Hey all,
I have been waiting for news on this and it has been May since there has been any word on the Android OS being able to run on HD2s. Supposedly they have gotten over most of the major conflicts with this anticipated pairing. Check out some of the information from this article below:
Title:
HTC HD2 Android Port Makes Strides, Nears Release [Community Overcomes Problems Plauging HTC HD2 Android Port, Hopes to Have Public Release Available Soon[
Info:
With Windows Mobile dying a slow and painful death, Windows Phone 7 right around the corner and Android gaining a considerable portion of the smartphone marketshare along with buzz, the HTC HD2 remains a device lingering in limbo, begging for some attention. Regarded as one of the best Windows Mobile 6.5 powered handsets with a 4.3-inch capacitive display, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 576MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera, microSDHC slot and WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS/3G the HTC HD2 lacks no where in terms of hardware, but arguably everywhere in terms of software.
...
Apparantly, the port was plagued with problems regarding the HD2′s processor along with the Linux boot tool dubbed HaRET that would be used to actually make the Android port. Luckily, those problems have been overcome giving the HTC HD2 Android port the much needed kick to near public availability. Be sure to check back soon as we track the port’s progress.
If/when this port is made available, will all of you HD2 owners out there make the jump from Windows Mobile to Android? If not, why?

I am not sure how true this is but hopefully it does come out soon cause i do miss my Android OS. Let me know how you guys feel about the article if you want to search for it.
I also have heard that someone actually has a working Windows Mobile 7 on a HD2, its in the development stage, can someone post on that if they know more. I am hoping for a dual boot so I can use both and have the best of both worlds.

hey theres a pretty cheezy app in the omarket that looks like android its basicly like the sbpshell i guess but its kinda cool to mess around with =) and i cant wait for andriod i check up on it every day haha i hate this winmo 6.5 crap
Keep in mind we are still a long way from a fully functional port that you would actually want to replace winmo with. I wouldn't expect a fully working port that can actually use most of the hardware (bluetooth, wifi, gps, camera, etc.) and that works like an actual android phone for at least a year... and I would consider that fast development. Look at all the other ports for other winmo phones... none of them are fully functional yet... they all have missing parts and bugs. Great progress has been made in the last week for the hd2, but theres still a long way to go.
guess if you could do a dual boot with windows and android..would that make it the first hybrid OS? maybe call it WinDroid..or has that already been coined?
check out the twitter page where they posted a pic of the hd2 running ubuntu

There are several other WinMo phones that can boot into android... this isn't the first winmo device there working on this for. That's how we pretty much know what to expect with the port and how it will take a long time to get it fully functional... They'e been porting android to winmo devices for years... even before there was an android device released.... but not one port is fully functional yet like a dedicated android phone. These android ports are fun to play with and if theres specific apps you want to use its nice to be able to boot into android... but they usually aren't good enough to replace winmo as your daily phone os for a long time. So don't expect your HD2 to become as functional as an EVO or any other android phone anytime soon.

Who can tell whether the android port for HTC HD2 is also valid on my t-mobile HD2.
I know the work is in progress but want to check it first, since I have an offer to exchange for a HTC HD2 currently.

Wow if I knew this I wouldnt have gotten one. Guess I should have done more research..
i hate windows, i cannot wait for an android os for the hd2, if the android os wasnt in the works i never would have bought the hd2. i appreciate all of your hardwork on this project, youre all great, and if i could i would donate thousands to the cause. but im a poor broke white boy, lol.

