Video of Spring Loaded Style G2 Hinge .... - G2 and Desire Z General

I was in Wal-Mart today and decided to check out the G2 on display .
I started playing with the hinge and it felt like it was definitely spring
loaded or tension loaded in some way . It felt great while playing with
it and the hinge design had a very positive "snap" opening and closing
into place . Even when shook upside down the screen absolutely would
not come down . It actually took quite a bit of effort to open and close.
So I asked the rep behind the counter to see a brand new G2 to see if
it had the same design , but to no avail it did not . The brand new G2
right out of the box felt like my G2 that I own . The display model weight
was right on to the actual phone weight . It had a real camera eye and LED
flash , trackpad was like a real G2 , etc . so the weight of the screen was
almost on par with a real device . There definitely was not enough weight
differences between the decoy and real device to make this drastic differences
between the hinges . Thoughts ?

That's not even a real phone! You're a real bright one.

If you werent a ****ing retard maybe you would read THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PHONES WERE THE SAME !!!!!

Stores never use real phones as dummy units. If the phone was live that would be a different story.

It doesnt matter if the phone was live or not . The hinge doesnt know if its
a decoy or not . The weight of the screen and phone itself was extremely
comparable . If they weigh that close to each other then why does it act that
way ? There was a major difference between the two to just write off .

From the video the G2 looks incredibly plasticy and light weight. It just looks off to me.

It was the exact replica with working parts . I was kinda thrown off to be honest . Its
the only decoy phone Ive ever seen that wasnt "fake" . All the buttons pressed down
and wasnt plasticy by any means .

I absolutely would not pass that off. Dummies are simply the advertised phone with the internals and screen removed and compensated for. I played with the dummy G2 at Radioshack, and it felt just like the one I had returned (for various reasons) just before; the hinge was fairly loose and the weight felt proper.
Here's hoping that it's a sign of the future. Maybe late production units were changed? If not, I can always dream...

Its a possibility, but the G2 in the video just looks off to me for some reason. If they did fix the hinge how could I get a new one? I'm outside of my buyers remorse period.

Its time to call Asurion, LMAO

Eh... I'd rather just deal with it then ante up another $120

if the heavy screen were removed and replaced with cheap plastic then there is no way the screen section of the phone could be as heavy as the screen part of a real G2. The screen section of the real G2 is quite heavy

The REAL phone I messed with a local TMO store worked exactly like the video.
The hinge is in fact spring loaded and those that have gimped hinges with screens that fall are defects.

Call Tmobile and tell them the issue your having with your phone. They will send you another phone.

It doesn't matter if they weigh the same, demo units don't use real buttons and do not have mother boards or screens on them, they are to display how it would look, not run or feel. Sorry but you can't back up your theory...

vibrant vs g2

is it me or is the vibrant better than the g2 by like a lot? i mean yeah the g2 has official froyo and all but i think that its pretty complicated on flashing stuff to the g2. i recently got it and on the first day i had it on a boot loop and it took me like 6 hours just to fix it and the funny thing is that after all the work fixing my semi brick i messed it up again trying to flash a gingervillian rom and i had to call tmobile for a replacement but then i fixed it so now im paying 20 bucks for expedited shipping and a replacement g2. anyways what im trying to say is that i think the vibrant is way better to do stuff with it like flashing roms and mods and all that. maybe its just me because ive had the vibrant for longer than the g2, where the g2 ive only had it for like two days already and i already managed to get traumatized by semi bricking it. and also i think the vibrant is way better because the 720p recording is better, the samoled screeen and awesome speaker and just more amazing. yeah i know i might sound like a vibrant fan boy but i honestly like my vibrant better the only reason i still have my g2 is because its keyboard but im sure im going to trade it for like a mytouch4g or something oh and may i add that the damn g2 is heavy. ugh. so thats just my opinion on that. no offence to the g2 owners, and im also not a noob to this stuff.
You probably won't find too many people who disagree with you in the Vibrant forum.
If you're gonna sell the G2, just keep the cash. You really don't need two phones. If you must have two phones, I'd wait to buy a dual core.
I sold my g2 for my Vibrant. And I have to say out of the box the g2 was better because everything worked. (mainly gps) but with the fixes and custom roms I am much happier with my vibrant as ccompared to the g2. Better display and wayyy lighter phone. And most reviews between the 2 will crown the vibrant ad the victor.

