Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 user experience and stuff

Hi all,
today I got a X10 unit (here in Croatia there was a press conference) and X10 come with localized Android 1.6 Cupcake operating system.

I just put battery in side and connect to Internet.
Device is great, solid construction (I also have HTC Legend), it is fast, but without multitouch

Can you, please, confirm the presence of AWS (WDCMA-IV) 1700MHz band support?
BTW Android v1.5 was Cupcake, your X10 is running Donut.
PS: I don't give a flying f*ck about multitouch, it's a classic gimmick with no use for me - I prefer to be able use my phone with one hand instead of having to perform some two-handed gymnastics nonsensical gymnastics, only to gain nothing but lose safety when, say, I'm riding a train or driving a car or walking with my daughter holding her hand.

Well, I am playing with X10 for few hours, and I think that the main problem is 1.6 Android, in comparation with Legend (which I have) it is slightly slower. This can be seen in putting widgets.

What you see is the "Donut lag" - it is a common problem among Donut-based devices.
After someone releases a 2.x port it should be gone.

Well, we will sit and wait and I will continue to use my HTC Legend, hope to see upgrade rom from SE on 2.1

I know they will, it's only the question of when...

Thanks but I won this device and also HTC Legend, last week (what can I say, best week in my life- HTC Legend was in press conference,and SE Xperia x10 on SE event- I am ICT yournalist and editor in chief of Croatian e-zine about smartphones).
So I am very lucky, but as I said, it is good device, with big potential, so in comparation with Legend, Legend has smoother UI (HTC Sense) and implementation of services, but all thanks to 2.1 Eclair, so we wait update on X10.
Today I got him, so I will play with him a while, so we will se how it goes..
my main concern is TFT screen, because AMOLED screens are much better.

No idea, ask sony phaggyson, I guess they think cheap phones with great hardware that are more than capable of running 2.3 still wont get them good money even if they update it..
fkn companies, this thing is way better than the wildfire i can't get my head around why they don't wanna update it.

You're a bit late there.

You can use a custom ROM (for example the Racht's ones) to upgrade your OS Android to 2.2 or 2.3.

Custom ROM has some bugs so it is not fully FROYO and GINGERBREAD but it is in evolve so we will have good custom ROMs in future but BE PATIENT!

Phone with lower CPU can have froyo installed on it. X8 should be sufficient running froyo, either it cost lot of money to support X8 or SE think why should support 'old' series when they can make money from new one with upgrade OS.

I agree. This was my first smartphone, so I had no idea what I was getting; I just wanted a dirt cheap android phone I could mess around with. With all the mods, hacks, and especially racht's custom ROMs (I couldn't believe how crappy the stock ROM was compared to those) I've been able to experiment with, I have a much better idea of what I want out of my next android phone and what it will be capable of. As for SE, you're right: never again.

Agreed. I've just installed my first ROM (2.2.1 CM HACKDROID v0.12) on my X8 and there is no way i am going back to the original!! Works great apart from a few setbacks like vibration not working, unable to move apps to SD and locks on its own sometimes while i'm using it. But having said that it's still much better than the stock OS!!

if it is true, i will never by SE product anymore, i will rather choose I-Phone 4 either than xperia x8

One can always stand on 2.1
I'd change that for 2.3.3 in a heartbeat. That stuff never recognizes people properly.

late is better than never, at least they are listening to customers after they were bagged out for abandoning the x10.

No, we have no such plans. We have had to prioritize our resources and have therefore focused on delivering the upgrade to XperiaTM X10.

I'm owner of the big X10 but... that's a real pitty for all the other Xperia series owners.

NO WAY! I am utterly shocked. I have hated every post on XDA begging for 2.2/2.3 because i thought they were pointless, but I stand corrected - well done guys!

No – our upgrade solutions do not support downgrading.

Well it's not really hard for them. They'll just be porting almost all software from the Arc/Neo/Pro/Play to the X10, and maybe adjust some little things. Not that surprising imo.

Why do u want to downgrade your HD2 to an operating system made for dummies???

iOS is a closed its not like android in the way that the source code is available for the world to see... And iphones are all alike to each other besides suttle changes and has notthing in common with hd2 hardware... So even if the source code was leaked it would be nearly inpossible to correct all the bugs and incompatibilty that would rise and APPLES legal hammer would sue everybody

Some dude, without searching, asks if we can port iOS, then a some dude will give the very hilarious and completely original joke of "why would you downgrade your HD2 like that..." and be very proud that he has successfully executed humor.
Then someone takes the time to write a legitimate post with a full explanation on why it cannot be done even though the OP will never read it since he never bothered searching in the first place.
Then someone like me points out the worthlessness of the thread and most of the responses in it.
Then a couple more people will argue as to why iOS is better/worse than Android is better/worse than WP7 and the thread either gets closed or finally dies out.

Actually, I made the image. I hardly can be accused of being jealous of XPlay owners, but I feel that the phone has been brutally abandoned. I guess my sentiment isn't shared among the userbase...

With Gingerbread as standard on the phone I'd say SEMC is good for a while, the majority of other phones that are out now, including some just hitting the market don't even have that.
We're still waiting for Sony to come through with Playstation Suite, I'm guessing that will be a vital part of the appeal to Playstation Certified devices. In the meantime, it's a prime opportunity for developers of Android games to step up with the new coined "Xperia Play Optimized" label.
I'm not sure what more you want SEMC to do?

but at the moment dualcore is only good for one thing benchmarks!
there hasnt been a game that is designed only for a dualcore phone that
are phones cant play aswell
and lets be honest that why we all got a play, to play games
so who really cares if there apps fire up hundreds of a sec faster than ours
or when u browse the homes screens etc, theres is abit smoother?
we got our phones to play games and play them comfortably
and our phones do that better than theres.

I agree with the Playstation Suite stance. They mention it every now and then but in no detail whatsoever.
But again, that's not SEMC, that's being developed by Sony (SCE). Different people.
