overclocked g2 temps? - G2 and Desire Z General

I'm currently overclocked at 1.3ghz, and wondering what temps would be considered safe? Any help would be appreciated.

Wrong section, but your phone shouldn't go over 100 degrees Fahrenheit too often. It should stay between 80 degrees - 98 degrees.

Why didn't you just post in overclock thread?

Look at his profile, only eight posts!
Let's chain him to the bumper to the car and drag him around to teach him a lesson!
You ... don't ... post ... questions ... in ... the ... development ... forum
Or, we can be tolerant and gently explain that questions should be directed to general forum.

Thanks to you being a jerk it might be his last post, you people are ruining XDA thinking your cool because you have a few posts when your really a nobody! Mods can we PLEASE start banning these people?

Agreed!

My bad fellas. I wanted a quick response and that thread moves way too fast. I was converned last night because while browsing websites for less than ten minutes while charging, my temps got up to 102 while clocked at 1.3ghz and 1ghz. I read that the droid x guys who are overclocked said temps up to 120 is safe.
Is setcpu's widget temps reading batt temp or cpu temps?
Mods, feel free to delete, move, or whatever is necessary.

I believe it is battery temperatures.
And I also have the failsafe on SetCPU set to 120 degrees Farenheit.

Thanks for the support brotha. Yeah I did just join yesterday and its understandable that their will be nazi members always present to bash on noobs like myself for making mistakes in regards to forum etiquette. I come from a car forum that is very similar, but much more harsh.

...... (__8(|)

I have set cpu throttle back down to 768mhz when the temp>36.5 (about 98 degrees Fahrenheit)

Also running at 1.3 (or 69) and right now circular battery says I'm running at 85F ... (have profile set to clock down to 245/268 when screen is off - this may be important as the phone is likley in your pocket at that time)
Also ... set main profile to 363/1.32ghz w/ sampling rate changed to 2500 - this seems to make the jump much quicker when phone is actually in use and speeds things up tremendously imho...

Thanks for the info. On setcpu I've been running performance mode. Took your advice and switched to on demand to access sampling rate. Default was set at 50,000. Switched to 2500 but not really seeing a difference. how does this play a factor in regards to sampling rate?

No worries man; I know peoples just want to have fun in here and sometimes its difficult to see sarcasm haha.
Back on topic. The general consensus says the safe zone is about 97 degrees when overclocked. When charging, the phone gets hot fairly fast. I like to run games when plugged in and want to utilize the increased speeds while playing games and so forth. However my temps get up to 103 before I drop down from 1.3 to 1ghz. Should I be worried staying in these temps, or should I say 120 degrees would be more questionable?

I was using the Grass live wallpaper for the first month, I've since switched to my own photo. I can't say for sure whether there's been a big improvement, but my battery is definitely better at the end of the day than it was before.

I use live wallpapers all the time and my battery has been fine. Honestly, I think there was just a batch of bad batteries in early production models, coupled with bad optimization of software. I run the Mario live wallpaper and the Galaxy wallpaper constantly and my battery still last just about as long as if I used a regular photo.
Wow, I gotta say I'm kinda ashamed at what some of you are saying.
Didn't know that XDA was that kinda place.
Roast the poor guy for posting something trying to help... Impressive.
My live sperm wallpaper uses this much | of this much |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| of my battery, daily. I'm so pissed that I've used it for 3 weeks now and I'm considering filling a class-action lawsuit against google, sprint, htc and the sperm themselves over this monumental battery life decrease. Fkin sperm!
when i play 3-d games all day, my battery dies faster, i think this, not the live wall paper is the "real baterry culprit".........

Not all here are idiots like the trolls that just posted above, but must say that like yourself, I am getting more than a little disgusted by the posts that are coming from the obvious adolescent and pre adolescent that are making an otherwise informative site look like some random high school (or should I say elementary school) hallway. As for the OP.....you and your comments are more than welcome on XDA and as for your post.....there is evidence to support your theory no matter what the others may say.

