G2 Fast Bootup time? - G2 and Desire Z General

While I was waiting for the G2 to come out, I watched this video on youtube of the Desire Z
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu6yQQRl6q8
And was disappointed that my G2 does not have that quick rebooting option. I see that one has a modified Android, so is that something the G2 just doesn't have or is it something to enable?

That is a feature of the Sense UI installed on the Desire Z. It's called hibernate. It's not actually the bootup time, just waking from a deep sleep. Like when a laptop dies and boots up again quickly because of hibernation. The actual bootup time will most likely be the sme as the G2 or longer because of the Sense UI

I knew it wasn't a true shut down, just thought it was pretty cool. Oh well lol

WOW! This would be a nice feature to have, but remember the Desire Z is running the Sense UI, and that maybe a feature exclusive to it. I am sure if someone at TMO or HTC wanted us to have it we would. It just looks like a "sleep" mode, no different than on my laptop. Still cool though...
*SIGH* Bloody Brits get all the cool stuff...
Honestly I wouldn't mind the Sense UI on this, got real used to it after my 3G Slide...

Once we get root, other roms will offer that feature. Cyanogen 6.1 will include that feature on all his roms, eventually the G2 as well, once we get perm root.

Call me ignorant....but I can't see myself EVER using this feature. While in hibernation, your phone won't ring, your e-mail notifications won't fire, etc. The phone is off.
Today, when you turn off your display, your phone goes into a power-save mode and consumes less power to stay "on".
Who really shuts down that often to notice 10 seconds vs 60 seconds?

hows everyones slide running

just wondering now that the slide has had a couple days of usage how is it running for every? is it still fast? any fc's? any other wierd problems popping up? im just asking cause im thinking of getting one but want to know if there are any problems with it.
I personally wouldnt trade it in for any phone out on the market right now. I would take this devce unrooted over any current android device on the market. Once it gets rooted...it will be unbelievable.
Being that I require an actual keyboard, its not a hard decision, but its far exceed my expectations. There are quirks that bug me...like the pull down notification. Having the recent used applications in there was a pretty stupid idea when its x5 easer to hold Home down.
You know theres some asshole of a sr. software engineer that pushed for that to be included + sizes to be the way they are, and someone under him going "i told you so" user interface issue like that dont just go over looked, it couldnt be more blatant.
But if thats all I have to complain about, Im in pretty good shape. This phone is nearly perfect (for me)
I got the chance to play with an Incredible today. I let him mess with my Slide. His had a bigger screen and a nicer display, but my Slide was MUCH faster than his phone, even with all of the bloatware.
I just noticed the Incredible was real choppy when going from window to window and in the app drawer. I was expecting much more.
hey all
i read a lot of these forums here on xda but dont really post too often.
ive owned the G1, MT3G, Cliq, Cliq XT, HTC Hero, and have had enough experience with the Samsung Behold II to say I wouldn't let someone give me that phone... having said that.
i have had the mytouch slide for about a month now (ha, only now ((since launch)) can i speak of it)
i dont use any task killing manager app whatsoever.. literally.. ever..
this phone is butter.. the 512 ram and the QCOM 7227 really help this thing glide... it has also been confirmed by HTC that it will receive the 2.2 Update. for that.. i cannot wait.
I'm loving this phone, and I'm the type that can always find fault with phones. Its as snappy as ever.

Mine has been running great, no fc's, still super snappy and I am figuring out how to get everything to play nice together (htc mail with gmail app, my custom ringtones, etc) I am still quite happy and impressed, although I would dump this in a second if the supersonic came to tmo.
Btw, holding home still brings up your recent apps (but I'm sure you already knew that!

Mine is butter as well. No slowdowns while running multiple apps.
I do wish the HW keyboard was a little more functional; autocorrect without having to turn off swype and maybe a directional pad. Its not bad though, just have to get used to it.

I bought mine on Tuesday have widgets on every screen.speed an responsiveness is top notch and this has the fastest web browser I've used on a mobile device to date.my main complaint and the only thing that really bothers me is watching my internal memory dither to nothing as install apps and themes.I'm currently at 50mb and that's with only a few apps and some themes installed.froyo can't come soon enough,if I get apps2sd I'll be fine with this phone.however if we don't get an apps2sd solution soon I'm afraid I'll be getting rid of this.storage is definitely a deal breaker to me.
Absolutely wonderful. My G1 screen was starting to die, and not having another HW keyboard choice is what forced my hand. Thought I would be getting a mid-range stand by till Q4 of this year, but I have been pleasantly surprized. It's small/thin, yet extremely potent for what it is. And though I'll probably be one of the few, the Espresso Sense UI is nice. I would simply like custom control over the theme. /agreed @ once we get root, this thing is gonna soar.

