Cached google talk friend list - Vibrant General

Hello,
I've had this problem since the first day I bought my Vibrant (3+ months). I know that Google Talk somehow caches the friend list and status of each contact every time it loads the app. That being said, I guess it is not doing a good job refreshing that. An example:
This was how the list looked last night:
Friend A - online
Friend B - online
Friend C - away
Friend D - busy
Friend E thru O - offline
When I check it this morning (after 8+ hours), the list looks exactly the same as last night. It is, as if the phone does not even bother to download fresh data from the server. I usually wait 2-3 minutes to see if it is going to refresh but then I sign out and then re-sign in. Now, everybody shows offline. I do the sign out sign in one more time and finally I see my updated list (which is something like):
Friend C - online
Friend D - online
everybody else - offline.
Any ideas why this might be happening? I've already cleaned the cached data under Settings --> Applications --> google talk but it did not help.
PS: Sorry for the long post.

Can anybody shed some light on this? Is it something really weird that no one has even an opinion or guess what's going on?
Thanks in advance.

The contacts Facebook association bug

.. is really starting to p*ss me off. I'm going to get really sick really quickly of having to re-associate all my contacts with their Facebook profiles every time the Hero decides to spontaneously delete them.
Has anyone found a workaround?
Edit: Hmmm... seems if you close all the background HTC processes like com.htc.socialnetwork.provider and com.htc.album:remote with TasKiller, it'll re-update everything when the processes start back up again.
It's still stupid!
And if you decided not to update your contact picture when you linked them, it will overwrite your specific photo anyway ! that's also very anoying if you don't want the facebook photos !
That's funny I was just logging in to report this problem. It happened to me for the first time today. It really pissed me off that for no reason all my facebook associations got deleted from contacts, rebooting the phone and killing the process didn't bring them back either. I don't even have the process com.htc.album:remote running in task killer. They need to get an improved rom out and fast, i've had this phone less than a week and i'm really starting to miss my iphone.
This happened to me today, but it was because for some reason I had been logged out of FB. Otherwise, I have not experienced this 'deletion' issue...
Strange.
Does anyone know why the phone would just log you off of facebook? Is there any good way to avoid this? I hope logging on to facebook on a computer doesn't kick you off.
I'm glad I saw this thread and that I am not the only one!
It is getting very annoying but I expect it will be fixed eventually, I just hope it doesn't take too long!
This happened to me the first time yesterday. And 2 other people in this thread had it happen yesterday. Maybe it's something at facebooks end. There could be some sort of timeout and were all getting logged out at the same time.
it is very odd.
Sat here at work, there's four of us with hero's now.
one of us gets it, the other three don't.
the two G2 devices don't, and only one of the Orange Hero's gets it.
very strange.
Okay I think that I can guess what is happening here. I have the same problem with my Facebook contacts losing their picture status and albums about every 24 hours (on stock G2). I know that when I leave my browser up overnight on my Facebook page, Facebook will log me out. I presume that it is doing the same thing with this phone and suspect that HTC did not spend long enough testing the ‘people’ application to observe this. I further guess that when the phone is logged out by Facebook it does not try to sign in again, deleting the information previously retrieved when a refresh is unsuccessful. I am not a developer and don’t have any way to back all this up but if I am correct then HTC would need to implement a workaround for this behaviour in order to fix it. Probably the easiest way to do this would be to have the application:
1. Automatically sign in again (signing out if necessary) every 12 hours or so.
2. Retain previously cached data, e.g. pictures, unless explicitly deleted even when Facebook refresh is unavailable.
This doesn’t fix the problem of the now-permanently unlinked Facebook contact (as per Don Vincenzo on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4276194#post4276194) but it would be an improvement.
I hard reset earlier which had previously fixed it, but now it only shows that I have one Facebook contact to choose from and no one else can be linked from.
It shows it as if I have only one Facebook friend.
Very strange.
Yep had the same issues.
Ultimately I found the best cure is just to wait for the two hours before it automatically updates everything.
I've only gone through my contact list once and linked all the profiles, however I have appeared to have "lost" the link many times...
So basically don't do anything, just wait.. lol they will return
Never had this issue yet but all my facebook - contact information is also sync'd with the exchange server
I was afraid that after my master reset I would have to reassociate all of my contacts but it seems that the association is stored on google contacts too, so they just all came back again
Its been 2 days now and my associations have not come back, man that's gonna suck if it resets them every couple of days. The facebook integration was one of the main selling points for me for the phone. I sync my contacts with outlook so I don't have any under my gmail name. Is it better to import all my contacts in to gmail so it retains my facebook links? If so is there a way I can sync the contacts that are already on my phone to my gmail account from my phone?
I may or may not have found a solution, or a way of preventing it. I'm using TasKiller to close all my running processes every few hours to preserve battery life etc. I noticed that when I put some of the system processes in the ignore list, (com.htc.socialnetwork.provider for example) the Facebook problem happened again. If I don't have any processes in the ignore list, and make sure to kill them once or twice a day, my contacts stay associated with Facebook.
Last time my contacts associations disappeared, I killed all running processes, took everything out the ignore list and went into the People app, and scrolled along to the facebook updates page. I hit menu, then 'update now'. This restored everything back to the way it was.
The disassociation just happened for me again - all my contacts suddenly needed reconnecting.
This is a different problem to the one I was discussing in the other thread 'It's a wee bit buggy...', where previously available contact data (profile pic, birthday, albums etc) can now not be retrieved by the Hero once a contact is linked. This functionality has not returned since it first occurred for me, and means that, irrespective of the associations holding, only about 75% of those contacts on the device that should be able to sync actually successfully sync. From what I can tell, this could possibly be an issue with Facebook privacy settings, though why it only happened a week after having the device I'm not sure.
With regard to the associations holding after a hard reset, the People app on the device stores the Facebook association data in the 'Notes' field of the contact, which is then synced to Google Contacts. If you wipe and then re-download your contacts from Google, this info comes back with it, and the People app then sees those contacts as linked. Given this, it seems even stranger that the links get broken in the first place, as it suggests that for some reason that the data in that field is not persistent...
Have the association loss occasionally but I find if you ignore it then the association comes back after a little while.
In relation to some (but not all) friends losing associations it is due to the friend changing their Facebook application settings. My girlfriend's photo disappeared a week ago, so I got her to change her fb settings and it came back. Not sure why it happened a week ago cause she changed the setting longer ago than that, but guess it is Facebook, not HTC.
Has anyone reported this to HTC? Its happening far too frequently on my gf's (pink) Hero.
So maybe it's not the same but it's definitely related:
I've now gotten to the point where I can not view my own contact details when I'm logged into facebook. That is, if I am signed in, and I try to view my contact card, I get a crash in process "android.process.acore" (this also happens when trying to update my status). If I edit my details and make sure I'm signed out of facebook, everything is fine except that all details of all linked profiles disappear...
Can anybody else confirm this?
BTW, I noticed that if you sign out using your contact card, and then sign in again (miraculously this does work!) the People app will retry to link friends to your facebook friends, so you can "force" a resync this way...
I keep getting this issue too. What i do is go to contacts, then on to the 'updates' tab, my contact card still shows my pic and me as logged in. I then press menu and update now. This resyncs all my contacts straight away. Annoying i know but at least it recognises them again after a bit.