Like I said earlier... the android port is not going to be as good as an android phone. Your not going to want to use it full time and replace windows with it for at least a year. You shouldn't have gotten a HD2 if you don't like winmo, because thats the only os that will run well on the phone for a long time. The android port will be nice to play with, but its going to be very buggy and not very functional for a long time. Look at the android ports for the other winmo phones... and they've been under development for years.
I don't know about that...I've used the port on both the Touch Pro and the Touch Pro 2 and both are REALLY good. Really...the ONLY thing that stops me from using the TP2 port in everyday use is the "no external speaker". It's usually not a big deal durring work hrs since it's on vibrate all day anyway...but when im home and stuff gets loud...vibrate doesn't work for me. The only other things that don't work I believe are camera, bt, and gps(which KIND of works). None of those 3 would stop me from using a phone every day. The Android port for the TP2 is blazing fast compared to other devices with the same processor(i.e. g1/mytouch) and offers you that beautiful wvga resolution(480x800). if and when the HD2 gets to that point...i'd use WM durring the day for work, and Android by night lol
Is triple booting possible?
I thuroughly enjoy the freedom that the HD2 allows us. If you know how to us WM propperly, there isn't anything that this hardware can't handle. Adding the ability to boot into Android, or WP7 for that matter,is simply an added bonus. Will I install it on my phone? Of course. There isn't much that I haven't installed on my phone. But did I buy this in hopes of a port to another OS? No. I would have bought a phone that came with said OS if I needed that.
Thank you to all the developers who have worked tirelessly to make our phones so much fun. Keep doing what you do for those of us who can't.
^i agree wholeheartedly. I bought this phone after having a G1 and before that having a Wing, MDA and SDA. I am used to WinMo and Android and though I love Android, I can't say I'm dissatisfied with WinMo at all. I love the freedom to flash roms and all the different sorts of customization options I've got. If Android is what you want, I'd say don't get the HD2 from the start.
Speaking of Win 7 I hope the developers are working on it for the HD2. Rumor was that it will not be able to run on it.

Why even bother if it is soo buggy and not fully functional? Just for fun? I don't get it if it is sooo far away from a fully functional port why is everyone so excited. Sorry but your statement makes me feel like this android port is a big waste of time. Im sure next time I get a new phone I will try out an ANDROID phone.
The reason we are excited is because it brings new life to our phones, it allows us the freedom of choice. I love Windows and I love Android and the prospect of getting WP7 makes me excited because I don't have to shell out money for a new phone when I have a phone that I love right here, to do whatever I want and make my phone what I want it to be. It isn't a waste of time, it is a huge step to the development for a Android port to an original Windows phone. Saying it's a huge waste of time is like saying cooked roms is a huge waste of time, it adds another spectrum to our devices allowing us to customize, mod, hack, and personalize as we please.
I just booted Android on my HD2 and I can not wait till it's stable and I can play around with it even more. I got to the Set Up Device screen and played with the menu ! I'll post a video soon!
Why o why?
The specs are good, so why can't we all get offically the wm7 upgrade?
I know there will be custom roms but no offence to the developpers, they are all ****ty. Every custom rom I had I need to hard reset my device every two weeks so that won't be a option for me anymore.
MICROSOFT PLEASE DON'T BE STUPID!!!!

Specs are good, but hardware requirements are not met by the HD2, now what does that mean, well it means that HTC did not look ahead, and used the wrong button configuration on the phone, so it is outside the spec of what MS says is required for WP7.
So yes we are Officially screwed out of WP7 because of the buttons on our phones .....
I doubt MS is going to change their requirements for the very few existing WinMo phones that have the CPU and RAM to handle WP7.
The hard resetting you have to do every couple weeks may have more to do with WinMo 6.5.x than the fact that it's a custom ROM. I'm sure we'll get near-stock WP7 ROMs that will function much better than what we currently have. Don't lament before we even have anything on that front.
I don't think wp7 will even be a viable option for most of us anyways (at least the initial release). Very locked down, sounds a lot like the first iphone. I'm hoping they update quickly and open it up (at least every 2-3 months), but I wouldn't hold my breath.
That is why I decided to take the plunge with the hd2. Figured it would be a couple of years before I was ready to jump on wp7. (though that 1.5ghz snapdragon htc sounds interesting and apparently is coming to t-mobile...)