Phone is quick as hell. Way better than my G1 in its prime (rooted and unrooted).
One thing that isn't working is hotmail. All other email works (exchange, yahoo, work) but hotmail doesn't work with stock or K9 email. Is Microsuck hating on Android?
Four words (faster than my HD2) are you sure this phone doesn't have a snap-dragon processor or is wm6.5 and sense is just that much slower than android

Definitely blame stock WM6.5. I tried the HD2, and while I know I could have vastly improved performance by installing custom roms, tweaks, etc, I just didn't feel like putting that much effort into a WinMo 6 phone when we know that later this year Windows Phone 7 is coming. There will never be a major update for the HD2, which is sad considering the hardware is magical. I loved everything about that phone except everything that ran on it. I'm very happy with my Slide, and to be honest, it's a lot easier to hold than the massive HD2.
I've had mine for 24 hours now, and I can say Advanced Task Killer is a must.
When I first opened it, I had 36mb free. I scrolled through the list, and noticed that not only was every app I had ever run present, so were some I've still never run, actually, almost every app on the phone!
I started killing them one by one, and when I killed Twitter, my free mem jumped almost 60mb! After I killed everything else, it's like a new phone. I LOVE it.
I'm a die-hard WinMo guy, I actually was in the store *just* to buy a Touch Pro 2 or HD2, and wanted only to give the MT3GS a try because I could return it and buy the WinMo phone later.... Nope... I love it....
I've had mine since launch day and haven't used any of the task killers.....usually around 50 M free (damned GPS memory hog programs) and have no problems with lag.....quite unlike my G1, thank goodness!
I came from a nexus one and can I love this phone the speed is roughly the same and I love the keyboard also coming from the n1 all I can say is that the reception on the n1 is terrible this rocks
Mines is running so smooth and the on screen keyboard is great! I don't like how they changed the usb port instead of keeping the same one as the mytouch that I had so many chargers for. Not a deal breaker though.

Loved this phone. I switch from a g1. Which feels so big aftedr having this bad boy in my pocket. Adv task killer is a must and the g1 seemed to get a little better service. But the swipe text is awesome. I never hardly even use the slide out keyboard.

well so far 2 days use and honestly both myself and my brother agree. We love this phone I would not trade it in for anything out right now at all. The speed has been constant the phone is just solid in general and I really love mine so far.
I love how the phone works so far but the 3g reception has been horrific compared to my g1

[Q] HTC Desire-Z boot speed

I dunno if you've seen it but it starts in about the time it takes my legend to turn the screen on. Anyhoo
Do we reckon it would be possible to put this kind of thing on other phones (Namely our Legend)? It's called HTC Fast boot; so would it be possible to, when they're released, port the stuff in the ROM that does this? Or not? Or anything even close?
It's very early to tell, but if they'll release to other phones (like Desire) there's a very very good chance it's possible.
For what it's worth I don't think the boot time for our Legends is bad at all. I'm satisfied with it.
Yeah, but faster is (nearly) always better
Watch second video, you can see how fast is boot speed! F*** yeah . This is what we need for legend!

My only worry is that there's some stuff going on there that's not ROM related. Maybe bootloader tinkering; who knows?
From CoolSmartPhone.com (note the last couple of sentences):
Oh, and that boot time is a whole lot quicker too according to HTC. We did give this a test after being told that the device could turn back on in "less than 10 seconds". We tested it and it actually did it in less than 5 seconds, but it seems that there's some clever "suspend" technology going on when you tell the devices to power off from the GUI as, when we popped the battery out to try a complete "cold boot" it took the normal amount of time. We're guessing that this will still be brilliant though, especially if you've had the phone powered off whilst asleep or during a flight.

Yea.. I had a feeling that it was likely to be a suspend. This does, however, make it more likely to be ported to other phones...

For what it's worth, I played on the Desire HD (and Z) last night as I went along to the HTC event. The boot speed IS very impressive, but it's a nice to have, not a "need to have".
Some people were overly impressed with the boot speed, some not impressed at all. Afterall, there is more to a phone that how fast it manages to boot up .

New Htc Sense

Just saw the videos from the htc desire Z and wow. The main thing I want is that htc fast boot. It literally took the phone 4 seconds to boot up. You think we will ever see the light of day on that for our Evos?

Yea. If they can do it for sliders it shouldn't be too hard to do it officially for our phones. Love that boot up speed...

I was more excited about landscape sense. The fastboot is defiantly cool but a feature that isn't too useful since my phone is pretty much always on.

Exactly - Although at this point I'm too attached to launcherpro to go back to sense, the fact that I couldn't use sense in landscape with the kickstand is what pushed me to launcherpro in the first place.

I don't have the audio so please correct me if I'm wrong; but to me it looked like they demonstrated the startup time for Sense, not the whole phone. i.e. Android will still take its usual time to start up, it's just the Sense portion of it (the very last part before you see the unlock screen) will be faster. If that's true, overall it will be a marginal improvement.

