Yea, they can detect your phone pretty fast. Supposedly, they would block you from using the phone-first internet, and make you upgrade to a smartphone plan. The HD2 is definitely considered a phone on a smartphone plan. You really should be paying $30/month.
Ya data plan ATM costs to much $30/5GB per month. But rumour is TMo is cooking up another data plan for not heavy users which is 200MB/month for $10. So lets wait and see what happens, hopefully its true.

In each case it is cheaper than here in Belgium.
1GB/month = 30€/month = 41,23$/month

That's for Proximus yes. They are the market leader. If you stick with them you're bound to get ripped off
Mobile Vikings has everything I could dream off: €15 / month = 2GB data + free sms. So actually you get € 15 to call with and the data plan for free. After 12 years of having Proximus that was an incredible shock to me.

Hmm, if you look carefully on my account you will see I'm with Mobistar, not with Proximus!!
Yhe, I know Mobile vikings is cheaper fore data, but it don't have everywhere HSDPA coverage, I know aether Mobistar ore Proximus haven't it but it is better.
And bay the way I have almost 60H of communications each month. So conclusion I will stay with may formless, even it is expensive, but that's live here in belgium.
i live in pakistan and the service providers here offer dirt cheap plans (no 3G yet though), and the business/market model is such that the majority of plans do NOT include a phone...so most everyone just gets whatever phone they fancy, get a plan, slap in the sim and we're good to go. i get unlimited gprs/edge for an additional RS500 on my plan (thats about $6) per month. all incoming calls are free and outgoing calls to any network are RS1.25 (thats about 2cents) per minute!
so i never really thought about how my provider can detect my phone. out of curiosity, would the OP have been able to hide the device model from his provider if he never used WM? for example, he gets the HD2 but does NOT put his sim card into the device. he then proceeds to keep WM in flight mode and sets up android...so that whenever WM boots, it is in flight mode, and then he can jump into android where flight mode is disabled. he puts in the sim...and starts using the phone like i've mentioned...i.e. phone services disabled completely in WM and using WM just as a bootstrap into android where all phone services are enabled.
would that prevent the provider from detecting the device model? or do they detect the IMEI and look it up in some database? or is the detection mechanism based on some other principle?

This is exactly what they do. Want some more details ? Google for "TAC database".
Thanks for the info, let's see what happens, the data is still not cut off til now.

that is very interesting. I am using my Euro HD2 on t-mobile USA since this janurary and my t-mobile account has not shown a picture of my device yet. There is no picture. This is the message they give me:
Sorry—we’re not sure which phone you’re using, so we’re not able to display resources. Please select a phone.
I am not on a data/text plan at all. I just do straight calls 1,500 Minutes shared.
Will I be caught?
Eventually. Anyways the prices you guys gave make me happy that I'm keeping my unlimited plan with AT&T. All I can download for $30 per month.

The data plans for t-mobile are changing in a couple of weeks, still 30.00 for unlimited (25.00 on non subsidized phone) and I think 200mb for 10-15.00.

T-Mobile has a database of all HD2 IMEI's (unique phone serial numbers) of all T-Mobile branded HD's as well as any T-Mobile branded cell phones. As soon as you started using it, they detected what it is and will start charging you accordingly. AT&T does the same crap with iPhones and other AT&T branded phones.
The only workaround that I know of is to use non carrier branded phones that the carrier does not already have in their database.
im so happy that we dont have tmobile here in switzerland lol
paying only 29CHF (aroudn 30$ or so) for unlimited calls to my provider, unlimited sms(thats godlike) and "unlimited" mobile internet. but they cut down the speed after 500mb xD.. i could pay 19CHF more to get 2gbs till they cut it down, but hey, im not listening to internet radio anymore, so 500mbs are enough

Now, I know there are lots of threads on this already and I took a few minutes skimming search results and didn't find this answered.
Basically, I was hoping to switch myself to the $10 internet plan on T-Mobile rather than paying the $25 internet plan. I bought my phone unlocked from Google.com and not subsidized through T-Mobile. However, when I asked to switch to the other plan, they asked me for my IMEI number on my phone.
Has anyone else been asked for their IMEI when switching to a different data plan? Do they actually have a database of the existing N1 IMEI numbers or are they simply trying to build one? Would I be better off grabbing an old Razr and giving them that IMEI then switching back to my N1?
Lots of questions! Haha.
Anyway, if anyone could shed a bit of light on this I would very much appreciate it.
No, a few months after the initial G1 release T-Mobile caught on to the "scam" and closed the loophole. You have to have an Android data plan now or nothing.