So are the roms better now for the Leo?

im still trying to work out why anyone would WANT wp7 on their hd2. itd be like putting Windows 1.0 on an Alienware pc. im sure there will be custom roms if you wanna have a glorified Instinct, but just cause something is new doesnt mean its better. why would you want to cripple this powerhouse phone with that dumbed-down software? doyou actually WANT to be able to do less with it???

The reason I want to have It Is this:
I read that Windows Mobile 6.5 is based on all the old previous versions, based on CE blabla (I don't know It exactly anymore) so there Is alot of old junk that is not needed anymore.
The new Winmo 7 is totally new so therefore It should be allot faster then all the previous versions.
Please tell me If I'm wrong..

For me, tinkering is fun, but that is not the main function of my work device. I want it to work, and work well. If that means giving up a couple features, features which I can live without, then I'll play ball. WP7 has been built from the ground up with a very different goal than Windows Mobile, which had the original goal of bringing the PC to a PDA format. I don't need that, and the functionality that is associated with that goal gets in the way of usability for my purposes. If your use cases do not match up with what WP7 is capable of, so be it, but know that the vast majority of customers aren't tinkerers and tweakers.

"alot of old junk" in WM 6.5? Oh yes - like copy & paste, and proper multitasking? If you think that's junk, you'll love WP7.
iPhone OS v1 was rubbish. v4 finally has most of what you actually need and what WM has had for years. Same with Android - the first versions were severly lacking in many areas. Only now is it coming into it's own at v2.2.
Anyone should be able to see that since it's a completely new OS, WP7 will be equally as rubbish as the iPhone and Android offerings were at initial release.
yes, BUT WM still misses a lot of stuff such as gfx libs for better programs...
like ballmer says... they need to lure Developers Developers Developers somehow...
iPhone is #1 because of apps... WM is last only because of apps... and WM7 is taking sooo long because MS's management SUCKS... they seriously need to hire someone better to get thier mobile dept straightened... look at kin... what it could have been if only those devs were still part of wp7...

They put in Terry Myerson a bit more than a year ago, but thanks anyways for the un-researched comment. He's been spearheading the reset efforts in WP7. Some like him, some don't. I'll reserve and judgment until WP7 is launched and tested in the market.

Well, yes it is now, did not start out that way, but a discussion is one thing ...
But when people have convinced themselves of something , and just want to argue the point it is no longer a discussion ...
1.) HD2 Specs are great, but HTC did not adhere to What MS has released as specs for WP7, so HTC screwed us out of an Official WP7.
2.) MS specs for WP7 were released(but not to the public) before the HD2 was , so MS is not inclined or obligated to change their specs to fit the HD2
3.) We actually have 1 too many buttons on the HD2 but None of them are the almighty "Search" button, so again the HD2 is outside the spec so no official WP7.

Actually, the Euro version of the HD2 was released before the announcement of WP7. Still, I'm not sure if HTC was made aware of the requirements by the time they were already far along in the design of the HD2.

I had heard about the 3 button some time early last year, but you are right that may have been after the design and during the production phase of the HD2.
MS did not make an Official release of the specs till I think January of this year, I think that is when it was.
Either way , you can blame HTC, you can blame MS, but, it is true for any piece of technology, CPU's that keep changing sockets, Video Cards that keep changing standards, DVD/Blu-Ray standards the list goes, on ...
I mean providers are not going to change what they decide to to with regards to their specs and requirements just because people scream, I mean why can't I run Iphone OS on my HD2(not that I want to ), because it is not compatible, even though the HD2 out powers most Iphones, and just because Apple says NO.
I suggest, instead of getting all up in arms here, and bashing people for their views you contact MS and HTC and complain to them, not that it will get you anywhere, just as posting here is just gonna start a big discussion, but not fix it anyway.