Interesting that this was your first thought. (I went to more of a Christian reference.) Projecting much?
And, yeah, how the heck did this discussion devolve so quickly? Live wallpapers are indeed listed on just about every battery-saving tips list, even if as only a minor contributor. There are bigger things you could do (turn off always-on mobile data, for instance). But to come in and start flaming over this is ridiculous. Just don't waste your (our) time.

Man. Times around here on xda sure have changed. I guess as smart phones get more popular, more kinds of people are drawn to the site.
Sorry, OP. Your tip isn't exactly new, or in all cases true, but you don't deserve some of these responses. Don't let his deter you from contributing.

Etiquette... Please Read

Some of us (noob and non-noob) do a few things that make XDA not as enjoyable for all of us.
1 - Please do NOT make MULTIPLE threads on the same topic (5 topics on page 1 are by the same person, 4 of which are all related to the same topic). Wouldn't ONE thread with everything be nicer for the OP and ALL of XDA?
2 - Edit your posts - if you forgot to say something or you need to word it better, just edit your initial post, no need to make more clutter.
3 - Be respectful... as much as you can tolerate.
4 - Try and help if you can.
5 - Rather than go back and forth in a thread (arguing/talking), PM the person. Hint, WE do NOT care.
6 - Developer's ROM threads are for THAT purpose, developing. It is NOT to be compared to another rom, and nobody cares if you are about to flash it.
7 - Post in the correct section! This is not hard... questions go in the Q&A. Apps/Themes go there... ONLY developers should post new threads in the development section. General is a catch all for everything else, related to the Vibrant.
8 - Spell Etiquette correctly (I'm flashing Gingerbread on my Nexus, doing this while backing up.... my excuse )
Also, if you feel a thread like this IS the issue.... you may need to look in the mirror.
may want to edit title, it's spelled etiquette...
just friendly heads up before the flaming starts lol
psst...! i think you mean "etiquette".
you might wanna add "please take your disagreements outside of the thread or just agree to disagree".
i dunno about you, but i'm getting sick of seeing arguments when reading threads in the dev section. ~_~
Is this topic meant for that person that rides x's?

Can you possibly tell me their title or link?
Here is another one. Comments in a rom are supposed to be for that rom only. Ie. Bugs fixes, performance, etc. You should NOT compare roms.. Ex. " boomers" rom is much faster than this... " comments like this are pointless and do nothing for the development of the rom the thread is about.

I'm sorry?
I posted the first thread "vibrant comes with 2.2!" because i'd made a thread a day or two ago asking if Vibrants now come with 2.2
Everyone on the thread said NO.
I wanted to let people know that it does, because i just got a refurb with 2.2.
the second was a question kind-of.
I was wondering why people were hating on stock ROMS because i had great experiences with it. (not 2.1) Everyone on this forum says "STAY AWAY FROM STOCK, ITS LAGGY!!!!" I wanted to oppose that because i had no problems what-so-ever with that.
I don't see how their related just because they both have something to do with 2.2 though.
I really dont see what ya'lls problem w/xrider is, his posts may have been similar but they are still different.
This is an open forum and with so many new people coming and going it will always be like this, theres no way to control it,and in trying to do so will only create undue stress
The only way it can be some what "controled" is to make it a closed forum :-(
And by editing does it bring in new viewers not likely.
Imho i dislike cyber arguing but some times it apperently takes a lil cyber flogging to set some straight or get rid of the bashers
This is in no way a negitive post towards the OP nor anyone else

+1 Agree totally. Singling out some person just creates a feud and that is rarely productive. The real issue is for people to try and remember that when writing in the thread, sarcasm, double entendres, and other other verbal expressions rarely make sense in written form. Plus, the macho adolescent comments do not go over well either.
My best advice and rule that always works is this :
Try to make your comments so if your parents or some one you respect was reading they would understand what you are saying and the intent.
Follow that rule and you will never have problems (of course unless you are a sociopath-)