While some have noticed that the "fastboot" was incredibly fast another video showed the phone booting up and taking longer.
Read somewhere, was a couple hours ago, that a reboot was the speedier of the two, not necessarily powering up a cold phone. Is that the case? Maybe I misread, but I forgot where I saw it so I can't really go back and read again ... maybe I missed something. And I probably did, have been drinking.
Pretty impressive I hope this comes to the EVO.
why do you guys want landscape sense? don't see a use for it. But I do like the new status bar and the customization as well.
I would like landscape sense because, if I were to be using a sense ROM, I constantly hold the phone in landscape. So when I go from here to homescreen I have to turn the phone, which is incredibly taxing for me rolleyes and this would solve the issue.
As it stands, have used CM6 damn near the whole time it's been out, but I understand why people want it. A buddy got his new Evo and this was something I noticed. He'd go from portrait to landscape to portrait to landscape and he was like, dude, this is getting old. I had to agree with him. I know the widget solution ... yeah, sure, but it looks awkward.
Ah hope this is released for evo.. looks great.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using XDA app.
This has to be released for the Evo, its HTC sense.. so it should arrive on the incredible too.. if they only choose 1ghz devices. What I'm wondering is how and when will this be implemented.
They're launching htcsense.com next month, maybe this will include updates for in use devices.

Desire HD Fastboot

Hi i was wondering if this phone will have Fastboot like the G2 does Thanks
Apparently...
HTC said it would when they unveiled it, I think they demonstrated it on the desire z so it should be on the HD aswell.
is fast boot related to the processor power or what , and could we get it on our recent android devices
Hopefully, If the Desire Z can do it I'm sure the Desire HD should be able too, especially with the advantage of a faster processor.
..
I was just at the launch event, and the host clearly said that it's not shutting down, it's just in a hibernation state. It restarts in about 10 seconds.
V
The guy at Giant Robot(one of the htc event hosts) said it has "Solid State Memory", felt like believing it,but i thought it was too good to be true

that would actually explain it. I can't imagine both devices being able to boot this much faster with essentially the same processor speed as the other phones.
hibernation isn't very useful i think. maybe it will be useful if u turned it off on a plane or something? oh, it might be useful to those who turn off their phone everyday before going to sleep.
i believe it is in the OS along with the processor speed.
but the boot speeds are amazing i believe HCDR.Jacob will be putting it into his ROMS when he figures it out
So this thing actually boots device from 0 to operation? I think it's some sort of hibernation here. No way android with sense could boot so fast.
Yer the phone 'sleeps' when you turn it off...
So if you actually yank the battery out the phone will have to boot as normal. Seems pointless to be honest.

yeah i have to agree. But i must admit it is actually a smart implementation. Phones should be doing this.
Clearly it's in sleep or hibernate. It's not like HTC were pitching it any differently explaining how useful it might be when you're on a plane.
I think it's a nice feature and I'd be able to use it pretty well. I won't sigh when I have to turn my phone off for an interview or meeting!
Since changing the actual boot behavior will require a kernel change (which htc or google won't perform) - it is highly likely that this is all about "sleep/hibernation" technique, nothing spectacular.

I'm not so sure of this.
It might also always keep a fully booted up image, even if you remove the battery.
If it's a "Suspend to Ram" implementation, it's probably gonna need the battery indeed.

Right, but it could be something different. If the bootup image resides in a rom you don't have this problem.
Of course, this is only speculation until we know how they implemented it.

HTC Fast Boot not working any more

Hi everybody.
A few weeks ago, I finally upgraded from my rooted G1 to a stock Desire Z and I'm really happy about it. I want to wait for the announced official gingerbread by HTC and then decide wether to root or not. Performance is great so far and with no storage problem whatsoever, I don't really miss having root access for now.
I really liked the fast boot technology HTC implemented and have been using it a lot to turn off the device when having meetings and such.
Just recently, it stopped working though. Every boot takes just as long as it would have taken choosing the reboot option before.
I got an update to sense version 1.82.405.1 not long ago and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that.
Anyone experienced the same? Any tips or comments?
Thanks!
You haven't inadvertently turned off the feature, have you? Its under Settings > Applications > Fast boot.
Haha!
Actually, I was browsing the settings for anything related to my issue. Didn't find anything and never expected it to be under "applications".
My bad, and finally, I can't remember changing it. Could it be, that the standard setting of the new software version changed it to false?
Anyway, thanks four the help and not trolling at me. ;-)
Your welcome. Be sure to click the "Thanks" button on my post!
No idea if the update affected the fastboot setting.
I do not seem to have this option in my Settings/Applications menu. If I am to understand this correctly this lets you basically reboot way faster then the typical reboot command correct? I am running a G2 with Cyanogenmod 7 RC2.
I don't see this either on a stock G2. I am wondering if it is just a Desire Z thing.

Yep, it's very similar to having your notebook in sleep mode. I think they dump the whole memory on the phone's flash. So if you start up, it literally takes 3 seconds before you can enter your pin and are ready to go.
I like it because the only reason of not turning off the device before, was that you'd have to wait about a minute to get going again whilst having lost the webpages you had currently opened plus the state of winamp/maps/etc.
I never use the airplane mode in meetings any more. If I can't use the phone anyway, why not turn it off and save battery life?

Exactly. It was a feature introduced with the "new" Sense 2.2 UI on the Desire Z and the Desire HD.
I liked the feature when I was still on the stock DZ ROM, since I travel by air quite a bit, almost always with connecting flights. So I am constantly turning my phone on and off. Too bad CM doesn't have something similar.
Sure would be nice if its in Cyanogen. So many other features. I say a few of us just send a request, like start a thread over there.
Hmm works for me.
