[Poll] Do you use a task killer? Don't be shy. - Vibrant General

As you can see in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812747 it seems like the use of task killers is a touchy subject for many people, and something they really try to convince others that they are right about doing or not doing. I was simply testifying that I found a benefit from using it, contrary to the many people who don't because of all the advisories out there not to or because they simply find no benefit. In response, many people admitted they were also using one, only to be flamed by other members who think that it is completely unnecessary and defeats the purpose of android in some aspects.
So without having to justify your own reason for using or not using a task manager or task killer, I'm simply curious to know how many people do use one and how many don't because from that previous thread there seems to be a good number of people on both sides of the argument. Thanks for participating.

I did til I read that it dose more harm then good

I had been since I got the phone. But I removed the atk from the market today. Thought I would try going without it for a while and see how it goes.

Since I got an N1, I never needed to use a task killer. I say today's phones are more than good enough to handle multi-tasking easily. Also, using task killers on Android = bad news bears.

hmmmn
i do use it, im not sure tht its good for the phone. Well i usually dont close apps i just kill them at one time, although im not into linux so i hav to ask some techy guy tht is it worthy??

Of course I don't. I wouldn't even waste the bandwidth to download that garbage.

Yes, but not an auto killer, sometimes you need one

I use the one it comes with... Doesn't affect the battery at all...

I've got a basic one that I use for various testing purposes only. No point in micro managing a perfectly efficient system.

no I meant autokill. it kills apps which just restart, which will cut battery life.

Exactly! Android is pretty good about closing apps itself but if you feel you need something extra, there's already one built-in.

You should apply for a job at the Discovery Institute.

Yes but only when there is a ton of apps still open and its the stock one that came with the odin update to JI6 so no autokiller. not always needed but sometimes nessasary

The Real Info About Your Battery

If you absolutely need the highest capacity on a device like this, you will need to bump charge. There are currently people experimenting with "fixes" for this, but I have yet to see one that works. Be warned, however, that repeated bump charging will wear your battery faster and begin to reduce its capacity.

He tells us to bump charge if we need to get higher battery, but says that it can hurt our battery life.
Basically to me it gave proof to my assumption that we're not gonna get much more from these batteries. I posted it because there's question after question asking about the battery life. This should give some insight to some. With 1ghz cpus and hardware that rivals a low end netbook with a battery that's tiny compared to one, we should be happy to be getting a full days use out of them. That's just my opinion tho.

It's the way the world works.
1 company makes a great battery, another one makes a bit better then the other makes it better and so on...

It debunks the odd advice given here to always let your phone drain out before charging it.
Im one of those people who keeps my phone on a charger whenever I can.
Also debunks the supposed need to calibrate batteries in phones.

totally, deep cycling is bad for Li-Ion batteries. The calibration on the other hand I don't know. The article did talk about about having the battery meter catch up to reality. Maybe reconditioning the battery helps the meter do that faster? I doubt it, but you never know I guess.

a Conculsion in a instructional article is where you tell people to do "THIS" whereas that author isn't doing anything but saying do this and then goes on telling us the bad things about doing that.
WTF is the point of telling us a good thing, only to know that it leads up to screwing up your battery?

Your powers of deduction are lame. There's obviously tradeoffs with the bump technique,as he points out.

Is everyone that owns this phone a whiney bish?

Seems to me every post on here lately is just people whining about what they don't have...
I use my phone daily, and get a lot of use out of it.. I obviously am not as obsessed as many of the whinners, but I guess it gives them something to do.
Why don't all the folks whinning about not having 2.2 just start a thread *****ing about not having gingerbread..

The point is that this is one of Sprint's "top of the line" phones. Why don't I have the bells and whistles that the comperable Evo has? I paid a premium to have this device and all the features its capable of. I'd like to be able to enjoy those highlights.
On a side note if Samsung/Sprint did a little bit better job of keeping everyone in the loop on where they were with updates it wouldn't be such a big deal. I don't need specifics but a ballpark timeline would be nice. It's all about managing people's expectations.