Good to see developers working together and help change the vibe...a thank you

Well I just wanted to day "Thank You" to all of the developers, themers, etc. It seems like lately people in this community are really sharing info without problem. Now, maybe that's always been the case but its being seen in the threads more. There have been some great ROMs, kernels, mods, themes, etc. coming out lately. It seemed like we hit a wall after Dk28 but now there seems to be something new and spectacular every day. Keep up the fantastic work and delivering on the greatness.
Now, on to those who post. Thanks to those who take the time to help answer questions, post a link, or even better a zip. I am sure it gets frusterating to the XDA All Stars when the Rookies don't know all the rules. Its easy to say go back and read but sometimes threads are 1000 pages and Search sends you all over the place. If you take the time to actually post the answer instead of posting to read the last 42 pages itss been said, it may actually help you. One day you may have a question ar be looking for a file or zip and instead of someone telling you to hit "Search", they may just post it for you right there. Not everyone knows every XDA forum rules...but everybody learns and I am sure XDA doesn't want people being chased off by someone snapping on/flaming them for not knowing a rule. It may be their 1st or 2nd time here.
In closing, I have noticed and overall better attitude/vibe among not only developers but those of us who just post as well. Things seemed to be dying for a little while and now there a great ROM, Theme, or Tweak on here every day or two. So, the future looks bright! Thanks to those who develop, theme, make mods, are testers and to the helpful question answerers. This is actually a pleasant forum to come to now. Of course the trolls are another story altogether.thanks for taking the time to read is, I just felt it was necessary. Too much hotness being released lately.

i could care less in a beta build, I'm just happy to see that 'unlocked' show up when i boot.
he's right, this thread shouldve been put in q&a

quadrant gives me around 2200. linpack multi-thread gives 50-56 MFLOPS, single thread ~34.

Yeah I couldn't care less either. Thanks for the info. I wonder if well be seeing improved quad scores over froyo in the final build?
benchmarks aren't that great a predictor of real world performance. there was a story last week about someone making a modified CM7 build that unrealistically destroyed benchmarks on the Nexus S
looking forward to the dev work on this thread!

I fail to see where your benchmarks are.

Well, actually you failed to post on the right thread. Jesus this is a development thread.
though this is the wrong section, i was consistently getting 2700's and i maxed around 2850 in quadrant. i have the screenshots if proof is necessary. i also got high 70's in linpack multi-thread.
mods will move this thread when they see it...but who cares about quadrant its not a very accurate gauge of performance. i can tell you that 2.3.4 is definitely faster than 2.2.2 in every way
Linpack multi-thread- high 70s also.
off topic

Xda is looking for mods these days..
And we need one, to keep our forum clean, and everything in correct order..
With tags in the topics.. Eg [ROM] [MOD].. Editing topics ..
Etc in a 100 pages thread, if there is solution put a [SOLVED] tag in title or something, move solution to 1st topic,
And possible problems with solutions, that may a user come up..
Deleting off topic stuff, like what I m posting right now..
Or some "OMG! SOS! HELP" threads, that the solution was already answered.. (I ve created some of those )
Anyway.. It needs spending some time daily on the forum.. But we need our atrix mod..

I'm gettting like 3000 in quadrant and 80-85 on multicore linpack

If you guys believe the moderators are complacent then please bring your concerns to them. You don't need to run around in threads making smug comments when something is out of line - this is what the moderators are for.
Rather than running around and playing internet police, please use the Report To Moderator function. This will alert mods silently and without fanning any flames.
P.S. No one point out the irony in playing Mr. Internet Policeman myself! Damn you if you do! Just tired of the whining!!

only problem is that the 'report post' option has gotten more complicated, and you have to PM a specific mod in order to get anything done....

i WAS getting this on the 1.8.3 froyo build. are you still getting it on the unlocked hktw?
i ran it a few more times and got a 2500 score
To show benchmarks you have to have a "benchmark" to compare to. Just throwing around Quadrant and whatever scores doesn't show or help anything. What is needed are before and after. You take a "benchmark" snapshot before, then do the same test after and compare results. Benchmarks in any industry/technology are the initial test data results. Anything you compare this to afterwards is not technically a benchmark until you determine it is better, and thus need to test the new "benchmark" against the next improvement to substantiate your results.