Hmm.. I was under the impression that this was solely for subsidized phones which they already had IMEI's for.
So, in the end, you're stuck paying the extra cost for the Android version of Web even if you bought it unlocked then huh?

Pretty much--don't know what to tell you I bought the phone outright since I didn't want to kill my plan to be forced on the N1 T-Mobile individual plan for at least 4 months...and I was forced to go onto the $25/mos plan from my $20/mos BlackBerry plan.
EDIT: They didn't ask me for what my IMEI number was though. In T-Mobile's system it will probably say I still use a BlackBerry device
The IMEI numbers update automatically in the system on a 2 day lag. So whatever phone you use today will reflect in their system on Saturday. As far as the $10 data plan, it will not work. It should say something to the effect that "you don't have the proper provisioning" or something like that. Basically your eating up too much bandwidth. You obviously had enough money to buy a Nexus 1, but won't pay for the premium data plan? That's the same thing as buying a brand new Ferrari and asking your friends for gas money to go out? At least I see it that way

And, as far as buying an N1 and not paying for the premium plan, the premium plan is great as long as you have a job to afford it. When you get laid off, not so much.

I am currently using a 5.99 plan on my nexus. fast 3.5g internet for really cheap price. it works just fine. they have my imei. they know I am using the internet like that but they don't do anything about it. by simply putting in the epc.tmobile.com apn you'll get full internet on any plan. but this only works for the nexus. no other android phone can use this because tmobile provides the phones not Google.

From what I have been able to find out, if you had the old $6 T-Zones, you were able to be grandfathered in when they cancelled the service. The cheapest net they offer now is the "Phone First/Web2Go" internet which is $10 a month. Essentially the same thing just 4$ more.

Good analogy. However, people don't get rich by spending money. If you can find a way to pay less, you do it. Some people made a financial stretch to afford the N1 and now cannot afford to pay for a premium data service.
Data service is data service and should not be dependent on device. At least I see it that way.
Hey, I'm all fur finding ways to pay as little as possible.
But let's not pretend an extra $15 is breaking the bank.
Hello, I just cancelled my cable TV after realising u rarely watch the 200 channels available.
And all the network channels i can get using a $15 pair if rabbit ears.
HD, .5.1
Next to go is the phone. Experimenting with magic jack this month.
All I want to pay for is high speed internet.
I'll save at least $120 a month
I think the grandfathering is BS because when I first got my G1 I had T-Zones on my old v3 and they made me switch to the newer data plan. To clarify, they had to do it because of activating the phone, so I don't know if you just buy it outright and don't tell them it could work.

I got my phone unlocked. I didnt give them my IMEI, they automatically know it once your sim card is in the phone. Ive had the 5.99 tzones plan for a while now, but this article should help you out http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/5381...ed-data-for-5-99-works-wiphone-and-nexus-one/
edit: this comment by a user might also be helpful.
"as an alternative, i was able to set this up without customer service's help. this was more than a year ago when I setup tzones to work on my treo 650. the trick was that i had an old phone sony ericcson t300 that i had purchased back in 2000 or 2001. I keep it around because if i have an emergency where my phone or my wife's phone stops working i can transfer the sim card quickly to a working phone to make/receive a call. So here's what i did:
setup my sim card in the t300.
make a call or send a text message; long enough to let the t-mobile servers detect that I have switched phones.
log in to t-mobile.com
verify that my phone is now detected as a t300. if not, click on the "not my phone" and change it.
next, adjust service plans, t-zones appears on the list.
add tzones to your billing cycle. make any additional changes you need to make.
save the settings.
change your sim card back to the original phone.
setup the phone for t-zones service"
T-mobile has two data plans.
1) Data plan
2) Sidekick data plan
They have a ton of different pricing for number 1) , the $10 smart web, the $15 dollar smartphone plan, and the $25 android plan.
(I'm not even including all the grandfathered plans like t-zone/t-mobile shadow/blackberry,etc)
The point being they are all the same, they use the same servers, they are all unlimited, so If you can manage to get any of those plans on your bill you will have full 3g/HSPA speed internet on your phone, regardless of what phone it is.
Hello Thread,
Ive had AT&T for over 4 years and i have purchased an htc hd and htc hd 2 overseas unlocked, but ive never been hable to use them as phones on AT&T because since thei are smartphones i get charged 30$ a month. I NEVER use anything else than wifi, and even DISCONECED any kind of internet service for my family plan, but still it dosnt matter.
AT&T will not let me use my phones unless i have a data plan, i donot want to pay fr this service since i dont use it.
There is no point of buying an unlocked full priced phone, if i am obligated to do this.
Please does anybody have a solucion for this? maybe change my IMEI?
Thanks in advance
I would tell you get an TMOUS HD2 (should have an IMEI not in AT&T's records) off ebay, but recently I saw someone having problems with a different carrier's HD2 (or was it TP2?) being automatically switched to a smartphone plan. Someone can surely provide more infomation.
I think changing IMEIs is outright impossible though. Or at least not really practical.