Yes, sorry I meant more like management a while ago... 1 year ago is still much after iPhone released... they should have done something like WP7 from the beginning and if management wasn't an issue, I doubt we would see two different teams for mobile in the first place: Kin and WP7... I do agree however, management is seeming much better now...
EDIT: also, for hardware keys, all we're missing is the search button... since wp7 will have windows button go to the tiles screen which is also the home, we can map the home screen to search (Kind of implying home page aka bing/search)? If they wanted MS could have easily added official support, but i am sure HTC influenced them to do that... since that would mean HD3 sales for them... ahh if only i were rich :-/...

True, and I am sure some of the smart guys here will do just that for our custom WP7 ...
just an idea - if there is no "backward compability" for WM6,5 applications on WP7, then - from technical point of view - if anyone can install/move/copy the whole WM6,5 from HTC HD/HD2 to HTC HD7 or any of WP7 phones? I mean, are there any "hardwarish objections" for such operation?
The incompatibility issues alone and work required to do this would be immense
Also posted in wrong forum. All queries should be directed to General Forum which I've now moved it to
This is kinda funny, but I would love to see older OS(WM 6.1/6.5) on newer phones.
Why do we have to move to Windows Phone OS? We’re going from "pocket PC's" to "Smart Phones". That is a step backwards. I’ve got my HTC diamond 2 running perfect just want a faster phone, with HD Video cam. When I had a Samsung Omnia, I fixed all its problems by installing a moded HTC WM6.5 rom, I want a new HTC now, but hate WP7! I got into Xda's cos you can make um run how you want, WP7 is like why I hate the IPhone. I would love to get the HTC 7 Pro if I can just keep the OS I’m using on my HTC Diamond 2, its perfect now. I can’t be the only one that feels, windows phone is just windows mobile Basic.
Pleases give us our full OS back! or how's this. A choice of OS
Windows Phone X.X User
and
Windows Mobile X.X Pro
Does that make it less confusing? I really do want to know of a good 6.5 rom for the HD7 or 7 Pro are available. Thank you
P.s. what are non-phone PDA's going to run on? Is wm6.5 the last OS ever?
Windows phone 7 is a sh*t transition from windows mobile to full fledged operating system like Windows 7. WP7 sucks big time, no productivity for me.
It is all true... I'm totaly disapointed with my HT7 because of the WP7..
I need WM6.5 or at last Android on it...
Some one help us!!!
There are no devs to do this. They lack time, knowledge, drivers, blah blah.
We give them money, they won't do a sh**
Simply said, there is no community like it was few years ago. Shame.
that might be true, but nobody forced you to buy a device with an os, that you don't like, if you simply wanted to give different OSs a try, your best choice would have been a HD2, which handles wm6.5, 6.5.x, android, wp7, ubuntu, windows 95, 98 and meego. that way, if you are unsatisfied with either OS, you still have plenty of others to give a try.
I'm not a programmer, so I’m sorry if this is impossible for something I’ve not see. But couldn't someone make a rom file that you copy directly onto the inbuilt SD micro card. Of course this will mean hard resetting the phone it will install from the inbuilt Rom copy of WP7. But you just pop the card in a pc, maybe partition it 512MB program storage. And the other 14.5MB storage card (after lost formatting space.) I though the HD2 and HD7 are almost the same Xda device. Please PDA WinMobo OS's cant die! It does the most
All I want is Smartphone’s that work how I want, not how I’m told to use um.
Losing this is stepping back in time.