I would trade my Vibrant for a G2 in a second. I want a hardware keyboard, better screen be damned.

I wouldn't do this, but I would trade it for a myTouch 4G. Hardware keyboards bother me, and it would suck to downgrade on screen quality, but I'd love to have CyanogenMod again...

Lol I went from vibrant to g2 and g2 to mytouxh 4g if you want deal with htc qc issue then ok. I sold my myotuch 4g and came back to vibrant.
G2-loose hinge(the phone wobbles even with keyboard closed),no glass its plastic screen, loose battery cover on some of em,dead pixel
Mytouch 4g replaced it 5 times due to qc issue examples? Washed out screen (1/2 is washed out screen and other half is not. It has batter contrast and all that)
Front facing off centered. You have to tilt your phone to get your face in the centered
Loose battery cover. Battery cover just moves like hell
Dead pixel on some of em
Dust under the glass
Squeaky button.(kinda annoying)
Light leaks
Yup htc have good phones but too much qc issue.

Perfect vibrant for me!
Lol i`ve been wanting to get a G2 For a while i got the Vibrant right now but its a big mess and...it feels cheap...if you dont want it you can always work out a deal with me =D
It feels cheap? Would you want a dent or a lowed price battery replacement. And some guys are making aluminum backcovers in the general section I think.
The phone doesn't feel cheap. The mentality of "heavy = well built" has got to go. Yeah, the phone's light and mostly plastic. Most vehicles on the road now are 75% plastic as well. The difference is cars go 100+ mph and endure harsh conditions, while my phone sits in my pocket, desk or hand. I'd say plastic is sufficient for a phone.
Neither mine nor my wifes vibrant creak, squeak, feel loose, or have any other physical or mechanical flaws. We've both dropped ours multiple times on the pavement, both survived with minor scuffs each time. From what I understand though, the g2 has a loose hinge issue, and the mytouch has squeaky buttons. My wife is completely content with her stock 2.2 vibrant. She is the average consumer. I'm not. Mine is modified, and much more responsive than the stock g2 I owned for a short time, droid x I had for a day, and evo I play with everyday. Gps on the latest bionix is working as intended.
I don't think the vibrant is better than any of them (g2 in particular), but it isn't worse. It's personal opinion, they're both fast. If you prefer the features of one, or how one feels over the other, that's the one that's better for you. I prefer the vibrant.
Sent from my <tw> powered vibrant.
right on @allthrottle i agree and i like the g2 now that i have a sense rom and i got a case for it so im not scared to have it around anymore and i got it cheap too, 10 bucks at tmo store, pretty weird accounting that tmo sells cases for like a lot like a gel skin case for the vibrant is like 20 i think. but yeah i got both phones and i like to play with the g2 more and i kind of use the vibrant as a music source i mean come on 16 gb is good for some music. the only thing i wish is that the g2 would of had a bigger screen i mean yeah i know that either you have the big display and no keyboard or the small display and a keyboard. honestly i dont use the keyboard as much on the g2. swype does its good on the phone and also i hate that the g2 isnt as bright as the vibrant. oh well i wonder if anyone else is like me with a vibrant and a g2...
My wife wanted my Vibrant. So, I read everything I could find about all the new phones. I ended up getting another Vibrant. With a custom ROM I have no complaints about my Vibrant.