Thanks for the reply! but i already purchased the international version, because i can flash anything to it, TMOUS has limits on what can you flash to it.
I suggested the IMEI because i cant think of another way to avoid AT&T from finding i have a smartphone, its incredible to me that being that i have totally disconected my internet on te phone, they will still make me pay 30$ a month to have unlimited plan, it will en up being way more than what i payed for the phone in the end of the contract.
Anybody got another idea???

I actually do have a non smartphone RZRV9 and am using it on a voice plan, but the problem is that when i was renewing my contract i asked AT&T representatives, various ones, and them not knowwing who i was, and the told me the same:
¨even if you donot have an active internet conection on your phone, and we find out that you are using a smartphone, even if the sim is inserted for a short amount of time, the 30$ a month will be added to your account with ought notice¨
My reaction was WTF??????? are you kidding me?
How can i use my unlocked, international version htc hd 2 and htc hd (that i only use wifi with , again i dont have an internet data conection) as an actual phone? with ought at&t charging me for having a smartphone?
please help

If you upgraded to a new phone or renewed or opened or otherwise extended a contract after November 2009, they have every right to do it. It's become a very explicit part of the contract since then. The only way out of the contract is still to pay those fat ETFs.
If they detect the phones you own as smartphones there is no recourse except to eat the data package price or dump the phones. They will always be detected in the system as smartphones, and the appropriate plan will always be appended for the unlucky owner.
AT&T has the IMEIs of all AWS Nexus Ones and likely most TMOUS HD2s. I know a number of people with TMOUS HD2s who have been automatically provisioned onto the $30 smartphone plan while on AT&T.
It is exceptionally unusual that an international phone would be detected as a smartphone by AT&T's system. I would question the history of the phone.
Yeah, I've been running an imported european HD2 on AT&T for a while and have had no problems with automatic smartphone data plan. Before this I was auto data planned by AT&T with a Nokia E71x. I thought the rule was that AT&T could only mandate data plans on phones they sold.
oh man! that's ridiculous. Then what's the point of buying straight out with full price on the phone? If you buy a smartphone with full price or from other third party and doesnt stick with any contact, you should be good to go. They can't force or longer require you to pay the web service of $30/month. The reason that they force you to pay the data plan is because of the instant discount when you buy a phone with new/extend contact.
You know one thing that i noticed that was just crazy for me, was that if you think about it, any AT&T provided phone that is able to use wifi (to pick up in hotspots, withought having to pay) Is a smartphone, thus it MUST have a 30$ a month plan! :-0! whats the point of wifi?????!! to get a little faster internet maybe, but you are paying for your phone plan anyways? why use wifi?
It dosnt make sense and it is not fair to the consumer, especially when the sales representatives tells you ¨Oh yeah, the reason we add the plan is because since you have a phone that uses alot of internet, it is unfair to others to take away their data, so you need an unlimited plan¨ there are alot of problems with that right there:
1) If i do use the internet on the cellphone and consume alot, and have no unlimited data plan then i am going to pay aloooooooooooooooooooooot of money to use it because the prices are incredibly rediculous, so why is my carrier complaning? I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE IF I WANT TO PAY OR NOT.
2) If in MY CASE i have my internet completely and utterly disconnected, and never plan on adding it on, then how am i consuming internet from others??....
Anymore thoughts?
Thank you
And what if you buy a european version (or doesn't that work?)
My phone said it can use this bands
850,900,1800,1900,2100
I don't know wich are used in the usa.
if you change sim cards to a cheap phone and change the data plans.... they will allow you..
but once you change back into hd2... not only will they INSTANTLY change your plan back the second they notice (it varies... sometimes it takes a couple hours... sometimes it takes a couple months.. BUT IN THE END...THEY ALWAYS FIND OUT) but you are also in a direct breach of your contract...... if you were one of the extremely few people who actually read the small print at the bottom of contract.. it states something along the lines of.. bla bla bla attempting to use companies service without direct notification.. bla bla bla.. waives users service rights bla bla bla...
so yea.. the way i see it... if you want to use a phone like the hd2... might as well get the plan... if you want a phone for a phone.. just stick to the good ol flip phones... you'll save a fortune.. and it doesn't make any sense otherwise...
What's wrong with getting a phone for a phone that is Windows Mobile based? Not everyone is interested in using internet on the go.

