So the gps may be doomed forever, i can live without it but what about the lag? i dont want workarounds, i want a REAL fix , heck id settle for samsung speaking openly about the issue, but they wont say a word , so what do u think? the lag is here forever? is samsung working on a fix?

The only android phone i've used that didn't have lag was the Nexus One... I regret selling it now to get the SGS
My froyo feels smooth and the last time I had a bad case of lag/horrible jerkiness was at eclair. Dont know what im doing wrong except using auto killer and launcherpro instead of samsung's default
Use OCLF, Voodoo, z4mod - whatever. They all mostly fix the lag (there is still a bit of lag from low ram in some cases, but perhaps we can get that fixed too by tweaking and unmounting the initramfs after boot....)

Well... I was going to agree, but I've just had to restart my n1. Why? Started to lag! I'm starting to think the lag is an android thing in general. Don't get me wrong, out of the box the n1 is clearly better, but its still there, eventually.

Does anyone here really think samsung is going to fix rfs or the gps? Its samsung, get a life. They are happy in releasing a phone that has a working rom, and they wont do much more about it, dont expect them to release something magical the way nokia does...

You guys have no idea what you're talking about!
The fact that some apps need time to process data here and there is NOT lag.
If you want lag, go back to JM1, I did, for product code tricks, and it's terrible, I really don't know how samsung could release the device in such a state!
But bottom line, the LAG IS GONE. the GPS ISSUES ARE GONE, if you don't believe it install any earlier eclair and the differences will be mind blowing!
Thread closed.
The GPS is FIXED! RFS issues are also much better than they used to be (though ext4 would still be an improvement). NewsRob is just about usable now.

sometimes i start thinking that samsung has some kind of contract with that fruit company to produce over the top devices that have lousy performance so people start to belive android is ****....
I think the main problem in official froyo is laggy browser..tried Dolphin and xscope they are laggy too..even with flash disabled..
Lag very much still in SGS, open phonebook takes a sec or 2, on Desire its instant.
All the small delays gives SGS a laggy impression.

I have the Vibrant. My friend has the Incredible. I compared the two.
While on paper the Vibrant tops the Incredible in terms of hardware (aside from camera related areas), the Incredible seems to be a bit more snappy. Now I am not saying the Vibrant is "slow", but rather there is noticeable ~.5-1 sec delay when opening messaging, for example, where as the Incredible has none, at all. (I have applied Ryan's lagfix and hit 2.2k on Quadrant... wish Quadrant results would reflect actual performance.)
Seeing as how Vibrant has the better hardware, my guess is it must be Sense UI vs TouchWiz thing. I love TouchWiz (don't flame me) but if it is the one causing my otherwise great phone to slow down... I will nuke the thing.
What do you guys think?
I thought I saw that the incredible was starting to see froyo. Has he updated? That would make a huge difference. If you are seeing lash on the Samsung specific apps. I would say it is likely touchwiz vs. sense thing.

We need a later firmware revision. The one we have isn't very good. Later versions reduce or eliminate the type of lag you're talking about.
Besides that, I don't know what you're trying to prove here
My guess would be it's Touchwiz that causes this but there could also be other factors involved. I have a friend with an incredible and he replaced his messaging with handcent because the lag he was getting from opening the messaging app itself as well as the threads.

Have you applied the "fix" yet? I don't see any delays or lag when I open apps.
if you apply the "lag fix" i'm almost certain you won't be able to notice any slow downs in terms of opening applications.
from the limited knowledge I have of the whole "samsung vibrant lag" it's caused by the way the vibrant processes I/O read/write? it's very inefficient as compared to other phones. the fix is a work around and it literally makes it amazingly "snappy" and fast.
I'm choosing to hold off on the fix for now, people reporting issues and having to ODIN flash back to stock is turning me off.
*edit - totally missed the part that said you applied the lag fix. reading comprehension ftl

The problem is it isn't just on messaging; its pretty much everywhere (except browsing... browsing is blazing fast.)
I have a friend with an incredible its a few months old but I found the opposite to be true. Using her phone made me appreciate the speed of the vibrant, I almost felt like I was back using a G1. my phone is about as stock as you can get aside from running launcher pro instead of the regular home app.
2.2 will only make this thing faster. I use touchwiz to show off my phone. It is a lil choppy but never slow. I think our only competitor when we get 2.2 will be the x but for some reason im not worried.

You can love it all you want, but unless you heavily MOD this phone up (Root + Lagfix and more often than not a Custom ROM), the out of box experience is similar to these.
All of these lag/free/blackscreen issues still exist on JI6 for the Vibrant. I may put a video on YouTube with a demonstration soon, cause it's a myth, apparently.

This is kind of ironic...
I was just going to post how my stock JI6 vibrant is running pretty well; I opened and closed a bunch of stuff in a short period of time, but then tried to open the gallery and bam, my phone froze. No response from the keys, then I went to lock the phone, but it never turned back on.
Just did a battery pull
I've had mine freeze up and require a battery pull just swiping to another home screen.
im running stock ji6, no problems ever, with gps, gallery, lags.
Both of the youtube vids are with the i9000.
Maybe the vibrant just works great in Oregon! =)
I think if it's going to "just work" anywhere it should be either Mountain View, CA or Cupertino, CA.