Greetings G2 forum

Don't know what the diploamacy for the G2 and the MT4G is, but I am an indifferent neutral, that being said.... I was hoping for some input from you lovely people. I have been replacing my MT4G trynig to get a good screen etc... and I am up for a phone swap, now that I have replaced it 3+ times... MY questions is, does anyone have experience switching from the MT4G to the G2? What is their opinion and why? (I am not looking for opinionated responses such as: GET THE G2, OR FAIL AT LIFE!)...I am just looking at performance against performance, and display.. and The hinges...Thats what I am mostly worried about, if your hinges wear out, are you able to replace them thru tmo as many times as you need to? Anyways, any responses are appreciated. Thank you.

The hinges are only a problem if you make them a problem. Sorry I'm not answering your question, but the hinge does what it's supposed to do. If it bothers you, then your holding the phone in an awkward position in a way it wasn't meant to be held.
Performance... G2 has one of the best processors around.
Display is the same as the display in the MT4G(S-LCD).
The G2 is one of the best android phones out, and with the second gen processor pretty much smokes the competition.
...and not to mention tons of developer support

Yea... I noticed that even though the processor is smaller, its second generation seems to more than make up for it. When I talk about hinges, I mean do they wear out easily..and is that covered? I know the g1 hinges were pretty shaky. The development for this phone is so solid, that is why I considered the swap in the first place.
I have never had any problems with my hinge, and mine is a preorder phone from september. Granted, if you drop the thing often, I can see them being one of the first things to go. If you are really worried I would spring for the insurance.
Internals are the same as the MT4G I think. Slightly smaller screen, but a hardware keyboard and stock android to compensate. Only feature I wish it had was a ffc, but that's more a novelty than anything.
The two are extremely comparable, cousins for the most part. That being said, the G2 was my first android phone and I love it!

HTC One Black Scuffs

Can anyone with the HTC One in black confirm that it does not scuff like the paint on the iPhone 5? I currently have an iPhone 5 and it will suck to go to another phone that is painted black.
Not seen anyone with a black HTC One yet on these forums but if they exist I am sure they will let you know.
There is a short video on YouTube that answers this. I can't post links as I am a noob here but if you search for 'HTC One Anti Scratch' you should find it.

Black is not released yet but we have been assured it is anodised. The iPhone5 was a joke arriving with chips in the paintwork out of the box! While it is VERY hard to produce things perfectly and there may be a slight flaw somewhere on the phone, some of the iPhone 5s were shocking.

FWIW - I have been using an iPhone 5 since launch day without a single scratch on it (no case or protector). I do however treat my phone considerably better than most. It has never been dropped and is always set down on something soft, never on hard surfaces.
Again, it all depends on how you treat the phone. Under the right conditions, I'm sure the HTC One will scratch as well. Hopefully not as easily as the iPhone though.

Thanks for the video. And that's okay, I don't mind a scratch here and there as my iPhone has scratches as well. But what really concerns me is CNET.co.uk's review of the HTC One Black where they mention the HTC One is actually painted, not black anodized metal, so it chips even faster than an iPhone 5. That in itself is concerning.
I really want a beautiful Android phone like this one, but unfortunately there are some things that are starting to turn me off, like the buttons that are too pushed in with the phone and the IR blaster being on the left, as well as the 2,300maH battery which would've been great for yesteryear but no so much to today's standards.
It's so hard to find a beautiful phone that performs like you want it and has top of the line specifications. I had the HTC One X and had to return it due to manufacturing defects and other problems with Sense (goddamn I hate Sense).
Sorry about that rant, just wanted to know about the black scuffs as that would be a dealbreaker for me.
Cnet.co.uk review got it wrong, it's not painted. It's anodized for sure.
Op, can you change the topic to: .... does not scuff?

While I'm not trying to start a war here, because I don't know this stuff as well as some others, I do know that the iPhone is anodized.
A large part of an anodizing process (and it's overall resistance against scuffs/scratches) comes down to the type of metal and its hardness (tempered vs. non-tempered) along with depth, dye, and the finishing process itself. Anodizing is quite a bit different than just spraying some paint on something and moving along - however, it does have the ability to chip/scuff almost just as easily (depending on the process and materials used).