AT&T doesn't have a huge repertoire of IMEIs they recognize. The ones that are most at-risk are AT&T-branded phones, AWS Google Nexus Ones, and T-Mobile-branded phones. This is why I find the original poster's predicament extremely unusual. I am able to use my own HD2 with a dumbphone plan ($30 unlimited texting and data package) and it works perfectly. Moreover I get access to AT&T's HSDPA which the OP does not.
Threaten to leave if they add the $30 data plan to your account. Phone carriers do all kinds of crazy stuff when you say you are going to their rivals. Do not however think about tampering with your IMEI. It is illegal.

True, but it is beyond their power to drop the data charges from what is a detected smartphone. It has been explicitly in the terms of service since November of last year.

I second what is stated here. I have been switching phones for some time. I have had the T9193 since January on the non smartphone data plan. ATT has no idea what phone I am using. Phones stated above would be the danger phones. Evidentally the previous owner of your T8585 reported the IMEI to ATT. That is the only way they know you have a smartphone.
I have a tmo version of hd2 and it shows up as blackberry 7290. The rep I spoke to thinks it's because the imei of the tmo hd2 has "similar patters" to those old blackberrys.
This is very much unusual, as i though euro ver would not get recognized at all. i have not seen a single thread re: this issue for the euro ver, whereas I've seen a handful for the tmous ver.
Since when did corporations care about whether our products were stolen? There subsidize model is under attack and they've found a new scam to charge us more. It's like being charged more for gas if I drive a cadillac and less if I drive a Prius. I bought my phone without their subsidy or contract. It has nothing to do with them. It's a GSM cell phone and I want to pay for service. Why should I be charged more for the kind of phone I'm using. If I use more data OK, but it isn't a certain that I'll use more just because I have a smartphone. And the whole IMEI # nonsense is bull%$^#$. The IMEI is nothing more than a serial number. It's not the KI #. it's not about cloning or finding terrorists or anything else. It's about these orifices subsidized model being threatened by people buying there own phones and so some clever master of bull&&*# administration has figured out a new gimmick.
*this post should in no way be construed to be condoning imei changing. it's illegal.
This morning I got text from AT&T that they moved me from my $15 unlimited data plan to $25 2GB smartphone dataplan . Did this happen to anyone? I am wondering is this has got anything to do with X10 coming to AT&T soon? My wife has Nokia N97 and she didn't get the message (touch wood).
Damn, it sucks to pay them $25 when you pay full price for your phone. I am going to call them and at least try to grandfather me to $30 unlimited plan instead of this 2MB plan as it should help when I grab a Huawei S7 Android Tablet or similar device.
are you sure it's 2MB instead of 2GB? that could be used up in no time.

lol I wasn't aware of a 2MB plan..what can you do with that? send 3 emails a month?
Can you let me know if you're able to grandfather your $30 plan? I just got billed the 2gb plan too.

I also got the text this morning. Sucks. I purposefully bought the x10 in may because I had heard the nexus one was recognized by att and required the smartphone plan. Going to put my sim back in the old nokia n95 and try to switch it back to the 10 family data plan. The only reason I buy unlocked phones is because of the cheaper data plan. If I was going to pay for the full smartphone plan, I would just get a subsidized phone from them for cheap. The smartphone plan is 2gb btw, not 2mb. From my usage, 2gb would be plenty, do you guys actually use more than 2gb a month?