When mine behaves like that I unload some apps. Even though it has 16 gigs, it seems you really can't just add apps until it's full.
I also suspect there is some kind of multitasking pre-emption problem too. For example, when you install an app, the phone virtually freezes when it's actually writing the app to disk. Maybe it's just a disk format or sd driver problem.

No. these phones have terrible I/O performance. Notice in thr video when she runs twicca it freezes while loading data (most likely from cache). It's due to the RFS filesystem Samsung uses.
The fact that those are i9k's doesn't change anything. All the stock Galaxy S phones have this issue, save for the Nexus.

This is a problem on JI6. Nothing short of a different firmware version will fix the pause when installing apps. Not a "lag fix" either.
I have no problems with my Vibrant. Trolls will Troll because that's what they do, but the 0.001% of owners here don't give a good idea of what regular owners really think. The ones that consistently complain about how horrible the phone is and continues to use it, even after claiming to have sold it or will be, should just be ignored. There is an ulterior motive here.
I have stock JL5, and it runs great. JI6 has a problem with the Gallery, well known and I posted a solution for it already. But JL5 is running so good there really isn't much reason to be running JI6 over it.

Geez, my phone sure has never behaved like that (thankfully!); and I'm "out of the box." I can see how it would drive you nuts, lead you to "lag-fixes," etc.! Just want to point out that the problem sure ain't universal, for whatever reason. (I don't have a ton of apps installed; I wonder if that makes a difference.)
Occasionally, there will be a slight pause when opening an app or something, but it doesn't ruin my day...

True, I am mainly only experiancing it on xda. I might have to use their app.

Do you have to do that on your PC...? Me either.
I am seeing a very annoying lag typing into forums like this (and others). 1-2 second lag - very frustrating!
Using the "about:debug" approach to disable OpenGL Rendering seems to address, but I am not clear what we lose in return.
I am also experiancing lag when typing in the browser. I think USAA and Netflix are the worst sites. I just got my xoom so I'm not sure how it was in the past with 3.0 but I think the browser still needs some work. The force closes in the browser are also annoying.

i find it worst on this site, but any site to fill in a form is crazy slow for me off and on, there seems to be no rhyme or reason. It makes editting difficult. Arrow keys would be nice. Lol
I do hve some lag on google talk but nothing like in the browser. So you're not alone
Helped reduce the lag
I disabled the Opengl rendering setting and then enabled the Normal rendering on the browser's Debug setting. Disabling the Opengl prevents the browser from properly playing the flash embedded objects though.
I have also been getting the lag on keyboard its very frustrating as its effectively reducing the productivity of a device that's designed to improve it. I am rather disgusted with Motorola for having the balls to release a device with such a fundamental flaw. I have dropped from 60 wpm to a rather disgustingly low 20 wpm! I have heard using a bluetooth keyboard negates this (can anyone confirm this) but I may aswell have purchased a laptop if I wanted a hard keyboard. I have also been having fun with the copy and paste feature when moving the cursor or actually needing to use it lol.
To fix lag follow these instructions:
Go to XDA
Scroll all the way to the bottom
Switch to XDA Classic instead of XDA 2010
Problem solved on XDA website.
As far as other forums I would imagine you could use an older version of their site.

this is one of my biggest issues with android ... while we get a lot of extra freedom and other stuff, iOS users dont have to deal with this crap because if something was this bad (typing from my xoom right now) I dont think apple would allow it to leave their hands. I love my xoom, I really do, but even almost a year since release, its still not as good (in terms of everything working like it should) than my mom's ipad 2.... just very frustrating to say the least

ICS is the answer. No lag. It's a beautiful thing.
Looking forward to ICS, only the fact the camera is not support stopped me from trying a ROM.

Yeah, I've tried them but they just aren't as responsive as a real WP7 handset. 1GHz processor doesn't really mean anything when the operating system hasn't been optimised - look at iOS and how snappy it feels even on older generation devices, then look at current generation android devices like the Xperia and you really notice how much it lags. Insufficient ram is one of the dead flaw of our Xperia.
Even though you are using Android 2.2+,this flaw is stilo bitting our mind.
Yes,Android's memory manage sys does work. However,it has no doubt that some laggs can be experinced when such mechanism is working,I am talking about heavy use(available memory is smaller than 80mb?).
Killing some non-restart apps does make you feel smoother no matter what roms
You can see tha why wb's rom is very smooth and FAST?

have you ever used a mac computer?
Just because ram isn't showing free does not mean it isn't there. It keeps apps background but using no actual ram or cpu so they can be quickly opened. If it needs the ram it is easily freed up for other things instantly.
Free ram sitting there doing nothing is actually a waste on a linux based system

Even system freeze( correct me if I use this word wrong) those low priority apps, however,in such case, too much apps to be freezed will make laggy.
So,try it yourself, open msn talk pro, facebook, xda app, browser, poweramp with playing flac, dsp manager and large game(Heavy use enough?)
In the game, switch back to launcher, wow, shouls be laggy(Sys just do what it supposed to do.
Sometimes the memory manage mechainsm can not been done within in a short time, killing some non-restart may make you feel less laggy.
Compare the smoothness when the free ram is 30mb and 130 mb,give it a try
cheers,
L

I did, I keep clicking on a bunch of stuff and I'm not getting lag....
Maybe it's the rom you are on? I'm on cob's miui and I literally never experience lag. Then again I haven't on any of the 2.2 or up roms I use. I generally always make full use of the multitasking too
maxidude44 said:
look at iOS and how snappy it feels even on older generation devices, then look at current generation android devices like the Xperia and you really notice how much it lags.