Rough edges, too hot, bad camera and visible pixel grid

I've recently purchased black HTC ONE. Although at first look device looks great (design is near perfection), I am really disappointed with its quality.
Build quality: both sides of the phone have rough edges - skin gets caught leaving white residue most of the time. Upper left edge of the screen is not fitted well - raised above the speaker grill
Really hot! It gets uncomfortable hot after few minutes of browsing over wifi - the screen gets warm as well! I also have GNote 2 and Iphone 4s and they get to such temperatures only after havy use when charging.
Camera is no good! (and yes I know how to take a picture) - pictures are noise (in relatively good light) and contain pinkish tint in center when focusing on white surfaces
Pixel grid (horizontal and vertical) is quite visible on the screen when jts turned off (this does not bother me), or on a mid day light and even indoors under some angles (and this is f-ing bothering me!)
I dont know did I get a really bad unit or this device is all looks and no quality...

That overheating issue you're facing is not normal, I believe. I have had a Galaxy S3 which got really hot after minimal usage, and the HTC One is great when it comes to that in comparison. You have to understand that aluminium soaks up the heat from the internals of the device, which is a good thing and a bad thing; it is perhaps bad because it can get a bit uncomfortable to hold while playing games, for instance, but at the same time it is good because it preserves the internals of the device and prolongs their life.
I have the a silver one and I do not face the problem with the edges. I read that the black one has a coating on it which makes it more prone to scratches, dings and chips than the silver one, so maybe that is the problem you're facing? I have also read that some of the earlier versions had gaps (like the screen not being fitted well, as you mentioned) but I am not sure about them. If you feel uncomfortable about the device, just go to the HTC service center and talk to them about it, perhaps they can sort you out a replacement if you're under warranty.
I cannot comment on the camera because I am by no means a photographer or even have a lot of experience with them, but it is suffice to say that I love the camera and I feel it is much better than my S3, sister's 4S and Dad's iPhone 5.
Yes I do expect here to be exactly as you've described. Maybe this is why my relationships does not last more than a year

Its not chipped or scratched. It looks quite nice really. However you can feal its edges scratching when you hold the phone. Nothing dangerous just bloody annoying - due to hype about build quality I had my expectations set high.
I am no photography expert I just take pictures with steady hand and in fair light - if my subject is the white wall, the pink tint is all over the middle of the picture
As others said probably very bad unit. I'll try to replace it on monday.
Definitely defective. I've been using the phone for the last hour browsing the net and checking email. Still cool to the touch. Not sure what the sharp edges are...
mine got pretty hot the first week i had it and the battery life wasnt very good but after having it for a while it seemed to have settled down and battery life is very good now

Cool to the touch? Do you have massive calluses on your hands that are impenetrable to heat? I don't know if I've read of anyone else describing this phone as cool to the touch when being used.
As for the OPs phone. Return it. I've got black One and it is so damn nice. If you aren't fully enjoying it, something must be defective. The casing certainly sounds like it is. The camera: I recently took a short trip and only brought the phone as my camera. Before, I didn't like the camera so much. After spending time with it, I grew to like it quite a bit. It isn't an amazing camera, but it still gets pretty good shots. Maybe your settings need some tweaking, or you got a really bad unit and the camera is defective as well.
Anyway, take it back. Get yourself a perfect One.

Well, then fact that I'm in a room with AC probably helps too. But yeah, pretty cool to the touch. Not even warm.
Please don't feed the trolls

Yes I do expect here to be exactly as you've described. Maybe this is why my relationships does not last more than a year
I am also thinking of asking for another unit. But in my cowboy / banana country this really a hassle...