This sucks... anyone have any success with contacting AT&T to switch back?
I just finished talking to AT&T. I switched my SIM card to my old W810i and told them I didnt have a smartphone. They are trying to switch me back to my original $15 Unlimited Data for Non-Smartphone plan. Looks like i'm going to have to buy another phone...
Any ideas? Switch back to X1 or X2? :/
i have theyre 30 dollar plan, which is unlimited text and data and i didnt get the text today
I got the same text this morning. Planning to call in later today to try to be grandfathered into the unlimited plan, then I fully intend to soak up a lot of data. It's complete bs that we need to pay for the extremely overpriced data plan when we didn't receive any subsidy from them. I don't care what they spew out about them doing us a fair by giving us enough data so we don't get overcharged. It's the same internet we've been receiving from them and it's been that way for years.

When you call them can you also ask them whether they detected you by IMEI or your total usage, because I am also using the x10a on AT&T but has no data plan and have yet to receive the text message. Thanks
when I went to asia I paid $1.50 for 2gb
I received the text for the smartphone data plan today too. I guess the rumors of the x10 going to at&t are true. What's a good data counter app for the x10/android besides the at&t one? I want a widget of some sort.
I may be getting rid of my x10 now. I've always wanted to try an n900 or even e72 and may end up doing so. Was going to get an ipod touch in september for media anyway. Not sure what to do. No point in buying unlocked for me if I can't use medianet (even though technically we are supposed to use the data plan anyway), even though I also buy unlocked just so I can switch phones often. When they finally remove medianet for good, then I'll get sucked in to their data capped plans. Until then, the war continues.
I used to work for att as a csr so ill throw in my two cents.
Whether they can match your imei to a specific model is unimportant. The system has a way of flagging people using smartphones. From what I understand you get flagged when your phone tries to access the data network with an incorrect or non existant feature. So if you have no data plan don't access ur data through the network and you won't get flagged. If u have one of the non smartphone data plans u are gonna get flagged sooner or later.
PS if u get the text saying u have been put on a data plan call them and tell them u were only trying your friends phone. Get a non smartphone imei ready and they should be able to remove it.
Hope this helps
Guys why all the grumbling over $30, I'm with vodafone in the UK and my mobile price plan is for calls and data. I pay £30 GBP which is about $40-45 USD, for that I get 600 minutes of calls, 500 sms & 1gb of data. Yes 1gb and that's only a recent change because smartphones becoming so popular, when I started my contact in April I only got 500mb and went over that the first two months.
Do you guys get calls included in your plans? Not sure how it works in the US & Canada?
I wish I could get 2gb for $30 which is about £20 GBP but that's dependent on included call time.

Oops about the 2MB plan. Talked to AT&T CSR and they won't let me grandfather to $30 plan as I was on $15 unlimited dumb phone plan. So, I am sC*W#*@*. Hope I don't exceep 2GB. Started to enable WiFi and also checked the notify option for WiFi Networks.
I because of the crazy data use by iPhone users AT&T is making everyone suffer with these stupid limited data plans as I now need to monitor my use.

I was told I was detected by my data usage. So, I am wondering even if I go back to something like W995a, I still would probably chewing in lot of data but these days I got too depended on Google maps to check out restaurant reviews, etc. I was told the $15 unlimited data plan will exist if I ever get another dumb phone.
In canada we pay 30$ for 1gb. I would gladly pay that for 2gb.
I just got off the phone with at&t ccr, and after a lot of persistence, it seems at&t is really getting the x10, or at least something from sony that fed them am imei list.
Also I have some good news.
After opening a ticket and talking to two separate reps (one from the regular customer care and one from the business dept), both seem to believe that an elevated team will be able to change my plan to the smartphone unlimited data.
To those who tried and were unsuccessful, I would try again. Having the right rep really means a lot in these kinds of situations.