Enabling WM6.5 on HD7
Hi Guys,
I have been a PDA user and in particular a a windows mobile user for 7-8 years now. I am a total fan of modified ROMs and hats off to all those developers who have been developing modified ROMs on many various devices for many years now, I extend my appreciation and gratitude now. I have also been an xda-developers member for many years now, and have read many many posts and forum topics, so please disregard the post count as I didn't need to post in many cases.
I recently graduated; though I am a communications engineering graduate I did do embedded systems in my last year. Having said that, I am now in a position to start playing around with such devices and possibly do some development work.
I, like the people on this thread have mentioned, do not like WP7, the the fact that you cannot directly sync with outlook, and even worse, HD7 Pro has hardware keyboard that is completely useless and WP7 doesn't even go in to landscape mode unless typing up messages.
On the other hand, even though I appreciate Android, I do not like it either for various reasons I'd rather not delve in to. I am a fan of hardware keyboards, therefore I also had in my mind the possibility of porting WM6.5 to Desire Z though I have not even researched the feasibility of it yet.
Therefore, I announce to my fellow xda-developers.com users and readers of my intentions to begin work on porting WM6.5 to HD7. Though I do not have any experience or knowledge on the venture. The start will be a slow process and request the patience of everyone.
Having said that I would need a mentor when I run in to problems and when I need help. I would appreciate it if one of the more experienced developers here could express their willingness to help when needed I would be really grateful.
Having said that, those with experience, is there a good link you could give me where I could start reading up on what I need to learn about the device and the OS in question?
I presume I would need to know the specific system components of the HD7 and HD2, what components are identical, similar and different? I believe that the architecture is similar if not identical? Thanks.
Regards
Hi all, im new here to start join this site, because i just bought HTC HD2 started to use wm6.5, this site lot of information help me to choose the collect phone model before i buy it, before i was thinking of which OS is the best & use full for me, WM6.5? WP7? or Android? i need to choose the OS can support GMXT GPS its important for me travel lot, both of them WP7 & Android cant make it, so i choose HD2, i was bought 3 days ago in Vietnam HCMC, try to find best price in town, almost every sold out! get from website information for used HD2, almost sold out too, until 7th shop i get it, used but look new but is T mobile HD2, USD370 deal..
WP7 is a god send of an OS, I still use my WM oh my HD and ill come to that in a sec, but WP7 is actually very good, you do need to work with it for a while, but once you get used to it its amazing.
Now, WM 6.x is a beast of an OS, there is nothing out there quite like it, I believe in the next installment of MAGLDR they are looking to allow WM to be installed via magldr, this may open the way to allow SD/RAM builds of WM to run on a HD2 meaning, WP7, WM6.5 and android could all potentially be bootable at the same time
The differences between the HD2 and the HD7 are notable, its not a straight copy, unfortunately there is a big lack of intrest in WM so i would keep your eyes on android coming to the HD7, that will use something similar to MAGLDR and if thats the case you may find WM is installable as well.
DOnt hold your breath tho, we've been waiting for a new MAGLDR version for several months now and as i said, there are differences so there may well be serious driver related issues, which ironically is the stumbling block of WM! Had HTC and QC not shafted us with no driver support for the WM6.5 OS then it would actually be a modern day OS contender.
guys, that this up in the HD2 sectoin, this is for the Touch HD - the orginal

Then I could still play with what I suppose are now legacy apps or .cab's as we used to know um. phone and sms wouldn't need to be in the V-OS rom as WM wasn't originally made for it just drop um. And V-drives would just appear as the app size as far as wp7 thinks just a dream/idea. I know that wouldn't be easy. but if anyone fancied the challenge advantage is it would work on all WP7> handsets
Windows Phone 7.5 is good now. If you tried it at the beginning and was thinking it was the windows iPhone. Thank god it's not!! It is diff to WM6.x but worth getting used to

I would still like to see wm6.5 ported over along with wp8 since technically we have an sd card and we can have nfc sim cards.
There is a windows mobile emulator to wp7

and here is one that maybe can be ported: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411154