I think a lot of us forget that not everyone has the opportunity to just walk in store and get a replacement.. There's a lot of downsides to ATT and Tmobile, etc. upsides are they will most likely exchange them until your happy. At least you dont have to accept a bad one..Keep mentioning zero gap til they bring one that applies I got lucky i guess and my first one is nearly perfect.
It sounds like yours is bad enough to do whatever you gotta do to get it replaced. Good luck,
Pixel grid? Do you mean you can see the digitalizer layer? This is quite normal on capacitive touch mobiles with thin glass

[Discussion] AT&T LG G5

Just got mine yesterday, been using for about a day now, happy to answer any questions about the phone!
I'm quite the Android enthusiast so I should be able to answer anything but don't expect too much!
I am getting mine soon! I am still on the LG G2 so this is a huge upgrade for me. Did you get a second battery and a charging cradle with the phone?
I preordered mine, got it on the 31st. On April 1st I immediately submitted me and the wife's info for the second battery and cradle, it says submitted and haven't heard anything back yet

Erm yes and no :/ I preordered it so I was valid for the promotion and I registered my details on the LG website but it just says submitted. Probably need to wait longer for confirmation from LG but I'm confident I'll get it!
I'm happy for your upgrade! I was originally a HTC fanboy but they do things too slow and their flagships keep disappointing me, so when LG's revolutionary design came out I knew I had to get it. Loving every moment of using this phone it's simply terrific!

Same here ! I kept waiting for the website to be opened so I wouldn't be too late for the promotion or anything. Still waiting for news now.
Does anyone have problems with the paint on the back not looking clean, or problems with the bottom part not being flush?

Well for me, I got the Gold color. It seems pretty clean to me, smooth feel, sleek colors. As for flush, I don't really get what you meant by that haha.

I just got mine! By flush I meant that some people had complaints about the bottom part having a huge gap. Mine is as smooths as can be!

Nice congrats ! Which carrier did you get it from and what color did you get? As for the gap thing, nope, felt no gap, just plain smooth and great feel. Even if there's a gap it's understandable considering it is detachable haha. This phone is what I'd describe as perfect <3

Whatever you do, don't go to the regular LG G5 forum.... There is so much negativity and haters/s7edge fanboys. I'm all for people charing their opinions but damn!
Anyway I got mine today, got the dark aluminum color (forgot the name) from ATT. It feels really nice and the wide angle lens is amazing. I will say I do have a bit of a gap between the bottom and the phone, but its not a deal breaker. I may go to the ATT store and compare to their floor model just to see if I am perhaps being too picky.

I know haha, that's why I posted here, other than the fact I'm using an AT&T version. I think the color you got is Titan? Anyways about the camera, I haven't been using a lot of it but I must say it's really quite different and does it's job pretty well. Compared to my old HTC One (M7) it's just planets apart. It takes in light really well too and basically just awesome. Also, I think you don't have to go to AT&T store cause whem the topic was brought up, I paid close attention and found out mine had the gap too! But honestly I'm not really bothered I don't feel it that much anyways. This phone's pros outweigh its con way too much haha.

I'm going to the ATT store this weekend to check this out. I'm shocked that eBay and swappa don't have barely any for sale.

Im thinking it's the app and how it uses the drivers for the camera, i had a similar issue in whatsapp that the phone didn't focus correctly and the pic was blurry even though the preview before taking pic was fine, i don't use snapchat so i can't say i have the issue or not

I have issues with the front and rear cameras in Snapchat. I have also seen someone else with these issues in Snapchat on the lg g5 sub reddit. I don't have any issues with the camera in other apps as of yet. So I'm sure its Snapchat at fault.
I can confirm. Using native camera app pictures came out good and clear. Snapchat seems to take a **** with your camera and makes the pictures all grainy and blurry.
Well apparently my battery cradle and extra battery arrived today, they sent the shipping info today and when i go check the tracking number it's already at the post office niceee, so officially LG sent me the Accessory Bundle faster than BestBuy, now to wait for the BestBuy bundle to arrive at the store.
Does anybody experience slight increase in phone temp (as in while you're holding it you feel heat) when using snapchat or playing some games/cpu/gpu intensive apps ? I feel some heat but I just wanna make sure whether it's normal because of metallic body or defective battery.