Atrix forum going out of control

Take a look at post #20. Is a resumed part of what I meant from the start. Sorry for causing so much troubles.
Out of control???
I'm on this forum nightly, usually moving questions to the Q&A. I don't have the time to read every thread in every section, that's why we Mods rely on ''you'' to report off topic, rude, etc. posts; and then we will deal with it accordingly.
Thanks for your concern however. I will try to give this forum a bit more attention. In the meantime, use the reporting system that is in place, if you feel a thread or posts deserves special attention, in keeping with the XDA rules (see sig for link).

p.s. If you wanna see outta control, go look at the combined SGS 3 forum.

Swiftks how do you get to become a moderator?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
One does not ask, one is chosen. (j/k)
You join the XDA IRC and say "ops plz" (repeatedly so they notice it quickly). (j/k, and also I don't even know if there is an IRC).
In any case I do believe the account has to be a certain age and you have to have a certain number of posts (or at least those should be basic criteria).
It's probably in a FAQ somewhere on the site (or if not, should be).

Excuse me... you're "warning" us? I wasn't aware that you were made a moderator. Oh, wait, you weren't.
If you find problems, use the reporting system. But don't come waltzing in here and issuing threats and edicts when you don't have the authority to back them up. If you're not a moderator, you're a regular member just like the rest of us, which means you don't have the authority to tell us what to do. You aren't in charge here, and I'll thank you to remember that.
Lol this kid.

You've obviously weren't around here when the Atrix Forums first opened, or perhaps you've forgotten what it was like around here.
Basically it was a lot of ex-iPhone d-bags that got the Atrix as their first Android phone, and had little respect for XDA. IMHO The Atrix forums has been "pleasant" lately compared to what it used to be when it first opened...

Dude, posting stuff like that is a good way to loose all friends here - nobody likes a self appointed hall monitor. Let the mods do their job, I don't think the policy is to remove every post that might offend someone, it's the tubes; you need to grow a thick skin.
Don't worry, the angst lake will drain once the ICS situation resolves itself - one way or the other. Although, prepare for some awesome gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands if Moto pulls the same stunt they did with the Dext and cancels the update at the last moment.
Well I'll have to admit : I knew the Htc Magic, Htc Touch2, Htc HD2, Samsung Galaxy 10.1v and the Xperia Ray community and the Atrix one is by far the worst. A lot of aggressiveness and unthankful people...

So what devices have a GOOD active community then? I'll sell mine and go get one of those.
Honestly I don't think this community is all that bad. It's like any other community really, in that you have your good users and bad users.
What would really be neat is to take the regional and economical demographics of all the smartphones and compare them. Then you might have something.
Of course people's standards of good and bad are different as well, so you're always going to have someone complaining. Trust me on this, I'm a goth/industrial DJ and getting everyone in this subculture at the club to be happy is like spitting into an oncoming wind!
I don't say it's hell on earth either...it's just that there is a level of animosity that I never encountered before. Why is that, I don't know...

Then I guess you haven't seen the HTC Hero forum. There most of the fighting is between devs, and the majority of bans, blocks etc. is toward the devs, that dont play together nice...
As for this community, I admit that there are some that dont stop complaining, but as already said, in the beginning it was worst.
The best thing here is that most of the complaining is to Motorola and stinking nVidia (Burn bi$#h burn!!! ), whereas practically all the Atrix forum dwellers pay there respect to the devoted devs.
I think that most of the complains will be gone once Moto will release the ICS update. If they will not release it this community will just die slowly...

Toshiba Folio, Kindle Fire sub-forum are good and active in my opinion. The Acer Iconia A100 is not active, however people there treat each other especially good. I can say more than 99% of the users there are good and humble, respectful of each other.

Same thing with the HTC Aria. Its an old phone now, but the people there NEVER demmanded anything and were so grateful for what ever they got (Rom-wise).
This forum...not so much....
Sent my Atrix that is faster than most phones
Dont' take all I said personal, it was most directly to Mods. I don't know if you want to ban me or do whatever you want with my account Mods but I'm going to tell you the truth...
I feel like you're not doing your Jobs... that's my 2 cents...
If you want I can change the main thread because is causing so many confusion and other things but that's all I had to say in others words.
