offered me a 199 evo just yesterday and a free blackberry like 2 months ago, i also got some kind of loyalty offer today, havent bothered to read it yet
Just so you know, the pixi is free for all new lines right now...
and going from an EVO to the pixi is a pretty major step down. I wonder if anyone ever actually takes them up on that offer.

I called for a little assistance with my account about 2 months ago and out of nowhere the fit offers me a $70 credit to renew the 2 year contract on my line and assured me it wouldn't effect my upgrade in Dec. Now that I think of it I wonder if my next upgrade after that will be Dec of '11 or a year from my recent renewal.. I've been had! lol

Your contract date and your upgrade date are independent of each other. Renewing your contract doesn't change your upgrade date, so you will still get your upgrade a year from your last upgrade.

At this point they should be paying you $100+ to sign a 2 year contract with the outdated phone. What is sad is that Sprint does not have a more current android phone without the dumb 4G tax.

the hero is only a year old next month. it's still a decent phone. tbh the evo will be considered outdated as well by x-mas. the thing that worries me is the fact sprint has not announced their fall/winter lineup yet. i really hope the hero2 or updated desire is coming.
i do not want nor need a 4g phone. the $10 coolness fee is a joke and 4g kills your battery big time.

this is only for new customers, not for renewing customers . A good deal for a new customer non the less since best buys best price right now is 99 bucks. My parents and my girlfriend just switched to sprint and recieved this for a penny. This phone maybe outdated to some advanced users here but my parents and gf dont qualify as advanced and they love their new phones. Also a side note sprint canceled their referal program but I played stupid and asked if we both get a 25 dollar credit for the referal and they did it for me when activating my parents but said they no longer honor the program when activating my gf, so I guess it depends on who you speak too.

sounds like sprint is in a damned if you do damned if you dont situation. They rolled out the evo and the epic and raced to do it with 4g coverage and now we want a phone like the evo and epic minus the 4g.lol
I didn't see anyone mention that they had received the dreaded letter documenting the changes to the Premier program on 4/1/11, so I took a picture of the one I just received.
I got mine today also, lucky for me I have been with Sprint for over 10 years so I have the gold status ... kinda a bummer for anybody that doesnt have 10 years or over the $$$ limit.
Yeah I got mine. Sort of sucks I loose the yearly upgrade now. I was with nextel since around 2002 but they don't seem to count that time. I switched to sprint shortly after they merged. Only at the 4 year mark now. Actually what year did they merge? It must have been before 2006?

I called sprint to see what my contract start date once I heard about the new Premier requirements. I knew I've been a customer for over ten years but they had my start date as May 2002. I questions them about it since I knew I've been a customer since early 2000. I ended up finding out that they changes my contract date when I applied a corporate discount back in May of 2002. For some reason in order to receive the discount they had to put me on the same billing cycle as my corporation which messed everything. I had the issue escalated and they were able to research and find my original contract in 2000. Wow something actually when my way! Anyway they have made comments on my file that will allow me to receive the Gold status because of my 10 year tenure. Very happy about this.
I feel bad for the people that had previous accounts with Nextel and are not eligible for the Gold status. I mean 10 years with one celluar carrier is a really long time. Especially when you consider that mainstream cellular phone use wasn't the norm much more than 10 years ago.
I'll have to make sure to follow up in April when the new policy becomes effective. Hopefully they'll stand by their word and give me the Gold Status that they promised me.
Woot, my 10 yrs is April 14th, just talked to confirmed with CS that I'll be golden...

I think all those affected should be writing the BBB and state's attorney's office. This is very indicative of a bait and switch. Please don't say this is a perk and is subject to changes. It's a perk that's used to sell the service/company, then the co does a switch in terms so the customer no longer qualifies. You were baited, and then terms were switched. I think with some pressure, sprint will honor this for one more annual upgrade.

Yeah, that's one way, the other way is to force roam, then wait a few months for them to cancel you, hopefully with ETFs.
I'd actually like to jump sprint at this point...their 3g is suckass lately. Lucky to get 200 down anymore in Idaho; 4G is barely 1 down, when you have signal (we have clear locally, and it gets 5 down)...Sprint is horrible. I wanna go back to att or tmo. ;(
We switched to sprint because they were cheapest/had discounts/yearly perks, but the discounts dropped to 2 lines and now the yearly upgrades are gone, so there's no point to stay with sprint anymore.
ESPECIALLY since ATT just introduced ANY MOBILE UNLIMITED today!

Yea sprint is doing away with the yearly upgrades unless you are a premium member or whatever it's call. Basically if your not spending a certain amount you lost it

It's always been like that, the price just went up on qualifications. They're not "doing away" with anything.
My line qualified for an upgrade on 10/10, and I just asked tonight, and they said since I have already earned it, it will remain until I choose to use it. Sounds ideal to me, those that earned the privilege during the terms of the offer should be entitled to keep it, and for everyone else the terms just got stretched out longer.

Look like you WILL lose your upgrade.
I just found this page on Sprint's website.
http://premier.sprint.com/premierupdate/faq.html
Here's the part that confirms you will lose your upgrade.
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.

This is a bit misleading. Yes, you get the $75 upgrade after 12 months, but this is simply $75 off the full retail price of the phone. When you get the "$150" upgrade, you actually get the same pricing that a new customer does, including rebates. So, this ends up being more like a $300 discount.

Here's how it was explained to me; Existing Gold members who have an upgrade date before Oct. 2 can update b/t now and then and receive a second yearly update that expires 12/31/12. Silver members are basically SOL unless you are very close to your 10 year anniversary in which exceptions are being made as that was the case for me. No one can go from Silver to Gold after 10/2.

*Once they take advantage of their Premier annual upgrade, they will qualify for subsequent upgrades under the New for You Upgrade program.

Go to the Sprint website champ, it should tell you everything you need to know as soon as you sign in.
The other day my friends OG Evo broke (charging port), And she took it sprint, They did a 90$ buy back plan for her Evo and she paid 5$ more and was able to purchase a Epic Touch 4g at upgrade price 199$ her upgrade isnt due till june, I thought she just got lucky but 2 days ago i took my phone in to get fixed because i had a blown speaker and they offered me the same deal, my upgrade isnt due till October 1st, i declined it, i love my OG Evo until something worth upgrading comes out. So im guesing if you had your evo near launch day you can probably get the same deal unless its just my local sprint store doing that offer. Let me know if anyone else gets this offer.

How is this nothing special? Getting an early upgrade? I mean, if this is common, I'm gonna be all over this, haha.
When the Evo 4G LTE comes out, or the Samsung GSIII is released, I'm going to be drooling over them! I'm not eligible for an upgrade until April of 2013. If they offer me the upgrade price on those two devices prior to my upgrade, I will be dancing in the streets!
Thanks to the OP for this hope!
Sprint has the buy up program for all customers who are within a year or so of their upgrade. I did this for my wife on her line last month. Our eligibility date isn't until November. I purchased the early upgrade for a little over eighty dollars and then got her the new phone for the new contract price.

Wow, this is terrific news! So do you think that when the new wave of phones begins trickling out this summer, I'll be able to do the same then (my upgrade is 04/2013)? Also, what do you mean by "purchasing" the early upgrade? There's an official program to buy an early upgrade? Or is it an unofficial thing going on all over?
I did this back in December and upgraded to the 3D. And op is right this is exclusively for the og Evo. Basically they are offering this to Evo users because of the og Evo's faulty USB port and battery life. Thats what the service rep who did the upgrade for me explained to me.