I threw up a little bit in my mouth when I heard this. Have you used a 3g iPhone since ios4 came out? Its the slowest smartphone I have ever experience, jailbroken or not. The xperia runs circles around that. Why would you prefer no multitasking or flash over what you have currently?

Are you really sure that you have completely no lags(not even a very very tiny) when your free mem is below 30?
If so,okay,as I have mentioned, definition of lag varys amomg people><

the launcher gives me no lag, maybe an app opening might take a millisecond more but thats negligible and doesn't bother me

Well you obviously don't know what you're doing.
wp7 is not responsive, it just uses long drawn out animations to cover up lag/delay. I think it sucks personally

Please do remember that I stated "**Please no "windows is crap" or "why would you want that?" stuff, I've seen my fair share.**"
I got rid of my task killer after I went on 2.2 read in another post its supposedly bad for the phone but I'm no dev so I wouldn't know. But I've had no problems without it.

Autokill is implempted in it.
Also, the definition of lag varies among people.
For me,unless the Xperia smooth lik iphone,I wont be satisfied.
Cheers

It's not the RAM, it's mostly the CPU + FPS Cap that causes or x10 to be/look slow. SE hasn't put much work in our 2.1 firmware. Only 1.6 was some kind of work.

I've had this phone for just over 2 weeks and it's utter garbage. Everything runs so slow, there is always a delay when opening messages and other apps. I've had 2 random reboots. I'm coming from a HTC one that is what 2 years old and that baby was sweet as a nut butter smooth. Are there any new updates coming out to make this phone run faster
So get rid of it. Everyone else seem to be pretty positive, including me.

Try the J firmware.
If you can you should return it, if you can't, root and reduce the DPI 560 seems sweet. Also use a different launcher and keyboard. That will remove most of the lag, but not all.
The phone is not rubbish, LGs software and "configuration" on the other hand is a bit over aggressive:
- thermal throttling kicks in too early in my opinion (play a game for a few minutes and frames start dropping like crazy due to the processor being capped). the phone isn't that hot either - considering my N5 reaches temperatures where it feels a lot warmer than this and seems to not cap the speed that aggressively;
- there is a lot of useless software from LG running (updates, smart stay, quiet hours, bla bla bla) which eats up memory, processor usage, etc.
- be careful if you have an sd card in it (I had an old card in it and everything was twice as sluggish);
- avoid power management / battery monitoring tools (using GSAM battery monitor in my experience seemed to keep the phone awake more then it should resulting in earlier thermal throttling).
Ways to improve performance:
- keep the software that you need active (give up unnecessary widgets, services, syncs). keep only to the ones you need;
- try the phone without a sd card;
- try to keep it as cool as possible so it runs cool and doesn't throttle performance;
- (advanced) root ... and get rid of useless junk ...
- (advanced / risky) disable throttling and other safety features ...
I've changed keyboard
I'm loving it. Phone of the year. The m8's got a crappy camera and too much bezel, the s5... Well, it's the s5. Sony, yeah Sony, great contestant. Doesn't have the style, the flare tho. No nanny Fine finesse.
Different strokes for different folks, eh.

The phone is indeed rubbish:
- crappy laggy LG software. No match to Google's Android.
- bleak washed out colors of LG IPS screen
- over sharpening
- crappy over sensitive Knock wake up
There's a solution to your issue and that's get rid of your phone. XDA developers has partnered up with http://swappa.com/ where you can sell and buy phones. No-one appreciates your counter productive thread and no-one wants to hear you complain.
Have a nice day and I hope there isn't more of dumb stuff like this.

Seriously...
I've had the M8, Nexus 5, Note 2, Galaxy S4...
I only miss the Nexus 5 a bit, for the ROMS of course. This G3 is awesome, Rooted + xposed, patiently waiting for the Devs to crack open the bootloader, or bypass.
Rubbish? Na, Great phone, could be better?, yes, not perfect, but not rubbish @ all.

Nothing dumb about it. The phones software is poor FACT
You guys should yell at a camera for 10 minutes just like what Adam Outler did. You'd really get your point across about how "horribly" bad of a phone this is.

Its not rubbish phone, its rubbish user. I experience no lag at all even with dalvik even tho my eyes are really sensitive to fps since I play PC games, so maybe you should just get an iPhone and stay a noob. Goodluck

Everything lags lol every software no matter how many cores you have will lag, it all depends on the code. So when I say " lag free" I mean no unnecessary lag