Some things you should concider to think about before flash WP 7 !
This is just some of WP7 dissapointments which I experianced and why to revert back to WM 6.5 :
1. Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.
2. Navigation looks like that children make it..Navigon is far primitive compared to Igo Primo.Lacks and mistakes are everywhere throughout it,very slow, not precise,no way to customise it...etc.etc.
3. Every kind of application has to be signed before any use or installation.
4. Zune software and bunch of unneccessery "addons" which comes in so called "Windows developer tools" to run from PC.You need to install Microsoft Expression,Zune,Microsoft games for marketplace,Microsoft Silverlight,3,4 SDKs,Visual studio Express..etc.etc.etc
5. Lack of easy access to documents,PDFs,files.Device become "Iphon-ised" and very "dummy".So,expensive device become dummy device.
6. Every kind of sync and use needs various hacks and registry modds.
7. Camera images looks like made by cheap 20$ idiot cameras.
8. No support for flash videos in browser. So,no Youtube.
9. Lack of "real" mighty programs....(I presume that it will be partialy fixed as time goes by)
10. No sharing SD cards between devices...
etc...etc...etc...
If you have to add something that I forget, please do and help to other users who are in doubt to flash WP7 or not.

yeah, I have something to add.

To be honest, first time I've ran WP7 I thought this is a beta1 version. I haven't seen so many bugs and design flaws in any other mobile OS. It's a shame.
You realize half your complaints have to do with you running WP7 on a non WP7 device?
^^what he said
but i'm still dealing with it and waiting for the next update this Feb like MS announced
I am sure you are a frustrate buyer of an android phone , because i dont understand how the f. you compare a SO with some months in the market with winmo 6.5 or android or iphone who is established in the smartfone market years ago. Did you forget the begins of this " spectacularry " IPHONE or Android phones, and so manny bugs they have ????
Be patient my friend. The igo8 , primo, or sygic. or something gps about you talk have about 3-4 years acomodated in wm, and wm exist a long time ago.
Sorry but you cant see the future my friend .

1. You will have activation issues when you try to run the OS on a non-supported phone. You ventured into it, so you have to deal with it.
2. For a 4 month old platform, WP7 is reasonably stable and bug free. Nothing, compared to the number of issues I had with my iPhone 2G.
3. Isn't that a good thing for a consumer-oriented device?
4. Zune, yes. Windows Dev Tools? NO. You have to deal with it because you want to unlock and sideload apps. That isn't a fault of WP7.
5. What is meant by "easy access"? I had been able to download a 1000+ page PDF doc and open in Adobe reader.
6. NO. Registry is not for you. If it was, MS would have built in a registry editor in WP7.
7. The pics I clicked were no different than the ones I clicked with Android. Yes, the shutter sound is irritating.
8. There is a YouTube app. No, two. One from HTC too.
9. I presume that it would be "fully" fixed as time goes by.
10. How many times would you want to use a $10 SD card in shared mode?
was going to write all that ^^ said but i dont think i could have done it any better.
You sound very bitter for someone trying to use software you dont have permission to use on a device that is unsupported, you clearly havent used the device much anyway and by the sounds of it you havent done very well with "cracking" it either because youtube is available on the marketplace or im sure if you look hard enough you will find some XAPs, is it Microsofts fault that you cant read instructions on some random website detailing step by step how to get this on your OLD HD2?
Please calm down take a brake and rename this thread because it is infact YOU that is creating confusion to people that might buy this OS.
Windows Phone 7 has had some storm of Missinformation and bad PR based on untruths and incompertance, you are feeding this with this utter nonsense