Need Help! Newly Purchased HD2 Hangs Laggy and very slow

Hey guys,
I have been looking everywhere for a solution to my issues with my new HD2 but cannot seem to find something similar to my situation.
I bought this HD2 off ebay and it was brand new. It is the European version (Unbranded = not T-mobile) and unlocked to any carrier (although i can only use Edge for AT&T, it seems fine and am satisfied).
Issues:
after setting up everything (i.e. email, contacts, facebook, youtube etc..) it seems fine until i do a restart or reboot the device.
After the boot up, the phone will now start to slow down and started to get very laggy. Which is very annoying, because it feels like your running a windows vista in a Pentium 2 computer. I have also recognized that the my battery drains much faster (i.e. I left my house today at 100% full charged @ 8:30A.M and now it is 9:40A.M and it is already 81% and it was just sitting in sleep mode).
I am not sure if any of the guys here is experiencing the same issues or had experienced this and found a solution.
I have also, tried performing a soft reset but did not help.
I did a Hard reset twice already yesterday morning and seems to fix the problem and so, i started setting it up again (i.e. Facebook, mail, contacts, wifi etc..) and tried rebooting it a few times without any problems and I thought everything was fine now that I was thinking that it maybe just a bad setup at first, UNTIL last night when i charge the phone overnight and woke up this morning to find out that the big slowdown and lag is back.
I will appreciate any input from you guys.
by the way this is what i see when i boot up the phone.
R 2.05 51 05_2
G 15.28.50.07
D 1.48. 71294
Thanks
I had a similar experience once, go into task manager and view all process's, check the cpu usage of manila, mine was running at 90% and causing the experience you are seeing .. If this is the cause try backing out or the changes you made prior to this happening if you remember what they were .
To be honest this solution did not work for me and i ended up just flashing a new rom again .. All been well since .
EDIT : - Since you did a hard reset you have effectivly flashed a new rom, albeit the same version .. Add one app change at a time and monitor to see what causes the cpu to max out
Have you checked your free memory? Have you moved the cache files for HTC albumn, Opera, and google maps? If not search the forum to find out how.
Thanks for your comments guys.
I have actually went to my task manager and found that manila is running 90-95% the whole time and have no idea what really is going on.
I have also tried setting up my device and reboot each time. (i.e. setup facebook -> reboot ->set up yahoo mail --> reboot --> setup etc.. --> reboot.
and did not have any problems until i went to bed last night and charge the phone as usual but when i woke up this morning, i found out that the lag and slowdown is back.
i have recognize something though, that my yahoo mail (under email) has about 3,xxx emails inside the inbox and i checked the settings but it said download only messages for the past 3 days (which ofcourse i do not have over 3,000 emails in just 3 days).
I am not sure if is my email who's giving the problem, i understand that manila transfers emails to the HTC sense UI. (so maybe this is the problem?)
i just finished deleting my email account under this HD2 and will let you know if it improves.
Deleted my Yahoo account in my HD2 and did a reboot and it is now back to normal.
It is now Fast and very responsive.
I guess syncing all 3,000 plus emails to the HTC sense UI is the root of the problem.
Now, how will i have my yahoo mail here and have all the past 3 days setting available? without downloading my whole email in yahoo server.? i have checked my settings earlier and it said "download only messages for the past 3 days". But it looks like it downloaded everything in my email while im asleep.
This is so weird