Hopefully fix gps / keyboard issues. My gps locked like a glove on DK28 and closer than I have ever seen on DI18. I enjoyed the new style of text messaging too. Its all about user expierience. Flash would be nice too.
I ran the leaked DK28 build for awhile and enjoyed it quite a bit but it obviously wasn't finished. I'd like to give the finished product a run.
Im in no hurry for froyo til mobile ap starts working on it, wireless tether sucks ass in comoarison, also my gps works great on d118 the only thing froyo will bring me is flash and apps2sd which apps2sd is not even a big deal for me im nit running out of space or anything and my phone does everything I want my phone todo. The main thing I want it on my wife's Epic is for C2DM or cloud to device messaging for third party apps. I'd like it so that apps can use less battery power that do notifications among other things.
Also the JIT's kinda nice too..
I haven't done any complaining about it on the forum but one would think one of the best/most expensive android phones on the market would come with the latest version of Android. Anyway personally I went back to running 2.1 with Phoenix/Syndicate Rom after trying a whole slew of 2.2 ROMs. I'll just wait around for the official Froyo and try not to think about it....

[Q][Sarcasm] NOT another useless thread..ok it is.

Without a doubt the Epic 4g is definitely the most impressive piece of hand-held hardware I have owned to date. I am a long time HTC user and I can promise I will [probably] never go back. There is no other phone on the market that I would rather have for the uses that I use it for. I made my decision wisely after a lot of research. So with that being said, why in the world is so many people so up in arms and worked up over not getting a 2.2 update? Do you really need flash that bad on your phone? If you're spending that much time using flash sites then why not man up and buy yourself a decent netbook? Seriously I don't understand. The only reason I have ever been upset that I didn't have flash was when I was unable to masturbate to my normal free porn site, and instead had to find a mobile version. An inconvenience, yes, but not to the extreme that I cursed samsung. Besides it's much better to have two hands free (for some of us anyway).
So what is it? You want to brag to the girls at the bar that your Epic can do more mflops than a Amsterdam prostitute? Someone please enlighten me here. My experience with 2.1 has been super smooth, responsive, and no app I can throw at will slow it down. In real world use what is the benefit of 2.2? Oh yeah it would be nice to have the new gmail app with the return/forward at the top instead of the bottom, true, but what else?
If you weren't tied to your phone's benchmark like it was the size of your peni$, what seriously is the Epic 2.1 lacking that a 2.2 update would fix?
edit: Keep an eye out for my new rom: Better than froyo. Completely Stock with madthumbs mobile bookmark baked in.

I wondered the same thing for a long time. If you need flash so bad then download the adobe flash app.
Now most of us are on the leaked froyo I'm seeing crap about gingerbread. What's so special about that is what I really wanna know.
I get mad lag on my stock 2.1 phone. This is my second Epic since launch and both lagged after about 12 hours of uptime.
I brought this phone in to Sprint and of course it decides to be all snappy for them. >:-| So my only hope is for the better task management FroYo offers will remedy the lag. That said, sure the lack of an update sucks, but I'm not sweating it.

Fine, but seriously... lack of 2.2 is not what kills it for me on this phone... it's the damn screen that's calibrated like ass. Being a photographer, I just have to ask myself... who the f wants to stare at a screen that calibrated to a very cool temp?
2.2 won't help you there, but this will: http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...-universal-version-takes-aim-at-more-phones/#

Hmmm.... wonder if any Devs know if theres a way to adjust more advanced settings than RGB... thats great, but It would be nice to be able to ISF calibrate this thing, it does have amazing image potential. May even be able to set up profiles for outside, movie, the retarded 'sports' one, oh wait, think its on that... Set up to work well with the lighting at a Sprint store I would assume...
I'd like to be able to use the audio-out function of the expensive factory dock I bought. I'd also appreciate full voice command support.
There is more to Flash than just websites and video. Froyo also gives you the ability to run Adobe Air applications as well as run Flash content. I already have two Air apps that I've been working on that I will be putting on the market once I've got 2.2 on my Epic and can test them myself.
Not to mention that Google has been updating their core apps and some will now require 2.2. I, for one, don't relish the fact that a phone I bought 2 months ago can't run the latest apps.
And please don't tell me to install a custom ROM. I'm new to Android and this is my primary communication device for personal and business use. I'm not really ready to risk screwing it up just yet.

Made a discovery about myself.