Agreed.
WP7 is VERY good for the first release of a new OS. I was seriously amazed by it. Can't wait for updates with multitasking and new features, and for when the homebrew community delves deeper in and we figure out more ways of customizing it.
Virtually all "lacks" of WP7 were officially known from the very beginning.
A disappointment is nothing else but a logical consequence if you start trying the new OS if you think it should have been "perfect" from scratch.
There are quite a few buyers of native WP7 devices with the same attitude, that´s something I completely don´t understand.
Considering the flawless port of WP7 to HD2, my first thoughts after installing WP7 were quite different: I never had any first release (of whatever OS on any smartphone I ever owned) which was even close to the smoothness and bugless functionality of WP7 on HD2. Yes, the camera app function is crappy, but then again, there is already an alternative solution from the devs.
We should be happy that thanks to devs, it was (and is) possible to run a trial on our current hardware for free - there is no other device on the market which has the power to offer the same.
I guess quite a few users will go for a native WP7 device sometime in the future, others will decide for Android, or iOS, whatever. But the good thing is, you can do it having had the chance to test over weeks or months.
And that´s the good thing about HD2: It will be my electronic companion for quite a few more months, most probably for a total of 2 years. No other smartphone was good for me for so much time ever before. My guess is that for the rest of the time, I will be doing more trials with Android and WP7, while WM 6.5 is a nice fallback solution.
Oh, and btw, Navigon Select runs nicely here. It is a basic version. The full one will only come during this summer, I was told by them.
Buy a supported device then come back and rewrite this post.

Yes,and I realise that HD2 is faster on WP7 than HD7
I think MS did a really good job with WP7.
Just think about how iOS and Android behaved first year on the market ?!?
I´m a strong beliver of Android (even a mod on forums), but WP7 really is interesting

But it doesn't run as good on the HD2... touchscreen doesn't work as well on hd2. Once the registry is known more and native devices start getting custom roms, it'll probably run faster on native phones.

that's such a weak argument, is virtually the same thing.
I have not experienced anything on my HD2 that an HD7 wouldn't do exactly the same except at times multi-touch goes weird. Any of the custom ROMs have most issues solved and have the registry edits cooked in, so all you have to do is flash and enter your activation code, just as if you hard-reset a native WP7 device.
WP7 is nice and smooth and I like it and I'm very happy to be able to use it on my phone, but till Mango drops it does have some issues that are OS-wide that prevent me from using it as a total daily without booting into Android from SD at times. That's not a knock though, I'm amazed MS put together a product like this for a first release. After the Mango update we will have more apps, more games, more custom ROMs with probably ability to totally change the UI if we want.
and @ OPs opinion that:
Activation stuff from MS ( I do not wont and do not need to "activate" to somebody my allready expensive HD2 device). As I read on net,Microsoft will have new activation policy in next WP7 phone update,so,nether WP7 modded ROM would not be safe to install.

what the hell does that even mean? you provide no evidence to this, just some nebulous claim that you "read on net." We all have activation keys and MS has no idea who has an HD7 or an HD2, so it's not like they can just stop allowing access to the Marketplace. They have been totally cool about giving us keys, but for some arbitrary reason will change that after an update? The HD2 crowd are buying apps and hyping up the OS, with seemingly no security issues at all, I haven't seen any pirated apps...
most of the OP's points are pretty worthless and flashing any of the custom ROMs eliminate any reg hacks or unlocking or anything.

Completley agree, I was going to reply to OP and rip apart everything he has ignorantly moeaned abo9ut but everything has pretty much been said already.
I must admit im a firm follower of WM6.5 and i was very reluctant to change to WM7. Ive had WM7 on my HD2 now for 2 weeks and im really starting to get into it alot more. Now that i have activated marketplace with Microsoft (which by the way was an absolute piece of piss) ive got pretty much all the apps that i used on WM6.5 apart from my Garmin XT which i miss, but im sure someone in the coming months will sort it out. You should re-flash it back to your phone, Activate it and get used to syncing with Zune. You will get into it fella. Its mint.
As above, do you think we'll be getting WP8 on the HD2 when it's released?
yes, why not??
I want so, but there is some drawbacks
Like some hardware restrictions, like low cpu clocks...
And the dammm batery drain...
I'll ditch HD2 for a WP8 device as soon as it comes out
i highly doubt it, but who knows if WP8 can run on HD2, i'm not against it.
but agreed. As soon as WP8 devices become available, i'll try to get my hands on one.
ill not be getting any WP phone unless its fully unlocked like the HD2, the improvement in hardware is minimal anyway and the HD2 does more or less anything the new bloody can do....in saying that, from what ive read the WP8 update would be back ported to current first and second gen WP7 devices, this back port would be limited as some hardware features will not be present....obviously!
the big question is will the HD2 get the update and that I can not answer with even a guess, our ROM cooking overlords will need to answer that one.
Lets look at the history.
Htc Hd2 Windows Mobile handset? yes.
Rumored to receive WP7 as update? Yes.
Test for upcoming WP7 devices? Yes.
Officially announced update for HD2? No.
Latest unofficial update of WP7 for HD2? yes.
It's a possibility of having on it but more of a yes cause I'm assuming Microsoft and their partners are using current Windows Phone handsets for Apollo (WP8). Just like how Microsoft and HTC used the HD2 as a test phone for the "new" OS (Windows Phone 7.0). Also, several Windows Phone devices have similar specs to the HTC HD2.
I waiting on IT!!