I am in Canada and pay $35 for unlimited (5 GB soft cap). That's with Wind Mobile.
Long story short, I changed my cellphone to N1 last month from my old Nokia 5800 XM with the unlimited $15 data plan. Not surprisingly, they forced the $25 dollars smartphone data plan on me soon after I swapped the sim card.
But considering I use wifi mainly on my phone, I called today to downgrade my data plan to the $15 200mb tier as the option doesn't show up in my online account feature section. And apparently, the lady on the phone doesn't know her business too much. She asked me what phone model I was using several times and asked me if it's a smart phone. I had to articulate word by word "google. nexus. one." to her so she could put it down. Before that, she just assumed I was using an iPhone, lol. And also she sounded quite confused about the data plans AT&T has. After some long wait on hold, she cheerfully told me she successfully changed my data plan to $15. So I logged into my account and surprisingly found out the feature of my data plan is:
Data Unlimited: Quick Messaging/Basic Phones
AT&T Recommends $15.00 N/A Unlimited Current
Didn't the honest me just tell her that I was using a nexus one and it's a smart phone? I guess she really doesn't know too much about phone tech even though she works as a customer service rep for AT&T. But I don't blame her for that. Well, even though if somehow in the future they find out there's some mistake and revoke the change, I wouldn't mind because I don't use that much 3g data anyway.
I wouldn't go out of my way, but if that force you to upgrade or realize the error just know it's the correct charge.
Wow you got an awesome plan that is hard to get anymore. Nice
Not a bad plan! Hopefully it will last...
yea i hope it lasts for you too. hey guys on a side note. is that whole "Google charing you on your phone bill" option in place already? because im buying apps and oddly enough, my AT&T bill is coming up $10-$40 dollars extra for the past 3 months
also....since we both got AT&T.....you happen to have her rep number? i wanna call and try to get her so i can try my luck with her
Oh everyone, I guess I spoke too soon. This morning I found out they changed my plan to $25 again. I guess it's the system automation.
I called them again and this time the Guy there apparently know I'm using a HTC phone. But still he couldn't change my plan as he needed me to call from another phone to get the IMEI number. I guess I'll try to call again then.

Yeah that's what has been happening to everyone else. The system automatically sweeps accounts and puts the correct data plan. Oh well.

Not if you're on an old att "blue" plan
* Orig att wireless, pre cingular
best of luck in getting it changed, I was tempted to jump to iphone 4 but would like to have the unlimited data. On local carrier I have the nexus one with a $14.99 unlimited data & unlimited text, tough to find another carrier that can do that.
Just got back from Best Buy and popped in my SIM card and BINGO! 3G appears! If it didn't I would've returned it on the spot.
im sold on that alone... its the best tzones capable phone out then
Did you buy it at full price, or on contract?

Yea, let us know if it stops working. In my experience, you'll get a text from tmobile forcing you to upgrade your data plan, but there is a possibility that your fine, since Nexus S isn't sold *directly* by tmobile. If you payed full price (unsubsidized), then you have nothing to worry about, they can't change your data price.
I am using internet2.voicestrem.com working

Its basically a $5/month data plan that only works with certain phones and you have to be grandfathered into it (ie, you cant sign up for it.. Its something you had to have had since 2000 or whenever tzones was popular and never cancelled). Since you are asking, you probably don’t have it and will not be able to get it

Not true; it's just the data plan for dumbphones.
The T-Mobile website automatically recognizes phones and makes you sign up for full ~$30~ data plans if you have a smartphone.
Of course, if you own a phone that T-Mobile doesn't sell directly, the website can't recognize the phone (so you're free to "select" a dumbphone).
And some of these phones that T-Mobile can't recognize are... The Nexus One and the Nexus S
I have tzone 599 plan too, I have notice that it works fine as long as I am on Tmo 3G coverage, as soon the phone goes to Edge. My data stops working.
Has any one else experience it?
Any way to solve this problem?
Thanks

NOT TRUE. it is the data plan for phones back from 2000 till they cancelled it around 2005. It will work on ANY dumb or SMART phone and it will work for tmobile smartphones as well, such as my vibrant and hd7. Tmobile MAY send a text message saying that you have a smartphone and they want you to upgrade to a "smartphone" plan but you do not have to. I personally have never gotten any texts or received anything like that from tmobile when I used an iphone, iphone 4, hd7, hd2, or vibrant. Only a few people have announced that tmobile pressured them into upgrading but it voids the contract and you can almost always talk your way out of them forcing you to upgrade your data plan.
The only exception is if you choose to upgrade your line, you will have to sign up for a "smartphone" data plan to go along with your 2 year service extension.
But the truth is, tzones will work with any phone regardless of its "smartness."

I had this exact same thing happen to me today. I figured TMO was forcing me into a more expensive data plan, but as soon as I was back to 3G it was working fine again. I don't have the $5.99 plan, just the $10/mo for dumbphones.
This may end up forcing me into a legit data plan in the end. I like having access to data, even @ edge speeds.

My problem is that it works great when i am on 3g, only it happens if it goes on EDGE for even few mins, it stops, then I have to reset it and see if it goes on 3G.
Ohh boy, I wish there was some sort of a hack ...
I really don't wanna go to higher data plan at this time of the economy :