Hello
Well if you guys remember I had a thread saying I had a bunch of apps.
Well I have a problem.
I have on Titanium 309 user apps backed up
I hate how it takes like an hour to restore.
Okay here's my problem I use like 1/10 of them and that's it. All the others are apps that are games that I keep because I like showing off my phone and having a bunch of apps and such to my friends and don't want them to say I have a boring phone. The other reason is because I "think they will be necessary at one point" but that point hasn't come. For example I have shazam pro and haven't used it.
I have asphalt 5 and my friend is the only one that uses it.
Almost all my friends have android phones and while most of them have like 2 games compared to like the 150 I have they are happy and don't care. I do?
I would love to use the adwex vertical new drawer but my friends will say "its so gay it looks like an iphone" so I switched to launcherpro.
Its almost like I have all those things to please everyone else but im not pleased with that
So should I delete all my backups and just download apps I use and not care if I don't have cool games and things? Since I don't use them?

If you have room stay with them. I myself have delete the game(s) as soon as im finished with it. Their legit buyes so even with one game their happy unlike us.

Always like "OOO i think i'mma need this app to show off to my friend" but that day never comes.
I've deleted all my backed up apps and now have 80 user apps, and i still don't use about 20 of them, but those are games and i need them sooner or later at boredom. I will never go above 100 user apps. that is a promise to my self, and i don't wanna hurt my phone lol.

We should start an "appaholic" support group. I have had this problem for over 2 yrs now. The nice thing about my G1 towards the end was I couldn't install too many apps even with app2sd it would run out of space around 75 or so. Now I clean my phone every 6 weeks and I keep it that way for about a week. But then I fall off the wagon again. I just can't stop so I guess I'll just keep cleaning and reloading because new apps keep coming out and I just gotta have em.
Its comforting to know I am not alone......

The cause of all your Galaxy s2 problems......

I have come to the conclusion that the reason some users are having problems with their phones is this.....
ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!
Leave the phone the way Samsung intended it and 90% of you wont have problems
Dont get me wrong i was one of these people.....Got the phone...was really happy with it and then i started to work my magic lol! New launcher here, different widget there and so on and so on.
Ended up with terrible battery life and then with a phone that got so hot it shut itself down!
Since that time i have reset the phone and kept it completly standard...what a difference...battery last 2 days again and the phone is fast and cool!
So, moral of the story...leave it alone and just enjoy the phone as it is....if you dont you only have yourself to blaim
so endith the lesson

If the phone is left as it comes out of the shop then the chance of problem is far reduced.
This phone has been refined so far that in standard form there very little wrong with it. Problems arise when we start messing with it to much.

Disagree. I think OP made sense - people sometimes mess up their phones. It is a toy for most of us, or a hobby, or an addiction

Some people just dont want to accept thats the case.
If you want to get a phone and tinker around with it adding here and taking away there then fine...just dont then come on here complaining about the phone and making it look bad...its a great phone....if you leave it alone lol!
Sometimes I wish I could reach into the Internet and strangle people. This is one such occasion.

Based upon what?
you disagree?
if so why...if its the phone thats at fault all the time then why bother with one?
You think the user is never the cause of problems with the phone? Is that because we are all technical geniuses?
do not fight guys.
most phones have bugs.
if you give the user too much freedom, the user will abuse it, tarnish the brand, and you will pick up the bill (Jobs' very successful business model)
and yeah, Doc is a power to be reckoned with
can we all be friends please

I agree and i never said it was perfect
but this phone is so much better than many and all the niggles are getting sorted the more android and samsung develops.
The point i was making is that the majority of problems on here are not because of some minor bug...more likely down to user error or the result of other apps etc that have been added.

Can you show me this "majority of problems" caused by the users?

Like i said its just my opinion...
Im sure Doc is very good at what he does and i have never questioned that...dont think we were debating that unless he thought i set down the gaunlet and was looking for a fight lol!
not the case
You're making a sweeping generalisation based on absolutely zero evidence. The worst kind of troll.
Are the Orange FC problems caused by user error? No - KE2 firmware is bugged. Is the appearance and activation of Wifi sharing user error? No, its a bug. Is the unexplained battery drain and high Android OS use user error? No.
This thread contributes absolutely nothing. It only serves to aggravate those of us with issues that we're trying to resolve. Is it a great phone? Yes. But right now it had issues. You become an early adopter, you accept that. And you try to make the product better.

dont want to be on here all night but lets look at the obvious...Battery life
Numerous complaints about that
im no expert and dont profess to be but from my own experience when i had lots of widgets, different launcher etc installed my phone struggled to last the day. Since my reset to standard as of now the phone is still on 78% and thats after being unplugged since 8am.
Hang on (door slams). I'll just go and buy an iPhone.