will it be much different that the current WP 7.5 thou ??
I have downloaded and installed WIN 8 on a PC and played around with it for a while . Some nice effects with tiles etc clearly moving towards touch screen interaction.
It was after playing with it that i realized WP 7.5 is actually quite a MS pioneer.
I dont think WP8 will be that much different than what we have now to be honest and lets face it , making a call , sending SMS & MMS , email wont change much ...what is there to change.
MS will be focusing on PC and tablets is my guess so i wouldn't hold your breath for a true certified WP version any time soon
Just my 2 cents worth
I think there is a chance, because the HD2 can run so many operating systems. But also the older hardware is probably not going to help either.

I agree with you.windows 8 and wp8 are very good operation. We hd2 owners are happy with seeing wp8 ported on leo.
So do you guys think that WP8 will get a section of its own under the "LEO: HD2" if it is ported to the HTC HD2? Or will it be combined with WP7?

if it runs WP8 then there would be no use for WP7 on our device and there wouldn't be enough interest to warrant having another forum

I think it should be its own forum. There would still be people who like WP7 and prefer that instead of 8 like people that prefer XP over Windows 7. Then there would be further development of WP7 that branches away from WP8 like current XP customizations and development that branches away from Windows 7.
i agree.
I think the Wp7 (.5) dev will be around for a long time to come. Certainly until the release of the WP8 Apollo
and even then there's the question can it be ported to HD2 and of course what are the requirements of WP8.
Current rumors wont even commit to it being available on current WP7 devices ( Nokia Lumia etc)
Then there's the issue of connecting with WP8 desktop ( and win 7 win XP). Nobody knows for sure what can and cant be done. It would seem MS are slowly turning into apple with regard to their policies. Before you know it we'll be tied to MS market place and MS music etc. Dont think so
I really don't think you will get any better performance . software or battery out of WP8 ( if it comes) SO why worry?
If it loks your after then WP 8 already looks like our WP 7.
If it is really breaking your heart then make a WP8 lock screen

by the same logic we should have android forums for every revision and WM 6 forums and WM 6.5 forums.
the reality is, there is plenty of sub forums
HD2 Android development
HD2 WM development
HD2 WP development
and even the questionable HD2 Linux and meego development
you dont need sub forums for every single thing, IF WP8 is ported to the HD2 i would propose the forum be renamed to WP rather than WP7 people will more than liklely move to WP8 ROMS.
The WP7 Overall development should be renamed WP and incompass all versions of WP
The same

Either a section of its own or sub section (like android 1. SD Card 2 NAND)
I say that as it is likely to take a while to get it really usable as was the case with WP7. So early adopters can converse and solve problems. But WP7 can still keep running along nicely and forum members not have to content with the issues to do with WP8. Personally I hate it when we have completely different aspects mixed in forums - gets just too hard to follow - I used to manage a couple of forums, so speaking from experience.
My strong vote is for a WP7 forum and a separate WP8 forum