My hotmail account defaults to 50 emails in the inbox on my HD2, if I get a new email it deletes the oldest, two emails = deletes oldest two which is a good system for on the go email.
I guess if you dig deep into the email settings you could possibly configure it, or search around if no other yahoo mail users give you a comment, will give you the answer!

How to stay logged-in to Google Talk?

Greetings Experts,
I can log in to Google Talk, hit Back to go back to the home screen, then go in to Google Talk again and I'm still logged-in.
However, if I check again later on (few mins, few hours), it logs in again. This means the app was not even running and I was not logged-in to Google Talk.
Question: How do I stay logged-in to Google Talk all the time?
I'm running Cyanogenmod v4.2.13 dated Jan 13, 2010.
Go to a terminal and type "netstat". If there is a line that says "5228 established", then you ARE LOGGED IN.
The application itself does NOT need to be running in order for you to be logged in.
didn't last overnight

Thanks for the info, you know your stuff. I let it sit all night, then just checked it now:
Code:
netstat | grep 5228
Got nothing. Opened the app, it logged me in again. I go back to the terminal and check again and 5228 is in the list and ESTABLISHED. I wonder if there is a timeout in effect here?
Do you have all your google services set to auto-sync? I.e. are you receiving push gmail? Because this stuff all shares the connection over 5228.
still connected!

Yes, auto-sync is on (never changed it). I just checked the netstat report and 5228 is still there, and I haven't touched the Google Talk app since yesterday morning. Seems to still be working. <shrug>?
Maybe just a network glitch...
Use another program, that has Google talk in it, like Meebo, eBuddy, Palringo, they have options to reconnect automatically, and notifications on the taskbar.
Android kills processes when it runs low on memory, even if they're a Service like this.

Is there a way to have Android make an exception so that it does not kill the GTalk process?

[Q] Facebook wall spam FROM Windows Phone 7, how to trace which app

So I have the following message that appears on my facebook wall posted from the source "mobile web".
Finally got my iPad from that site! 5 days ago I signed up at http://bit.ly/eFAMcz as a tester and today I got my iPad. All you need to do is to tell them your opinion about iPad and you can keep it forever. They only allow two people to signup under my link so do it quick before someone else does

I wasn't even using the phone when it posted those messages. Obviously I don't want my windows phone to put spam messages on my wall so i changed my password and dindn't update it in my phone.
Has anyone else had this issue or ideas on how to trace which app is acting annoying?
Installed apps: Adobe reader, Amazing facts lite, Autoscout24, Facebook, Fart machine, flashlight 7, Fun n' annoying, Hemispheres, human body facts, level, list it! do it!, Marketplace search, messenger by miyowa, mobilevikings, notesly free, quick timer, quotezen, shazam, silly soundboard, stopwatch, ted, touchxplorer, twitter, youtube.
ive got this too. i dont know whats causing it but its posted three times now. says posted via mobile web so i assume its my fone. im on htc desire. did you sort it?
No, haven't sorted it out yet, still didn't update my password on my phone...
When I have the time I'll try these things:
1) Reboot the phone, don't start any apps during the whole day and see if it occurs then.
2) If it is not, keep a log of which apps I've opened and what time the first spam message arrives at my wall again.
Also: My phone had data connection turned off because I was abroad so the app that is causing this has found a way to activate the data connection anyways.

S7edge Syncing Error

Every time I go into my Samsung account I press sync and it starts to sync and then the circular Arrow turns red when it should be light blue. It says basically that there is a syncing error and it will be back shortly. I've tried turning off power saving mode, turning on background data and pretty much everything else that I can think of. It worked once, but then went right back to doing the same thing again. The only thing that I haven't done is deleted my Samsung account and then trying to add it back again. Does anyone know of any fixes for this issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you... Keith G
Last month I had something similar happening to my samsung account. I spend a few hours (thanks samsung) until I managed to fix it. I had to login to my samsung account in the browser and add first and last name.
It seems that recently some idiot samsung programmer introduced breaking changes in the account syncing, so it can only work if the account have first and last name.
I created my samsung account more than 5 years ago and I did not specify first/last names, and it work with no issues till last month.
so many stupid mistakes recently from sammy... I just don't trust this company anymore.
the above fix worked for me anyway.
Samsung push service - this is The reason. You probably freezed it or delete. If you want working Samsung account sync, must have that app

This is definitely NOT the reason. Keith G explained that he is trying to do a manual sync...
